The best magic find boost is being new to the game and have a friend take you to tequatl, after explaining how he has killed tequatl everyday for years and never dropped the Tequatl's hoard exclusive weapon box, you will get an infinite amount of magic find and have a 101% chance of looting said weapon box on your first try and then get a 200% chance of that friend never speaking to you again.
weirdly enough this is more or less how I got my only wupwup weapon chest drop from him years ago :'D returned to the game after a break, stumbled across that worldboss and first time killing it, I got the chest :'D and that was years ago around HoT times. never got another chest from Teq ever after...
My friend has been playing guild wars for 6 years. I had been playing for less than a week. I legit got the hoard box from tequatl before I even unlocked my second specialization slot. My friend resurrected me 5 times during that fight because everything could 1 shot me. A few weeks later once I hit level 80 I started doing fractals with said friend and got 3 ascended rings in the first hour. He refuses to play with me anymore.
Interesting, i play game 4 years now, 2 of that with Expansions and got several ascended loots from Teq. I think 5, 6 or 7 Ascended Weapons Chests. One i got even from Svanir World Boss. I have now araund 250% Luckines!😁🐣😁
You can even get additional 150% MF in the silver wastes. The "Perseverance" buff says "Bonus is momentarily doubled when opening Lost Bandit Chests.". So the second you open a bandit chest, you get 300% MF from the 5 Stacks. If course it's a hustle to split all the stacks in stacks of 10 or so, find a chest, open it and the second it openes click "Use All" on a stack of 10 and repeat. But yeah, it is possible ^^
@@DreiSchwerterZorro Yeah, it's just one second. You can also watch your MF counter in the heros panel, which spikes up for a second when opening a bag.
This was a really valuable video, thanks! The wiki is a great resource, but sometimes it is still too easy to miss out on important points, like the SW buff being 100%+
My base magic find is 288 right now with 19 more from achievements : 307. With all the boost you mentioned and a campfire I boosted myself to like 791, but the one thing I did not know, that I learned from you today (that my wife NOW tells me she always knew, Pffftt!) is the bonus from the Silverwastes. I'll have to try that next time I open, thanks man!
Actually Muk, you can easily reach the cap assuming you have the gold, about 150g will suffice, and you don't need tons of gold for that. If you have the shards from achievements you turn them into mystic kits and with them you salvage ectos and the stuff you get you sell back at the TP. Depending on the prices, you can actually get some minor profit, "minor", because it depends from the prices. I capped my MF with this method "took me a day" since I returned to the game. It's really easy and handy method with some minor loses, but it has to be Mystic Kit in order to work well, otherwise you will end up losing gold. Doesn't work well with copper-fed one since the luck is quite low, and you get little in return.
@@TheLitehero Well it's simple. By salvaging Ectos you get crystalline Dust which sells for the same prices of Ectos (price may vary), but isn't big difference. Sometimes you actually make profit. Btw always buy ectos as order, not directly. From one full stack of Ecots you may get up to 300+ Crystalline Dusts which you should sell, not keep if you want to do this trick. It's an infinite loop and you rotate the gold by doing this simple method. Buy ecto - Salvage ecto - Sell the dust. Repeat until you're cap. You get your gold back as you sell the dust. Only works with Mystic Kit, or SIlver-Fed as they have 25% of getting rare mats. Obviously Mystic doesn't cost any money to Salvage as they are craftable.
@@TheLitehero A lot. Probably over 500+ (stacks, not ectos). But you barely lose gold, if you follow this trick. Best works if you do this each day like 100 stacks per day - no more as you will reduce the prices of Crystalline Dust. Also depending how much you got. If you have like 50% MF, it's like 1k stacks of ectos, possibly more.
Sadly anet decided to remove any buff food from ToT bags. As a result, Halloween oils are ridiculously expensive now. It's not worth buying them, IMO. Especially not for frequent or daily use.
Hi Mukluk, I believe you may be incorrect about Magic Find working on Heart of Thorns containers in your inventory. I believe that what the wiki means is the caches (Exalted Chests) that you open under Tarir after the Meta is over. This would be similar to the Bandit Chests that you find on the ground in Silverwastes that are also affected by Magic Find. "Loot Box" is a common term for the loot dropped by mobs, not actual bags / chests in your inventory. The wiki is pretty clear that the only things in your inventory that are affected by Magic Find are the Divine Lucky Envelopes and Lucky Red Bags during Lunar New Year.
There are a handful of weird exceptions to what's affected by Magic find, but the Exalted Chests under Tarir are not one of them. You can see for a moment at 1:41 that the HoT loot bags that Mukluk opens specifically state "Affected by magic-find bonuses". The is the same description that's listed on Lucky Red Envelopes. The only containers that are affected by Magic Find that don't specifically say so the loot boxes from PvP/WvW Reward Tracks -- the one that Muk points out at 0:22.
@@Autumnsaga13 Thanks for pointing that brief shot of the tooltip out. I thought that it had been accepted that the items from Lunar New Year were the only items that entered your inventory that were affected by Magic Find. I scrutinized the wiki but the wording it uses isn't very clear.
What if create more alt and finish their story for keys and used black lion chest instead? should I get good loots from the black lion? but still "Random is random" haha,
"Random is random" summs it up perfectly. I never really bother with magic find except having the 20% enrichment in my amulet and consuming luck but still I had 4 precursors drop for me so far. 2 within 14 days of each other...
You also get a MF buff for like 1 second after opening a chest on silverwastes, some people like to stack everything and open the chests as they are running on the chest train
Are the permanent magic find buffs from the guild & enrichment on the amulet "BiS" or are there better options for day to day play? & thanks for the guide!
while the enrichment and the guild buff, in addition to basic account magic find, are the only truly permanent buffs - there are other sources you can have active quite often. there are different food and utility buff items which can give magic find in different intensitys and not all of them need you to have a buff active. some might be relatively cheap to attain, which includes festival food that you get in loads during halloween and wintersday for example - assuming you open festival bags and dont sell them, which can last for quite a while before you run out of items. when participating in bigger event with lots of people you can always have a look around near the start, quite often someone will place different banners and sometimes food for everyone there. I would always grab at least the banners in those ocasion. be aware that using a banner while having its buff already active will refresh the buff duration - so no need to wait for things to run out before touching another banner. even if not, banners can be obtained from guild merchants for some gold and commendation, so if you are doing weekly guildmissions you can regulary get some for yourself. if you log in regulary and only play 1 character for the most part, you might also have a decent amount of celeration boosters from login reqrds so you can have those up more often. it mostly comes down to how frequently you want to have how many buffs active and how much you are willing to spend on them - or how much you have stacked up over time. lastly if you got a character with lots of buffs and log out, those buffs will not tick down while you are not playing that character. use that to your advantage to save magic find, karma or any similar buff for later. (also some game areas can remove buffs on entereing, like super adventure box, though they should all put out a warning before you go in make sure not to accidently delete valuable ongoing buffs)
@@GaruruMoon I think you might've misunderstood the question (or I am not understanding your answer). The question was "In daily play, is it the best idea to keep the magic find enrichment and guild upgrades on me 24/7 or should i use something else and only swap to magic find when opening chests?"
@@rinder5 I did take it more as a general magic find question but putting it that way I suppose I missed the mark here. I am unsure as to what the "best" choice is. personally I just go with what I am most ineterested in gaining in a given time period.

So magic find boosters are not needed during farming... Higher magic find percentage is only needed during the opening of the items? It's that correct?
Reaching 1000% guarantees junk not dropping, giving you more chances at loot per bag opening. Which is why they removed the ability to get one of those specific mf buffs.
As someone who has been playing GW2 since a couple months after initial launch, I have to strongly disagree. My magic find now (around 250) regularly gets me rare and exotic gear when identifying "unidentified" green/mastercraft gear, and that never happened years ago, when my magic find was very low. I also sometimes get rare or exotic gear from killing trash mobs, which never happened before.
