      Castleman Reviews He keeps referring to the subsequent movies/books as sequels. But to me, "sequel" implies like a continuation that wasn't necessarily planned out at first. But literally every part of the HP series was planned out in its entirety from the get go. She knew how everything was going to work out before she even started writing.

      True, nothing is perfect. But the first concept of a Horcrux was right there in the second book, the dairy. Tom Riddle's concisous inside of it. A piece of his soul. She definitely knew what she was going to do with the horcruxes from the start. She didn't just throw that concept in later down the track.

    One of the most underrated parts of this film was the way they did the Basilisk (the big snake). They used Jurassic Park's method of using life size puppets in the close up shots and CG for everything else, making the whole thing that much more convincing.

  • @darkgaara787
    @darkgaara787 7 років тому +4

    The thing with the diary being a horcrux was actually planed. Chamber of Secrets was initially called The Half-Blood Prince, that's why there's alot of conection between book 2 and book 6.
    From wikipedia: "Some objects that play significant roles in Half-Blood Prince first appear in Chamber of Secrets: the Hand of Glory and the opal necklace that are on sale in Borgin and Burkes; a Vanishing Cabinet in Hogwarts that is damaged by Peeves the Poltergeist; and Tom Riddle's diary, which is later shown to be a Horcrux.[39] Additionally, these two novels are the ones with the most focus on Harry's relationship with Ginny Weasley."

      Bose-Einstein It's been confirmed in the past. Rowling may not have had everything perfectly planned out, but she had a layout of the major plot points from the beginning. So maybe she hadn't settled on the concept of the "horcrux" yet, but she knew always knew what the diary's significance would be.

      Actually a huge disappointment, the score for those movies are mediocre. If there is one thing I am unimpressed with Marvel movies, its it's original music. Hopefully future MCU movies will get a better and more memorable theme and music in the future. I don't expect some legendary 10/10 Star Wars type music, but at least not bland AF like the Avengers movies.

  • @TheWriteFiction
    @TheWriteFiction 3 роки тому +1

    Honestly, of all the movies, this one is my favourite. The Chamber of Secrets stepped up the Harry Potter lore in so many ways and provided a very fascinating Agatha Christie mystery tale woven into the plot on top of that. Not only do we see more magic, but also more creatures, more of Hogwarts, the action is more intense, the stakes are higher, and the actor they got to play Tom Riddle was awesome. The Basilisk fight was also super cool.
    Favourite parts though were definitely Harry and Ron's flight to Hogwarts and nearly getting hit by the train, crashing into the Whomping Willow, and Ron performing subpar magic with his broken wand and making himself spit up slugs.

  • @Marth_Shepard
    @Marth_Shepard 7 років тому +3

    JK Rowling worked on the entire story for five years before writing the first book, she was aware of the horcruxes. Chamber of Secrets used to have a lot more elements of the Half Blood Prince in it (introducing horcruxes and explaining Voldemort's powers) but she thought it'd be too early to reveal such important information. It was thought out.

  • @farid1406
    @farid1406 7 років тому +1

    Great review. I think JK did know the diary was a Horcrux in book 2 though as there are signs of the Horcrux concept as early as the conversation between Harry and Dumbledore after the confrontation with the Basilisk in Dumbledore's office. He says that Voldemort put "a bit of himself" and transferred some of his powers to Harry on the night of his parent's murder.

    I'm loving these Harry Potter reviews! It feels refreshing to see reviews like this without a special occasion (though really it's for Jeremy to refresh his memory). As much as I like what Chris Stuckmann does from time to time, there are times when I just feel like I want to see a review of something from a long while back, without seeing it coming, and just enjoy it from a point-of-view that I'm curious to hear.

    I remember I lucked into the Potter universe. Can't even remember how old I was, but my mom's cousin-in-law(if there is such a thing) bought me Sorcerer's Stone for xmas that year, and by new years I had finished it. It was in english, which is only my 2nd language, and I was at an age where I could read and understand it, albeit slowly. There were 3 books released at the time, 4th was announced, and she bought it to me as she had heard great reviews and was convinced it was both an engaging book, and a chance for me to develop my english. She was right on both accounts. I had never been that engaged in a book, ever.
    I can't remember my exact emotions around this time, but I know for a fact I've never been this happy being engaged in a world that didn't exist. I also remember I was devastated none of my classmates had read the book(only one existed in a translated form at the time) or cared much about Potter in general. I had so much to talk about, but no-one to talk to.. This was also before internet became a household thing. My dad had it on his work computer, that I was allowed 1 hour on every day. But dial-up made surfing something out of my hands :p
    When eventually the movies were announced and released, I was like "FINALLY, my friends will understand". Until they didn't Most watched it, few liked it, but no-one cared enough to try and read the books. "Why read a book when you can just wait for the movies?" Bah, unimaginative primals :@

    Tom Felton forgot his line when Draco sees Harry disguised as Goyle, so he improvised "I didn't know you could read".
    Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle) is the oldest actress (age thirty-seven) to portray a Hogwarts student.
    Although based on the second shortest book, this is the longest of the movies. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), which is based on the longest book, is the second shortest of the movies.
    Robbie Coltrane had to turn down a part on The West Wing (1999) to reprise his role as Hagrid.
    Daniel Radcliffe has said that "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is his favorite book.
    The only Harry Potter movie to have a post-credit scene
    J.K. Rowling actually created a guide to teach the cast members how to speak Parseltongue.
    One of two Harry Potter movies not to be nominated for an Academy Award, the other being Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).
    Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and this movie are Chris Columbus' two biggest financial hits.
    Lucius Malfoy slaps Draco's hand with his cane. Jason Isaacs didn't know there were small fangs on the top, so Tom Felton's pain was real
    In the novel Aragog is blind, as his eyes were milky white. In this movie, his eyes are black, implying he can see.
    This is Toby Jones' first voice-over movie. His next one was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010).
    Jason Isaacs provided the voice of the basilisk calling to its victims. Chris Columbus thought Isaacs was so good at doing voice-over work, he asked him to create a creepy sounding voice for the basilisk, considering the book only describes it as a hissing sound.
    (at around 16 mins) When Harry leaves Borgin & Burks a witch walks by the alley close to him, smiling in a creepy way. This witch is played, uncredited, by Pamela Kempthorne.
    Harry's Arania Exumai spell, which Harry learned from Tom's diary and used against the attacking spiders, was not in the book.
    During post-production, producer David Heyman went to visit Richard Harris in the hospital. Though he was very weak from his illness, Harris insisted that the role of Dumbledore not be re-cast. Sadly, Harris died shortly before production was to begin on the next movie, necessitating a re-cast.
    It was Jason Isaacs' idea for Lucius Malfoy to have long, blond hair, as well as carry a walking stick inside of which he would conceal his wand. He grew attached to the stick, and once tried to take it off set before he was caught.
    (at around 15 mins) The opal necklace, which plays an important role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), can briefly be glimpsed inside a display case in Borgin and Burkes' shop in Knockturn Alley when Harry first enters.
    In the UK this became the first movie to achieve a million DVD sales in its first weekend.

    Actually, Rowling did think of the Horcruxes at the time of writing them. Her notes reveal that the second book would introduce the concept, and the chamber of secrets was originally going to be the plotline of the sixth book, probably using the diary as a way to explore voldemort's past, instead of the pensieve. Rowling decided against it because it would make it very obvious that Voldemort would return at some point, and because it would kill the mystery to soon, I guess. But she knew the diary was a horcrux, which is why she had it destroyed with the venomous basilisk fang, and not with magic or with the sword. :)

    Thanks for the reviews Jeremy. I got introduced to the Potter movies quite late when I was 22 in 2015. Have watched the series 3 times since, and I just keep loving them even more. The amazing thing is that all 8 movies are good to great. Not one bad movie in the series. JK Rowling wrote some fantastic books, but the filmmakers also deserve credit for bringing her world so brilliantly to the screen. The spider scene in Chamber and Ron's expressions always amuse me. Excellent scene.

    Are you serious?! I'll bet you any amount of money you like that J.K Rowling definitely knew where she was going with the diary. She'd previously considered putting part of the plot of "Half Blood Prince" into "Chamber of Secrets", but decided to put it in Book 6 because it didn't work in Book 2. (Although full disclosure: it was the "Prince" part she was considering) Do you also think that she didn't know Harry was a Parselmouth when she wrote Book 1? I remember reading Chamber of Secrets when it turned out it was a rare ability and realising that "The Vanishing Glass" incident - which you'd think is just an isolated magical moment when reading Book 1 - is actually a set-up/foreshadow of a pretty important theme throughout the series. I'm not saying J.K Rowling is flawless, but give her credit where credit is due. She plans ahead and you did her a major dis-service here. I'd appreciate it if you'd be big enough to correct your mistake in your next Harry Potter review.

      @Vipes3 7 років тому +1

      Wow, like...you can say he's wrong, and I might even agree with you. Don't know enough to agree with either side really, but to be like "I want a correction from you" is just....pretty dumb. Don't really know if there is a 100% way to know if she did or not...and yes, I'm sure if someone ASKED her today, she'd say, yes of course...but no one really knows if that'd be the truth.
      Point is, don't be such a fan, that you expect "corrections" in people's work, for stuff you can't really prove. Even if you can, what he said was such a small part of the video, to ask for a correction in it...again, its a crossed line.

    • @realistermicloud6479
      @realistermicloud6479 7 років тому

      My source? JK Rowling. Exact links will take me some time because I've absorbed quite a bit of info about the series and how she wrote it from documentaries and interviews etc and I'll have to remember which bits I got from where. I'm pretty sure there's a clip on UA-cam where she talks about how she feels a "writer should know everything" about the world they're writing about. For those who have read the books, not just watched the films, there are plenty moments where you can tell she knew the whole story before she published Philosopher's Stone.
      I did not say, quote, "I want a correction from you". I said I'd appreciate it from JJ if he did - because I have faith that he might be reasonable enough to do that. Not all UA-camrs would. He didn't frame what he said as an OPINION - he just straight up accused her of not planning ahead like he knew best. I mean, you ask for my evidence; where's his?!
      Do not see me as some blinkered fan. I disagree with JK Rowling on a number of issues - mainly political, but also literary - and I'm willing to criticise her where it is due. But I also give her credit where credit is due, and she's a highly skilled author - someone I, as a budding author myself, take inspiration from.
      Last point: I personally don't feel it is dumb or crossing a line to suggest correcting something you've publicly stated. It might seem "a small part of the video" to you, but I believe my OP covered this when I said he did her a major dis-service. JJ has a subscriber base of over a million and this video currently has 114000+ views. You'd think with that kind of influence he'd take the time to fact-check what he's saying first. I'm sorry if you don't think that borderline slander is a big deal. To be honest, an annotation on this video would do; I didn't think of that earlier.

      She definitely had it planned out. The foreshadowing was heavy in the books, and she's even said before HBP came out that plots from CoS were cut out and revisited in book 6. That was the cut out plot.

    I'm just gonna throw in my two cents on the whole "did JK plan for the diary to be a horcux since the beginning or was it retconed to be a horcrux later thing". I definitely think she knew what she was doing. Many people have brought up some good points on both sides, but the clincher for me is Harry himself. Forget book 2 having a horcrux... we find out at the end that we see a horcrux in book one. Harry himself. From the literal beginning of the first book all the years ago Rowling gave Harry the ability to talk to snakes and an undeniable connection with Voldemort. You telling me there was no larger plan behind that and years and years later she said oh yeah i guess that was cuz he was a horcrux or whatever.

    Oh addressing the Avada Kedavra thing: it wasn't really intended that Lucius was gonna kill Harry. This movie was before the proper introduction of the killing curse but the actor, having read the books already, said "Avada" since it was the first spell that popped in his mind and they didn't redo it. 🌠 _The more you know_ 🌠

    I rarely get fooled by what is CGI and what is a practical effect/animatronnic. But I was honestly convinced that Aragog in this movie was CGI. Turnes out he's a puppet! I think they were both really good. I also love how JK rowling was able to come up with such a good name for Voldemort. Tom is a normal name, Marvolo kind of sounds evil and Riddle is just awesome because his life is kind of a mystery up until that point and really still is until the 4th book. Also having the name match to I am Lord Voldemort was genius and why I love J.K Rowling's creativity. This movie scared the shit out of me when the Basilisk is talking through the walls because I was like 7 or 8 when I saw it. By the time I saw Harry potter this movie was already on dvd so the Prisoner of Azkaban is really the first one I saw in theatres.

    The scene of jason isaacs trying to kill harry was one of the first scenes they filmed and hed been reading goblet of fire at that time. In the book no words are said he can just tell hes about to curse him and avada kedavra was just the first spell that came to mind for isaacs so thats why he says it in that scene.

    This is probably hands down my favorite Harry Potter movie but Prisoner of Azkaban is up there too simply because of the A Window to the Past song by freaking John Williams, as far as books are concerned I'd probably say Deathly Hallows if not Order, but this movie really had so much going for it. As it already stands this story has so many memorable set pieces/plot points in the story that practically every chapter something big was going down, and also just still retaining that Chris Columbus atmosphere of the original while expanding on it making it gloomier while still being colorful is really where it's at, and again, very memorable John Williams soundtrack.
