The 38 might look more classic but I don't mind the larger size, since I have a >7 inch wrist and it sits nicely on the textile NATO.

I really like the idea of the Tsuyosa but I just cannot fathom why Citizen put the 8 series myota inside it. Same reason I can’t believe Tissot put the 80.111, 23 jewel in the PRX. Two huge watch companies launching flagship sports watches should have put higher end movements in them imo. More tempted by the quartz PRX because it’s far better value, and cheaper. It’s also a closer match to the original from the 70s.

Swapped out the original sapphire glass to one with AR coating and the black shiny lacquered dial really showed it beauty, the indices and hands are gorgeous!. Added a micro adjustment clasp extension for the perfect fit.
I have that exact Hamilton Mechanical. Grabbed it for about £260 off eBay used. Would love to say I’ve beat it up by climbing and hiking etc. but I gashed it on a bollard walking into Sainsbury’s 😅 it has travelled a lot with me. I think the perfect dress watch is the Grand Seiko SBGW231 - perfectly proportioned with no date or other complications distracting from its beautiful dial and polishing. Bought it a few months back and can’t stop looking at it!
YES, the GP Laureato is the perfect watch! Thank you, Adrian! It's not as overhyped like the RO or the Nautilus, while being just as historically significant and, in my view, with a much better design with it's brushed and shiny surfaces and rounded and angled shapes being much more balanced than the brute AP design. I just ❤ my Laureato Chrono 🐼!
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Here are the perfect watches in my collection 3861 Sapphire Sandwich Moonwatch, Tudor BB58 Blue, Hamiltonn Khaki Mechanical (white), Seiko King Seiko SJE083 LE, Casio G Shock GWM5610U1. Ive bought and sold a lot of watches in the last few years, and these are the ones that are closest to perfect for me and what I like. I think the Longines sector dial was a great pick by Adrian, as that is one that has been on my short list for some time, but I’d have to disagree in regards to the Longines Big Eye. I purchased that watch a couple of years ago, and it never made it out of the house before I sold it. It is a phenomenal watch in regards to specs, but the case is just too slab sided and thick for my tastes. Another great pick by Adrian is the explorer. That’s a watch I could see myself loving for sure, I just don’t like to buy pre owned, and I don’t want to spend nearly 10k for a brand new Explorer. And I agree that a good alternative to the explorer is a mark series IWC, which is one that I’ve thought about purchasing many times. I think the next one for me will be the Omega Aqua Terra 38 teak dial. That one is seemingly very underrated.
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Hi Adrian. As someone who agrees with you on the 114270 I’m glad you brought up the Mark XX. The IWC finishing is next level and not many people talk about it. I switch between 5 straps including one of your charcoal natos.
I've been a watch fan for 5 years, collector for 3 years. My first was a Moonwatch in 2021. A great watch, probably the best watch money can buy under $10,000. My collection has gone on to see a DJ36, Day Date 36, Coke GMT, Daytona, Batman GMT, DJ41, OP41, as well as a Zenith Defy, Cartier Santos XL, Hublot Classic Fusion (lol). My favorite, by far, is my most recent addition: White Gold Rolex Submariner 126619LB. Its the most beautiful watch I've ever seen on my wrist. It's got history being a submariner, and its got understated luxury due to the white gold. I have worn it every day since buying it in June, with the exception of 2 days where I wore the DJ41. My current collection is now down to strictly Rolex. Minus the Day Date, I've held onto the rest. I would consider buying another Omega at some point, and am interested in Grand Seiko, VC Overseas, and GP Laureato at the moment as well. I'm 29 years old and sports watches are my style, but in 20 or so years I can see myself eyeing up a Patek if God continues blessing me in life. Nice video! Great choices. Would have loved to see a section on World Timers and Moonphases.
Wow, thats an amazing collection. What do you do to afford all those watches? (also just wandering your thoughts on your Rolex GMTs? I've been looking at one for a while and just think they look amazing)
I think for the perpetual calendar, frederique constant has a very interesting options. I know it is not a mechanical watch, but they are truly eye catching and amazing watched
I have an 11 watch wardrobe, ( I don't really 'collect' ), including 3 of those you mentioned, though my speedy is the Ed White version. However it's my 2010 explorer that's gets at least as much wrist time as all the others combined. No setting up the date, no winding if it's worn the next day, super all day comfortable, low key, ( 99% of people don't notice it which suits me just fine ), legible without looking tool or diver, classy, discreet and it's a Rolex. At the risk of appearing smug, wearing a Rolex explorer is a quiet self affirmation of my efforts.
So happy you must be so proud a watch shows your efforts and hard work 💜 when people see the crown they must also think that as well they must think what a hard working classy person 👏
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MaMaCoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
A. Lange is one of my fav brands. If I could afford em . The case is amazing it's thickness is perfect and look amazing, the polishes everything. I love the datograph tye most than the lange 1 than the zeitwerk. One my dream end game watches is the ap royal oak frosted skeleton white gold. What is crazy is for polishing prolly the best polished watch ever is grand seiko the process the use make it so good think it's called Zaratsu polishing
I would do many things for a steel 222, but as an alternative I went for the Cartier Santos medium size. Although it's square, the integrated bracelet just so gorgeously flows into the case on the medium size. The bracelet is flashy yet subdued, and the brand heritage kicks it up a notch. Feels like nothing is on my wrist and I don't need to baby it around water.
MAMACOO is one of my favorite watch manufacturers they do offer beautifull dials, good workmanship & moovements. That smooth sweeping second hand is truly mesmerizing!
Adrian, I agree with you 100% that the 5-digit Rolexes from the 1990s and early 2000s were PERFECT in proportion and design!! Keep up the amazing content!!
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the amzwatch's watches are the most intriguing.

What a nice pick! It really helps to understand that you can achieve a stylish look without breaking the bank. The comparisons were spot-on, and the detailed explanations made it clear why each alternative is a great option!
I own a green laureato and i stopped lusting after royal oak since i bought it, i like it even more. Its so pleasant on the wrist, proportions re perfect too, as well as all the little design details. If more people discover them, they will move up the price, the quality is insane.
Excellent informative video. the 1815 up/down in rose gold is just a complete stunner of a watch and you are so right on getting a non-complicated dial shine through. OTOH, the pepsi gmt master II is for me the rolex. With the jubilee bracelet it stands out but then it doesn't scream a rolex.
I've had the Hamilton KFM 38mm for years and really like it, but recently got the Hamilton Murph 38mm and I like it even more. Both are strap monsters! Love the Rolex explorer design but for the money saved, Hamilton does the job for me.
I rarely comment, but this deserves more than a thumbs up. I enjoyed this thoroughly. It is thoughtful, relevant and hits many of the watches that I personally admire. Terrific video.
Upgraded my Explorer 114270 for the new 124270. Don't know how anyone can say the old one is better! The 124270 is better in every single aspect of the watch. Love it!!
I bought a watch from MaMaCoo lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
Funnily enough, I just got a GP Laureato yesterday. The finishing and dial are amazing, the bracelet is supremely comfortable and it wears and feels like high horology. Not sure why it’s not more popular.
I was going to comment "Let's be honest, no one will spend 12k on a GP", but hey ho, there's still brave people out there. Good on you man! Enjoy it and share it! Definetely a watch conversation starter.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Nice video! I own a 3861 Speedmaster. Walked into a Rolex dealer in Italy a couple of days ago and they had a 36mm Explorer 1 for sale there and then. I nearly, nearly bought it. But after a walk around the block and a coffee I figured I already own one perfect watch, no need to buy another… just yet.
Eventhough I do agree with the beautiful alternatives that are in the video....I feel like some of them can be closer to the main watch such as : Omega Speedmaster --> Bulova Lunar Pilot Vacheron Constantin 222 --> Citizen Forza / Super Titanium NJ0180 OR Citizen Tsuyosa Rolex Explorer --> Nivada Grenchen Super Antartic 3.6.9 Other than these abiove, I think Adrian has got these bang on !
I have a 2023 Explorer in 40mm. I have large wrists so the 40mm is just perfect for me. It's not the most complicated watch in my collection but it is one that is literally capable of being worn with anything for anything. I understand now why people say the only watch you really ever need is an Explorer. It's literally perfect.
For the Lange, take a look at the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Side Step. It’s probably the quirkiest (front side) and most sentimental (back side) Lange. And personally I prefer the 3940 over its successor, but both are great choices.
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from MAMACOO and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
For someone who is just entering the watch collecting world, I appreciate this video. It allows me to see the other brands that normally don’t get mentioned or are known to the newbie’s. Thx again!
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MaMaCoo I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
I’m 2 mins in but had to comment on the editing of the black face and white face speedmaster stitching together and the way the hand sweeps round. Perfectly executed there!
My alternative to the Explorer 1 is the Sinn 556A. I've worn it from working on motorcycles to playing piano at fancy venues. It does it all (If you haven't got the funds for the Rolex).
Amazing video! One addition: I'd like to add the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Auto to your affordable Dress picks. It's dial layout is almost identical to the JLC Master Control Date but with a textured portion in the center part of the dial. Absolute stunner for the price of just 600-800 EUR.
Baume & Mercier Riviera is another great sports watch alternative with heritage. Other options i think are great, im 100% on board with the explorer being considered an icon. It is simplicity perfected. Another option that i would have expected for the A. Lange & Söhne alternative is the IWC Portuguese collection. The base model is simple elegance and nails preportions.
Hi Adrian, Great video. Few comments 1) VC 222 indeed has a high price but availability is not an issue. Here in the US, folks are being offered 222 as first time clients with few weeks/months wait. 2) On GP Laureato, I feel it has few shortcomings. It wears too big for its size. I have handled it multiple times and each time I have been underwhelmed on the case and bracelet finishing. I am comparing it with Alpine Eagle here (between the $11-$15k price range). Whereas GP has the better finished movement, Alpine Eagle absolutely trumps in on dial, case, and bracelet finishing, not to mention the wearability factor. So IMHO, Laureato is not even a leader within its price category, Alpine Eagle is. So that doesn’t help with the comparing it with the likes of Royal Oak and Overseas that easily sit 1-2 tiers above it. Also, now likes of Moser Streamliner, Czapek Antarctique, and Alpine Eagle XPS with the LUC movement are true competitors to Royal Oak and Overseas at the $25k~ price category. Again, thank you for the great work that you do.
I would rather suggest the Sinn 556 A. A watch you will actually use in rough conditions, when your shiny Rolex Explorer will safely remain in its box.
Another alternative inline with the Tissot PRX and the Christopher Ward is the Nivada Grenchen F77. Stunning watch from a company with a proper history.
Good alternative to Hamilton- Citizen Promaster Tough. Just got mine on the strap. Love it. Light weight, sub 12mm thick, 300m water resist, monobloc construction (no case back - solid piece of titanium)... for £350 its superb
An excellent video. Not an easy topic but you pretty much nailed it. Never really considered GP Laureato but this video had really good shots showcasing its beauty. Well done!
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from MAMACOO
There’s a much higher appreciation for the highest quality non-hype brands in Asia. Jaeger-LeCoultre, Glashütte Original and Girard-Perregaux are probably the best examples. A lot of love out there for these.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😊😊😊😊😊
I rarely comment, but this deserves more than a thumbs up. I enjoyed this thoroughly. It is thoughtful, relevant and hits many of the watches that I personally admire. Terrific video.
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of AMZWATCH's watch 99% of people will never see.

Upgraded my Explorer 114270 for the new 124270. Don't know how anyone can say the old one is better! The 124270 is better in every single aspect of the watch. Love it!!
Best video you've done in a while IMO Adrian - missing an out & out diver no?...
Great choices though, especially that 222, utter class!
Congratulations I want one! Beautiful silvery white dial for me please
I was going to comment "Let's be honest, no one will spend 12k on a GP", but hey ho, there's still brave people out there. Good on you man! Enjoy it and share it! Definetely a watch conversation starter.
@@franciscocabrerabrito5945 I wouldn’t dare have bought mine new. Got a preowned one at a substantial discount off retail.
Best 3 watches: Speedmaster, Speedmaster and the Speedmaster. Bonus pick: Speedmaster
I think you have chosen really nice watches with their alternatives. They are all superb watches
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Adrian, an incredible video after a long time!!! U have hit a home run this time my friend!!!kudos!
in summary: here's expensive watches you have heard of, and here's some other expensive watches that you have also heard of that are a similar.
exactly what i thought
All these watches are bangers!
Adrian, that half and half shot at 1:45 is something to behold. Really well done!
I found the perfect watch in the 3861... after i have Rolex.
There's just something romantic about the speedmaster professionals.
Eventhough I do agree with the beautiful alternatives that are in the video....I feel like some of them can be closer to the main watch such as :
Omega Speedmaster --> Bulova Lunar Pilot
Vacheron Constantin 222 --> Citizen Forza / Super Titanium NJ0180 OR Citizen Tsuyosa
Rolex Explorer --> Nivada Grenchen Super Antartic 3.6.9
Other than these abiove, I think Adrian has got these bang on !
MOVADO Museum Classic Gold on black strap. Is perfect.
This is the most validating video ever. I have four of the watches featured (two of the eight and two alternatives)
For the Lange, take a look at the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Side Step. It’s probably the quirkiest (front side) and most sentimental (back side) Lange. And personally I prefer the 3940 over its successor, but both are great choices.
Really enjoyed watching this , I think the longer style videos are where you’re at your best Adrian.
Frederique Constant perpetual calendar as an alternative?
6:11 that's amazing. The onyx dial is phenomenal!
Thx again!
That's because the vast majority of watch channels push the Chinese garbage copy watches.
Yeah this video is really good in that sense
Same here!
100% agree on the khaki field, absolutely love my bronze 38! 14:12
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MaMaCoo I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
Bulova Lunar Pilot as alternatice to Speedy?
I have the 43 mm and absolutely love it!
I love the 1815 up down
Amazing list mate well done and thanks for the video. A Speedmaster never fails to be on a list for obvious reasons. 😍😍
Excellent video -- this kind of content really feels like your bread and butter. Hope to see more of this style in the future.
Fantastic video. The Patek perpetual moon phase is my favorite as well. New sub 😎
I’m 2 mins in but had to comment on the editing of the black face and white face speedmaster stitching together and the way the hand sweeps round. Perfectly executed there!
🙌🏻
All great watches , thank you. The field watches are beautiful.
Great comparison and enjoyed it.😊
My alternative to the Explorer 1 is the Sinn 556A.
Fantastic Video Adrian... " you smashed it " really compelling content... so applicable to everyone.. alike 👍
As a personal preference, JLC Polaris Daytona is just so right for my wrist. (+ Hamilton Murphy 38 on black cordovan strap.)
3 fav watches so far.
Explorer!!! Top top top !
Great video!
Adrian, what happened to About Effing Time? Miss those discussions.
Yeah what happened ;)
Please bring the team back
It’s about Effing Time we get another episode soon.
They announced an indefinite hiatus a while ago, they didn’t have the budget to sustain it.
Watch the end of the Christmas special episode for the answer. There will be no new AET.
Hi Adrian,
Great video. Few comments
1) VC 222 indeed has a high price but availability is not an issue.
Agreed on the GP. I was shocked how big it wore. And I don’t mind larger watches. 38 would be nice but where I was they didn’t have for me to try.
First time clients offered VC 222 😮
Good informative video Adrian!
Great channel, I love the energy and the vibe. Wished you had prices in USD or EUR at least tho..
Really great content! Thank you!
For me the Ranger would be the best Explorer alternative
especially with the anti freeze movement.
I would rather suggest the Sinn 556 A. A watch you will actually use in rough conditions, when your shiny Rolex Explorer will safely remain in its box.
Fantastic vid Adrian! What a collection that would be. I'd probably add a Cartier Santos Dumont 1575 in the dress watch alternatives.
Another alternative inline with the Tissot PRX and the Christopher Ward is the Nivada Grenchen F77. Stunning watch from a company with a proper history.
My favorite watch channel without a doubt.I’m happy to spend my money on MAMACOO watches. I’ve never been let down by their products
A very enjoyable video, and great choices!!
Wonderful video, thank you Adrian!
Well done mate!
Squale 1521, any variation, and Wise Adamascus GMT with Miyota 9075 movement. Exquisite.
Superb content Adrian as always …what a joy !
Man, the IWC Mark XX is perfect. It's the best GADA watch on the market in my opinion.
