    Thank you, I hade my Vivoactive 2 damaged in the pool (used it for 4 years) liked the simplicity. I ended up buying the Solar Instinct after considering the Solar G Shock GBDH 1000, the forerunner 295, vivoactive 4 and the phoenix 6pro. All of your reviews were massively helpful to identify what I was really after and not overspend my budget. Thank you from Colombia, south america.

    I'm used to larger and heavier watches so when I got this one in the mail I was a bit disappointed and it felt a bit cheap because of it's lightweight and small design. But after wearing it for a couple of days I must say that the size and weight actually is a plus since I can sleep with it without it being uncomfortable like larger and heavier watches. So far after owning it for a couple of weeks I must say that I'm overall very satisfied with it.

    Just got this yesterday (having sold my 6X for various reasons) and it is a pretty good watch.
    GPS was outstanding, however I live rurally and it was a very clear morning.
    HR also seemed accurate (although the 6X was great for me too despite many experiencing difficulties).
    The ONLY problem is its so damn small compared to the 6X. I appreciate this is obvious but it will take some getting used to.
    Apart from that as an amateur runner it does everything I need including custom workouts. VO2 max would be very nice as its helpful to get that clear positive (or negative) feedback but I will survive.
    The main 'ask' was the GPS. I have a HR strap but the OHR is certainly good enough for steady state or long intervals (2 mins+)

    Love your work man! In regards to the inaccurate alti reading. The barometric port is on the base of the watch. If the watch is tight fitting or if the port becomes blocked with sweat or debris, this could explain the low readings!

    Nice review. I bought Instinct Tundra few weeks ago and i really like it as it has enough functions for me. I did notice that the heart rate monitor doesn't show correct values for me while walking uphill on steep climbs. The heart rate goes up to max. 100-120 BPM while actual heart rate is around 140-150 (it goes up to correct values when i stop so i guess it lags or cannot read exact values while moving) but other than that everything else is very precise. It's a great garmin watch and very affordable and i do love it.

    I’m very pleased with my watch and it works so much better than my previous Fenix 5. The display is more readable in especially low light conditions and the range of BT and ANT+ is way better. The only complaint as you mentioned is that it underestimate meters climbed, quite a bit actually. I don’t miss connect IQ at all.

Also Id like to have a daily active, normal watch that also has that elite garmin precision and feautres. Heard great things about these.

    Great review. I purchased this watch a week ago and wore it for 2 Interval training workouts. It was not able to grab an accurate heart rate once. After both workouts it had my heart rate ranging from 78-91.
    I know wrist based HR monitors suffer for weight training and CrossFit, but this one really lagged.
    Cool looking watch with lots of other great features. Not recommended for weight training, CrossFit, or intervals.

    For Walking and Hiking, it works well.
    Marking Waypoints is easy and the GPS life is fine, as you can set it to auto pause, so you can stop at places and it will stop tracking until you move again.
    Watch in normal mode lasts 2 weeks, which is excellent and it doesn't take long to charge and as the battery is small, you can charge it with any source that has GPS.
    For Hiking, a nightly charge is recommended, but again, it's quite quick.
    The Altimeter has been improved with an update.

      Ok fast forward 3 weeks. I went ahead and purchased this watch and ended up getting a massive contact dermatitis under the heart rate monitor. Never had any problems with any other fitnes watch. I cleaned it regularly and wore it appropriately. Any suggestions? Of course i don't ware it anymore and I reached out to Garmin. I found this to be the perfect watch for me that's why I am trying to find a solution that does not involve returning the watch. Thanks!

    I'm thinking of picking one of these up. I want to get a step up from my Polar A360, and the Garmin Instinct (tactical) would be very nice with the addition of the GPS/compass abilities. Especially the ability to set the location of my car as a waypoint for the GPS, which would give me a much easier time finding my way back to my car when I'm hiking!

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  4 роки тому

      For sure! If you start the activity from your car you could also use the Back to Start function instead of setting a waypoint.

  • @btb6011
    @btb6011 5 років тому

    I had a vivosmart HR for 2 years before it crapped out. Not sure how it did on my daily activity since I had never own anything before. But it seem fairly accurate. I mostly wore it for my health and it kind of saved my life. It was showing my heart rate dropping to 30 at night. With further testing, that was exactly what was happening and had to adjust heart medication. As for sleep tracking, it was spot on and to be honest, that felt weird it knew that much about my sleep.
    Now fast-forward to purchasing the Instinct as I wanted something durable and frankly, one that I could afford. I don't don't run, so I just walk or hike when I'm up for it and it seems to track that ok. But for sleep, it doesn't have a clue and not even close. Garmin should be embarrassed. And I hope they can work on that and get it better. I'm still learning this thing, really have not put much work into it until your video. I do realize it's geared for sports and not a medical device. But it they could put some better health related settings, they would sell more.
    Question I have is, how do you put your info on the map? Maybe a dumb question, I just have not seen how it's done yet. Thanks for you videos.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  5 років тому

      They improved their sleep tracking, but it’s still no where close to Fitbit. I’m hoping that Garmin will improves their HR sensor which would allow them to do a lot more accurate tracking overall.

    Awesome watch, it is my first smart watch of any kind and WOW, as an engineer I love this one for almost anything it can do, battery life, customisable buttons (I love buttons), retro, price and many many more reasons. BTW, the altimeter seems to be accurate within 2-5% on my watch with version 3.20. Heart rate seems to be kinda ok but I will do some nerdy tests and calculate the accuracy. Thank you for an awesome review. This watch also got me motivated to move my body more. =) And BTW, I believe that this is going to be a success for Garmin to bring in more people and hook them to their brand. Great review. I also see the altimeter recording low but it appears to get the highs and lows correct but does too much smoothing between points. So on a decent it does not show all the bumps. Try comparing the the altimeter graph from the device and then use the elevation correction in Garmin connect. This is quite consistent for most of my activities with the device. Also have an old fenix and find the difference between the figures recorded on this and the corrected figure much closer.

I did battle to get used to the button arrangement after using a forerunner 230 touch screen, but once you got it you're fine. Be aware that the device remembers which section you are in so you need to tap out of the current section before default buttons will work. Use the bottom right button to get back to 'home"

    Just got my sunburst yellow one today. A great review pleasantly presented. And as you said - this one is really comfortable to wear. Just might have to buy a chest sensor, because my favourite sport is mountain biking. Have to try if my Suunto (sensor) strap would work with it though.

    I bought this watch a few days ago, based on this review. Ended up returning it because of the altimeter problems. It wouldn't even accurately track flights of stairs, something my basic Fitbit does with precision. I wanted to love this watch so much, but had to return it on this basis. Plus, the black and white screen is a little hard for my 42 year old eyes to see sometimes.

    Hi, desfit.
    I bought an instinct two weeks ago, but like your video, the altimeter has problems. I practice enduro mountainbike, and I bought the instinct for the shock resistance and because it is the only cheap model with altimeter. you recommend me to change it for an edge 130? What other clock do you think you can use to practice mtb?
    Thanks in advance

      no altimeter on watches in the market is accurate , they are based on the barometric reading , so if thats off everything is out of whack.... maybe sometimes the weather is bad and the pressure drops and you're suddenly higher

    Thx for the solid review. I am looking for something to track my hikes so I don't have to eat up my phone battery and risk being without backup in the woods. I am curious though- for the price tag, I could get an Apple Watch for the same cost. Does Apple Watch have tracking features that would do for some simple tracking? Thx for anyone's feedback.

    My Apple Watch (first edition) is broken. So I have ordered the Garmin Instinct. For me the Apple Watch was important for the move ring. Will I miss it with the G. Instinct?
    I could still cancel or modify the order. (I have got the instinct for a very good price).
    Thanks and again and best regards

    Great review, clear and informative as it should be! I bought the instinct 4 months ago as my first smartwatch, also thanks to your first Instinct video. Which gps system (GPS, GLONASS, GALILLEO, ultratrac) do you prefer to use? I normally use the ultratrac since they say it's the most battery saving one, but takes me a long time to get the GPS signal (1-3 min). Any recommendations on that?
