I am spending a rainy day rewatching your tumbler videos using Crystalac. I had forgotten about the marbling technique. You are a very good and enjoyable tutor. Now that Crystalac has come out with some new products, I hope you will be providing tutorials on their use. 🥰
Yes I received their new products 🥰 I have a tutorial coming out sometime this weekend using the new crystalac tumbler top coat: Grand Finale. It has a 2 hour dry time 😊
No . Acrylic paint should never go directly on stainless steel. Acrylic paint doesn’t have bonding agents or rust inhibitors that will prevent your cup from rusting. Your base paint should be a good paint that has a primer.
Hi 😊 they don’t need to gas off since they are not solvent based products but they do need extra dry time. Acrylic paints dry relatively slow so you want to allow extra dry time before you continue coating with brite tone. Give it 2-3 days 😊
Hello 😊 yes that is correct. If you do not give solvent based products enough time to completely off gas then you’ll be trapping the gasses under brite tone and eventually they will work their way to the surface and cause bubbling, peeling or orange peel effect. Hope this makes sense 😊
Random but how do u put ur bt in those squeeze bottles cuz i have some bt. Uw& bg but i cant seem to fig out how and i dont wanna mess up I dont have the jug, I have them in the jar i think thts wat its called lol
I use a funnel to get it in the condiment bottles. Any type of funnel is fine. You can find them really cheap at dollar tree or Walmart. I usually use a car oil funnel lol I have a video on my Instagram showing how I add brite tone to my condiment bottles if you want to check it out. My Instagram is melissacrafter00.
Hello 😊 the craftNique Pigments are really the best option. Anything added to Universal white will turn out very light.. kind of pastel since the universal white is very powerful. You can always spray paint the cup . The pigments are a bit pricey so I mostly use the universal white to base coat cups that I’ll be adding white glitter to and use spray paint for any other color.. since I don’t have the craftNique pigments myself. Spray paint is a great base coat option .. the only downfall will be waiting the 24-48 hours off gas time . Hope this helps 😊
Great tutorial. But the original glitter pattern was so pretty but you don’t see it at the end. Seems like a lot of work not to see it. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏾 up
Yes you can. But alcohol inks have to be sealed with either a clear spray paint or Kamar varnish. I like to seal them with Kaman varnish. Then you will allow the cup to off gas for 24-48 hours from the spray paint or Kamar varnish and then you can start coating with Brite Tone.
Love your videos. Do you have e to do a glitter base and use Micah powders for the marble look or can I use like one base color of maybe a spray paint then start the marble patterns with just BT & acrylics?
Sometimes I do. On this specific cup I used just brite tone. I use the polyurethane to glitter my cup or to start building up my gloss... just because I have it & it’s a bit cheaper. But you can use just brite tone 😊
I have a question once your fully done with sealing it with everything, could you add a name after? Like can I wait a couple of days for me too add permanent vinyl on it or does it have to be done during the process?
You can do it after . It doesn’t have to be during the process. The only thing is that is you are going to want to seal your name, you’ll just add a couple more coats of brite tone to seal the name . One of the cups on this video still has no name or design lol Hope this helps (:
Can you apply the glitter with Bright Tone? If so, how does it apply? I’ve heard the Crystalac company actually doesn’t recommend Mod Podge because sometimes never dries fully as you can have peeling issues. I would like to stay away from MP if I could.
Yes you can definitely use brite tone ! I too have heard about modpodge not fully drying and having peeling issues. Although I’ve never had issues I’ve been trying to stay away from it too, just to be on the safe side . I think the whole thing with modpodge is to allow it to fully dry and to have a barrier between the modpodge & brite tone .. like E6000. Which is what I do when I still use modpodge. I’ve been really liking the glitter application with brite tone. At first it was a little difficult. What I do is match up the base color with the glitter I’m using . I then apply it using the hang method.. off the spinner. While holding it, I add a coat of brite tone.... making sure the cup if fully covered . Then apply my first coat of glitter. Don’t worry if you have patches or spots with no glitter. Let it dry for 4 hours . Then spray E6000 to add a second coat of glitter. It will be flawless after that . Then just wait 20 mins. Smoosh that wait an hour or so and spray with E6000 again and wait the 20 mins and smoosh. Once that’s dry you can start coating with brite tone. I filmed applying glitter with brite tone and the video should be up soon 😊 Hope this helps !

Can you use regular acrylic paint as your base coat instead of spray paint?
No . Acrylic paint should never go directly on stainless steel. Acrylic paint doesn’t have bonding agents or rust inhibitors that will prevent your cup from rusting. Your base paint should be a good paint that has a primer.
How wide are your stripes and size of your tumbler
Can you use a paint brush to apply the brite tone?
Yes!
For care instructions should you wait to wash the cup until it is completely cured? If so how long does it take to cure?
The cup continues to cure in the first 30 days but can be lightly used after 5-7 days.... of course following proper care instructions
Exactly how many layers does tumbler with this usually take
Hi, Melissa. Since you’re using acrylic paints and micas for the marbeling effect, do you have to off gas before adding the brite tone?

@@MelissaCrafter Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that!
I have watched a dozen or more tutorials and you are great at teaching step by step. I didn’t feel confused or lost. Great job!!
Yay ! I’m so glad I was able to help 😊
Why do you have to wait so long after the spray paint is it because bright tone is water-based and will create a bad reaction
Hello 😊 yes that is correct. If you do not give solvent based products enough time to completely off gas then you’ll be trapping the gasses under brite tone and eventually they will work their way to the surface and cause bubbling, peeling or orange peel effect. Hope this makes sense 😊
@@MelissaCrafter thank you 😁
Is it the same case with acrylic paint or modpodge
Can you use a minwax spray adhesive to adhere the glitter
Honestly Im not sure. I've never used it before.
Great video I like your cup better with just the swirl !

@@MelissaCrafter yes i will check it out tysm :)
Hi Melissa, can you use something less expensive than CraftNique to tint the Universal white? Thank you.
Hello 😊 the craftNique Pigments are really the best option. Anything added to Universal white will turn out very light.. kind of pastel since the universal white is very powerful. @@MelissaCrafter Thank you for the info. Is the spray paint a gloss or matte?
You can use either or. I usually go with semi gloss .
Great tutorial. But the original glitter pattern was so pretty but you don’t see it at the end. Seems like a lot of work not to see it. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏾 up
Yes I definitely agree. Maybe I should do one without the marble on top 🤔 thanks so much for watching 😊
I agree. The original pattern was beautiful. The marble is pretty.
I agree, it seemed such a waste of glitter after the inks were applied.
Could I add alcohol ink in cup with brite tone as well?
Yes you can. But alcohol inks have to be sealed with either a clear spray paint or Kamar varnish. I like to seal them with Kaman varnish. Then you will allow the cup to off gas for 24-48 hours from the spray paint or Kamar varnish and then you can start coating with Brite Tone.
@@MelissaCrafter thank you! I have mode podge spray will that work?
Love your videos. Do you have e to do a glitter base and use Micah powders for the marble look or can I use like one base color of maybe a spray paint then start the marble patterns with just BT & acrylics?
Yes you definitely can .
Do you have to spray paint the cup or can you do it without ?
Some kind of base is recommended. You can add a coat of brite tone and that can serve as a base .
Is it necessary to apply the micah powder?
No
How long do you wait before applying the Brite tone with paint?
After adding I left the cup dry for 4 hours before the next coat
Do you sand in between coats?
Yes . I sand every three coats
How long did the process take completely ? And how much would you sale a tumbler such as this one ?? Wonderful job !
Thanks so much. I can finish a cup in about 3-4 days. A week, if I take my time. I would sale a tumbler like this for $40 plus shipping if needed .
How long did you wait before you added your second layer of glitter?
20-30 mins
did you use bot Polyurethane and brite tone?
Sometimes I do. On this specific cup I used just brite tone. I use the polyurethane to glitter my cup or to start building up my gloss... just because I have it & it’s a bit cheaper. But you can use just brite tone 😊
Where can I buy brite tone ?
Brite Tone: thecrystalacstore.com/products/brite-tone-instrument-finish?sca_ref=375152.QTvR55nNmv
What is the heat temp on the Brite tone ? Thanks in advance
The blowing with a straw for the effect is a good idea. I've seen people do it with air cans. Yours is a much better idea.
Yes & with a straw I feel like you can control the air your blowing on to your cup. It’s super easy!
Beautifully made Melissa! Thanks for sharing! What mask do you use?
Hello and thanks so much! When sanding I use a N95 respirator face mask . Thanks for watching :)
so pretty! Thanks for the tutorial!
You’re welcome 😊

Melissa Crafter oh thank you for taking the time to give me this info! I am going to hopefully attempt to test it.
Melissa Crafter I will keep an eye out for that video. It would be super helpful for me!
Hi Melissa, this was the first video I watched earlier this am. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thanks so much 🥰
