Hello......Been shopping for a Garmin watch forever. I considered the Fenix series but it has way too much stuff I do not need. Thanks to you, I've decided on the Instinct, and I'm awaiting for it to arrive. I cannot thank you enough for your hard work explaining all these features in a manner that is easy to understand. I've had my Vivoactive HR for nearly 4 years, and I'm looking to replace it with the Instinct for $300 Canadian, or the Tactical for $350 (thinking that I can use the stealth mode to save battery when I'm not really doing much, and I like the coyote tan color), or go over my budget and get the Instinct Solar for $560 because of the battery life and hunt/fish feature. Just not sure the extra $294 or $237 after taxes is worth it.
I was in the same situation as you a couple months ago. I ended up selling my Garmin Instinct and going for the solar. Whether it was really worth the extra money I guess depends on the person. I used to average 23 days before having to charge my Garmin Instinct. . . . using the exact same settings I am getting about 40 days with my solar instinct. I too was excited about the hunt/fish feature, but to me it is really kind of a joke and really disappointing. All it lets you do is record the locations of your hunting/fishing trips. I was hoping it would be a lunar calendar that would tell you the best times to hunt and fish. . . but it doesn't (you have to get the Fenix or other Garmin model for that). Even my eTrex 10 that cost $60 has that feature, but not the Instinct. With all that said there is something just cool about solar watches in my opinion. The solar does give you some extra power saving options that the original did not. Solar or non solar, they are both great watches. The tactical is cool, and I am with you the Coyote tan color looks great, was just out of my budget. Hop this helps, good luck pal!
Please can you advise on the following. I have an Instinct Solar, and most things seem fine. However, whatever I do inside or out, the compass will not calibrate, trying with watch on or off the wrist. I use this feature a lot, so I would be very grateful. Basically North and South are reversed. Many thanks
Has anyone figured out what the best setting for the alert to go off? I don't know if it depends on where you live or not. But I've upped mine and still get alerts every other day with no bad weather in sight
I noticed at 0:40 that you're seconds display turned off on the screen. I've been having this happen also. Do you know if it's a feature to preserve battery life or just a bug? thanks
It is funny you mention that. I always thought it was to save battery (not a bug). However I recently updated my software (I am now on 8.70). Ever since the update the seconds no longer turn off when on that watch face. So maybe it was a bug.
@@JUMBLE2015 Hello. I'm curious about that too. Does that still happen? I have a Garmin Instinct with the 16.00 software and I saw the seconds disappear for a moment a few couple of times.
That is a common complaint with a lot of Garmin Instinct users. I can't help you there, that is just how the watch is. For the most part mine is pretty good. . . when I get an alert we usually get rain or weird weather that day. But I also get some false alerts like you mention. It's common with the Instinct :(.
You need to adjust it, standard values works only on some countries that has a particular weather. The rest you need to edit those and test, maybe for you the alert should be like 6,7 or more mb each 3 hours.
I have the tactical version. Great tip. I just enabled storm alerts.👍🏻

Why does my garmin instinct send me storm alerts when no storm is coming and it doesnt alert me when a storm is coming got all the settings on
