    Hello everyone! After finishing Ted Lasso, I had mixed reactions about it but ultimately I was grateful that it was a show in my life and I hope this video serves it justice. Thank you all for watching and I hope you enjoyed Ted Lasso as much as I did!
    As always, I appreciate all comments so let me know what you thought of the video and the show! I love reading them.
    And thank you all so much for your support. I am in the process of writing the script for my next video: Manifest Destiny and Tears of the Kingdom followed by a video on Barry. I hope you stay tuned for them and if anyone would like to support my process, my Patreon link is in the description. Catch you all in the next video!

    I have never been the type of guy to express his emotions, I bottle things in and I never cry. I lost my father 3 years back and when I heard Father and Son by Cat Stevens play in the last scene, and see Ted go back home to his son and see all the lives he had such big impacts on, I felt a wall crashing down in me. I cried for about an hour straight while replaying the scene and I felt so good about it. Ted Lasso is the most amazing series I have ever seen because of its pure emotional impact and life lessons it provides. If I had one word to describe this show, it would be "Pure"

    When Coach Beard speaks to Nate it is a powerful statement on his own story. It was overwhelmingly and powerful story. Same can be said for Higgins at various times in the series- statements with Rebecca or the Diamond Dogs. These characters serve as protagonists who’s gifts are overlooked.

    One of the best parts of Ted Lasso was that warm blanket feeling. What made it stand out was that few shows really approach their subject matter with, as you said, no cynicism. It's an open and honest look at flawed people who grow and, in turn, inspire us to grow also. Your video is in the same vein and was beautifully put. I'm so sorry about your father but love your outlook on getting to say goodbye. Thank you for making this.

    I lost my father to COVID during the pandemic, july 2020. And the saddest part of everything is that i didn't have the opportunity to say goobdye. To say that everything would be fine and that he could go in peace. The part where you talked about your father and Ted's issue with not having the opportunity to talk to his father one last time really touched me. After this, I'm going to look for mental health to treat this problem. Thanks, man. Amazing video!

    I clicked on this recommended video as just a huge fan of Lasso. Then you described with almost eerily accurate details how I myself let my dad go a couple years ago. So crazy similar. I cried. You then made me realize why I held on so tightly to Ted Lasso and it’s cast. I wasn’t ready to let go of my dad, or this show for that matter. I was trying to “be a man” and it was killing me. You did so good on this video. So thank you, from me, a random guy who actually lives in Kansas.

    This video is beautiful! As a 63-year-old woman who has gone through a lot of drama in her life, Ted Lasso brought me so much joy and love in the characters, the show and its overall positivity. But this video really helps me to see the messages even more clearly and deeply. My daughters have encouraged me to get therapy and this video has backed them up and also encouraged me all the more to seek it out. Thank you so much for this video, I was in tears before the end of it just as I was in tears at the end of Ted Lasso. Thank you so much.

    Thank you for showing us a piece of your soul and helping us learn to let go of Ted Lasso in spite of wanting more episodes. Your video was truly one of the more heartfelt things I have watched on youtube and you telling us about your loss and how in ways it mirrored that of what we saw in the show. I myself have similar trauma from experiences with my parents and I am definitely a product of the flaws that they gave me. We are all imperfect beings learning to live life as best we can. Your story of your father made me think of a song that I had recently discovered originally sung by James Blunt but sung by the latest American Idol winner Iam Tongi. Throughout his run in the last season he struggles with a similar recent loss of his father and he uses the song "Monsters". I am sorry if you are already aware of the song but I feel if you are not, it is very relevant to the story you told. Again I want express my appreciation for your words and the part of you life you shared with us through this review of Ted Lasso.

    This has tears streaming away from my eyes. A perfect love letter to a perfect series. I have never been able to explain why this series means so much to me. I believe you may have just explained it for me.
    I can’t let go. I haven’t let go. It’s been six months since my Dad has died, and the grief seems to be getting worse. We started this series out together. Watching every Friday night at my parents house. We would have to bring our just-turned three year-old and try to keep him entertained while we watched it. I was so excited to watch it with my Dad, who had a love affair with English football his entire life. Being an Englishmen himself, I thought he’d appreciate some of the humour. We tried to watch season two with him a few times, but by that time the cancer had a tighter grip of him. He could no longer invest in programs with storylines. His focus wasn’t there. So, I gave up. I wasn’t sure I could watch season three, as his passing was still so fresh. But I did. And it made me feel closer to him. But, I still can’t let go. Maybe - hopefully - in time.

    Thank you for this. My father passed just over two months ago, and this really means a lot.
    I didn't actually know this season would be the last until the very end of what turned out to be the final episode. I wonder how I would have felt if I'd known before.
    I know some people didn't like how season 3 was structured, but it was great to see individual characters get more developed story lines and arcs.

      The fact that season 3 was the last one was shocking, and I'm not surprised that people didn't know. It wasn't advertised as "the final season" too much. Also, I agree that people weren't liking season 3 but it had its ups and downs for me.

I will miss watching new episodes of the show, & I had been quite fearful of falling into a deep depression when it ended; but I found that they wrapped it up in such a wonderful & hopeful way that I was smiling through my tears & felt some hope for my own journey. Ted Lasso's honest & open approach to mental health inspired me to finally seek out therapy for myself again for my own hurts & trauma, I just started with my first appointment this past week.

    I had a very toxic relationship with my father with me never being able to meet his expectations. He passed away due to cancer a couple of years ago, and I was with him when he had his last breath. UA-cam sometimes is weird and suggests random videos that most of the people ignore o just plays it in the background.
    Fortunately , I arrived to this video and I cannot express myself how good it was, I played it just in the right moment in my life where I feel things are about to evolve for me.
    My father had a difficult time with COVID and after that tough time, I learned to appreciate more the time I have with him and my mom.

    My best friend fought like hell against cancer for years. Half a decade. He was going strong. But then, he got Pneumonia and that took him instead. He didn't deserve that. All he did in his life was prioritize everyone but himself. And for that he's taken from all of us. I was just having fun on a beach trip and when I get home I get called that my closest friend ever is dead. And that fuckin hurt.
    Ted Lasso was a beautiful show that hit me so hard. Funeral episode where Ted was talking about his dad to Fieldstone made me cry uncontrollably because it made me think of this.

    Thanks for this insightful video essay and for sharing so personally. Ted's long distance relationship with Henry was one of the aspects of the show that always touched my heart very deeply. I happened to be a long distance father myself and as I write I'm about to start a two weeks Summer holiday with my own son: this is the 9th time in his 15 years of life that we are able to be physically together. I'm really grateful to you for sharing your own intimate goodbye to your dad and I hope I can have the precious opportunity, as you rightly named it here, of saying goodbye to my step-father who just turned 88 this week and is very ill back in my homecountry. Earlier today, I posted a glowing comment to one of the remarkable Ted Lasso finale reactions I had participated in as I had throughout the entire series. As a final thought, I proclaimed that I would not, "be a goldfish" as I could never forget, or ever quite let this astounding series go. But after what you've shared here, I understand now, that was wrong. Thank you for pointing out exactly why I must say goodbye, how I must let Ted go for Henry, and for myself, because everyone experiencing this series, including me, had received 'letting go' as Ted's gift to us..
    Thank you!

    I never knew my father, he died of alcoholism and drug use when I was a baby. As a young person I never thought about it much but as I became an adult I realized that I was extremely angry with him for leaving his family like that. I am probably still angry but my mom married my stepfather and I loved this person very much as the father I had never had. I think this show has helped me to confront that childhood trauma of losing my father and realizing how hard my mother had to work to keep the family together. She was an amazing person and unfortunately we lost her during COVID and I couldn't see her in her last days. That is another trauma I am still trying to cope with but it is getting easier. Again Ted Lasso and all of the stories of growth and redemption has helped me deal with both the loss of my parents (60 years apart!) and living through this pandemic which was so toxic to so many of us. I appreciated your thoughts and your story as well. Clearly this helps you through your struggles and difficult events in your life and I am in awe of the creativity of people like yourself that can make these amazing videos. Thank you for a lovely summary of an important show which will stay with me forever.

    Everyone raved about the show, and I knew I'd probably like it (because it was popular), but it took me forever to actually push start on ep 1. It wasn't until just a few weeks ago, when S3 was already released.
    I'm so glad I finally did, and so glad I waited until now when I could take it all in. This show immediately became, yeah, I think it's absolutely my favorite show. It's just perfect. So many moments I expected unnecessary drama, cynicism, etc., they steered away from it, stuck true to the characters, the heart of the show, and told an absolutely clear and concise story that went far further than I expected. I want more, but I'm so happy with the story they told, and how they ended it.
    A spin off could be alright though, lol!

    I thought this video would cover that amazing speech by Rebecca. the one where she literally acts as an audience stand-in and argues with Ted about all the things he could do. He could stay, he could be the best paid coach in the league... they might be able to convince his ex to relocate, and even if not, Ted could have shared custody and Henry could get an amazing education and benefit from cultural exchange, and and and... the fact that they allowed her to make all those arguments, and then reach her own state of acceptance that no, Ted really is leaving... that was a thing of beauty, to me. To acknowledge all the what-ifs, and then go "but this is the way things are, and we're going to have to find a way to make peace with that". I kind of hated it when it happened, because I wasn't ready to let go. But now that I've had a little time to process it, dang it, I love it.

    • @sablestew
      @sablestew  Рік тому +1

  • @rottensquid
    @rottensquid Рік тому +1

    I reckon myself a pretty insightful viewer, but I missed this dimension of the final season. I've been struggling to pick up what the final season was laying down, but I think you nailed it perfectly.
    I found the final episode frustrating, because it felt like every arc was concluded with minimal confrontation. Nate never had a proper confrontation with Rupert, his false father figure who manipulated him by telling him what he wanted to hear, or his real father, who withheld approval his entire life. Instead, he drifted away from Rupert without confrontation. And his father suddenly spilled over with praise, without a proper explanation of why he'd never done so before.
    I felt like this lack of confrontation pervaded many of the stories, especially Ted's. He softly changes, letting go of his resentment for his father, which fueled his stubborn, sometimes toxic positivity. He never confronts his compulsion to put everyone else's needs before himself. And in the end, he still puts his son before himself, leaving behind the life and future he built. Much as I think children should be the priority in their parents' lives, it shouldn't be to the detriment of themselves. The show set up a dilemma between Ted's new life and his son. But instead of finding a synthesis that served both of these needs, it had him abandon one for the other.
    Letting go can be a wonderful thing. "Be a goldfish" is a great philosophy when it comes to failure. But what about when it comes to success? Do we leave that behind too? Aren't there things worth retaining? "Letting go" of the good along with the bad sounds way too much like that blanket of positivity you talked about, covering up everything rather than dealing with it.

    • @sablestew
      @sablestew  Рік тому +2

      I totally agree with you. I felt like there were a ton of confrontations that didn't happen in season 3 and it left me feeling like I missed a chapter for the show.
      After I saw a bunch of other thoughts about the show, I've realized that when Ted "let go" of his successes and went back home to Kansas, he was now allowed to be more of himself rather than just a positive emotional figure for so many in their lives. My favorite example of this was when Ted rushed off the field due to his panic attack, Rebecca calls asking if he's alright and also says something like "I am going to talk to my mother and I could really use one of your pep talks now."
      He was struggling with a lot in his life and I can see a more positive future for him being back home, despite him leaving his successes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid Рік тому

      @@sablestew That's a really sharp observation. Yeah, I totally see it. Everyone in the show needed to let go of something, and for Ted, it was the need to carry everyone. That would have killed him in the end.
      I think too, the show was exploring the way people looked for confidence outside themselves. For the team, it was Zava. For Keeley, it was Shandi, and then Jack. For Nate, it was Rupert. But none of these people actually gave them real confidence. It wasn't till they found confidence within that they could feel like they were enough. The same applied to Ted. They had to learn that "Believe" came from them, not him.
      Thanks again for the great video.

    Your commentary struck a nerve. My father died with I was just 25. Yes I know that many lose their parents at younger age. But this was a pivotal moment in my life. The very last time my father and I spoke was in June 1980; he then died in November 1980. I lived in Houston, Texas at the time; pursuing my first professional job after college. Then my mother called to inform me that my father had been in the hospital for months. I was outraged they kept this from me. My family justified it by saying "we were protecting you." That call came on a Thursday evening. So I made plans to leave for San Antonio to see my father on Friday after work. Friday morning I got the call that he had died that very Thursday evening. I never got to say "goodbye" to my Dad. That hurt and disappointment tormented me for years. The loss of my father was followed a year later by the death of my girlfriend (kidney disease). I was a complete wreck for years to come.
