Seiko SLA043 versus Tudor BB58

- Ever since I purchased the Seiko SLA043J and the Tudor BB58, so many of my viewers have been asking for me to do a comparison video, so I listened and here it is..
The Seiko costs around the $7000 AUD mark whereas the Tudor comes in at $5150 AUD
Let me know you thoughts on both watches
Thanks for watching..
cheers
It's hard to take any variation of the "I wouldn't pay that much for a Seiko" comment seriously. Remove the snobbery and status-symbol mentality and you're left with a completely hand-built watch with real history powered by a completely hand-built, in-house movement, and a case/dial that's finished (again, by hand) to such a level that it requires a macro-lens to fully appreciate, all done by a watchmaker that's been at the forefront of horology since the 1800s. Anyone who thinks $4500 (US) retail seems overpriced compared to the Swiss brands seems less concerned about the quality of the watch and more concerned with what other people think of the the logo that's on the dial.
That’s one of the best sum ups I’ve ever read, well done David
Bravo, sir
There you go! Well said my man
The Sla043 is only 3k$ here in my country
Well said.
The SLA043...
I have owned it since November of last year and I still don't know how to properly describe this watch.
Timeless would be, perhaps, the only one.
The quality of manufacture and finishing is unbelievable, it is, at the same time, vintage and modern.
Vintage because of its look and modern because it passed through the hands of Grand Seiko... And that changes absolutely EVERYTHING.
It is necessary to have had it on your wrist to realize that it is an exceptional watch and you, Peter, knew very well how to speak about it with accuracy. Congratulations!
100% agree
Very nice comparison, thanks. Why no breakdown of the actual dials and their colors, tone, reaction in sunlight, etc…?
HiPeter got my Seiko sla043 Have it over a year My day to day watch Accuracy superb tough wearing Wear it more frequently than my Batman Many thanks again for your excellent review it made me buy it A diamond
JDM always had my attention from cars to watches, when you know how well made they are you immediately know they worth the value even from the cheap Casio to the Seiko and Grand Seiko
JDM watches are some of the best value on the market ATM. From vintage 5621 King Seiko's to neo vintage Credor 6870's.
The Japanese take so much pride in their manufacturing. Wether it’s cars, toys, watches, even clothes.
Yeah but Seiko’s QC has been awful the last few years.
@@marcd7332 very true. I’ve had three out of three fail horribly. Won’t buy another one. For Japanese brands, Casio is my go to. My F-91w… flawless. My mudmaster, an engineering marvel. My edifice, tough solar with all the features I need. Seconds hand hits the markers perfectly every time, all the time. It makes any other quartz analogue watch look like a bubblegum prize or a kinder surprise toy. Bang for buck, Casio can’t be beat.
@@BurntPlaydoh I definitely have them in my sights. But not right now. The right one will come along when the wallet is full.
Great upload Pete.
It made me realise that the emotive connection we have to our watches doesn't get enough play on YT (though I guess Adrian at B & J does it well...).
It's odd how the price and/or prestige of a watch often looses its importance once it's settled into our collection.
My Champagne Alpinist (which I wear on an after market jangly jubilee) is *by far* my favourite watch. It's pretty humble but has its own inexplicable magic - though my Lorier Hyperion (which I've only owned for a few months) is hot on its heels! Another flawed and humble but utterly beguiling watch...
And then - perhaps like your Tudor? - there are watches like my Certina DS PH200M that are special for other, more personal reasons. I *adore* the watch. I also thought long and hard and I took my time with the purchase. What drew me to it was my late uncle, an ex UDT Diver and career officer in the Australian Navy. He had an issued Certina DS-3. When my Certina finally arrived in the mail from the US I felt more... satisfied. And almost proud. Not that usual 'let me at it' excitement! And the watch is still special to me in a way that differs from the pieces I reach for more frequently, even after a good few years.
The 'why I bought it and how I feel about it now' watch stories are a great part of our hobby I reckon.
Cheers mate.
Great comment as always my friend! 👏
I suspect you own a bunch of shitters and are looking for reassurance if your watch collection. Wtf is Certina, just junk filler crap. Not going to happen here! Cheers
Nice to hear your personal perspective on two great watches. There are several reasons that I would normally expect to prefer the Tudor, but there is just something about that Seiko, it just looks fantastic 👍
If it had a GS/KS44 style case, this Seiko would be nigh on perfect.
totally wrong this is historical remake of old seiko diver you will destroy its status by comping the ugly grand seiko diver case shape
Peter, thanks for the great video - I was on the fence about the value of the SLA043 but I think you've convinced me!
Im still loving mine 👍
As nice as the seiko is and it is very nice but I would definitely take the Tudor. Another great comparison video as always!
I have rolex and black bay... Now I rarely use them.. bec of sla043... Its my favorite watch...
Have a bb58 and i rarely wear it right now. My mm200 and 63mas are way better
Great review point by point. Thank you! Your comparison review is one of the bests!
For me, the SLA 043 on any day, knocks it out of the park.
I've been waiting for you to do this comparison haha. I currently own the SLA043 and 925 BB58. I had the BB58 black when I purchased the SLA. I always enjoyed the BB58, but the Seiko made me feel something completely different and the Tudor was gone. A few weeks ago I went to my authorized dealer and they had the 925. I swore I wasn't going to buy another BB58, but I immediately fell for this watch. The dial color struck me and of course I was intrigued by a silver case. I feel like these two can coexist in my collection now much better than the standard BB58
I almost pulled the trigger on the 925 myself before I grabbed the Blue. I too love the colour of the 925's dial, really something isn't it?
Maybe I have to re-visit that idea 😊
@@PeterKotsa To me it doesn't even feel like a BB58. Maybe that's why I like it so much 😁
Thanks as always! Hope your package arrives.
I was thinking about your marks and those are fair enough to me and looking to have my first SLA! I already have my BB58 black dial and adore the little fella! Thanks Peter for sharing your passion and knowledge 🙏🏻 Efaristo! Gracias!
Thanks for fantastic and honesty comparing this two beautiful watch. I’m a Tudor guy, I’m already got beautiful Tudors in my collection (fxd21, 925, LHD, bb41 heritage and bb41 classic) but I’m also have some Seiko and also looking a long time to SLA. Now, after your thoughts I wanted, really wanted try on top Seiko quality and legendary SLA and I’m sure should feel the same us you bro 🤜🤛
Thanks for the excellent comparison. I prefer the simple Seiko design and your report of easy scratches on the Tudor vindicated my decision to sell my BB41: My instincts told me to sell it because of the polished case.
I think I will be seeing many more scratches on the Tudor in years to come, cheers brother
I have the BB58 in black with bracelet. I went to the nearest AD and it was the last one available. The salesman offered me some coffee in longines cups and we talked about watches for 2 hours. The best experience I had in a shop in a long time. This experience contributes how I enjoy wearing this amazing watch.
That seiko is gorgeous
Great comparison video! Interesting a lot of people noticed the Seiko. Aesthetically I love the look of the Seiko’s 62 MAS design. However in the watch community I’ve noticed a preference for more understated, tool-like looking divers like the Tudor. Personally I find them dull but maybe they grow on you over time.
PS Maybe a “dial finishing”category would have been good as well as a “case finishing” one?
Aburridos , ése es el término exacto 👍
Love Seiko and Tudor. Two of my favorite brands. With that said, I’ve never owned a top tier Seiko diver like this, as my most expensive Seiko was the LE King Seiko, which retails for 3k or so. However, my daily is that blue 58 on bracelet and it’s been my favorite watch that I’ve ever owned. It’s just a joy on wrist and while some watches are finished a little better, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better overall watch for the money. It’s a watch that will be in my collection forever.
Thanks mate, buy what makes you happy! Agree with that, amen brother.
I like them both, but if had to pick. The Seiko.
Very interesting rating system. please do more for similar watches!
I'll try my best
Cheers Aaron
Smashed it bro congratulations
Truly appreciate you sharing your experience with these two great watches.
I was riveted to this review, listening to every word b/c these watches are so impressive (mostly the Seiko SLA043J) and I really like your insight.
Thanks again. Hope you have continued success.
Same to you, cheers 🙏
Yes me too I want watches In to get the emotional sensation from them. I want to keep them have them be valuable and past down to kids and grandkids lol. Love your videos and your reasons for watch collection is identical to mine. Thank you

@@joeskeptical4762 Babis simply said, have a good Passover or Happy Easter.
It's very subjective, but, great analysis. I've got two Tudor bb58 and I love them, though not as much as my Sinns.
That Seiko Marine master looked gorgeous.
In the last couple of days I just happened to come across both of these two watches, pre-owned, in like new condition, for almost the exact same price.
I love both of them, but I opted for the Seiko for two reasons: the finishing and secondly, because it's a limited edition it's going to always be hard to get. Whereas the Tudor will always be available for the near future.
As an aside, I think the SLA is near the bottom of the trough in value and will likely only be getting harder to find for a good price.
Seiko watch really have soul...I totally agree that. Why? Because you can't stop watching it, and you pass it to your friend, he'll do the same thing. GS snowflack、Tuna、Marine Master、44GS、62GS、62MAS、Spring Drive、Zaratsu Polishing...
I’m happy for you… it’s such a great feeling to find a watch that speaks to you.
For me the the winner in most categories is the Tudor: it’s more accurate (out of the box), 40% higher power reserve, 2mm thinner, more refined looks (that’s subjective), clean/symmetrical dial, cheaper, probably less likely to lose value, looks awesome with anything regardless of your lifestyle and… I can’t really justify paying that much for a Seiko, which feels way more generic.
Fair call 👍
When holding these watches in hand, to me the truth is quite the opposite. The Tudor is the generic watch here and the Seiko feels way more special.
@@misterbianco6202 I respect that. Go for what you like 👍
@@wristroll_vlad 👍
The sla043 by a half mile. The seiko looks like a premium seiko. The tudor black bay? Looks like a seiko.
Great watches. My three would be Black Bay Heritage Red Cosc, Bell and Ross Sq Diver, and the Tuna. Love all three. Was inclined to put on my Willard re-issue in the slate gray, but your vid compelled me to throw on the Tuna. Your close-up of it. I had forgot. And the close-up of the SLA, yeah it’s so stunningly finished. I think people see the Tudor, but it is so understated, it almost says, “notice, but don’t notice it to me,” in a very conspicuous sort of way. Like the time I noticed Dennis Hopper while out with his girlfriend and was about to approach him, and he just gave me this look, “don’t even.” I got it. I think the unassuming see the Tudor but have reverence for it and it’s wearer. Though I know while waiting in line for the MoonSwatch, this kid had on this bng 58 that I just caught a glimpse of after we had been talking off and on, and I was like, “wow, what are you wearing?!” First time I had seen it in person, and just blew me away.
Fantastic and clear review. Subscribed!
Cheers, welcome aboard
my tudor pelagos was a scratch magnet. very disappointed. treated titanium watches from seiko and citizen are far superior. even my titanium steinhart has a superior finish
Two amazing watches. But that finish in the Seiko case… WOW! Love them both but if I must chose one, at the end of the day, SEIKO is the winner!
I love dive watches. The seiko sla043 is nearly perfect. Regulate the movement and add a adjustment clasp bracelet, and the rolex submariner would have serious competition. I actually think the seiko is superior to rolex , as it is, because at 4k it's half the price of a submariner, but just as well made.
Seiko sla hour markers and hands are finished to a very high level, the distortion at the edge of dial due the crystal somehow elevates the finishing on the markers. That itself separates seiko sla from very standard basic looking Tudor.
Great review! I've owned both. Sold the Tudor. The Tudor is a nice watch, the Seiko is a special watch. The Seiko has a better movement, better case, better lume, better bezel (smooooth!), better crystal, a date. The Tudor is a good-looking watch, the Seiko is a beautiful watch. Totally with you that the Seiko has soul. The Tudor has a bracelet.
The tudor is a great watch but there is something special about the sla043
Totally agree
You’re so right about Seiko - I have a SKX007J1 which can no way be compared to what you have here - it’s full of flaws and weaknesses but it truly has a soul and I adore it - my Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot is superior in every way (except water resistance) and while I respect and admire that watch it is sterile - inanimate - the Seiko is special
I love both of them too, but there's just something about the SEIKO that would make me wear it more.
seiko looks better and feels better on hands
👍
if i can have one ill take the seiko in a heartbeat!!
I own the Seiko Tuna SBN033 with stainless bezel and I believe it eclipses both the BB and Seiko 043 which are both lovely but the Tuna kills it for male's tool watch and the quartz movement is almost perfectly accurate.
Tudor is such a boring looking watch, and the Blue looks so old, like for really old grandpas. Don't get me wrong, i am as old as Peter. Kinda conservative looking watch, for me.
Fair call 👍
Hi Peter. Man of taste Unbelievable at home Have Rolex. Pepsi. Batman Tudor. This is special under radar. Beautiful watch real tool watch I Great video love the Artemis watch strap Thank ypu again Tc
🙏
2:17 This has been my exact experience with the BB58. It's dull, flat, simple, plain, and just overall boring design does absolutely nothing for me. It's like I feel dead inside when I put it on LOL. But then I'll put on my Breitling SuperOcean 42 Blue or my Tudor Chrono BB Panda and I'm an ecstatic kid in a candy store again. I've tried really hard to force myself to like the BB58. Simply because it's such killer value for what you're getting. On paper, it's practically a perfect watch. It has the absolute perfect dimensions imho, it has an inhouse movement, great balanced weight, very respectable brand and heritage, very safe and versatile design that will pair with any outfit, great lume, great accuracy, etc. And yet, every time that I've put it on my wrist in my AD, it does absolutely nothing for me. Flat response. No excitement.
A lot of my Seikos give me much more excitement than the BB58 as well (e.g. SNA413, SNA411, SARB033/35). I think it could be the perfect symmetry of the BB58 and the simple/plain design that I just find very muted. It doesnt have that unique quirk or flair that every watch should have which gives it a certain identity or charm. I dont really know how to explain it. You would think that I would find the Tudor Chrono BB Panda boring since I find the BB58 boring but it's quite the opposite. The white cream ivory dial, the top red dipped chrono seconds hands that lines up perfectly with the tachymeter bezel, the panda color way with it's subdials, the big bulbous chrono pushers, etc all give it enough flair that gets me excited to put it on all the time. At the end of the day though, the BB58 is an almost perfect watch at an incredible value and I would argue that it wears better than the aforementioned pieces for most people. I am jealous of all the people that get excitement when they slap it on their wrist.
That’s what makes collecting fun! We all like different things! Some people need a flashier and a larger watch with tons of wrist presence, so I can understand that, as I used to be that way. Especially if you’re used to large watches like the Superocean and the Tudor BB chrono, then that would make it tough to adjust to a sport watch like the 58. The beauty of the 58 is that it is a classic, subtle design with on wrist comfort that rivals anything out there, especially any diver out there.
Beautiful blue watches. The deep blue strap on the Seiko really made the watch stand out. The strap probably will look great on the Tudor also. Btw, can you share with us where you got the strap from?
The strap is an Artem sailcloth strap, its the reason why I purchased the blue Seiko
Here is a video that explains it: ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
I've bought two watches recently but oddly enough I gained additional appreciation for my SUN019 with a rubber strap. Love the two watches I bought from Sinn and Seiko Luxe but it's interesting how you come back to the others like the SUN019 and my SKX007.
Been putting the seiko SLA somewhere in my future collection in my mind since i watched your review. The “out of GS factory” without the GS branding fits my stealth luxury grail watch. Retailed about $3000 in my country, hope i can get one soon. Awesome comparison!
I'm sure one will find it's way into your watchbox one day soon
Wait for the 60th anniversary in a couple years time (be patient), I’m sure Seiko will release an absolute stunner of a 62mas. That’s what I’m doing
I'm using the Strapcode Jubilee Bracelet for SLA037. I've used Black Bay 58 before, but I think 62MAS has a lot of fun elements. I enjoyed the video. Thank you!
Great review, I have the BB58 in black but can’t stop looking at the SLA043, I’m definitely going to get one soon.
I think the wow factor would have been improved if you went with the OG BB58, gilt and beautiful textured matte black and the red pip at 12. You harkened on the soul of the Seiko but for the reasons I mentioned, the OG BB58, to me, has a huge soul. The blue BB58 is very sterile in comparison.
Maybe that also makes it easier to wear the OG through everything and appreciate its wear and tear whereas the blue one may want to keep pristine
I work in a lab with multiple high power optical scopes. One day i told pictures of my BB58 and SLA using a Keyence HD optical scope. The finishings of the hour and minute hands on the tudor is so mediocre, for the price I would say it is bad, sold the BB58 no long after... Not to mention the MT movement finishing is also mediocre too...
Great video. I can really tell you love the Seiko, it is fabulous looker. I broke one of my watches fiddling with the movement when I should have left well alone. I loved that watch so much that I bought it again. Would I buy it again? is the question I now ask myself with any new watch I get after having given it a decent amount of wrist time. If I haven't managed to connect to such a degree, I move it on. I generally loose money but not as much as if I keep a watch I'm not going to wear and enjoy.
I’ve had both these exact watches for over a year. I love both a lot but I like the Seiko just a bit more. So much so that I recently acquired a SLA017.
The Seiko is an absolute beauty, I think this video says it all : ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
I have the SLA017, It is a thing of beauty. I'm tempted by the SLA037 HI-Beat anniversary model and would be curious to see the ever-brite steel and the darker coating on the SLA017 side by side. It's a shame Seiko saw fit to omit an applied logo on the dial, it would be more true to the original and for the prices these watches command is hard to argue against.
@@bushpig6837 yes, totally agree about an applied logo as was in the original..👍
To my eyes the dial of the Tudor is a mess - circles, rectangles, triangles, cut off hour hand, it does my head in. The Pelagos is a better Tudor but I would choose the Seiko if only it wasnt so expensive.
Big + to the Seiko it has a Date..
Nice review of these watches but there are certain elements in your "list of criteria" that needs to be held up higher when you give a numerical rating. For example I believe the movement should have a much higher ranking than strap changes. I also believe that wearability and value for money are bigger factors to consider. If you gave a higher ranking to these elements the Tudor would be up a bit over the Seiko. Having stated all of this I certainly can see how you feel so strongly about the Seiko. To me the Seiko looks to be better looking watch and one I'd love to have on my wrist!
Seiko murders little Rolex' step brother
I have a bb58 blue but don't wear it much, I don't feel like selling it though. My iwc mark 18 is worn all the time, never want to take it off, for me it's an almost perfect watch.
i felt underwhelmed when i purchased the blue bb58 - i then bought the 925 silver and was blown away. the blue bb58 has now gone to a new owner that appreciates it more than me. The 925 will stay with me for a long time...
Great video Peter. I have to say that I also find the Seiko so much more attractive than the low key Tudor. Proportions, dial and color scheme combined with that exceptional crystal and overall finish just makes it absolutely stunning. A true winner that one.
I just purchased the Yema Superman Skin Diver model and while it's of course not up to the standard of the Seiko, it overdelivers in giving that feeling of something really unique that's hard to stop looking at. I doesn't seem very popular but to me it's fantastic which is all that matters. It really seems to have a soul.
Wonderful video - but it would be more wonderful if you would tell us exactly what you paid In Aussie dollars for each watch, when discussing value for money.
Great review. I totally get what you are saying. I own a Tuna 300m and it has the same effect on me every time I put it on, which is making my next watch purchase really difficult. I have narrowed it down to an SLA051, BB58 or Omega Seamaster 300M. The ‘respectful’ feeling I get when I try on the Tudor and Omega in my AD is there for sure. The wow factor the SLA051 gives me however, is on another level, but I am still holding back on pulling the trigger on either of these three - you have now clarified why. Thank you. I thought I was going crazy! 😉
Did you ever by the 051? Looking at purchasing it but I’ve never spent that much on a watch!
@@ethan_t35 I bought a BB58 black and since then have been reducing my collection as it dominates my wrist.
I wish Seiko able to produce premium dateless dive watch.
Love the Seiko. For whatever reasons, Swiss watches have never grabbed my attention. Could also be the sales person selling me the watch, if I spot a fashion victim or nose in the air, I walk the other way. I always feel comfortable when I walk into a Seiko store, even in the heart of Ginza. Funny, being a creative director and starting out as a typographer, what got me interested in watches in the first place was the Kanji date only found on Japanese watches. Having studied design in Switzerland many years ago, Swiss architecture and culture is amazing.
Same as you. However due to my ‘inverse snobbery’ I’m wondering whether I’m overlooking some Swiss watches. However , I feel you’re paying over the odds for many Swiss brands (Oris included). However some Tudor watches do offer good bang per buck but I just don’t like the look of them.
No Swiss watches with Kanji date? ... ah!, unforgivable. Man, Swiss watches are great, just the price/quality relation of the Japanese caught you, understandable, but Swiss are the greatest.
At 3400 AUD , new, for the SLA - would it change the equation entirely?
The seiko is absolutely beautiful but the price point difference is insane which makes the tudor better value at almost half the price
I purchased my used sla043 for about the same price as a used bb58. Initially the seiko was about 1k more new in the UK. I got in quick and got mine for a bargain price. You can still pick up.a used sla 043 for about 3k, which is about the price of a new bb58. Personally I think the seiko is way nicer and better built than the bb58, and future prices will reflect that. The seiko is limited to 1700 worldwide, whilst the bb58 is mass produced . You can get a bb58 all day long for less than 2.5k used , but the seiko is getting hard to find now, despite it's slow start in sales. If seiko don't make anymore variations of the 62mas , in the sla models, then the 017/039/043 will be incredibly rare in the future .
My Seiko 2018 62mas Padi version has the Diashield and with heavy use the only scratch is on the bezel. I assume this Seiko has the DS also. Imagine if this was regulated, had a great bracelet and no bezel back play. Would it then be a perfect watch?
Strap changing on a Tudor BB is a nightmare, yes removal is not that bad but when it comes to refitting, we'll it took so long to do so, and always at the risk of scratching the watch I never did it again.
tudor sits on the wrist like a brick
these seiko are the most beautiful divers in the world
hm... you have to choose both at the same price. the tudor is around 4k the siko 7k, so i think for the price you get more watch with the tudor
Sell the Tudor and buy two Seiko's ! 🤪
Really enjoy your perspectives in comparing the two (and the glimpses of MM 300), on a Sunday evening.
From all the 3 watches in this video, the Seiko MM 300 tops them all IMO. Perhaps it is my love of the look and tool-ish of MM300. I love the MM300 since I bought my first Seiko diver - the Seiko Monster gen 1.
Really interesting observation on how easily some watches scratch. If the same material is used without any hardening or coatings, shouldn't this be the same? So what makes this difference here? Because stainless steel still scratches easily I have grown really interested in hardening techniques or potentially different alloys, yet all I own is stainless so far. For me, on screen, between these two the Seiko just seems more loveable. There is an instant visual interest that despite the signature handsets, the Tudor just lacks. I think it has also something to do with the blue tone. The Seiko's is darker or more saturated which just appeals more. The Seiko seems desirable even if it's not really my genre and I doubt I'd personally wear it often. That said, I'd like to try it!
Hey Peter. I am a recent new owner of the SLA043. I reached out to Artem and they quickly provided the requested information (model, color
Etc). My question to you is, at 19mm the straps don’t come with a fat spring bar option. Did you switch them out?
Thanks for the help.
No, I have been very happy with the quick release 19mm spring bars on these..no issues at all 👍
Damn. Didnt expect the wow factor goes to Seiko. But when I think about it makes sense. The tudor looks really plain and its hard to imagine what nonwatchpeople care more
SEIKO might have antireflection coating
Seiko doesn't get the credit it deserves imo. Beautiful watch.
I've owned a bb58 and currently own the sla and I think you're spot on with your comparison. Something about the Sla feels like a more dynamic piece. Weirdly enough the Seiko feels more like a stunner and the Tudor is more toolish. You'd think it would be the opposite
I have the SLA037 and that watch is absolutely fantastic!
It's interesting...my BB58 is the watch I lusted after for a long time and then eventually bought. Yet, now that I have it (for about 6 months), I just have not found the affection for it that it probably deserves. I keep going back to my Longines Legend Diver that I bought in 2014, even though it's probably a lower quality and less interesting watch.
Oh, and ditto on the scratches...I baby my Tudor, yet it looks worse than my beater watches :(
Also, Wow factor for watch people that knows a bit or two about watches;
Tudor black bay? Ahh cool another one of these. How original. (Not)
Seiko? Damn that’s a beautiful seiko? I have so many questions. Tell me about it.
Superb piece, this videos pretty much sums it up: ua-cam.com/video/wDJiOGDB0NU/v-deo.html
@@PeterKotsa abselutely awesome video as always.
as much as I love the Tudor my eye keeps wandering to the Seiko
I have the opposite feeling. I have a few seiko watches, but the bb58 blue speaks to me more.
The BB58 is growing on me thats for sure, its just not love at first sight as the Seiko's were. I think its going to be a long term love affair with the Tudor...looking forward to it 👍
Seems you have a "Seiko soul" Peter! :->
Quite possibly, I had a similar feeling with the original Seiko Willard, should never have let that go 😔
I love the BB58, it is my goal first "luxury" watch
One more category. Dive-ability? Would you dive with the Tudor?
They both look great at a glance, however, Seiko is the one that I wanted to look at again and again. The problem with Seiko is their positioning, I can understand why they wanted to go upmarket. But unregulated movement out of the factory? Maybe Seiko was afraid it may take away business from GS. Come on, Seiko , make up your mind.
The Tudor is my next diver to buy for shure, I'm already saving up. I couldn't pay that much for a Seiko, I have my Turtle SRP777, never will sell it, it's THE Seiko diver for me. For higher end under 4000$ I think Tudor is the one to have.
The blue Tudor BB 58 is my absolute grail. But the two others are stunners too. Sometimes I find it had to decide between Swiss and Japanese watchmaking. The Japanese timepieces outnumber the Swiss timepieces in my collection by a little. What a lucky day mate when you got to purchase the Tudor and went to pick up the Tuna! 🎉
If only Seiko made decent bracelets and clasps.
Generally, I agree, but the bracelet that matches this (originally sold with the SLA017) is fantastic in its fit and finish.
Excellent video. While I prefer the Seiko, do you not think that the 19 mm lug width detracts from "strap changes"? Have you been able to squeeze 20 mm straps into it, or do you have a good source of 19 mm ones?
20mm straps work fins, I just use the existing fat spring bars from the seiko and slot them i not the 20mm straps..perfect
Seiko, Tudor and Omega... what more do we need?
Great story and comparisons. Great watches, too. Definite positive food for thought on how to enjoy my various watches I own and those up ownership consideration in the near future.
Btw, I get the fascination with the Tuna. I love the design and have owned several. It's such a cool, unique, and eye catching design. I keep coming back to it... Must have gone through at least 6 different incarnations of the tuna design. I've been looking for the perfect one. That being said, I'm not sure if I've found the perfect one? But, I just ordered a new tuna as it seems to have spoken to me having seen it in person for first time at the Worn & Wound Wind-Up in San Francisco. I can wear and enjoy the full size quartz tunas at about 47mm. Always said it's the best smallest wearing 47mm watch ever. But, I really think the perfect size for me is the new 43mm ones with automatic movements. That's what I recently picked up again. Looking forward to seeing if this is THE tuna for me. Btw, it's the SRPG59 Save the Ocean Antarctic Edition.
Got the SLA043 at a huge preown discount, saved almost half the price from a new piece and the condition was almost brand new. Yes it has the WOW factor over the BB58 (own one as well), mainly due to the colour of the dial differences. Glossy vs Matte. Packaging wise, very disappointed with Seiko, for putting their highest end range watch in a cheap cardboard box. Also, they could have included a bracelet rather than 2 rubber straps.
Totally agree, I would have loved a bracelet for this
As for the box, once I get the watch out of a manufacturers box, I usually never go back to it regardless, be it the Tudor or Omega's or even Seiko boxes
They are just wasted money in my opinion. They should have spent that money they saved on a bracelet for sure 👍
*Considering the Seiko is a more than half century old design but gets noticed anyway, says a LOT about the brand, all good.*
The design heritage of the Tudor is even older, but yes, it is not exactly the watch design from 1954
@@elmarpodiebrad9570*_But PK said the Tudor generated no comments. Whoever noticed it kept that to themselves. The Seiko however, did elicit remarks. You are right, the Tudor’s design is 1950s/60s._*
@@joeskeptical4762 My 5KX Brian May creates more comments than my Tudor either, but I wear my to please myself and not get comments. But even my Tudor got recognized several times.
@@elmarpodiebrad9570 *I have a Rolex which in years has been noticed by only two people: one wearing a Daytona and another with a Breitling Navitimer.*
When strap change weights the same as movement. Ok.
