Oh also, I use fleece liners with my prefolds and flats. This creates a stay dry feel on babies bottom. And later when you're having to plop or spray poo, it makes it way easier! You can buy fleece liners (my favorite are Imagine brand) or buy no pill fleece and just cut them yourself (fleece doesn't fray if you cut it). Hope that helps!
Thank you for uploading. I could only find one other on flour sack towels. I want to transition to cloth but haven't been able to catch up on my bills since returning to work just two weeks ago. My baby is 7 weeks and I would like to have transitioned by 3 months if not sooner. I have about 300 to invest so I am going for the cheapest way. But sill want a couple of the fancy diapers like all in ones and all in twos. I am starting with prefolds (or now actually flour sack towels) and covers. But
I have some pocket diapers with snaps on the front. I usually put a liner inside the pocket then one on top of the open diaper along with a layer of fabric on top of that so if he poos, then it doesn't stain the one liner. This morning I did this combination and he wet through to the top. He has good sized legs, but thin in the tummy area. I don't know what we are doing wrong. The cover is dry and the inside liner was dry as he wet through the top.
This can happen if he's sleeping on his tummy. Some pocket diapers have a strip at the top to prevent leaking there. But not all do. I would maybe add some extra absorbency if you can. Like a doubler.
Kawaii does make a great inexpensive cover. I also love Econobum and Sweet Pea covers. Imagine and Nicki's covers are good too if you like double gussets and flaps inside the pocket.
Dappi and Gerber have plain, old-fashioned plastic pants for about $2.50 -$3 apiece. If you dry them hanging most of time, and only on low heat if you dry in dryer, they last well. If you get 4 or 6 in small baby size, and later decide you hate them and want the more expensive kind, you are not out much, and had the use of them while your baby grew into those bulky one-size covers.
I'm new to cloth diapers ... can i use flour sacks only in diaper covers or i have to cover it with some other type of material .. some says not to use microfibre inserts against baby skin .. and which one is better pocket diapers or covers ? and how many i need ? and can i air dry everything coz i don't have a dryer
dana J if you're going to air dry, covers would be best. you can use fleece liners to make the diaper feel dry against baby's skin. I do that. you can buy fleece and cut your own (anti pill fleece) or buy them.
dana J You can most definitely use only fst in a cover or you can do a pad fold and put them in a pocket diaper. When I first started it was a lot easier to do the pad fold and stuff pockets. another great thing I learned was when I do a pad fold, in the last fold put an insert in it. It added absorbancy and was great for night time or if we were out of the house.
How do you keep your flats so flat? Mine get all waffly like Aden & Anais muslin blankets, and then they don't make nice, comfortable folds. I feel like I have to iron my flats to make them not dig in my kids!
+Tamara Richardson I haven't used flour sack towels for diapering(planning to) but I do use them in the kitchen and for pet messes. I find they come out wrinkly the first few washes while they're new and then soften and lay more flat after several washes. Plus they absorb more!
I know this was years ago, but in case anyone else has the same question, if they are wrinkly after washing they are likely muslin fabric, if they are flat, they are likely Birdseye or flour sack towels. Personally I prefer the waffly muslin as it is softer and more absorbent.
im over folding...id rather just save up and get premium bamboo fancy all in ones or twoes...or if on a budget get the cheap ebay china pocket one sise nappys and just put premium inserts...becouse if you have a heavy wetter boy you will need it big time.trust me...and for night time i can highley recoment baby beehinds night nappy..its bulk like you would not belive that it that way for a reason..your baby will never out wee it ever and worst comes to worst only by 2 and wash daily or second daily if you didnt get a 3 am poo.

For newborn covers, you could also do the DIY fleace ones. Since they will grow out of them so fast.

I usually put mine in the dryer and they come out pretty flat. Maybe it's the brand? I don't think I've had any not stay flat.

Don't buy polyester or PUL. you should be going for cotton,hemp,wool
