The sla017 was the nearest to the original. The later 037 or 039 was a high beat that was very expensive. The sla043 imo was the best of the bunch. Had the everbrilliant steel , had a beautiful deep blue dial that is mesmerising, and a lovely blue seconds hand that added a modern twist. I didn't like that at first but its so much nicer in the flesh. I was hoping the next offering would come with an adjustable everbrilliant steel bracelet , but alas seiko cheaped out on the sla065. Its nowhere near as good as the sla043. The price is cheaper , but so is the watch. So the sla043 is the best overall winner for my money , by a long way !!!
This model has shown people how good the SLA043 was! It sold a couple minutes after this video went live. It was a late number final batch 16XX/1700. Can't order any more. So we got a high end 62MAS in 2017, 2020, 2023, How will the 2026 SLA look?
@@EscapementWatch the 065 is a nice watch , but i don't understand why seiko want to cheapen the sla range ? Prospex logo on it too ? The sla range represents seiko at its finest , before we get into grand seiko, so I don't understand why seiko made an in-between watch. A bit better than a spb 143 but not to the standard of a sla043 ? Seems silly to me.
Probably think it will sell better and testing the waters. Maybe it will become permanent collection one day like the uemura sla051 and mm300s

Agreed, a skx001/013 size diver w/ an 8L movement and I would likely sell my bb85 to own the seiko!
I keep trying other brands, micro's, Swiss, French, etc.. but Seiko keeps me hooked. I do like Omega a lot but the price points make collecting them a little out of my reach.
The seiko designs are so interesting.
Seiko should get more credit for addressing the mod world. So many of their releases over the last few years, are scratching the microbrand itch and the mod itch.
This one is a bit of a disappointment. No signed crown? Wtf?
Oh I love it, but not as much as the SLA043. The framed date, domed crystal, and signed crown help make it stellar! Plus the extra polished bevel on the case bring it closer to SPB territory.
Just looks like another Seiko to me. There's just too many versions of these being made. Without a signed crown, I don't even think this can be considered high end. Even my used Aquaracer that I got for 1.5k has a signed crown.

So, it is like a upgraded 63mas with a 8L movement. I don't mind the upgrade if I don't already own the the 63mas.
Thanks for bringing it up, I'm also extremely bothered that Seiko can't get a logo on the crown in this price range.
The dial is too kitschy for me.
All in all, this version is unfortunately a step backwards compared to the previous model.
Seiko is unfortunately not evolving.
it might be because other stuff came from SPB line which does not have signed crown (same mat. of steel, same Ti carbon coated bezel).
The SPB143 is enough. I got lucky with one that keeps excellent time and is fully aligned.
I didn’t, -30 a day, slightly unaligned bezel n hands, pfff. My prettiest and most expensive watch by far but it takes the edge off for sure, when my £100 steel dive can get these basic things right, and is about +15. At least these things are addressable by a good watchmaker.
It's pretty sad. The watch on this vid should be the one at the SPB's price point while the SPB should be somewhere in the $500+ range. I have a Hamilton Khaki ($450) that runs at +/- 2 sec a day. My SPB? A laughable +30. I was so disappointed that I just stopped wearing it.
I know Seiko has a large fanbase as they really do make great looking timepieces, but I feel like Seiko's taking advantage of said fanbase by releasing these pretty watches with cheap, crappy and unregulated movements. I wish people would just wake up.
how come people always make a fuss when they dont sign the crown? its a value add but barely. and sometimes its better without it, like in the case of dive watches, it fits the utilitarian motif better
I don't mind when it is not signed on the 63mas but the higher end Seiko's. I like to have the word Seiko on there. Personal preference.
Stunning, would love a solar one......I love mechanical, seiko don't regulate thier movements as well as they could which sucks.....
I recently sold my MM300 because it was +15 sec a day and it bugged the hell out of me. My other watches that cost 1/4 of the price kept better time.

@@EscapementWatch ahh okay, too bad, I really hoped that somehow it was possible to alter the watch and I'm sure there is but a watch with such a price tag should remain original even if it makes the watch less desirable probably except for the strap/bracelet that is. How silly it may seem but I am in the process of flipping the switch on either this watch or a SJE087 and the crown might turn out to be decisive in the end lol. I really do not understand why Seiko has unsigned crowns at all, even a Seiko 5 can have a 5 on the crown...
they seem to now only sign the official re-makes and presage models. I have a new SLA043 available one shown in this video and an sje083 used.

No they are not. Seiko is against applied for their divers. They said it is for reliability. They put applied markers on 100 dollars seiko 5's. So its not a cost thing for them in this case. SLA055 has the grooves as well.
3 grand for an unregulated movement with an unsigned crown and no bracelet. I don’t understand how they think this sort of thing is acceptable at that price point.

It's crazy how that's the first thing I saw here. SPB053 with a better movement, hands, slightly better case 🤷.
I mean I like it, but I'm not buying it at that price.
I think these new SLA models look great on their rubber straps. However I hate when Seiko doesn't make the bracelet optional. It's always cheaper to buy a rubber strap if you want both options.
Good news is the 63 mas bracelet does fit on this watch

How does this movement compare to a swiss movement at the price point ?
The movement has longevity built into every component. Completely in house and hand assembled. Hand polished escape teeth. If they changed hair spring to silicon it would probably pass Metas testing with ease once regulated. It has an extremely efficient smooth power delivery from barrel to escapement. Only issue with these is seiko does not regulate them.
Not a fan of this, especially the price makes it amo go. My 37, 43 smokes this.

How abot the alignments?
PERFECT hands/chaptering/and bezel on this one.
To be honest the Rado HyperChrome Captain Cook 42mm with a lovely steel bracelet,two additional straps , ceramic bezel ,a thickness of 12.1 mm and 80 hour power reserve for less money is the better buy.

NO ceramic at this price point? Also I appreciate the higher movement..but I think Seiko need to update the power reserve...need to up to at least 72hr standard. They did that on the lower movement, so I can't see why they can't.
The move really didn't help the lower movement. It made it more susceptible to improper isochronism and ruined its accuracy.
Still no signed crown grrrrrr!
With 3 high end 62mas from Sieko now available and the latest release has its niggles I’m convinced that my Seestern V3 62mas was the best choice for me. I’ve enjoyed many divers from seiko but now seeing so many cool options for everyday watches like the V3 I’m happy to see what’s next from Seestern. Any reviews coming up?

An unregulated movement for 3k? What a deal. I have bought my fair share of Seikos, but their value proposition is becoming worse and worse. I know that the movement perform often better than the stated specs, but if they don’t you have no legal recourse.

Actually they are rated at -10 + 15 seconds a day. But they usually perform around COSC or better like this one shown in this video +2s a day on the wrist performance. If you ever see one at plus 25 just know that the movement is damaged and has taken a huge impact and needs to be sent in for service.
It's boring and I'd never spend money on such a generic looking watch seiko or anything which looks like this. It will get wet from tears. Lol

Should be able to pickup one with about 30% discount, I would never pay full price for any Seiko.
Seiko won’t budge on using a signed crown, lower the bezel (on case... instead they leave a 1mm “gap”), they won’t trash the Prospex logo, I learned a ton on the 8L35 (lot’s of hidden info in web)....
i don’t really see this as an sla. it’s like an better finished spb. i have an spb143 and sje093 which are my favorite hence why i have them. the sls043 is probably my favorite sla though.
I'll take my Glycine Combat Sub. Seiko, although I like them...alot, is slightly losing sight with the average Joe.

Strap looks cheap
$2900 on a rubber strap and no signed crown? Well at least the bezel lines up and you don't have to worry about a pressed clasp or hollow end links! I'll pass and go to the Christopher Ward store with their light catcher cases.
I initially bought a C65 couple yrs ago cause I couldn't afford an Oris Divers 65, and I fell in love with it. I have quite a few Seiko's and love them, but IMO that CW C65 is more comfortable, more accurate, better made, and lower price than a lot of my other watches 🤷
The plastic strap looks plastic. It looks cheap. I would buy this only if it had a real bracelet on it.
The spb143 or any 63MAS bracelet seems to fit perfectly.

Seiko is trying to drive prices up towards Rolex prices. They are nice watches but not Rolex nice. What they are doing is stabbing their traditional customers in the back.
