oh yeah, this show has some of the absolute BEST show-don't-tell storytelling. Those little glances, for comedy and for drama, and small signals that speak volumes. Whoever's behind those directorial/stylistic decisions, bravo
In case ya'll didn't know, Brett Goldstein is also one of the WRITERS of the show. So, he deserves credit not just for acting Roy to perfection, but also writing him.
No, he doesn't wrote for Roy, since he auditioned for that part, he stopped writing for him because he didn't want to write the char he's playing, it's to self indulgent or whatever
When he headbutted Colin and said he didn't know who it was because he couldn't see so well at night anymore (because he's older than them all), I literally cackled and had to pause the episode.
While Roy is uncomfortable talking to men (standoffish in the locker room, resistant to asking the Diamond Dogs for help, and generally unwilling to play along with the other analysts in the TV studio), he’s really good at talking to women. He’s great with his niece, he’s extremely supportive of Keeley and Rebecca, and he has his whole yoga friend group that we haven’t seen on the show.
I don’t think he’s “uncomfortable” I do think he understands that men in a locker room are not “touchy feely emotive” types so he’s speaking their language. The way his relationship with Jamie develops is a perfect example of him connecting to and supporting a man as a teammate/friend (and the man he should have the most difficulty with because he is his girlfriend’s ex but he overcomes that in a way a lot of people just never do would have been easier to stay jealous and ignore Jamie).
Also, he’s AMAZING with kids. Phoebe, the kids at the school he visits with Ted. the girls’ football team he coaches, the boy from the Christmas episode; Roy is really, REALLY good with children.
I’m missing only one scene. Keeley explains she wants to be buried with a fruit tree growing out of her grave. At the funeral he approaches her, eating an apple: “I got it from a tree outside. Tastes like dead people.” I laughed for a good 10 minutes on that delivery.
In this situation, a hard press is how I would describe my priests hugs as a kid. He’s an amazingly written character that you expect you be one note, but he’s literally an armored shell filled with marshmallows and chocolate.
For someone so young Phoebe's comedic timing is unreal. I hope she has good parents and managers so she doesn't go down the typical child star road because she's super fucking talented.
I love how Ted and Roy are complete opposite personalities, yet they have a mutual respect because they are both centred in honour, patience and maturity despite any hardships.
10:00 is probably my favorite Roy scene, and the one that best captures his character. He's not just looking out for Rebecca, he's genuinely angry that she didn't end up with someone perfect. He's angry and bitter, but it's because he wants the best for his friends
"It's a lovely novel. It's the story of a young girls struggle with the burden of leadership. She journeys thorough space." Best summation of A Wrinkle in Time I've ever heard.
He has a heart of gold and the mouth of a drunken longshoreman; can't open his mouth without uttering an obscenity. A brilliantly written and perfectly acted character. I recently discovered this show and absolutely love it.
I love how Roy seems like the kind of person who would be all about masculinity and competitiveness but he is really a lot deeper than that. His advice to the team captain (forgetting his name) to just have fun like he used to as a kid is such a nice line. He delivers such sweet advice in the most stern demeanor and it just works so well.
An amazingly well written and performed character. Tons of laughs, but then he's at the center of some of the most touching moments of the show. When he plays his final game .......... it got me. And when Jamie punches his Dad and Roy is the first one to comfort him ............ same.
When Roy hugs Jamie after Jamie's father insults him in the locker room, the first time I saw it - there was a loooooooooong pause after Beard ejected the elder Tartt from the locker room. And it dawned on me slowly, a line from the Wrinkle in Time book: "It has to be (him). It can't be anyone else." And then, when he suddenly started walking over to Jamie and grabbed him in a hug, I started SOBBING! Those two are amazing actors, full stop.
Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!
6:48 this rant is fucking iconic and underrated, thank you for including it. vanessa you truly included the best here, somehow there aren't enough videos like this for this show so this is a much needed compilation!
Omg thank you so much, hun! 💕 I really can’t wait for the show to come back so I can do his best moments from s3! In the meantime I need to try and do a video dedicated to the entire show 😊 And his rant about Jamie is truly iconic! 😂
I literally almost died because I made the mistake of drinking something while watching the scene where Roy Kent was smell checking his niece’s breath. Lmfaooo 😂😂😂😂
Roy is an amazing character, and Brett plays him brilliantly, but if we're distinguishing the difference between comedic timing acting and actual acting ability then phil dunster is criminally underrated...basically, I love roy kent and brett Goldstein plays him fantastically, but I think Jamie is the better actor of the 2...
Omg Nessa this is amazing I love it so much. Roy has so many iconic lines and he cracks me up everytime😄 and he’s so attractive it’s really annoying. What a snack
Where’s he been all this time! Thank you Ted Lasso people for producing this so I could watch Brett/ Roy! Thanks to Vanessa. handsome! Love when he growls😏 He’s so handsome.
This is very well done. I identify with this character so much. At some point our feelings became more important than what actually works and it pisses me off. Roy Kent just embodies this vibe so well.
The best character on screen, perfectly played by Brett Goldstein 😁. Perfectly cast as with all the others that make Ted Lasso the best comedy since Friends, Only Fools etc.
Other than the "Fuck!" "NO!" "FUCK NO!" & Growling, him saying, .".I leave them the fuck alone" is just as hilarious and I have said it on a daily basis EVERY chance I get!
I see you took the "Every line is the best line of Roy Kent" which is 100% fair. It's the delivery, tho. 1000% the delivery. The writing is great, but you see those lines coming out of someone like Phil Dunster and it doesn't stick. The little performance touches by Brett Goldstein is so fucking great its hard to watch cause of all of the smiling... I am always smiling when Roy is on screen.
My mom wanted me to watch this show for ages, describing it and saying how funny and cute it was. In these descriptions she told me about Roy Kent and I immediately knew he’d be my favorite. I love excessively angry yet honest and loving characters so much lmfao
I think my favorite scene of Roy Kent in all 3 seasons is when he goes onto the commentator show and the guy asks him how he really feels and he responds, "I think you were a shit manager".... I meant about the game.
This simply could have been titled the best if Ted Lasso season 1+2. Because everybody knows Roy Kent is the best part of Ted Lasso! And that's only because "He's here, he's there, he's every f**king where!"

Ness, I truly hope you had a great laugh while making this video. 😂Cause as serious as Roy is and every other word being fuck… his comedic timing is priceless. 🤣 My favorite scenes are his and Jamies. Truly perfection !!
When the teacher implies that Phoebe is swearing because of Roy and he points at himself in disbelief, cracks me up.
Fuuuuuuuuuuu......nnnnnn
Then he goes fuuuuuuuucckk and even Phoebe is like *Dude*
oh yeah, this show has some of the absolute BEST show-don't-tell storytelling. Those little glances, for comedy and for drama, and small signals that speak volumes.

Just like actual sportsmen, esp rugby & soccer, when they look at the ref in disbelief! Or little children which I think was the joke

He didn't write this character. But he knew he would be perfect for the role.
In case you didn't know, he basically cast himself. He told the story on a talk show
When he headbutted Colin and said he didn't know who it was because he couldn't see so well at night anymore (because he's older than them all), I literally cackled and had to pause the episode.
One of his best and most underrated moments
The casual mention of his night blindness was way funnier than the headbutt itself and it's by far my favourite season 1 moment.
it's not just that he's older, it's a side effect of repeated head injuries, it can make you night blind.
Recently turned 33 and I have had to work some night shifts. I suddenly related to roy so much it was funny
Collin is also the only one with a freaking fucking Welsh accent! 😂😂😂
My favorite Roy Kent quote: “WHISTLE! Oi, I said WHISTLE!” “My lips are sensitive to impure metals and whistles give me mouth hives.”
It’s these little foibles written into the show that elevate it above all others.
Ikr, i was watching a episode of season 3 and I couldn't stop laughing at him yelling "whistle!!!", over and over again.
“Whistle! Whiiiiistleeeeeee”
"You sure you don't want to use a plastic whistle?" - Ted Almost missable line but I loved that he asked.
“This isn’t black, this is dark heather charcoal.” LMAO I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
While Roy is uncomfortable talking to men (standoffish in the locker room, resistant to asking the Diamond Dogs for help, and generally unwilling to play along with the other analysts in the TV studio), he’s really good at talking to women. He’s great with his niece, he’s extremely supportive of Keeley and Rebecca, and he has his whole yoga friend group that we haven’t seen on the show.
We saw them actually. They were watching the love island show that Jamie was on
End of episode 1 of season 2
I don’t think he’s “uncomfortable” I do think he understands that men in a locker room are not “touchy feely emotive” types so he’s speaking their language.
The way his relationship with Jamie develops is a perfect example of him connecting to and supporting a man as a teammate/friend (and the man he should have the most difficulty with because he is his girlfriend’s ex but he overcomes that in a way a lot of people just never do would have been easier to stay jealous and ignore Jamie).

Coming here to say that @@LokRevenant his report with children is off the chains
The character development of Roy Kent is phenomenal. Jaime Tart never stood a chance against him for Keeley’s heart.
"Go after the bus driver and make him pay for what he did to me. Avenge me, Keeley. Avenge me!" God Roy Kent is the best character in all of TV.
Channeled his inner Red Dawn
I laughed so hard the first time I heard that line.
“What have you got to be sad about? Did one of the Paw Patrol dogs die?” is a completely underrated quote
Agreed. I just keep thinking about how the show would approach that.
When Keeley mocked him and he said 'that's actually pretty good' is when I fell in love with his character.
Me too
I’m missing only one scene. Keeley explains she wants to be buried with a fruit tree growing out of her grave. At the funeral he approaches her, eating an apple: “I got it from a tree outside. Tastes like dead people.” I laughed for a good 10 minutes on that delivery.
Agreed that this scene should be included and I laughed hard and long following that line. LOL
I’m hard pressed to say that Roy Kent is one of the best characters ever written, in all of cinema history
agreed!
TV, not cinema.
I’m sure you know of Roy Keane If not have a look at his career and post career life.
@@annlee6102 still the best in all of cinema

Yes exactly this!
And then Keeley looks at him as if she just realized just how much he loves her...
I second that.
Not thats any of my business
That’s my favorite too!!!!
The episode that turns into a romantic comedy as Roy chooses to be a coach is the best of the series and proved that this show was genius.
Roy running from the BBC to the stadium set to "She's A Rainbow" is legitimately my favorite moment of the entire series.
Roy Kent just gruffly saying “Nooo” and walking away is fucking everything
and evryfvckingwhere!!
"It's a lovely novel. It's the story of a young girls struggle with the burden of leadership. She journeys thorough space."

Trash can and all

“9 year olds can’t do headers... fuckin brain development.” 😂😂😂
The yoga story is wonderful. Truly gets the core of Roy without digging to deep.

"don't you dare settle for fine." is maybe the most honest way to look at relationships ever. and jobs, life, anything really.
