He was a really nice guy. Got to meet him once, gave him a pack of smokes and he told the bartender to put my tab on the band. I was 15, it was a fun night. Rest in Peace

articulate, deeply soulful and mystical, without taking himself too seriously. he really had it all and you can tell why he was the spiritual leader of the band and inspires musicians and artists to this day.

I get why the guys still talk about him. He seems like a fucking genius who was only just getting started. I can hear and see the way the guys still honour him through their music. He was a huge inspiration, I’ve only just seen this video and you can tell. Proper clever dude. What a guy.

Hillel was the brains of the band more or less...sad that he never got to experience the big break that came in the early 90s, your local mainstream rock station is not usually gonna play any pre mothers milk chili peppers tunes...

well, I feel like that's a little contradictory. Hillel was awesome and does seem like he was the brain of the band during that time, but the break in the 90's was due a lot to the fact that john got to express his own creativity. Not sure they would have gotten as big if they had remained the same

I think if Slovak got off the heroin he could have made the deeper, more mature kind of music that the chilis did later, he seems smart. I mean of course Frusciante is one of a kind and Chad Smith would never have joined so it would be a lot different, but still good i think. Probably not the biggest band in the world though.

Wacthing this again made me remember my influences. I want so much to be in a band, but its so hard to be in a rock band nowadays... It's completely different from the 80's and 90's vibes. Sometimes I have only the will of giving up everything and try it in another life. But watching this now, i remember how amazing all of this was to me some years ago, when it was all i have in the afternoons of school vacation and think that it's worth at least to try...

You wanna be in a band? Easy. Move into a cheap place, get a 9-5er Monday - Friday (Thursday if you can). Spend every night working on writing songs or learning music theory/covers. Find some kindred spirits (they’re out there) and convince them to join you. Find a rehearsal space. Teach them the music. Get at least 30mins Minimum of material together. Walk into pubs and ask about gigs with no expectation of actually getting one but do it anyway.
From experience, the hardest part is your band mates both a) wanting to play the same material you do and b) working around each other’s schedule to at least practice 1-2 nights a week.

Hearing him talk about sly is super cool because you can completely hear he feels that way with his playing on it you want me to stay. That guitar part is absolutely crazy beautiful you can tell he has so much love for soul.

God, he's so fucking beautiful. I love Hillel. Really wish he lived so we'd get to see what would become of the Peppers if he didnt pass. Also, I'm pretty sure this is my first time hearing his voice, wow its deep as fuck.
Rest in peace my lovely man, you are eternally adored and I will always love your work with the Peppers forever and ever.

Hillel was the star of the peppers, the embodiment of the band and without him, they had two good albums (Mother's Milk and BSSM). After that, they became equivalent to Britany Speers.

i know what you mean but tbh sounds like you got a sorta prejudice towards their new music and you don't wanna hear it for some reason because i mean c'mon are you seriously trying to say californication, by the way and stadium arcadium weren't fucking sick? They're new albums with josh i would agree doe there's really only some good songs while the rest are poppy as hell.

as a rhcp listener, i feel very stupid, that i listened 19 yrs ago the first time to them, but noticed just today, that chad, anthony, flea and john have not been the original crew..i didnt deal with slovak before, but just right now, when i saw that video..i guess, that this guy would have had a big career with rhcp..i feel sorry, for his family, friends and the band..heroin is such a mess..but im amazed, that rhcp did come out so fuckin well..i guess, slovak, would have loved that fact..

I'm not a real HUGE! R.H.C.P ' s fan but i def do consider them great musicians & i have a ton of respect for them & i DON'T! Dis-like them at all really..... i'm just saying they're not like in my top-5 fav bands but "Hillel" & "Flea" were soooo F'N great, & wickedly awesome guitar players((..& Flea still is to this day!!...& Hillel will always forever be!!...))
"R.I.P" -A-True Guitar Pioneer That Was Taken Way Too Soon & Very Sadly Hardly/Barely Had A Chance To Show All Of His Guitar Chops & His Fullest Playing Abilities & Potential !!!..... Just As/Like His Idol & Favorite Guitarist *"Jimi Hendrix"* Also Very Sadly Did Years Before Him...((Around The Same Age Give Or Take-A-Year Or Two))... In "1970" Another True Guitar Pioneer Great & Legend & Also My Favorite Guitar Player As-Well

@Lisa Surlie well that's a terrible bleak view on things! Yes his physical corpse is qoute-on-quote: "worm food!"... but in spirit he lives on after death he was a amazing guitarist & was key staple in crafting the early sound of the Red Hot Chili Peppers & even heavily inspired their most know guitarist John Frusciante another amazing guitarist & inspired many others in this world! & is talked about & remembered to this day! Many! people looking him up! & are watching videos of him! & about him! just like YOU did! So i really can't understand why you would purposefully look up & watch a video of Hillel Slovak & then to proceed to send a stupid smartass negative reply to comment! just stating my opinions on the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Hillel Slovak being an awesome guitarist!

    • @FoolishFlock
      @FoolishFlock 3 роки тому

@Lisa Surlie So was Anthony dummy it was Hillel's death & after finally seeing his grave & headstone it scared Anthony into trying to get clean! & he did for a while but he's had slips & relapses dude & at around the time of Hillel's death he had a while clean & got into painting! & the one weekend he called his brother saying something like he was depressed & mentioned a past breakup he had & saying the coping methods weren't working anymore & felt the urge to use & he said something like it's hard it's everywhere! & his brother tried to pep talk him back up saying you're doing great you don't need any of that stuff & to focus on his paintings & music & eventually the phone-call came to a mutual end! & Hillel ending relapsing for that weekend & eventually OD'ed probably having a lower tolerance from being clean for a while but anyways what i am saying is everyone has issues but that's no right put them down or ridicule them or make fun of them for it! we're all human!

they are very good musicians, flea is very good musician, hillel had a lot to do with this, anthony is superb he knows exactly his strength and weaknesses and use everything to his benefit... he also has great presence especially when they got big... very great presence.... always brought the masculinity but with TALENT and the musician to go with it.... and ofc john what can i say more of him and the drummer chad is very good and was fitting the band like glove

I had a JAX FUZZ/WAH with the same exact fuzz 1/ fuzz 2 sounds + wah pedal. Japanese, kinda loaded pc board, all resistors standing, several silicon transistors.
I used it with the CRAIG ANDERTON 'PROJECT 21- PHASE SHIFTER, WITH 'VIBRATO SWITCH 'ON''...I called it the DE-TUNE-ATOR! Played into 50W SOUND CITY HEAD, INTO 4 CELESTIONS (2-50WATT, 1 GREEN BACK, 1 GREY BACK.
i PUT THE CELESTIONS IN A 4-12" cab that staggered the speakers so cab was narrower, but a bit taller...it was a Sears Silvertone cab that was originally with a 'nothing special' white face Silvertone Solid State guitar amp. This cab had two straight 3" plastic wheels on a single axle, recessed under the back ( the cab tapered on the lower back to accommodate wheels). I describe that cab because it was fucking great! Not as heavy as a typical Marshall 4x12 cab, but I couldn't break it or rattle it, even with my other SOUND CITY 120R w/ 6 EL34 output tubes! Lots of gigs!
Oh' btw, I built every PROJECT IN CRAIG ANDERTON'S 'PROJECTS FOR MUSICIANS except the TUNER, the Metronome, and the Mini-amp. The 'PREAMP', 'SUPER TONE CONTROL', AND THE PHASE SHIFTER. The 'TUBE SOUND FUZZ' using a CMOS chip sounded pretty convincing for jazz.
