That might be the most charismatic BJ Penn segment I've seen -- I'm really looking forward to this fight. The Machida/T. Silva match-up has me excited as well.
i do wish you luck, and you got the right attitude to have the best change of winning, but remember this interview when it's over. i can wait man you making it sound like one of the best fights ever. haha i respect the both guys skills.
I can't wait for this fight! My guy is GSP but I've got nothing but respect for BJ. Both guys are warriors, both guys are champions. It's going to be one hell of a fight!
Machida, definitely has the skills to be a champ...His stance is traditional, yet he for some reason still moves smooth like a boxer. Crazy unorthodox fighter...mad respect!
many great fighters have fought at different weights. for example, thomas hearns won championships at 5 weight classes, ray leonard (4), roberto duran (4), oscar de la hoya (6), roy jones (4), floyd mayweather won chamionships at 4 weight classes.
Bj you sound like your growing up Son! Im proud of you. I want you to be the best because you are the best you just dont know it! Love you Bro Your a Class Act!
i hope these two guys wont be scared of each other and we see two guys circling the ring like you sometimes see with other fights involving two dangerous fighters.
Cmon BJ, good luck man, you know you can do this, ignore the haters, you seen in danas blog that the people that have a clue what their talking about all know you can do it. will be good to see you win the WW title.
MMA has evolved so much that it's far removed from where it started. The "old UFC" was more like vale tudo. There were very few rules and its selling point was that they were trying to see which fighting style was the best. MMA evolved as fighters began training to be well-versed in all aspects of fighting. As it evolved it became more structured with rules and regulations. It's no longer just about two guys beating the crap out of each other; it's about competition. It has become a sport.
BJ is indeed an exception. His takedown defence is sick and he showed in the first fight that he can do a lot of damage with his hands against a big 170lb'er. I still think he should have to defend his belt a bit longer though, (florian/penn would be a great fight) before being allowed another run at the ww belt.
Size might be the difference. Both equally talented at what they do, both know they can be defeated by others not in their class, so they worked on their flaws. Each man is vastly improved from last time. Will a great bigger man beat a great smaller man? Not sure but that's in GSP's favor. BJ has a few things in his favor. He's got heavy hands and GSP has been hurt and pounded out before. And his takedown defense is awesome and BJJ is superior. If he wins those will likely be the reasons.
the fact that they are in two seperate organizations is what stops these fights.... eddie was sign with dream and elite xc.. now, we will only see him fight in strikeforce... aoki, recognizes that his best competition is in america (he stated this himself... but also said he wants to continue fighting in japan....
this is a tough fight for GSP. B.J. has better stand up, and if Georges takes him down, jj is coming. I dont see GSP finishing him or B.J. gassing now that hes been in shape for the last 3 fights and destroyed Sherk in R3 and looked fresh. B.J. by decision or TKO.
Seems to me that GSP is about as good as he'll ever be. This is the top of his game and I don't think he can lose. Focused and unreal all around. I'v e always been a fan of BJ as well, I'm thinking this goes to GSP though. Can't wait to find out...that I'm sure we can all agree on!!!
it was a rhetorical question. any answer contradicts your claim that they fight to be the best. would evans vs. machida ppv's outsell liddell vs. rua? or evans vs. jackson?
ahh, maybe it taken out of context...lol im probly coming across as the president of his fan club, but one of the reasons why i like him is because hes so talented yet so humble which is hard to say for alot of fighters who have half his skill
so your saying that lw isnt as tough as welterweight because of size and strength, ok ..so if a fighter moves up or down he either adds or subtracts size and strength. So the playing field is leveled between the fighters so what does that have to do with toughness ?
"affliction paid fedor $300,000 while barnett made $500,000 and arlovski made $1,500,000. now that is disrespectful." Andreis paycheck was due to the clause in the UFC contract that gave them the option to match any contract bids. The average Affliction/M1 fighter still makes almost double what the UFC is offering. A box office magnet like Lidell is fighting on 50000 contracts as a thanks for what Dana calls "loyalty".
dudes a modern day "Warrior"...goes balls to that wall each and every time he steps in that octagon...if u hate on him u need to take a long hard look at your feminine ways and check them...both these guys are class acts...BJ is just a lil more savage when it comes down too it and aint ever been nothing wrong with that!
to FFmaxx.. i think sherk's mistake was when he decided to strike standing up with penn..i think sherk only attempted 1 or 2 takedown attempts..he would have had a better chance of winning if he overwhelmed penn with takedowns and penn would have eventually tire out
Not really, the fighters on Affliction are paid way more than the UFC fighters. Fedor Emelianenko Base Pay: $300,000 Rashad Evans for his win over Griffin with his bonus got $130,000 Frank Mir got $45,000 for his win over Nogueira
They are my two favorite MMA fighters. BJ haves a good handstriking and grappling game. St. Pierre is balances in many areas. Like standing and ground fighting. No matter what it will be a good fight. They are like the few classy guys who represent the sport well. While countless other's are just brutes and thugs given a bad name to the martial arts world.
i mean tough to beat, not mental or physical toughness. It's not a simple matter of weight, but a representation of physicality. GSP is taller, has better range via reach and is stronger. toughness, the way you use the word, is intangible and impossible to debate.
A focused in shape BJ Penn is a nightmare for GSP. BJ will take everything GSP has and then some. BJ will then turn the tables and put a beating on GSP worse than the one Matt Serra gave him.
@lakesuperiorfish To be fair, he's a natural lightweight who could make featherweight, who went up to welterweight to take on arguably the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world. Some would say AS is #1, but who cares if he's #1 or #2, the point is he's an absolute beast. As far as I'm concerned, Penn and Fitch have given GSP the best fights. I don't think he was out of shape. I think he was just fighting a machine.
Thiago "Pitbull" Alves is going to have a tough time against my boy Lyoto Machida. Machida has beat so many good fighter Bj being one of them Tito Ortiz , Rich Franklin, and Stephen Bonnar. The sweet thing is that he is not a ko type fighter even though he has ko power. He beats most ppl by decisions and submissions
i agree that pbf should fight pacman. but disagree that boxers that make more money are more or less professional than mmartists that make less, or that mmartists are more or less motivated. if what you claim is true, why doesn't penn fight aoki or alvarez, or even a rematch with sherk, rather than florian?
They said if he beats Penn then he's gonna fight thiago Alves and then the winner of Thiago Silva vs Lyota Machida. If he gets through all that, then they will him Anderson Silva.
ok waht if bj woulda won....think about that???? would he be able to beat thiago alves, jon fitch and all those other guys??..thatd be cool to see penn vz alves what u all think???
First off. Boxing does not suck. Boxing is great. That said, MMA is also great. I love both. BJ's rational about the differences in the two weight classes are moot. He's fighting Georges "Rush" St. Pierre. Someone who beat him already. I'm a fan of both these guys but if he thinks GSP is going to be slower than most lightweights and just stronger because he's a Middleweight he's insane. BJ needed to pack on that muscle for this fight or GSP is going to throw him around.
to be fair....sherk height had aloooott to do with how he failed. if he had been bj's height i think things woulda been drastically different. i dunno who woulda won but i bet it woulda been alot closer than their previous fight.
this will be the best ever fight in agezzzzz this is going to go offff but confident and both absolute machiness but i recon sum1 is going to win with a knockout its just guna go crazy..
should he prove it by fighting evans, griffin, jackson, and so on, or should they just take your word for it? they just want to fight the best, and you're the authority on who that is.
ok i see, but in your original criticism of bj wanting to make people think lw is just as tough as welter W... I would have to say that bj is an exception because he is the only one listed in the lw and welt. class at 5'9 170 the physical attributes you mention are very insignificant... GSP 5'10 170... bj moved up to welterweight and beat matt hughes 5'9 170 a legit. welterweight.. maybe once you start talking about middle or LT.H then maybe I would agree.
not to mention what he did to GSP the first tie he fought him. The first round was all BJ when GSP tried to stand up with him. If GSP stands up he will lose badly.
Penn TKO mid 2nd round GSP is great but i don't think he'll last too long against Penn this time =/ anybody else other than me feel like Thiago Silva is overrated? i just think his stand up game isn't where it should be for a guy in line for a title contention
I actually don't think Penn will gas, but I do think GSP will get him down and hold him down enough to win a decision. BJ could finish GSP w/ a submission or a TKO but I don't see GSP finishing BJ.
you are the authoritard, no question. boxers are only motivated by money, whereas mmartists are only motivated to be the best, except if they work for different companies like penn, aoki and alvarez. and the largest mma promotion is only interested in promoting fights that can make ppv money. i am interested to know which claim will prevail in this round-robin of self-contradiction.
You're playing with words now. Boxing is a form of fighting, amateur or otherwise, as are all combat sports. MMA isn't fighting per se' either if you want to say it like that, it's a sport with rules. Are they different? Well yeah, they are. But it's not up to you to distinguish what fighting is or isn't according to your own rigid definition. The point is Dana has competed before, maybe not in MMA but he has a combat sport background. That's not really to if he's disrespected somebody or not.
i think people are misled about georges st. pierre. he's a talent fighter, but he doesn't have the jijitsu experience that bj penn fighter. BJ penn will win because he's a natural born fighter. he beat a black belt when he was a white belt.
I love BJ, but GSP closed him down and did not give BJ a chance to get into the fight. Great fight for GSP. BJ get back to the drawing board and come back stronger .
bj is never scared of ''CHALENGING'' himself 5 of gsp's opponents claimed he greased and if ur warmed in the first round not use vaseline on ur body why use it for the last 3 rounds
first of all, bj is an amazing talent, but in this video he seems a little nervous, did you notice it? In his voice and actions he seems a little jittery, I don't blame him, but that is bad for a fighter, it usually means their heart isn't in it. I am not talking about anything except how he appears and sounds here, you can hear it, a little shaky in the voice, a little doubt about his age and talking about the scary feeling...maybe he's nicer than he usually acts? more human, I like him now.
He sure didn't show that intensity in their first fight. And if you still agree with yourself, how do you know he's gonna be too intense for Penn this time? They're two different fighters as of right now. BJ's already won the mental game, GSP's nervous system is weak, like Penn said. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Penn that had to see a sports psychologist, lol.
"Dana was a boxer. I can't say I disagree with you all that much, but he's fought. " He's 0-0 in professional boxing with a few years in amateur boxing - I'm 106-13 in amateur boxing (diploma fights included). Am I a fighter? Hes one of the best fighters ever, You obviously are ignorant. Calling him a loser haha thats great. GSP and Penn are both legends who are you to put him down?
rofl, canada does have a military!! in fact, we have more people in the ACTIVE military than the US. The majority of the US military is their reserve forces.
We are going to see the best BJ Penn we've ever seen on Saturday and I can't wait!

When GSP whoops BJ this Saturday, I'm going to say "I TOLD YOU SO!".

UFC is a company, MMA is the sport they promote.
dont care who wins, two top class guys in n out the cage, cant wait

agree, nothing wrong with filling your wallet and "serve "the community. i watch it whenever possible since show 1.
ot > GSP wins by sub.

awesome thanks for that
UFC is currently the main MMA-organization, no matter whether you agree or not... the rest is just the rest, who cares (no, I'm not US)

No matter what it will be a good fight. They are like the few classy guys who represent the sport well. While countless other's are just brutes and thugs given a bad name to the martial arts world.
I know because i'm smart. The reason states have weight classes is because size and strength make a difference.
If Bj is in shape, he'll win
i mean tough to beat, not mental or physical toughness. It's not a simple matter of weight, but a representation of physicality. GSP is taller, has better range via reach and is stronger. toughness, the way you use the word, is intangible and impossible to debate.
GSP has already said he'd like to fight Anderson Silva if he beats Penn. But he's only had 1 successful title defense, why would he move up to MW yet?
A focused in shape BJ Penn is a nightmare for GSP. BJ will take everything GSP has and then some. BJ will then turn the tables and put a beating on GSP worse than the one Matt Serra gave him.

BJ needed to pack on that muscle for this fight or GSP is going to throw him around.
BJ “I didn’t lose, he’s a greaser” Penn
@igianmcfmt18 more than that theres a whole list of people hes fought particularily in champ or high class fights that claim hes greased
@kalaivendran i like bj penn alot, but even if he hasnt tapped he has givin up betweens rounds before
to be fair....sherk height had aloooott to do with how he failed. if he had been bj's height i think things woulda been drastically different. i dunno who woulda won but i bet it woulda been alot closer than their previous fight.
Dana was a boxer. I can't say I disagree with you all that much, but he's fought.
hope for a good fight
BJ Penn is all talk. I can't wait for GSP to knock him out.
who is Fedor? im a little confused.
I'm 100% a GSP fan, but BJ looks like a really tough fighter, this is too close to call for me!
this will be the best ever fight in agezzzzz this is going to go offff
but confident and both absolute machiness but i recon sum1 is going to win with a knockout its just guna go crazy..

How do you know ? Are u a UFC lightweight ...
im thinking just that
Penn TKO mid 2nd round
GSP is great but i don't think he'll last too long against Penn this time =/
anybody else other than me feel like Thiago Silva is overrated?
i just think his stand up game isn't where it should be for a guy in line for a title contention
BJ PENN will win. Period.
GO PENN!
GSP brags? he's one of the nicest most humble guyz out there especially for an mma champion
I actually don't think Penn will gas, but I do think GSP will get him down and hold him down enough to win a decision.
BJ could finish GSP w/ a submission or a TKO but I don't see GSP finishing BJ.
whats gsp's body fat like 2%?
bj is going to win by decision
BJ is hella cool.
its not that the ufc earns less its just that dana probably pockets more
so when BJ loses does he lose his 155 belt? they shoud let GSP rase it up,and then let the 2 155 contenders fight for it....
100%...weights dont teech ya 2 fight...B.J 4 THE KNOCKOUT 2ND ROUND!!!!!
I know you can do it Penn, I have full faith in you. WAR PENN!
I say that BJ wins by choke or GSP wins by knockout with a headkick.
you are the authoritard, no question. boxers are only motivated by money, whereas mmartists are only motivated to be the best, except if they work for different companies like penn, aoki and alvarez. and the largest mma promotion is only interested in promoting fights that can make ppv money. i am interested to know which claim will prevail in this round-robin of self-contradiction.

bj penn is the best.......
i think people are misled about georges st. pierre. he's a talent fighter, but he doesn't have the jijitsu experience that bj penn fighter. BJ penn will win because he's a natural born fighter. he beat a black belt when he was a white belt.
I love BJ, but GSP closed him down and did not give BJ a chance to get into the fight. Great fight for GSP. BJ get back to the drawing board and come back stronger .
This just in, the doctors are saying that BJ Penn dislocated his vagina. Hopefully he can bounce back from this horrible injury.
bj penn for win. garanz. braddah is hungry after the loss.
Sorry guys, but honestly - BJ Penn is winning this one whether you guys like it or not......
FEDOR could take them both at once. Cept piere would hurt him pretty bad. Im betting on piere at this fight
bj is never scared of ''CHALENGING'' himself 5 of gsp's opponents claimed he greased and if ur warmed in the first round not use vaseline on ur body why use it for the last 3 rounds
first of all, bj is an amazing talent, but in this video he seems a little nervous, did you notice it? He's 0-0 in professional boxing with a few years in amateur boxing - I'm 106-13 in amateur boxing (diploma fights included).
Am I a fighter? No. I have done plenty of MATCHES in the SPORT of boxing though, but no FIGHTS.
Is Dana a fighter? HELL NO.
FIGHTING and AMATEUR BOXING is an entirely different beast.
Hes one of the best fighters ever, You obviously are ignorant. Calling him a loser haha thats great. GSP and Penn are both legends who are you to put him down?
yea but dont compare him to a lightweight and a welterweight, obviously he can kick their ass
team penn!
rofl, canada does have a military!! in fact, we have more people in the ACTIVE military than the US. The majority of the US military is their reserve forces.
GSP FTW!!!
im cheering for bj but i think the odds are against him.
although i know neither fighter personally.....bj should've kept his mouth shut cuz gsp is gonna shut it for him
