    Thanks for the altimeter tip. I just did a 1800’ ascent and my watch logged 11,500 feet!!! Heading to Colorado in four weeks and needed this to be accurate!

    Great details! You can tell you’ve used the watch and other similar watches in real outdoor use - instead of some other reviews that just hit the top features. Thank you!

    "The other little Jordan", I like that. Good info Jordan, thanks.

    Thanks for that. It was driving me mental why my elevation was inaccurate and I was recalibrating a number of times a day. Since I’ve done the changes in the video it has been perfect 👌

    Thank you for the tip. I just got mine yesterday. This 14. Minute video saved me an hour of poking buttons.

      Cool, that's exactly what I did it for. I couldn't find a single thing on changing the position format and definitely nothing on changing the altimeter.

    Great detailed review.... maybe I'm old fashioned but I like my basic analog Luminox Sentry black out watch that tells the time...day time or in complete darkness with tritium hands and markers...it also has a date window...lol..
    I used to wear Casio G shocks starting in 1985 when I was 16 years old ,but as I got older the digital digits became impossible to read without putting on readers...
    I am amazed at the technology packed in these new smart watches....I don't know why but I just can't bring myself to buy one...
    But if I did I would get this one you reviewed so well.

    Great review. It would be nice if Garmin would update their ad-copy to indicate it only pairs with the InReach Mini and not the Explorer+. At the moment they just say "InReach device". Part of what sold me on the Instinct was the ability to pair with an InReach. Otherwise I think it's an excellent watch for the outdoors. Especially appreciate that it doesn't really look like a smartwatch. One note about the calories -- it's telling you both your resting calories and active calories for an entire day. so if you did this video sometime mid-morning, 800ish calories is probably right.

    Can you explain to me why you change it that way to fix the elevation. Like how did you know that, and how do they interfere with each other

  • @cutter-pilot8234
    @cutter-pilot8234 4 роки тому

    This altimeter/barometer thing is kinda right kinda wrong. If you are sitting still, for example sleeping at 10000 feet and its on altimeter setting the altitude will change as the weather changes. If its on barometer setting the altitude will stay correct and you can see weather trends. Then before climbing or descending it needs to be switched to 'altimeter'. But my point is that even on altimeter setting, changes in baro pressure effects the altitude just like climbing or descending, therefore must be calibrated often to be accurate.

    Hi! I've bought garmin instinct tactical 2021. I used trail running mode with altimeter and I found sth bad. It does not calculate height in right way. Comparing with fenix 5, instinc determined 1.5x more height than fenix 5. Did you have any issue like that? Could you solve it? Thanks a lot!

    Ok so just to make sure before purchasing... If I'm out in the woods or what have you and get mixed up and lose my way can I use this to find my way back to the starting point does it track the path took if not do you know of one that will.

    • @ratherbehiking8653
      @ratherbehiking8653 3 роки тому

      It has a trackback feature if you activate GPS and mark your start point.

    So what are you saying is wrong with the factory Altimeter setting, is it inaccurate? I didn't quite understand 🙃

    • @Rokslide
      @Rokslide  5 років тому +3

      BITSn PIECES The factory setting runs off the barometer. So if the barometric pressure changes, your altimeter will change with it. Even though you may not have moved, the altimeter will show a different elevation. This is an issue if you want to get an accurate elevation day to day. So by changing it to not work off the barometer, you can get a more accurate reading throughout the trip

    • @tomlitton80
      @tomlitton80 5 років тому

      @@Rokslide So by changing this, your future Altimeter readings will run off the GPS you're saying?

    • @Rokslide
      @Rokslide  4 роки тому +2

      @@tomlitton80 You can have it run off of your GPS or just by setting the altimeter yourself. Basically what your doing is making the barometer reading constant for the altimeter. You can literally be standing in the same spot one morning at 10,000 ft and the next morning the same spot will say 9,500 ft. because the barometer is changing. If your barometer reading is static then that spot will always be 10,000 ft, or stay the same. It can be problematic if your using your altimeter to get somewhere.. like "camp is at 8,000 ft so if I drop to that altitude and walk this side hill I should run into it". If it's changing with the barometer that's not going to work, you'll be off on the elevation.

    How do you manage the watch so It can last 14 days with battery I just bought the watch I’ve had it for 3 days and it only has 3 bars of 5 now and I’ve only used gps for 1 hour twice

    • @Rokslide
      @Rokslide  4 роки тому +3

      If you don't use the GPS at all you can get the 2 weeks out of it. I use mine mostly for reading the altimeter, having a watch and the occasional waypoint. So I don't use the GPS function much at all. So I guess the day-to-day when you don't have to be using the GPS function is when you get the 14 days out of it.
