- In this video I go over how my newborn cloth stash worked out for us. I talk about prefolds vs. flats, and using flour sack towels as flats.
Check out my newborn cloth diaper stash video: • Newborn Cloth Diaper S...
Your newborn stash is the most economical, reasonable, reliable stash stash i ever watch. Thank you for showing the stash and the update.
I absolutely love using flour sack towels!! Been using them for my 2 1/2 yr old daughter since she was a newborn. For at night all you have to do is wrap the flour sack towel in a microfiber cloth like in the car parts section at Walmart. Has worked for us and so super cheap!!! I paid about $5 for about 10 of them!!
Thank you for this review video! I'm expecting my first ever baby in august and I also plan on using prefolds, covers and fitteds for night time. It seems like the most economical system for me as I live in Scandinavia so everything is a LOT more expensive than in the US. Glad it worked for you! Hopefully it'll work for me too :)
Super helpful video, thanks.
Thanks for the review!!
Thank you for sharing... Very helpful
Really helpful video thank you!!
what about covers? what are the best? or what brands are out there?
origami fold might be something u want to try. Nice and simple awesome.. good job mom
fst pad folded I still use on my 19month old.. If I do origami fold I use a cheap micro fiber towel from dollar tree come 3 for a dollar in in the center of under the layers of course... Great cheap functional diaper..
Thanks for the tips!! I appreciate it! I'll try the origami fold next.
Are the thirsties fitted covers or aio? Do you have a link?
What brand are the fitted diapers that you are using for overnight? Thank you for the coconut oil tip.
i think it was thirsties :)
So would you recommend just getting regular face towels for wipes instead of the smaller cloth wipes? Or do you end up using the small wipes for other things? I'm building up my newborn supplies for my second coming in May and trying out cloth wipes this time around :)
Actually, if I had to choose only one kind of wipe, I really like the regular ol' washcloths/face towels as wipes. What I do is I will use the washcloths to clean poops, and the smaller cloth wipes for pee. I feel like I can get her cleaner with the washcloths because they're bigger and more absorbent/textured.
Type1Mama great, thanks for the reply!
you got a different crib ?
hi. great video. may you please share a link to the fitted cloth diaper you like so much? thanks. :)
This is the newborn size that I talk about in this video. Thirsties also makes a one-size version.

Do you ever find that the covers smell after the first or second use? I am thinking of using them with prefolds but im worried about constant leakage to the covers
I haven't noticed that, but it's important that you switch out the cover after a certain number of diaper changes. Maybe if you try to use the same cover for an entire day, by the end of the day it would start smelling. The prefolds do such a great job of absorbing that not much transfers to the covers.
I wonder if your aio leaks because you put coconut oil on her bottom and that causes it to repel? That was one reason mine leaked. I rubbed coconut oil all over to prevent rashes but all my synthetic material diapers would leak after I did that. Or we would go through phases where the fit wasn't great. My expensive fancy diapers let me down a lot lol.
Thanks for the ideas! I think you may be onto something. It could have something to do with that. At least you've given me something to try! And yeah, sometimes the good ol' cheap cloth is better than the fancy stuff!
Could u pls let me know where did u buy Prefolds, flats and covers
If u order them for twins you get a big discount !
where did you find your covers?
I got all my covers online from Amazon. My baby registry was on Amazon, so I put them on my registry. That's why I got them from there.
what diaper covers did you use?
rumparooz; thirsties; and best bottoms :-)
Is it the new natural all in ones by thirsties? Or are they microfiber inside? Generally microfiber isn't that absorbent and newborn all in ones are generally outgrown by absorbency before the size! Some ppl like having nb all in ones, but I think the general consensus is that they are more often than not, not absorbent enough! And a waste of money...
They are the natural ones, but despite that I think it's possible that she's outgrown the absorbency. I think I'm used to a certain amount of absorbency with my prefolds that I'm always surprised when the all in ones start leaking. Is it just a problem with newborn all in ones? Do they work better when you get to the one-size?
thats most likely the case that she is just outgrowing the absorbency... usually onesize all in ones are good for a while, but i know with super soakers people have needed to add doublers to their all in ones... i really like having flats pad folded in pul covers as an easy "all in one" that is a cheaper option and super easy to clean and ready to go... but every one is different! i love flats and prefolds though they are great!
Please do the mommy tag! Or controversial parenting tag!
Ahhh, interesting idea. I'll mention it in my next video and see if anyone else is interested in me doing one of those tags :-)
Is your AIO microfiber ?? Microfiber doesn't absorb as quickly as natural fibers and if she's peeing a lot very quickly, diaper doesn't have enough time to absorb. Also, is there any leg gapping ? If so try pulling up the inner tabs to get a higher fit around her legs :)
Thank you! I will try pulling up the inner tabs so see if that helps, but I think she may be peeing a lot very quickly. When the leaking happens it seems as though it's happening right after she peed, so that could just mean it's a lot and happening faster than the diaper can manage. Although they are not microfiber. They're the new natural fiber thirsties diapers. Still.. I think it may be that the newborn absorbency level is not enough for her. I'll keep experimenting!
Type1Mam
thank you for te coconut oil and meconium tip. Meconium is the worse
Yes! And the coconut oil worked so well! I don't know why more people don't know about it - serious game changer!
Did you put the coconut oil on the diaper or the baby? Sorry if I misunderstood. Also, your overnights where are they from?
