The SLA043... I have owned it since November of last year and I still don't know how to properly describe this watch. Timeless would be, perhaps, the only one. The quality of manufacture and finishing is unbelievable, it is, at the same time, vintage and modern. Vintage because of its look and modern because it passed through the hands of Grand Seiko... And that changes absolutely EVERYTHING. It is necessary to have had it on your wrist to realize that it is an exceptional watch and you, Peter, knew very well how to speak about it with accuracy. Congratulations!
It's hard to take any variation of the "I wouldn't pay that much for a Seiko" comment seriously. Remove the snobbery and status-symbol mentality and you're left with a completely hand-built watch with real history powered by a completely hand-built, in-house movement, and a case/dial that's finished (again, by hand) to such a level that it requires a macro-lens to fully appreciate, all done by a watchmaker that's been at the forefront of horology since the 1800s. Anyone who thinks $4500 (US) retail seems overpriced compared to the Swiss brands seems less concerned about the quality of the watch and more concerned with what other people think of the the logo that's on the dial.
I have the BB58 in black with bracelet. I went to the nearest AD and it was the last one available. The salesman offered me some coffee in longines cups and we talked about watches for 2 hours. The best experience I had in a shop in a long time. This experience contributes how I enjoy wearing this amazing watch.
JDM always had my attention from cars to watches, when you know how well made they are you immediately know they worth the value even from the cheap Casio to the Seiko and Grand Seiko
@@marcd7332 very true. I’ve had three out of three fail horribly. Won’t buy another one. For Japanese brands, Casio is my go to. My F-91w… flawless. My mudmaster, an engineering marvel. My edifice, tough solar with all the features I need. Seconds hand hits the markers perfectly every time, all the time. It makes any other quartz analogue watch look like a bubblegum prize or a kinder surprise toy. Bang for buck, Casio can’t be beat.
Nice to hear your personal perspective on two great watches. There are several reasons that I would normally expect to prefer the Tudor, but there is just something about that Seiko, it just looks fantastic 👍
Great upload Pete. It made me realise that the emotive connection we have to our watches doesn't get enough play on YT (though I guess Adrian at B & J does it well...). It's odd how the price and/or prestige of a watch often looses its importance once it's settled into our collection. My Champagne Alpinist (which I wear on an after market jangly jubilee) is *by far* my favourite watch. It's pretty humble but has its own inexplicable magic - though my Lorier Hyperion (which I've only owned for a few months) is hot on its heels! Another flawed and humble but utterly beguiling watch... And then - perhaps like your Tudor? - there are watches like my Certina DS PH200M that are special for other, more personal reasons. I *adore* the watch. I also thought long and hard and I took my time with the purchase. What drew me to it was my late uncle, an ex UDT Diver and career officer in the Australian Navy. He had an issued Certina DS-3. When my Certina finally arrived in the mail from the US I felt more... satisfied. And almost proud. Not that usual 'let me at it' excitement! And the watch is still special to me in a way that differs from the pieces I reach for more frequently, even after a good few years. The 'why I bought it and how I feel about it now' watch stories are a great part of our hobby I reckon. Cheers mate.
I suspect you own a bunch of shitters and are looking for reassurance if your watch collection. Wtf is Certina, just junk filler crap. Not going to happen here! Cheers
HiPeter got my Seiko sla043 Have it over a year My day to day watch Accuracy superb tough wearing Wear it more frequently than my Batman Many thanks again for your excellent review it made me buy it A diamond
I’ve had both these exact watches for over a year. I love both a lot but I like the Seiko just a bit more. So much so that I recently acquired a SLA017.
I have the SLA017, It is a thing of beauty. I'm tempted by the SLA037 HI-Beat anniversary model and would be curious to see the ever-brite steel and the darker coating on the SLA017 side by side. It's a shame Seiko saw fit to omit an applied logo on the dial, it would be more true to the original and for the prices these watches command is hard to argue against.
You’re so right about Seiko - I have a SKX007J1 which can no way be compared to what you have here - it’s full of flaws and weaknesses but it truly has a soul and I adore it - my Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot is superior in every way (except water resistance) and while I respect and admire that watch it is sterile - inanimate - the Seiko is special
Been putting the seiko SLA somewhere in my future collection in my mind since i watched your review. The “out of GS factory” without the GS branding fits my stealth luxury grail watch. Retailed about $3000 in my country, hope i can get one soon. Awesome comparison!
I'm using the Strapcode Jubilee Bracelet for SLA037. I've used Black Bay 58 before, but I think 62MAS has a lot of fun elements. I enjoyed the video. Thank you!
Great review! I've owned both. Sold the Tudor. The Tudor is a nice watch, the Seiko is a special watch. The Seiko has a better movement, better case, better lume, better bezel (smooooth!), better crystal, a date. The Tudor is a good-looking watch, the Seiko is a beautiful watch. Totally with you that the Seiko has soul. The Tudor has a bracelet.
Excellent video. I appreciate how you have gone about assigning a value rating for each one - based on how each watch appeals to you. I have the Tudor BB 58 Blue. What I particularly love about it is the specific choices that Tudor has made in determining all of the variables that define what the watch is. Materials. Size / scaling / positioning. Colors (dial and bezel combination is a home run.) Case shape and finishes. Bracelet design, materials, construction. Movement. Etc... To a studied eye - the Tudor is a work of art. When you factor in the quality of the movement and then the price - amazing offering. I do like the Seiko - especially based on this review - but it to me is a completely different type of watch.
Why are they "a completely different type of watch"? They're both vintage-inspired divers under 40mm form two very respectable brands that in the real world cost and perform about the same. I think it's actually hard to find two watches form different brands that are more comparable than these. Both are great, but if one of these should earn the praise "work of art" for me it surely would be the Seiko.
Pete, it really just makes me happy, that your were able to connect, with not 1, but 2 different watches, in a meaningful enough way, that at this point in your collecting journey, you don't see yourself getting rid, of either of them. That's a great feeling, that only another watch enthusiast, truly understands. I love blue dials. I have more blue dialed watches in my collection, than any other color, by far. To the point, that I've had to make an active attempt, to acquire, dials of different color, simply for variety sake. I'm just drawn to them, as blue has always been, my favorite color. My first watch, when i was a little boy, was blue, and my first "real watch purchase," had a blue dial. I got married w/ a blue dialed watch on my wrist, and a blue dialed watch, is what first drew me into becoming a "serious collector." Until watching this video, (by sheer chance, just because I love your work) I had never even considered, how many important connections I've had, w/ blue dialed watches. Life's a mystery, but at this point, IDT, that there's any other way that I could go out, (knowing what I know now) than w/ a blue dialed watch, on my wrist. Thanks a lot. I really enjoyed this one. Cheers....
I've been waiting for you to do this comparison haha. I currently own the SLA043 and 925 BB58. I had the BB58 black when I purchased the SLA. I always enjoyed the BB58, but the Seiko made me feel something completely different and the Tudor was gone. A few weeks ago I went to my authorized dealer and they had the 925. I swore I wasn't going to buy another BB58, but I immediately fell for this watch. The dial color struck me and of course I was intrigued by a silver case. I feel like these two can coexist in my collection now much better than the standard BB58
I almost pulled the trigger on the 925 myself before I grabbed the Blue. I too love the colour of the 925's dial, really something isn't it? Maybe I have to re-visit that idea 😊
Great video Peter. I have to say that I also find the Seiko so much more attractive than the low key Tudor. Proportions, dial and color scheme combined with that exceptional crystal and overall finish just makes it absolutely stunning. A true winner that one. I just purchased the Yema Superman Skin Diver model and while it's of course not up to the standard of the Seiko, it overdelivers in giving that feeling of something really unique that's hard to stop looking at. I doesn't seem very popular but to me it's fantastic which is all that matters. It really seems to have a soul.
Great review. I totally get what you are saying. I own a Tuna 300m and it has the same effect on me every time I put it on, which is making my next watch purchase really difficult. I have narrowed it down to an SLA051, BB58 or Omega Seamaster 300M. The ‘respectful’ feeling I get when I try on the Tudor and Omega in my AD is there for sure. The wow factor the SLA051 gives me however, is on another level, but I am still holding back on pulling the trigger on either of these three - you have now clarified why. Thank you. I thought I was going crazy! 😉
Great video. I could relate to having a watch you love but does not evoke the same emotions of something else in a collection. Very well done, thank you.
Love your videos...I love the shots your taking, your voice and the subtle music in the background... But in this one the way you compared the two watches is great. Even though both watches are not my personal cup of tea, you made the comparison interesting... BTW I love a blue watch in general but blue is a tricky colour and you have to get the right shade of it. I know you're also so particular about colors as well.
I was thinking about your marks and those are fair enough to me and looking to have my first SLA! I already have my BB58 black dial and adore the little fella! Thanks Peter for sharing your passion and knowledge 🙏🏻 Efaristo! Gracias!
I've owned a bb58 and currently own the sla and I think you're spot on with your comparison. Something about the Sla feels like a more dynamic piece. Weirdly enough the Seiko feels more like a stunner and the Tudor is more toolish. You'd think it would be the opposite
Great comparison video! Interesting a lot of people noticed the Seiko. Aesthetically I love the look of the Seiko’s 62 MAS design. However in the watch community I’ve noticed a preference for more understated, tool-like looking divers like the Tudor. Personally I find them dull but maybe they grow on you over time. PS Maybe a “dial finishing”category would have been good as well as a “case finishing” one?
I can relate to what you are saying about the Tudor. I own it for over a year now but really never fallen in love with it. It had its short honeymoon period but that's it. I will never flip it as I got it at an AD and will likely gift it to my son at some point.
*The first BB58 I saw in the flesh was a black & gold model, and it is rose gold. To my preferences, it was UGLY FUGLY and damaged my thinking about the BB58 overall, beyond repair. The colour combination gave me the impression of a cheap, mall kiosk disposable hunk of junk.*
Thanks for fantastic and honesty comparing this two beautiful watch. I’m a Tudor guy, I’m already got beautiful Tudors in my collection (fxd21, 925, LHD, bb41 heritage and bb41 classic) but I’m also have some Seiko and also looking a long time to SLA. Now, after your thoughts I wanted, really wanted try on top Seiko quality and legendary SLA and I’m sure should feel the same us you bro 🤜🤛
The BB58 is an incredible watch and easily my personal favorite at the moment. The details and subtleties are for me. The way the blue changes in lighting conditions how the hands catch the sun, etc. Proportions are perfect for my wrist and the heritage of the watch make me feel warm inside. That’s just me. I’m not one for these these other brands that come across too blingy when they’re tool watches. Appreciate the review.
As you mentioned, a watch connecting with you. Have some decent watches in my collection, including a BB58, covering many price points but the watch that's getting the most wrist time lately is the Orient Ray2. Blue sunburst dial is just magic. Great value, a lot of bang for your buck!
Love the Seiko. For whatever reasons, Swiss watches have never grabbed my attention. Could also be the sales person selling me the watch, if I spot a fashion victim or nose in the air, I walk the other way. I always feel comfortable when I walk into a Seiko store, even in the heart of Ginza. Funny, being a creative director and starting out as a typographer, what got me interested in watches in the first place was the Kanji date only found on Japanese watches. Having studied design in Switzerland many years ago, Swiss architecture and culture is amazing.
Same as you. However due to my ‘inverse snobbery’ I’m wondering whether I’m overlooking some Swiss watches. However , I feel you’re paying over the odds for many Swiss brands (Oris included). However some Tudor watches do offer good bang per buck but I just don’t like the look of them.
No Swiss watches with Kanji date? ... ah!, unforgivable. Man, Swiss watches are great, just the price/quality relation of the Japanese caught you, understandable, but Swiss are the greatest.
2:17 This has been my exact experience with the BB58. It's dull, flat, simple, plain, and just overall boring design does absolutely nothing for me. It's like I feel dead inside when I put it on LOL. But then I'll put on my Breitling SuperOcean 42 Blue or my Tudor Chrono BB Panda and I'm an ecstatic kid in a candy store again. I've tried really hard to force myself to like the BB58. Simply because it's such killer value for what you're getting. On paper, it's practically a perfect watch. It has the absolute perfect dimensions imho, it has an inhouse movement, great balanced weight, very respectable brand and heritage, very safe and versatile design that will pair with any outfit, great lume, great accuracy, etc. And yet, every time that I've put it on my wrist in my AD, it does absolutely nothing for me. Flat response. No excitement. A lot of my Seikos give me much more excitement than the BB58 as well (e.g. SNA413, SNA411, SARB033/35). I think it could be the perfect symmetry of the BB58 and the simple/plain design that I just find very muted. It doesnt have that unique quirk or flair that every watch should have which gives it a certain identity or charm. I dont really know how to explain it. You would think that I would find the Tudor Chrono BB Panda boring since I find the BB58 boring but it's quite the opposite. The white cream ivory dial, the top red dipped chrono seconds hands that lines up perfectly with the tachymeter bezel, the panda color way with it's subdials, the big bulbous chrono pushers, etc all give it enough flair that gets me excited to put it on all the time. At the end of the day though, the BB58 is an almost perfect watch at an incredible value and I would argue that it wears better than the aforementioned pieces for most people. I am jealous of all the people that get excitement when they slap it on their wrist.
That’s what makes collecting fun! We all like different things! Some people need a flashier and a larger watch with tons of wrist presence, so I can understand that, as I used to be that way. Especially if you’re used to large watches like the Superocean and the Tudor BB chrono, then that would make it tough to adjust to a sport watch like the 58. The beauty of the 58 is that it is a classic, subtle design with on wrist comfort that rivals anything out there, especially any diver out there.
Thanks for the excellent comparison. I prefer the simple Seiko design and your report of easy scratches on the Tudor vindicated my decision to sell my BB41: My instincts told me to sell it because of the polished case.
Peter I have the marine master as well and I just love it. Can’t stop looking at its raw beauty. It certainly speaks to me more than my Swiss beauties.
Great video, personally I love blue watches so good to see a comparison of both of these. Funny watches Tudor though, such great quality and value for money but I never seem to get over the line on one!!!!👍
I've bought two watches recently but oddly enough I gained additional appreciation for my SUN019 with a rubber strap. Love the two watches I bought from Sinn and Seiko Luxe but it's interesting how you come back to the others like the SUN019 and my SKX007.
Yes me too I want watches In to get the emotional sensation from them. I want to keep them have them be valuable and past down to kids and grandkids lol. Love your videos and your reasons for watch collection is identical to mine. Thank you
The blue Tudor BB 58 is my absolute grail. But the two others are stunners too. Sometimes I find it had to decide between Swiss and Japanese watchmaking. The Japanese timepieces outnumber the Swiss timepieces in my collection by a little. What a lucky day mate when you got to purchase the Tudor and went to pick up the Tuna! 🎉
Love Seiko and Tudor. Two of my favorite brands. With that said, I’ve never owned a top tier Seiko diver like this, as my most expensive Seiko was the LE King Seiko, which retails for 3k or so. However, my daily is that blue 58 on bracelet and it’s been my favorite watch that I’ve ever owned. It’s just a joy on wrist and while some watches are finished a little better, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better overall watch for the money. It’s a watch that will be in my collection forever.
Great watches. My three would be Black Bay Heritage Red Cosc, Bell and Ross Sq Diver, and the Tuna. Love all three. Was inclined to put on my Willard re-issue in the slate gray, but your vid compelled me to throw on the Tuna. Your close-up of it. I had forgot. And the close-up of the SLA, yeah it’s so stunningly finished. I think people see the Tudor, but it is so understated, it almost says, “notice, but don’t notice it to me,” in a very conspicuous sort of way. Like the time I noticed Dennis Hopper while out with his girlfriend and was about to approach him, and he just gave me this look, “don’t even.” I got it. I think the unassuming see the Tudor but have reverence for it and it’s wearer. Though I know while waiting in line for the MoonSwatch, this kid had on this bng 58 that I just caught a glimpse of after we had been talking off and on, and I was like, “wow, what are you wearing?!” First time I had seen it in person, and just blew me away.
First, thanks for a fine video. I now own both watches and think you got it right overall. I own the BB58 and think that it is one of the best all-around watches I own. Presence, accuracy, heritage, dial, lume, bracelet are all outstanding. I recently scored an unworn SLA043 for well under half of list, so I grabbed it. Glad I did. As you note, they are different watches with different strengths and different heritages. The Seiko is brilliant, but the OEM straps that it comes with are uninspiring and the lack of regulation is disappointing. But both of these deficiencies can be fixed -- and the result is a dazzling watch. At the end of the day, I would not dispute your scores, even if my own might be slightly different (and in fairness, I have not had as much wrist time with the Seiko as you have). Thanks again for a fine comparison.
Thanks for sharing Marty and great to see both watches in your collection.🔥🔥 Im wearing the SLA as I type this..lovely piece PS how do you find the bracelet on the BB58, any issues with microadjustability? cheers
Wet cool vid. Agree about the BB58 I love mine but it doesn’t have a bold presence on wrist. And I love my seikos too they have something most other watches don’t have and for way less. And seiko lume is unrivaled. Seiko may be my fav brand.
Great comparison, always interesting to quantify the various points. I think your results are very similar to what you see when comparing two very enjoyable cars. Is one really better than the other just because of the values on the paper? No, they are enjoyable for their own reasons, but it’s still fun to put them through their paces!
Really enjoy your perspectives in comparing the two (and the glimpses of MM 300), on a Sunday evening. From all the 3 watches in this video, the Seiko MM 300 tops them all IMO. Perhaps it is my love of the look and tool-ish of MM300. I love the MM300 since I bought my first Seiko diver - the Seiko Monster gen 1.
Seiko watch really have soul...I totally agree that. Why? Because you can't stop watching it, and you pass it to your friend, he'll do the same thing. GS snowflack、Tuna、Marine Master、44GS、62GS、62MAS、Spring Drive、Zaratsu Polishing...
Hi Peter. Man of taste Unbelievable at home Have Rolex. Pepsi. Batman Tudor. This is special under radar. Beautiful watch real tool watch I Great video love the Artemis watch strap Thank ypu again Tc
It's very subjective, but, great analysis. I've got two Tudor bb58 and I love them, though not as much as my Sinns. That Seiko Marine master looked gorgeous.
Truly appreciate you sharing your experience with these two great watches. I was riveted to this review, listening to every word b/c these watches are so impressive (mostly the Seiko SLA043J) and I really like your insight. Thanks again. Hope you have continued success.
I agree, SEIKO Watches have a SOUL. I Also agree that there is no perfect watch. The SEIKO 62MAS Speaks to me. Thanks Peter. Greetings from USA 🇺🇸 to Australia 🇦🇺 Malik.
I’m happy for you… it’s such a great feeling to find a watch that speaks to you. For me the the winner in most categories is the Tudor: it’s more accurate (out of the box), 40% higher power reserve, 2mm thinner, more refined looks (that’s subjective), clean/symmetrical dial, cheaper, probably less likely to lose value, looks awesome with anything regardless of your lifestyle and… I can’t really justify paying that much for a Seiko, which feels way more generic.
This is what I love about seiko, you don’t have to baby your watch and just get to have fun with it regardless if it’s an SLA or an SPB. Both beautiful blue watches and great comparison..👏
In the last couple of days I just happened to come across both of these two watches, pre-owned, in like new condition, for almost the exact same price. I love both of them, but I opted for the Seiko for two reasons: the finishing and secondly, because it's a limited edition it's going to always be hard to get. Whereas the Tudor will always be available for the near future. As an aside, I think the SLA is near the bottom of the trough in value and will likely only be getting harder to find for a good price.
Wonderful video - but it would be more wonderful if you would tell us exactly what you paid In Aussie dollars for each watch, when discussing value for money.
I completely understand what you meant by the Tudor being easy to scratch and the Seiko not. I have had the same experience with my Swiss watches as well. I believe it comes down to the Japanese coating their watches with anti-scratch substances while the Swiss don't. Great comparison! I too reach for my SBBN031 more often than my other more expensive watches and connect with it more.
@@watchouch it’s the same steel that Rolex uses on the sub, OP, explorers and gmt. It looks whiter and has more luster and is harder. It’s not magic or some rare or expensive alloy. It’s just a slightly different alloy that is probably better for watches long term but at the expense of more wear on tooling and slower production.
Great video. I can really tell you love the Seiko, it is fabulous looker. I broke one of my watches fiddling with the movement when I should have left well alone. I loved that watch so much that I bought it again. Would I buy it again? is the question I now ask myself with any new watch I get after having given it a decent amount of wrist time. If I haven't managed to connect to such a degree, I move it on. I generally loose money but not as much as if I keep a watch I'm not going to wear and enjoy.
Congrats on your new BB58 and for your very nicely balanced review. I bought my SLA017 back in 2017, it was the first Seiko re-issue of the 62MAS and truest to the original that I fell in love with as soon as I saw the announcement and pictures on the internet. I paid $3500 back then which most people thought was ridiculously overpriced for a non-GS Seiko but I'm laughing now, LOL. I tried on a 41mm BB (not the 58) but TBH it didn't do anything for me. I do know how you feel about your SBBN031 thought, I feel exactly the same way about my SBDX017 Marinemaster even though I don't wear much these days due to the bulk. Congrats again. Subscribed and look forward to more content:)
Blue is my color. I love blue watches. Even have 3 cheaper blue watches to compare and give away. But I don't have one in my collection that I actually wear. Still looking for a great blue watch I enjoy as much as my simple, daily black Kamasu...
Really enjoyed this comparison. Both watches are excellent, I don't think anyone will be disappointed with either. I slightly disagree with the legibility, I think the Seiko which doesn't have a sharp point on the minute hand means it's not as easy to read between minutes but that's being picky. Also the Tudor has a bracelet, an excellent one of that. I think the score would be even IMO. But that's what this is opinions, I have a disadvantage that I don't own this Seiko, so only observing from the video. Great vid 😁
Yeah you've got a few good point there for sure. I opted for even legibility because the Seiko's hands have bevelled polished sides as well as a flat upper surface which gives the watch an edge on differing angels of view. So even though the Tudor's minute hand has an arrow point, the Seiko makes up IMO. As for the bracelet of the Tudor..love it as well, it just would have been great if it had on the fly adjustability, I would have upped the rating for "value for money" to a 10. Thanks for sharing Chris
*I agree, the BB58’s long minute hand passing over round hour markers improves rapid legibility, especially submerged or in low light, compared to the Seiko.*
I love dive watches. The seiko sla043 is nearly perfect. Regulate the movement and add a adjustment clasp bracelet, and the rolex submariner would have serious competition. I actually think the seiko is superior to rolex , as it is, because at 4k it's half the price of a submariner, but just as well made.
Excellent video. While I prefer the Seiko, do you not think that the 19 mm lug width detracts from "strap changes"? Have you been able to squeeze 20 mm straps into it, or do you have a good source of 19 mm ones?
I have a bb58 blue but don't wear it much, I don't feel like selling it though. My iwc mark 18 is worn all the time, never want to take it off, for me it's an almost perfect watch.
Great comparison and owning both watches I agree with most of your points. Take a look at the RubberB SwimSkin Alligator strap for the Seiko, brings it up a notch 👍🏻
My Seiko 2018 62mas Padi version has the Diashield and with heavy use the only scratch is on the bezel. I assume this Seiko has the DS also. Imagine if this was regulated, had a great bracelet and no bezel back play. Would it then be a perfect watch?
Beautiful blue watches. The deep blue strap on the Seiko really made the watch stand out. The strap probably will look great on the Tudor also. Btw, can you share with us where you got the strap from?
The strap is an Artem sailcloth strap, its the reason why I purchased the blue Seiko Here is a video that explains it: ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
@@PeterKotsa seiko has some of the most fascinating understated pieces. To add to your point. No one notices my tudors. But I get a ton of compliments on my seiko…. And photos can’t really show what they bring out in reality and presence. It’s how it bounces off the light, that detail that few Swiss watch makers have. Stemming from the seiko’s design language & master polishing.
100% agree
Very nice comparison, thanks. Why no breakdown of the actual dials and their colors, tone, reaction in sunlight, etc…?
That’s one of the best sum ups I’ve ever read, well done David
Bravo, sir
There you go! Well said my man
The Sla043 is only 3k$ here in my country
Well said.
JDM watches are some of the best value on the market ATM. From vintage 5621 King Seiko's to neo vintage Credor 6870's.
The Japanese take so much pride in their manufacturing. Wether it’s cars, toys, watches, even clothes.
Yeah but Seiko’s QC has been awful the last few years.
@@marcd7332 very true. I’ve had three out of three fail horribly. Won’t buy another one. For Japanese brands, Casio is my go to. My F-91w… flawless. My mudmaster, an engineering marvel. @@BurntPlaydoh I definitely have them in my sights. But not right now. The right one will come along when the wallet is full.
Nice to hear your personal perspective on two great watches. There are several reasons that I would normally expect to prefer the Tudor, but there is just something about that Seiko, it just looks fantastic 👍
If it had a GS/KS44 style case, this Seiko would be nigh on perfect.
totally wrong this is historical remake of old seiko diver you will destroy its status by comping the ugly grand seiko diver case shape
Great comment as always my friend! 👏
Your videos keep me going, Peter. Thank you,
🙏
I’ve had both these exact watches for over a year. I love both a lot but I like the Seiko just a bit more. So much so that I recently acquired a SLA017.
The Seiko is an absolute beauty, I think this video says it all : ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
@@bushpig6837 yes, totally agree about an applied logo as was in the original..👍
For me, the SLA 043 on any day, knocks it out of the park.
Ive been waiting for this comparison for a while! Great video. Thank you.
Great review, I have the BB58 in black but can’t stop looking at the SLA043, I’m definitely going to get one soon.
I'm sure one will find it's way into your watchbox one day soon
Wait for the 60th anniversary in a couple years time (be patient), I’m sure Seiko will release an absolute stunner of a 62mas. That’s what I’m doing
Great review point by point. Thank you! Your comparison review is one of the bests!
Peter, thanks for the great video - I was on the fence about the value of the SLA043 but I think you've convinced me!
Im still loving mine 👍
I have the SLA037 and that watch is absolutely fantastic!
Thanks as always! Hope your package arrives.
Thanks for sharing Allen
Why are they "a completely different type of watch"? They're both vintage-inspired divers under 40mm form two very respectable brands that in the real world cost and perform about the same. I think it's actually hard to find two watches form different brands that are more comparable than these. Both are great, but if one of these should earn the praise "work of art" for me it surely would be the Seiko.
one of the best and most authentic watch channels, can relate to your story
Cheers....
Thank you for sharing that Tara
Two amazing watches. But that finish in the Seiko case… WOW! Love them both but if I must chose one, at the end of the day, SEIKO is the winner!
@@PeterKotsa To me it doesn't even feel like a BB58. Maybe that's why I like it so much 😁
Great video Peter.
Did you ever by the 051? Looking at purchasing it but I’ve never spent that much on a watch!
@@ethan_t35 I bought a BB58 black and since then have been reducing my collection as it dominates my wrist.
👍
Pete, your reviews are up there with the very best! Thank you, keep it up.👍👍
Glad you like them!
I was thinking about your marks and those are fair enough to me and looking to have my first SLA! I already have my BB58 black dial and adore the little fella! Thanks Peter for sharing your passion and knowledge 🙏🏻 Efaristo! Gracias!
Very interesting rating system. please do more for similar watches!
I'll try my best
Cheers Aaron
I've owned a bb58 and currently own the sla and I think you're spot on with your comparison. Something about the Sla feels like a more dynamic piece. Weirdly enough the Seiko feels more like a stunner and the Tudor is more toolish. You'd think it would be the opposite
Hope that you will do more of these comparison videos - this was really interessting. Well done 👍
Terrific review. The Seiko is gorgeous! Many thanks 🙏 😊
Thanks mate, buy what makes you happy! Agree with that, amen brother.
Aburridos , ése es el término exacto 👍
Smashed it bro congratulations
2:26 - Fantastic observation. Been there, done that. But I couldn’t put my finger on it. 13:39 ties it all together.
I can relate to what you are saying about the Tudor. I own it for over a year now but really never fallen in love with it. It had its short honeymoon period but that's it. I will never flip it as I got it at an AD and will likely gift it to my son at some point.
Interesting.. I wear my BB58, black though, about half of the time.
And I have too many other options. To each their own :)
I think I will be seeing many more scratches on the Tudor in years to come, cheers brother
Peter I have the marine master as well and I just love it. Can’t stop looking at its raw beauty. It certainly speaks to me more than my Swiss beauties.
Yes it’s a strange phenomenon indeed 👍
Great video, personally I love blue watches so good to see a comparison of both of these. Funny watches Tudor though, such great quality and value for money but I never seem to get over the line on one!!!!👍
Exceptional review! thanks for the non-standard comparision.
something a little different 😊
As nice as the seiko is and it is very nice but I would definitely take the Tudor. Another great comparison video as always!
I have rolex and black bay... Now I rarely use them.. bec of sla043... Its my favorite watch...
Have a bb58 and i rarely wear it right now. My mm200 and 63mas are way better
I've bought two watches recently but oddly enough I gained additional appreciation for my SUN019 with a rubber strap. Love the two watches I bought from Sinn and Seiko Luxe but it's interesting how you come back to the others like the SUN019 and my SKX007.
That seiko is gorgeous

Yes me too I want watches In to get the emotional sensation from them. I want to keep them have them be valuable and past down to kids and grandkids lol. Love your videos and your reasons for watch collection is identical to mine. Thank you
I like them both, but if had to pick. The Seiko.
excellent comparison, I love the Seiko blue Dial
The blue Tudor BB 58 is my absolute grail. But the two others are stunners too. Sometimes I find it had to decide between Swiss and Japanese watchmaking. The Japanese timepieces outnumber the Swiss timepieces in my collection by a little. What a lucky day mate when you got to purchase the Tudor and went to pick up the Tuna! 🎉
For me those two are enough to satisfy the perfect complete duo. I have a BB58 black and wish i had your 8L55 movement perfect Seiko. Great video.
Great video Peter! I own the BB 925 and handled the Seiko. Your rating is spoke on.
Enjoy the 925 it’s beautiful
Fantastic and clear review. Subscribed!
Cheers, welcome aboard
Thanks for sharing Marty and great to see both watches in your collection.🔥🔥
Im wearing the SLA as I type this..lovely piece
PS how do you find the bracelet on the BB58, any issues with microadjustability?
cheers
I love Japanese craftsmanship from selvedge denim to watches
SLA043 is on my wish list and it definitely does have a lot of soul...
Wet cool vid. Agree about the BB58 I love mine but it doesn’t have a bold presence on wrist. And I love my seikos too they have something most other watches don’t have and for way less. And seiko lume is unrivaled. Seiko may be my fav brand.
Fantastic comparison

Fair call 👍
When holding these watches in hand, to me the truth is quite the opposite. The Tudor is the generic watch here and the Seiko feels way more special.
@@misterbianco6202 I respect that. Go for what you like 👍
@@wristroll_vlad 👍
Seiko, Tudor and Omega... what more do we need?
I completely understand what you meant by the Tudor being easy to scratch and the Seiko not. I have had the same experience with my Swiss watches as well. I believe it comes down to the Japanese coating their watches with anti-scratch substances while the Swiss don't. Great comparison! I too reach for my SBBN031 more often than my other more expensive watches and connect with it more.
Not just that. The steel Seiko uses called ever briliant steel which proved to be much more effective against scratches from daily use
Loving your videos Peter, keep up the great work!
Cheers Anton, will do mate
Excited to watch this video!
Subscribed and look forward to more content:)
cheers
@@PeterKotsa Yea, the Seiko had good depth in the hand set. Thank you for making the video, really enjoyed it.
@@joeskeptical4762 definitely, setting the minute hand with the point is very easy to do too. Tudor look at the fine details.

20mm straps work fins, I just use the existing fat spring bars from the seiko and slot them i not the 20mm straps..perfect
I have a bb58 blue but don't wear it much, I don't feel like selling it though. My iwc mark 18 is worn all the time, never want to take it off, for me it's an almost perfect watch.
I love the BB58, it is my goal first "luxury" watch
One more category. Dive-ability? Would you dive with the Tudor?
Great comparison and owning both watches I agree with most of your points. Take a look at the RubberB SwimSkin Alligator strap for the Seiko, brings it up a notch 👍🏻
Thanks, will do!
My Seiko 2018 62mas Padi version has the Diashield and with heavy use the only scratch is on the bezel. I assume this Seiko has the DS also. Imagine if this was regulated, had a great bracelet and no bezel back play. Would it then be a perfect watch?
Great video as always! Is there a review for that beautiful marine master coming ? Proud owner of an SBBN031 here
Haven't done a review yet, only this video thus far : ua-cam.com/video/AKE24sghFTQ/v-deo.html
Beautiful blue watches. The deep blue strap on the Seiko really made the watch stand out. The strap probably will look great on the Tudor also. Btw, can you share with us where you got the strap from?
The strap is an Artem sailcloth strap, its the reason why I purchased the blue Seiko
Here is a video that explains it: ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
I love both of them too, but there's just something about the SEIKO that would make me wear it more.
Hi Pete, the interesting question would be SLA043J1 vs the SLA037J1 Hi-Beat 55th limited edition.
Yes indeed.

@@PeterKotsa seiko has some of the most fascinating understated pieces. To add to your point. No one notices my tudors. But I get a ton of compliments on my seiko….
