I've had this one on my wrist almost daily for the last 2-and-a-half years and it's proven to be indestructible. I don't know what they did with the "ever brilliant steel" but there's not a mark on the case (though the standard-steel caseback shows all the beating the watch has taken). It's still ticking away at within 1-2 seconds a day, and apart from it being a little thicker than I'd like, there's nothing to complain about here. It's one of those rare things that's equally luxurious and durable and can be bounced between the bracelet (the OEM SLA017 bracelet fits it perfectly and is remarkably high quality), rubber, or leather straps to adapt to any outfit. It ain't a cheap watch, but I've found it to be worth every penny I paid for it and a far better value than Swiss stuff selling for thousands more.
Very well said! I enjoyed this one quite a bit also and generally agree with the idea that it’s a good value within the myriad of different models Seiko has made in homage to the original. I think the quality of the bezel insert and how it interacts with the dial color (the perfect blue basically) and the bright case go a long way in giving this watch the style it effortlessly exudes.
I've been looking at the slay43 for a while now and never really knew what a 62MAS was, and what do you know, this video pops up. Super beautiful watches! Side note: Another vote for Michael!
Ive got the 043, and its beautiful. The original is just fantastic, and considering they are 37mm it didn't look much smaller than the 043. The bezel material is a lacquered coated steel , and is a very durable material. I would love an original , but I appreciate the better materials in the re issues. I managed to bag mine for less than $3000 , so hopefully it should hold its value. Not that I really care because its a keeper too.
Very nice! Thank you for the comments and the origin story! I think the 043 has enough uniqueness to make it stand out…it’s not trying to be a 1:1 copy like some of the other re-issues Seiko has put out. You definitely got yours at a great price.
@@soundsoserious , yes I got lucky , but it was missing its original rubber straps. Both were replaced by uncle seiko ones. I'm guessing the previous owner tried cutting the original straps down because they were long. I did get the buckles and metal keepers though. I was hoping seiko would make an everbrilliant steel strap with quick adjustment on the clasp , but hey ho. I still think the 043 is the more interesting re issue as the deep blue face and baby blue hands are mesmerising. The original 62mas like you have is just gorgeous. Its evident that the original is just special. Your lucky to own such a beautiful example. The case shape was pretty generic for its time , but the seiko dial made it special. I still think the sla variants on the 62mas are the best divers seiko have made in the modern era. Some would argue the mm300 , and cost wise they would probably be true. But the mm300 is a big chunky watch , whilst the 62mas are smaller for most wrists. I don't think grand seiko has made a better diver as yet, so the seiko sla 043 is in the top leaque for me , at least .
@@martinharrison4245 very interesting! Bad luck about the straps. There is a bracelet that will fit BUT you’re right, it’s a different steel and it will not color-match. The US straps are excellent though and this one really shines on a strap to be fair.
Yeah I saw that…it looks “nice” but my goodness how many times does Seiko make the same watch over and over and over again? Honestly I’m not a fan of whoever runs this brand now and regarding the 62mas I’m glad I have the original.

What's the strap on the sla043 buddy? Looks very very supple.
It’s a tropic style strap. Very soft and really fits the style of the watch.
Any thoughts on the new SJE093 release?

@soundsoserious Yeah totally agree. They're really abusing 'limited edition'. Disgusting.
(I absolutely must get one)
@@77door97 lol I’ll probably end up with one after awhile too 🤣👌🏼
很赞成博主的观点,SEIKO限定出的太勤快了,给人一种没有很开心的收藏感觉,仿佛明明只有1700枚但搞得好像人手一枚一样可恶😂😢
Thank you for the comment! 😂🥲
You have it on thin springbars that will damage the lug holes of this watch.
Check out DIvecorestore.com they support 2.5mm fat springbars.
Good looking out! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
LOL, got mine brand new for $2,500 two months ago.
Nice! 👌🏼
Same here
Insert is ceramic.
Confirmed? 🤔
Yes. CONFIRMED.
@@Singh_Swede wrong. its Alu with paint coat. search it up
@@harrykuo2573its a stainless steel insert , with a hard laquer coating. Its very durable , like ceramic.
The insert is made of ceramic and the numbers, made of titanium, are pressed in.
The lab test confirms it.
So you’re complaining you bought the sla043 instead of the 017?…
Thanks for the comment! And I think you’re referring to the SBDX019. 😂😚
@@soundsoserious it's the same watch lol
Exactly! 😏
Don’t set your date between 9 and 3 like this if you like to respect it’s mechanics
Very good point. Thanks.
Get a San Martin for 300
Not a bad thought actually. Thanks!
