    Hey I just to confirm. 2 cables off the mfd. 6v (white) to purple reverse line. Signal goes to center pin of rca, black line on rca goes it earth. That’s it 2 cable from the mfd

    Thanks. Worked for my 2014 Forester into a Joying HU. The video signal is on the black wire and the connector is different. I probed the connector for the video using a needle attached to an O scope. My HU video switched automatically in reverse, I am guessing from a canbus signal. MFD was small enough the low quality camera was not noticable, now it is but it's still better.

    Hi, I would like to do this on my 15 Forester, I just installed a junsun head unit and I need the backup camera to work on the head unit as well. My forester also have a MDF but the junsun unit needs a male jack.
    Do you think I can connect the 6v. cable and the signal cable to a male jack cable and then connect it to my unit ?
    Learned a lot by watching this video btw. Thanks you.

      You're welcome. Make sure that wiring is the same as it may differ from the WRX. I can't confirm since I didn't have access to a Forester. Best bet if you are handy with a voltmeter, check the 6 volt lead first. You don't want to short anything out. Let me know how you make out.

      Do we need a step down for the camera on the kenwood unit. Or does the kenwood unit already used 6v for the reverse camera.
      I’m juts not sure if the kenwood our to the camera is 12v or 6v output from the unit. But this video I posted u don’t use any step down

    Hi, thanks for posting this. It was very helpful. Would this set up work for a 2015 WRX with navigation and Harmon Kardon speakers. My back up video is displayed on the MFD.

    • @diymodsnstuff5514
      @diymodsnstuff5514  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the delayed response. It should as the plug to the MFD has nothing to do with the Harmon Kardon system but don't quote me on that. If you unplug the connection going to the MFD, you can examine it and see if the wires are the same.

    thanks for this video. very very helpful, question though...if you dont cut the reverse signal wire to the MFD and connect it only to the AMD (as in bridging) you will be getting two reverse display at the same time..correct?

    Late to the party here, but thanks for posting this. I tried this, but had no luck. Do I need to have the MFD plugged in for this to work? In your video demonstration, the MFD harness is always plugged in to the MFD. When I tried this, the MFD was disconnected, so I'm wondering if that is why it doesn't work for me. Thanks

    If, when I shift into reverse, I want to have the camera image show only on the aftermarket head unit and not the MFD, and have the MFD continue to show only whatever display that it's set to, would I cut the video feed and 6 volt wires at the MFD plug and attach them only to the aftermarket unit?

    • @diymodsnstuff5514
      @diymodsnstuff5514  4 роки тому

      That would definitely cut the reverse signal to the MFD but I'm not sure if that would disable other features on the MFD. I left mine connected and learned to live with it.

    What are the connections, for the ends of the green wire?
    I assume one end is corrected to the shield on the RCA plug. Where does the other end connect?
    I have the red to the RCA and the white to the reverse signal wire on the head unit. I have continuity, but no camera video.

    • @diymodsnstuff5514
      @diymodsnstuff5514  6 років тому

      What year is your WRX and which head unit do you have? If your harness is the same as the one in the video, double check that the white wire is connected to the purple wire on the head unit's harness. Then try inverting/switching the RCA wires. It may be that your head unit is looking for a 6V signal so if you have a voltmeter check the voltage on the white wire. Your vehicle does not to be powered on, just key in the ignition set to accessories. Let me know how you make out.

    I had no luck on my 2015 Wrx Limited. Is there any other wires that hooked up to that you didn’t show in the video? And it’s a possibility that it’s my radio. I have the Pioneer 8100nex

    • @diymodsnstuff5514
      @diymodsnstuff5514  5 років тому +1

      The Limited radio has additional plugs that the base model does not have and the wiring may differ as you do get the backup display on the radio that the limited comes with. When you put your car in reverse, does the MFD also display the rear view camera or does it only display on the radio? You may need to identify which wire that goes to your radio/head unit is the video feed.There is a harness that you can buy for this. Also, make sure you turn on the camera setting on your Pioneer. I had to do this on the Kenwood so the video would display when the car was put in reverse.

  • @joralex
    @joralex 5 років тому

    Hi and first of all, thanks for your videos.
    I wanted to ask you a question,
    I upgraded my 2015 non nav base mfd to a 2019 mfd unit, so I don't need the camera plug to the mfd, but I do have a radio aftermarket unit installed.
    So my Q is:
    Can I do the same wiring and will it work without the camera plug connected to anything?

    • @diymodsnstuff5514
      @diymodsnstuff5514  4 роки тому

      The camera plug doesn't just work with the camera, there are other wires that display other settings. If you leave it unplugged it may throw a code on your cluster gauges. I drove with it unplugged when I was installing the head unit and had a red warning and exclamation symbol in my dash so I would not recommend doing so.
