Thank you for uploading this. There isn't a lot of material about his life on UA-cam or the internet in general.
I saw the Peppers with Hillel many times when they were still playing small clubs. I was shocked when he died. I think he was the first musician I was personally familiar with from seeing at shows who passed away that way. It left a hole in me, the way those things do when you're a young kid and someone you look up to passes away.
RIP Hillel Slovak.

My Lovely Man is one of my favourite songs to jam to. Every time I play that song I'll be honouring him just like the Peppers did. Rest in piece.
wow, very nice slideshow dude. i read anthony's book scar tissue just this year and i sobbed when anthony visits Hillel's grave for the first time after his death. powerful stuff. I dont get into books like i did that one. and your video here sows what a true rhcp fan u are.

I remember seeing them at Cal State Northridge. They had a free concert and it was within a year of Hillels death. I just got hooked on these guys and that show really inspired me. I even broke my big toe in the slam pit. about 150 to 200 ppl attended. I mean you could stand right in front and literally bump into them accidently we were that close. FF to dec 31st 1999 at the Forum in L.A. new years eve with 311 opening for them. and we had nose bleed seats. about 20k people give or take. Quite a different show then what we saw 11 years earlier at CSUN.

I'm glad you faded Kiedis out at 4:24 because he didnt learn shit from Hillel dying, and if he ever did it was many years later.

Pretty good tribute, but the only thing incorrect is when Michael and Hillel met. We were all together at Bancroft Jr. High as well as Jack Irons and Alain Johannes (11 and What is this). I knew them all there (Jack & Alain were my actual friends, not so much the others) so they did not meet at Fairfax high, they were just re-introduced. As a side note, as much as I always respected Hillel, we never got along. He had an enormous ego, but I still respected his musicianship.

@Lisa Surlie so was Frusciante. He had to get a ton of reconstructive surgery from damage due to heroin abuse but that doesnt make either Hillel or Frusciante any less of a human being. What is your point exactly? The whole band except Chad Smith were heavily involved in drug use.
@Lisa Surlie they were ALL serious junkies before they all got clean (except Flea who only used drugs lightly and Chad who preferred alcohol). I used the word WERE as in past tense. Read the book, before Anthony got clean he skipped Hillels funeral and missed rehearsals to drugs. John sold all his guitars to buy heroin to the point that Anthony had to buy him a guitar when he had no money upon rejoining the band. You also didnt mention what your point is. Im guessing just a troll making fun of death while not making any valid statements.

Died the same way many junkies do, He cleaned up for awhile losing his tolerance,then decided to do it again and shot the same amount that he used to use. Same thing happened to Janis Joplin and Brad Nowell.

The uplift mofo party plan is absolutely amazing! Hillel’s playing is amazing and you can tell on mothers milk Frusciante sounds quite similar. A big influence on him

John Trauglaurer was the bands van driver for What is This, I worked with him at UPS, he was the airline mechanic for UPS. God Speed Hillel, 30 years ago today.
What is this ? was the opposite music of RHCP, Alain Johannes, the lead singer, was very New Wave that time he met Natasha Schneider to form Eleven, much more pop and rythm and blues.
I guess Josh is the only guitar player for rhcp that didnt have a crippling drug addiction. Cause also nivarro and JF both had bad drug addictions. Maybe Josh would have been better if had been a heroin addict at some point. (This is a joke)
Riley McGill Jack Sherman was sober as a jay bird. I don’t know about arik Marshall, but I think he was as well

Two of my personal favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers albums are Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo. I love them all but, those two are meaningful because they both have Hillel all over them. He was an incredible guitarist and his influence is still felt even with me and trying to make music. RIP Hillel Slovak

Bc people are told to just not touch any drug which makes them uninformed and ignorant about the dangers of certain "drugs". And then drs give people addicting drugs everyday to make it seem okay and then they get hooked. I could go on and on with more reasons but those are the 2 biggest imo

Who gave him the drug ? Who fled quickly the country when his best friend died ? Who never ever payed a visit to Hillel Slovak mum after her son died ? I used to love that band but now Kiedis and Flea makes me throw up .
Unfortunately, Anthony was also in his addiction. When you’re deep into your addiction, you’re not all there.
its such a shame...think about how different music would be today if artists werent killed in the middle of their career. John Bonham, of Led Zeppelin, died in 1980 when he asphyxiated on his own vomit after he took FORTY shots of vodka. If Led Zeppelin, a group considered to be the first metal band, hadnt been ended so soon, music may be drastically different today. Maybe that should be your next project anawaw.
