Meaningful Media Added to The Stew for August 2024
Welcome to the second episode of my show named The Stew: A meaningful monthly recap of all the media I've consumed in the past month. This month I discuss what Disco Elysium, House of the Dragon, It Ends With Us and Inside Out 2 meant to me!

The Absurdity of a Perfect Day

How The Bear Makes You Care
Переглядів 7692 місяці тому
In preparation for season 3 of The Bear, I thought I would lend my video essay skills to showcase the way that The Bear teaches us how to care. By showing both consequences and rewards of care or lack of care, the Bear is such an amazing show and I am so excited to see season 3! My life has been pretty hectic with our new puppy so watching The Bear in time for season 3 has only reminded me of m...
Animal Well is a Descent into Hell | A Video Essay

I never expected Animal Well to be a horror game, but I clearly missed all the signs. Though I had a horrific experience with the game, I also had a blast that reinstilled a childlike wonder and desire for discovering secrets and making positive changes. How did you all enjoy the game and what were your favorite secrets? Hope you all enjoyed this short video and hopefully it fills you with opti...
I am Afraid of Being Forgotten | Firewatch Video Essay

Playing Firewatch for the first time this year made me reflect on memory in a way I had not done before. After finishing the game, I am afraid of forgetting everything and of being forgotten. I hope this video resonates with you and I would love to hear if you had similar feelings when playing. I would also love to hear your experience or "version" of the game. It's always so interesting to hea...

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy this video and format! Abbott Elementary is one of my favorite new shows and it constantly reminds me of the time where I was a tutor. Though it had not started out as my favorite show, it paralleled the way I felt being a tutor and with feeling like an impostor. I hope you all give yourself time and grace, and feel free to join the discord to chat about your th...

I hope you all learn to believe in the little things you achieve every day and feel free to join the discord to talk about Kung Fu Panda 4 when it releases or get some encouragement on the many t...

I think imo was reinforcing healthy masculinity, roy kent was a good example, when he stuck up for nate, being a role model for his niece and listening to Jamie through his troubles and didn't judge him when he broke down.

thank you for this, it opened something inside of me. This winner mentality sucks. My grandfather would always compare me and my brother. My brother would compare me and him. I was the winner to them. I never wanted there to be a distinction, I never wanted to be seen as better but both of us as equal. He died while I was angry at him for him seeing me as more achieved than my brother, while everyone has their own story and tribulations, these comparisons rarely help, everyone is on their own path- who even knows if my brother gets more successful than me in 5 or 10 or 20 years? Nobody is better than anyone, we are all just being dealt different hands and we have to work with what we have, that's all there is.

The blanket metaphor was so impactful. I listened to it at least five times. You’re a brilliant writer and this is a fantastic take on an even greater show. I’m going to rewatch Ted lasso for the third time and I’ll have a new perspective on it. Thank you for creating and sharing this masterpiece of a video.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first episode of The Stew. Please let me know what you think about the format and the content. Video essays will still be releasing, and this will be a casual way for me to discuss media that recently meant a lot to me. This series will also be labeled a podcast on UA-cam. That means via the UA-cam Music App, you can listen to the audio or watch the video there (even in the background no fees added [i think]) Check it out there too Bonus content will be released on Patreon and if you'd like to share your thoughts, check the Patreon and Discord channels! Next month I'll most likely talk about House of the Dragon season 2, The Boys season 4, and Disco Elysium (if I can finish it). See you all then!

I've yet to watch the video, but I've been on a huuuuge Outer Wilds hyperfixation lately and hearing the theme in the background of the intro, even though it was super quiet, threw me super hard. Had to go listen to the Outer Wilds theme a few times before coming back.

SableStew, could you tell me if the following is plagiarism ? Let's say a like a small strategy game with quite simple mechanics. What if I create a similar game with different characters (different stats health/strength and different abilities), in order to have more possible strategies with this gameplay that I like. And the UI would be entirely different, but there would still be the same game phase, an amount of money to buy improvement and a similar way to make character evolve.

    • @sablestew
      @sablestew Місяць тому

Hey! So I'm absolutely not an expert on plagiarism, but from your example it seems not likely to be plagiarism. As long as the art, characters, and general ideas for the game are unique to the creator then having similar gameplay elements or mechanics would not be seen as plagiarism. For example look at Slay the Spire vs Steamworld Quest. Two games with similar mechanics for combat but entirely different games that utilize them

I didnt realize before that the bean actually just has his home. So at the beginning are we seeing it be born? Or is that not its house? It simply found the key to its predecessor's house? Or was it just taking a nap in that flower? Is each run the same creature or is it a new one? Does it die when it dies or does the phone actually revive it? I suppose the skulls in that one room have to come from somewhere... What if the phone is meant to tell the next bean how to get to the point that they are at, when chased by the dog they dont have enough time to tell the next one how to get through everything.

Coming in 2nd was winning. They started the season off having only just bounced back from relegation. Losing half their matches in the season to making it to the final. The journey was better than the results. It didn't need a super happy ending.

interesting interpretation of the game. If I had to describe it as horror, I would say it's soft horror, as nothing in the game necessarily is there to scare you, but become scary because of what it means for you. The kangaroos are just kangaroos, chameleon just a lizard, and they're really just minding their own business, but it is because you are the prey that they are so threatening. I found the game more atmospheric and thrilling than horrifying, but that is just my experience

If you scan the Animal Well title as a barcode, you get: 44446666 (EAN: 8) I'm interpreting this as infinite Hell. I discovered this just tonight after thinking the title probably even has a secret, and yes, it does appear so. 4 is associated with death in Japan; it is a cursed number just as 666 is here. And region codes, or EAN numbers can sometimes be seen printed sideways, which may appear as an infinity symbol. I really don't think it's a coincidence
