    His writing is so compelling that you feel a bit of his pain too. Rest in peace, Hillel.

    Flea is a kind, soulful being. He and his life are interesting and amazing, and I'm so glad he wrote this memoir. ♥

    Developed a ball in my throat trying to listen to this. It’s so profound feeling every bit of his words. Hillel meant everything to Michael and RHCP. It’s Absolutely devastating. No matter how much time passes. The pain is still always there, just beneath the surface. Without Hillel there is no Flea. No RHCP
    Thank you Hillel, you’ll never be forgotten
    RIP

    My wife and I were there for this. The book release in Brooklyn. Right up front in the second row. What really struck me was how humble and genuine Flea was. It was weird at first because I felt a bit bad when people would ask him band questions or when there was this really loud screaming fan girl a few seats down from us. Which I can't fault them for..I love the band and was excited to be there and would also love to ask band questions. But it was because the vibe of the event was about the writing, books, and Flea hoping his heart and soul would be taken seriously by the art/book community and not blown off as just another rock stars memoir. And it wasn't. The book read just like Flea appeared and sounded..genuine, from the heart, and like a good friend telling you story. We also made a friend there while waiting in line outside and had an all around great time.

      That’s awesome man, I met Anthony at his book signing and could barely speak a word to him. I was so star struck. I always wish I could go back and have this mind set.

    I was fortunate to see the Chili Peppers with Hillel a few times in 80's. For awhile they were the biggest thing in L.A. I used to see Flea and Anthony all over L.A., at parties and clubs. A coworker introduced me to Anthony when he came by to pick her up for a 12 step meeting. That is all.

    I grew up with Flea, well, not 'with Flea', but as a fan I was aware of his life and career as much as the press divulged. Huge appause for Flea for getting through that rather difficult excerpt, he is essentially re-living it. I wept. You know, you get a certain idea of how deep the loss of Hillel is to the band through the numerous songs written about him in just about every other album preceding his passing. But to hear and see the emotion through Flea's own voice and words and particularly his reaction, really brings it all home. Love is the key, it's the point to "all this". Love for yourself and for others, always stay inspired and always keep your creativity flickering and glowing brightly.

    Honest to God, I absolutely love that Flea is so true to himself that he lets himself openly cry when telling a story. Not only to share his philosophies and musings with us, but to tell things the way they are in life. I wish I could cry and fully pour every ounce of emotion in me the way he does.

    Some people’s friendships are fucking profound. This reminds me of Henry Rollins speaking of his friend, Joe Cole. I know that, as heterosexual men, we first consider the loves of our lives women. It’s who we make love to. It’s who we make families with. But I think if many of us were honest to the letter about it, the loves of our lives can actually be found in other men - our deepest and dearest friends. If we’re lucky. There is something about certain friendships that can transcend everything - pain, time, sex, on down to money and careers and even our blood. Some of us are lucky enough to find that one human being out there in the world that somehow really, REALLY gets us. And when you realize it, it’s a powerful thing. Just that this person exists at all is enough.
    When they go, that pain can be so tough to deal with. You didn’t lose your lover. You didn’t lose a family member. And it’s hard for some to wrap their heads around. You lost the one person. But you keep going, praying that somehow there is a place where you can meet and have fun together again - where all the wild laughter is just waiting. “When I die, I will find you.”

    • @kahnzo
      @kahnzo Рік тому

      Thank you for writing this. I know it was 2 years ago, but it's so true. There is something about making things together, creatively, that connects us even more. My band mates and I are as close as siblings and we haven't been a band in a long time. Arguing and laughing. Getting though petty bullshit and loving each other profoundly. Give someone that you love a call today, just to say - hey, buddy, it's been a while, how are you doing?

      alexblue1989 actually, what had happened was, a girl that was sitting directly behind me, apparently had some sort of panic attack or, what seemed like a seizure at first. She fell off her chair and Flea stopped talking and she just kept saying “im ok im ok, i just need a minute” i think that ambulance showed up for her and she went outside to get checked out.

      Right! Damn that was strange timing. I also can't take flea asking about & then going through the feelings Hillel may have had when leaving!?!!!!! That's how I think & it's a terrible type of brain to have. You feel for everyone & it does hurt! Wow it just killed me to hear him rattle that off.....

      @@raoulasare2198 It does mean "praise". It's from the root הלל‎ which is pronounced 'Hallel' in English. The same root as the word Hallelujah. Hallel is a prayer said on Jewish high holy days, and it's also the name of one of the most revered sages in Judaism.

    The reality shows that loving the Flea loves the man's friends that understand when the summer ends in the summerest of summers Flea will Hillel the truth for the change: not the smack that killed Hillel. Warner Brothers wanted another drummer too.
