    I always figured Ron was cheering for Harry cause even though he was upset, he didn't want Harry to, you know... die horribly to a vicious dragon?

      Bruno Bessa True, invalid argument from Chris. Also, Ron made sure Harry knew beforehand that the first challenge involved Dragons.

    you didn't get the Ron-Harry argument at all!!! Ron never was really that mad at Harry, he was jealous that Harry somehow gets to do all these fantastic things that he, and other kids aren't supposed to do. He thought the tournament would just be a lot of dumb fun, and no one would actually get hurt. it was when Harry was fighting a dragon that he actually realized "hey my best friend could die, and he would think I hate him" also Ron was the one that made sure that Harry got to Hagrid to learn about the dragons.

      I was about to type the same thing too xD, btw was moody or should i say barty jr lying when he said that he told hagrid to take him see the dragons and neville to give him the plant because as we see in the movie ron is the one to tell harry about the dragons and neville wasn't going to give harry the plant if harry didn't ask him in the first place, and am sure aswell cedric is able to figure out the egg mystery without the help of barty, so was he lying to harry or he did in fact help him ?

    • @theomegajuice8660
      @theomegajuice8660 4 роки тому +3

      Agreed, Ron is clapping in a slightly self-conscious and uncomfortable way. Much more a "fuck my best friend is actually in quite a risky position and I've been acting like a prick to him for weeks, I really hope this goes well" way rather than a "my friend is doing something really cool and I'm behind his success 100%" way.

    • @matt00794
      @matt00794 4 роки тому +2

      @@amaranadir3015 it's in the books. In the books, Dobby helps Harry with the gillyweed. Barty/moody i think suggests to hagrid that he should tell harry about it.
      @theomegajuisce such a good way of explaining it.

    I don't think Ron applauding to Harry in the dragon trial was a mistake.
    Keep in mind, prior to that, Hermione gives that confusing speech to Harry how Pavati told Seamus who told Dean... blah blah blah... that Hagrid wants to see him. And that's where Harry finds out about the dragons and thus gets prepared for the trial.
    After the trial, Ron admitted he was wrong about Harry, and then explains that Hermione's speech was actually coming from neither Dean nor Seamus, but Ron himself. He was just ashamed of directly coming back to him after all the things he said when he was angry.
    So that means Ron has already figured out the truth AND forgiven Harry BEFORE the dragon trial.

      Neel Parmar I loved this movie but felt it was rushed too. They really needed to break it down into 2 movies I think books 4-7 should've been two movies just like with deathly hallows cause of how much longer they were compared to the first three books.

    One thing ALWAYS bothered me about this movie:
    the "rock" band at the dance scene. I'm sure there's a spell for it, but the electric guitars and microphones all all that jazz seemed out of place for this school environment that uses magic. I dunno just doesn't sit well with me.

      Haha someone didn't read the book. That was a faithfully adapted scene
      from the book, and they were called the Weird Sisters, which inspired a
      lot of Harry Potter rock bands at the time. Nothing was out of place.
      Who said wizards don't have rock stars?

    • @paramortalics
      @paramortalics 8 років тому +2

      Microphones? I seem to remember them using tiny megaphone thingies. For that matter I don't think the guitars even had wires hanging off--a mistake in other movies but perhaps intentonal in this.

    • @MegaCrocosaurus92
      @MegaCrocosaurus92 8 років тому +1

      ***** Well in that case, more power to them for being faithful. It's the music style and electric-sounding instruments to me didn't fit the setting they made. And the music does sound sort of amplified in that garage band sense. Instruments don't always need wires to get amplified.

      SARANSH OBEROI the books started the fun...
      The 6th movie didn't show half the plotline the pre battle of Hogwarts at the end was cut. The humanoids who grabbed Harry and dumberdore was never really explained. The Felix Felicia was never really explained and fullfiled. To much missing and to much cut out. To many plot holes that only focused on the love aspect and not the horror.

    • @saruboss18
      @saruboss18 8 років тому +10

      Have u seen the documentary of HP6 movie , directors cut the battle because there would be battle of Hogwarts in HP8. I agree as they did not want to make it repeatative. I like how they did not explain much about inferi as it added to suspense and horror. I remember in theatre when that scene happened, many people said 'holy shit'. I believe that one of the greatest fear is fear of the unknown.
      Also films are about visual storytelling. Actors directors cinematography, vfx all come together. I have seen that many people and critics ignore the some story flaws if the movie is great, direction and acting is excellent.
      I saw the film first and then read the novel. I liked how mediums were different. If film was exactly the same who would read novel or why would people watch movie if it is exactly like novel.

    I don't see what's wrong with Ron cheering for Harry in the dragon scene? Just because their fighting doesn't mean Ron wants to see him die. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here - but the books really are just heads and shoulders above the films. The films are great - I won all of them on blu ray and I watch them back to back maybe once a year, but the books are something special. I will say The Goblet of Fire film was one of the best in the series - easily. I think for me, it all fell apart at the 6th film. They absolutely BUTCHERED that story. It should have been the best film in the series, but they just cut so much and changed so much that wasn't necessary. I'll be interested to see the review for that film.

      I agree that the tone of films changed completely after Half Blood Prince. They weren't terrible but they certainly felt more rushed. As if the film makers couldn't wait to get it all over with. I kind of blame Chris Columbus for that.

      Matthew Bennett No... I've watch enough of his Harry Potter reviews, this guy is clearly not a huge fan of the books. The movies, starting with pretty much this one, either left out or changed so many great plot details that the fans would've loved to see in the movie. OOTP is prolly the worst offender; literally just the main plot details of the book with everything else omitted. The Dealthy Hallows movies were better at least since it was a 2-parter.

    I guess we could see Ron's attitude in the first task as "holy smokes I just saw 3 people, barely older than me, nearly get burned... Ron wasn't angry at Harry at the first task, remember. He was the one who started the line for Harry to find out that it *was* dragons. He stopped being mad when he saw that the challenge was dragons (remember it's his brother Charlie who brings the dragons) but it was his pride that wouldn't let him come right out and apologize. So of course he would be cheering.

    This used to be my favorite growing up, together with the second part of Deathly Hallows. It's not anymore but it's still great, honestly, despite some cringy scenes that could've been cut and all the missing details in the Crouches' backstory. It was made for runtime, I know, but something had to be put there. It would've made Barty and son's story that much more interesting for people who haven't read the books.
    Anyway, I still love it. The scene of Voldemort's return is _perfect._

      Thank you! Fans don't seem to realize that films don't have to go exactly like the books. The books are great and yes they have more information and story lines but those story lines wouldn't fit into the movies. This movie wouldn't work with SPEW and the movie shows perfectly that the main story doesn't need that plot line to work. And I'm so glad that they didn't include Peeves in the movies because his childish humor wouldn't fit into the films at all! It barely fits into the books! I love the books and I love the movies (except the fifth one, which was written by a different person)!

  • @ginsan8198
    @ginsan8198 8 років тому +5

    You didn't pay attention more deeply into this movie, Chris. Look again at how Ron cheered Harry in the tournament against dragon. We can see from his expression that there was a bit of awkward feeling, because at that moment he knew that he previously were being harsh towards Harry but then he realized that he might be wrong about it. When he cheered Harry, he didn't show that much excitement in his expression, but awkwardness and guilt. It is later proven after that tournament, in which Ron came to Harry and confessed that he had seen Harry the wrong way. I think that scene in which Ron cheered Harry awkwardly is one of the cleverest scenes of this movie. It shows that the director knew exactly what he was doing, opposite from what you see it, Chris.

    This movie IS Better than Prisoner of Azkaban imo! Finally you get to this movie Chris. This film had Much better Acting from the main cast, A lot more great talents like David Tenant, Ralph Fiennes and Brendan Gleeson,. Now THIS is the Harry Potter movie that resonated with SOO many people outside of the fanbase! It was the first movie to Top a Star Wars film that time (Revenge of the Sith) and that's when HP became very mainstream with the general audience. I remember some of my friends who thought Potter was always lame, didn't say that anymore when Goblet of Fire came out. They loved it! I still have hard time deciding whether I prefer this movie more than Order of the Phoenix or vice versa. This film was just amazing from beginning to end, and was quite well adapted. It was surely the easiest of the books to be adapted into film besides the later books, since more had to get cut from it. And Lord Voldemort's introduction in the film is still super intense and dark up to this day!

    Uh, the whole point was after seeing Harry nearly die by dragon Ron realizes that Harry probably didn't want to be involved in a tournament like this and he finally understands that he didn't put his name in the goblet. That being said as a huge fan of the books I HATE this movie so much, it just guts the entire book and it feels like someone is sitting on the fast forward button the whole time. Personally I think they should have split it in to two movies, the book was too big to be done in one movie. The third task was incredibly weak in the movie, the book the maze is full of bogarts, a Sphinx, giant spiders, massive blast ended screwts, and other cool enchantments. The movie gave us killer hedges... snore. Also by showing Barty Crouch Jr at the begining and at the quidditch world cup it makes the world cup stuff completely pointless. Hell I'm pretty sure the movie skips out on explaining how Voldemort was able to plan all of this and how Crouch Jr. helped pull it all off. I can't imagine someone who hasn't read to book being able to follow this shitty movie very well. Finally this movie took out Hermione's house elf rights plot which took away a huge part of her character and a really important subplot of the series.

      Definitely. The movies get dumber and more cheap comedy is added as they go along. The films aren't serious at all until TDH part one and two whereas the tone is serious in the books throughout. The humor in the books is not frequent, but when is shows up it is intelligent. The movies try to incorporate at least one visual gag every three minutes and there is nothing intelligent to them at all. The book series and films series are almost in contrast of each other.

    The life and death situation which harry was in when facing the dragon outweighed the animosity which Ron held against Harry. It didn't need to be explained. They were always still friends. They were just pissed off at each other. Ron's realisation of how perilous the situation was for Harry and that it was something which he wouldn't actually want be a part of (as he first thought) became apparent.

    There are few times I have disagreed with Chris, and sadly this is one of them!
    I get that the director was trying to pull the characters in puberty aspect and chose comedy as a medium. But, the movie was boring. Even the action sequences couldn't save it. And when you put this with the other potter movies, goblet of fire is actually a let down. It could have a perfect stage from the Prisoner of Azkaban, but sadly it squandered completely.

    Chris, I just wanted to point out or reconcile what's going on with Ron when he is cheering for Harry at the first challenge of the Tri-Wizard's Tournament, and I think there are a couple of explanations for his behavior there.
    1. By the time Harry goes out to face the Hungarian Horntail, Ron has seen 3 different older and presumably more capable wizards almost get burned to death facing their dragons. Even Victor Krumm, one of the best flyers in the world struggled against his Chinese Fire Ball. After seeing these 3 horrific attempts, perhaps Ron has come to accept Harry's explanation that he wouldn't have signed up for this voluntarily. Ron says as much later in the post-challenge BFF make up scene. This may explain why he is cheering for Harry when Harry emerges from the tent despite their recent spat.
    2. It is also possible that Ron sees the Hungarian Horntail (having heard about them from his older brother, the dragon tamer) and is just worried about Harry, his best friend of 3 years. Even if Ron did not have the realization mentioned in the above explanation, it is possible that in that moment of fear, his feelings of friendship overwhelmed the anger from their argument.
    Anyway, as a huge Harry Potter fan (both the books and the movies), I just wanted to maybe explain what Rupert Grint was doing there and what the director may have had in mind. Love your channel, and can't wait for Order of the Phoenix!

    This film has a special place in my heart because my cousin was the supervising sound editor on the film. I happened to be going to London (from the US) that same summer. So I got a free place to stay in London, which saved me a TON of money and I got to hear all about what was happening with the movie.

    This one's still the worst.
    Overacted, too foggy looking, breakneck pacing, downgraded musical score, even more melodramatic than the third, plot points utterly cut [such as yes, The Dursleys, but also the character motivation behind Fake! Moody] to the point that things barely make sense.
    I can appreciate No. 3 for some cinematic flare, and the fact that the source material was kinda meh.
    But this was the turning point in the book series where things were to get really dark and the Newell/Cloves team utterly fudged it. Not sure what Chris means by "playing it with such maturity" or "it could've been a soap opera" when that's exactly what happened. Thank heavens Yates came in at 5 and saved it from the Post-Columbus funk.
    For the Series: F
    By itself: D
    Go watch Order of the Phoenix for hilarious teenage hijinx, it's all done far better there.

      Okay fine, C-. It did a decent job with the actual tournament and the ending was well done. But the rest of it just don't work.

      Lol, yeah I agree... I'm assuming that you also saw the Dom's video on this adaptation like I did? Personally, Chris' awful opinion on this film doesn't bother me, but it does upset me to see he gave this crappy film a higher grade than Chamber of secrets (which is my favorite HP film) but Chris clearly read the book, so I can't really blame him for not sitting there scratching his head like I'm sure that most people that didn't read the book did... 😑
