    I am really interested in the Thirsties Duo size 1s!
    I am currently pregnant and due in September but I wanted to go ahead and get my stash ready and washed!
    I am so lost about what to put on the inside of these covers though!!
    I know I have to get cloth. But do I use inserts like the pocket diapers, prefolds, or actual cloth diapers?
    (I have Nora's Nursery pocket diapers for when she gets bigger and get how those work)

    How many newborn covers did you find you needed for your initial stash? What size insert or trifold did you use with them at newborn stage? Thanks for sharing!

      Jay's Nest thank you-so helpful!! My plan is to fan fold GM prefolds ,snappi and cover. I plan on that being my system for the life of cloth diapering. I'm not sure about umbilical cord fit with the newborn covers because I haven't found any with a snap down for that. Although I have ordered a couple covers from Etsy shop with snap down. I just don't know about the absorbency, quality, fit etc just yet.

      Gmd size 0 covers are great and they have an umbilical snapdown. It's one of the only covers I've seen with an umbilical cord snap down. Lots of newborn all-in-ones have it, but not many covers do.

    I’m bad 😂 every time your newborn videos pop up in my recommended section you persuade me to add to my newborn stash 😂 whenever I get pregnant with my second baby I’ll have to do a video because my stash will be massive at this rate lol I have buttons and thirsties newborn covers right now but I’m thinking I need to get some nickis

  • @HaleysHomestead
    @HaleysHomestead 6 років тому +2

    These three are my top nb faves too! 😁
    I’d say nickis first, Buttons second, Thirsties third.

    I find your videos so helpful and detailed. I was wondering what your top 3 newborn AIOs are..

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 років тому +1

      I could do a video about that. I honestly hadn't even thought of that.
      A short answer to your question:
      Diaper rite nb 3.1, lovely cloth (I use it as an aio even though it's advertised as an ai2), and ragababe size 0. They were the most absorbent aios in my stash

    Any experience with hook and loop thirsties size 1 duo wraps to compare with your love for the snap wrap this time around?

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 років тому

      I don't have the velcro in size 1. Thirsties has excellent velcro though. Probably the second best on the market next to tots bots.

    I noticed the Nicki's cover wasn't snapped all the way down, if the rise was snapped all the way down do you think it would fit a 5lb baby?

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  4 роки тому +1

      The legs were big at 6lbs so I’m not sure this would work well at 5lbs but I think the shape of your baby would make a difference. I know someone in the nickis chatter group posted a photo of her 5lb baby in it and I was surprised. I’ve always considered the nickis nb cover to be a bigger newborn cover. It’s so roomy and fits forever!

    Where did you find those ADORABLE prints from Thirsties Duo?

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  4 роки тому

      I’ve gotten most of mine from the swap pages! A lot of them are limited edition and so that’s really the only place you’ll find those prints now. I wish I had them in size 2 😍 they’re so gorgeous

    Thanks for sharing this! It’s super helpful I really want a newborn cover that has inner flaps as I remember things moving/twisting up with my last baby so I was going to get a bunch of Nikki’s newborn covers but I’m glad I watched this to realize they prob won’t fit a smaller newborn. I got in a buttons cover but since I plan on using it with flats do you think that snap inside for the insert will bother baby? I just got a bunch of flats in and feeling intimidated by how huge they’re

    • @whatgwenloves
      @whatgwenloves 6 років тому +1

      Valerie Heyn hopefully I'm not butting in.... but your flats should shrink a little in the wash. I remember being really intimated too. I found the mini kite fold to be easy with newborns.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 років тому

      I mainly use my buttons cover with flats and I've had no issues with the inner snaps! I mainly pad fold unless using a stretchy flat size 24 x 24 or larger then I'll snappi it on.
      A few covers with a front inner flap: Thirsties newborn/preemie cover, clotheez size O wrap, and the blueberry size 1 capri. The capri should fit a smaller around 6.5/7ish lbs, it'll just be really baggy. But the thirsties nb & clotheez 0 should work well if you're wanting a front inner flap and wanting it to fit a smaller baby.

    what are your top three OS once she fit into OS, but that werent too bulky and are soft/pliable?

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 років тому

      I haven't really used any OS covers on Willow yet. I've mainly been doing pockets and occasionally AIOs. I go through phases of liking different diapering systems. I usually like covers as my kids get older.
      My toddler uses covers a lot. We use buttons, Nickis, and happy flute mainly. Occasionally we use flip and elf covers. None of them are really soft or pliable though, imo..
      Thirsties is one of the most pliable covers but they're thin and idk if I'd necessarily use the word soft to describe it lol. Rumparooz has a soft cover but it's a weird fit. I know my comment isn't helpful 😔 I'm just not doing covers like I did in the newborn phase. I had a larger variety of diapers back then

  • @meganc858

    Did you use Cloth-Eez prefold size small with her when she was first born? I am due with my first next month and wondering if I should get the NB or small size prefold by cloth-eez.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 років тому

      No that would've been way too big on Her at 6lbs. Even newborn prefolds looked ridiculous on her. She was a short 18in. The only newborn prefold that didn't look too big on her at 6lbs was the nickis bamboo xs prefold. It shrank so small that it was a perfect fit for her.
      I didn't start using size small until about 9.5-10 lbs. that's when I stopped using the nb prefolds and switched to size small.
      If you have a larger and longer baby then size small would work. But for a baby under 9 lbs I think small would just look crazy bulky lol

    • @meganc858
      @meganc858 6 років тому +1

      Thank you for your quick reply. Before watching this video I watched your minimalist 2016 nb cloth dipper video. I was wondering because I am starting to buy my nb stash and thought maybe I could skip the nb size. Thank you for your help, I am not going to skip the nb size because the way things are going my baby will be less then 9lbs.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 років тому

      I might do an updated version of that video. My preferences change with each baby I have lol. This time around I would've went with flats & covers as a minimalist stash. In 2016 I loved prefolds & fitteds. This time I'm loving flats lol.
      Also in 2016 my baby wasn't born as small. She was average sized. So things fit a little differently. My newest baby was small but a fast grower. That's the main reason why I like flats this time because they're more customizable and grow with your baby.

      Thank for sharing your knowledge, experience, opinions and all the hard work you do to making these videos. Watching your videos and doing additional research on cloth diapers made my decision much easier for my newborn stash. Half my stash is bamboo Prefolds from Imagine and the other half is cotton flats from GMD. For covers I bought Thirsties Duo Wrap - Snap and Cloth-eez Wrap.

    • @JaysNest

      It sounds like you have a really good stash! Those are all really great diapers. Out of the huge stash I had those diapers were among my favorites! I really enjoy sharing my journey and information I've learned cloth diapering 3 kids in 3 1/2 years. UA-cam is my creative outlet. It also gives me a sense of purpose outside of being a mom.
      I really appreciate your kind words. They're very encouraging ❤️

    Do you have to buy inserts for all in one ?

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 років тому

      For all in ones- no. All In ones have everything included in them. Everything is “all in one” diaper: the absorbency, the water proof layer, and the closure to secure it around baby.
      The diapers in this video do need inserts (NO microfiber though because Microfiber cannot go directly against the skin).
      Flats and Prefolds are common inserts that go with these covers

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 років тому

      These are diaper covers. These are modern day plastic pants.
      It’s just a waterproof cover with no absorbency
