I FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKIG FOR! THANK YOU!! Your instructions are so clear and this beanie is going to be perfect for my husband when he gets out for a walk with his dogs!! Awesome!!
This is awesome 😎 I really dislike crocheting 🧶 hats with brims, from the bottom up. But your pattern solves that problem for me!!! It’s beautifully “clean cut” for a men’s hat. Thank you a bunch!
Took some experimenting. To use regular medium worsted acrylic and get get proper 22 inch band start with 19" inch chain and I used 4mm hook because I didn't have a 4.25mm. Works to perfect 22" hat!
Thank you as my first row ended up so loooooong with a 22 inch chain! I’m determined to have another go though so will try 19”. I’m also using 4mm hook.
Thanks for you tuttorial!! It´s my first beanie ever, I learned how to crochet very recently, and now I´m about to finish your beanie!! Thanks again, super well explaines.
Awesome hat pattern. It is really quick and looks great. I ran out of yarn so I made an ear warmer. So far a hat and an ear warmer. On to your reindeer towel. Thanks for sharing‼️
I just followed your pattern... although with a different stitch because I just learned a new one and I couldn't help it, I just really wanted to try it out 😁... and it worked beautifully, thank you for this. 😊
I always come back to this pattern for the men in my life! My husband and dad each have hats with two strands of yarn, and now im working on just single strand versions for when its not as cold cause they love them ❤❤ thanks for the pattern!!
Your awesome i made a hat and it turned out perfect. And let me tell ya ive been crocheting for a few months now trying to follow videos and make things and yours is my top follow for sure I understood everything 🥰🤩
This is a great stitch for a guy. So few options for guys, but this one does look great. I tried it with a heavier yarn and a single strand but it didn't work well. I'm going to try it with two smaller yarns together like you've done here to see how comes out.
Thank you! Let me know how it works out. The yarn does make a difference. I found that the yarn I used in the video worked out great because it really brought out the stitch, possibly due to a combination between the thickness and smoothness of the thread. It’s also super soft and easy maintenance. My husband liked it, at least. 🙂
I love the pattern. It actually makes the ends perfect and all straight. Eady to follow as well. Though, it would have been so awesome if you use a color that is easy to see. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your work.
Thank you! I used your pattern for my round-alpine-stitch beanie brim. I didn't like how a regular ribbed single looked, it was an odd transition with that stitch and the yarn I have! But this looks sooo much better and this is only the second(ish) thing I have ever crocheted (successfully) so I'm super proud of it working out. Thank you so much for having an easy to follow video! My kid loves his beanie!
Okay so I understand that you are talking in measurements in the video (which is actually very helpful and I thank you for that), but have you ever thought about also telling us how many chains you have in total for the starting chain? And then also letting us know how many stitch should be in each row? I was just wondering is all ☺️ it just makes it easier for us who don’t want to break out a bulky tape measure from the tool box hahahahaha!!!
I have thought about it, but decided to go with measurements because of the types of questions I usually get. The first one is always about the yarn, (can they use a different size/brand/etc). And the second, being requests for measurements (for adults, or kids, etc). So, in the end. I opted for just sharing measurements instead as it makes it easier for folks to adjust the pattern to whatever they need it to be. It also helps free up my time to create more patterns, instead of having to makes each pattern in every different size and make adjustments for the different yarns sizes and pattern sizes, then typing it all out on the pattern. Also, I’m not sponsored by any yarn company, so I have to buy my own supplies, and having to make that many samples adds significant yarn cost to producing content. 🤷🏻♀️ That was a much longer response than you probably wanted, I’m sorry 😐 🙊
Amazing hat and great tutorial. Very easy to follow. It works up quickly, I’m almost done with my hat. I’m using a thicker yarn and still looking great. Thanks! 😊🧶
Thanks! You can use a heavier yarn, no problem. 🤔 depends on what look/feel you want. If you’re going for warm, a bit fuzzy and a soft worn feel, then super saver (red heart yarn) is surprisingly good even though it’s a value yarn. It softens up a lot when you wash it. You may need to play around with the hook size as there is a little spacing between the stitching. For a similar sheen to the hat I made, simply soft by Caron yarn will work. It will get a little fuzzy after a first wash though. For a cleaner look, use a cotton blend. This one will make the spacing between the stitches more noticeable though.
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I just finished a scarlet & grey version of this that turned out amazing!! And even better, I love how warm this hat is!!!
I can’t seem to find the different measurements for this hat - you mentioned they would be in the comments , I’m making it for my 10 yr old son. Thank you! Beautiful pattern 😊
Hi! You can find the sizing chart in the video description, as well as on the pattern. I’ll link the blog post below. Thank you! 😊 modebespoke.com/alternating-posts-hat/
I was excited to try this but it was a little hard to follow at times as I am a beg inner. Do you have a more detailed and closer up view video of this hat?
Hey Cari! You have amazing timing! I uploaded a new version of this video that is slower and zoomed just this morning! Hope it helps :) Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/8umRaJaHV9E/v-deo.html Thank you for watching and for commenting!
I'm doing this beanie right now. It will take a lot of time but It's going to be worth it. I will try to add some other colors there as well but I'm not really sure how to do it. Guess I'll just try it out :) And thanks for the tutorial!
Hi! I know I filmed a color change in the updated version of this beanie’s tutorial. I’ll put the link below. If you’re comfortable with the stitch, just fast forward a bit and you’ll see me make a color change :) Let me know if that helps! ua-cam.com/video/8umRaJaHV9E/v-deo.html
You know I started making some of my hats this way and I love it.....but sometimes I get my measurements wrong. Height and width but REALLY LOVE THIS HAT.🥰🥰🥰🥰. I'm going to try it not using the POST we don't get along for some reason. The HAT is nice thanks.
Not sure of measurements is there a written pattern with that 8nfo on it...I am very grateful I'm a beginner so I can't figure it out would .Ike to. Are in the round tytytytt
Thank you! No, the blog is still around. I updated it, and may have missed updating this like. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! I’ll post the updated link below. Do you?? Spokane is beautiful! I loved living there. I’ve been in FL for two years now, but a piece of my heart still lives in Spokane. modebespoke.com/alternating-posts-hat/
@@ModeBespoke Thanks for replying! Sorry you are not here anymore... I have never lived anywhere else, so am rather attached to the area! I will try the pattern soon, as I discovered that I only have 1 skein of that yarn, and will have to pick up another!
Hi, just came across this video and absolutely love the easy to follow simple tutorial. Do you happen to have a scarf pattern that matches this beanie? I have 2 sons, 1 son in law, and 3 grandsons, all whom love to wear beanies. I thought these would make a wonderful gift for their stocking. 🥰😉
Hi, Melody! Thank you so much! 😊 I do! Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/1wxmezUH94c/v-deo.html I used a thicker yarn for the scarf tutorial, which will work up much quicker than using the Woolike yarn I used for this hat tutorial. With that said, the Woolike yarn makes for a softer and warmer scarf, but the downside is that a full-sized scarf takes much longer to make. However, both the scarf and the hat can be made using any yarn, so that opens up your options 😁🧶 Happy crocheting!
Oh no!!! I’m sure it still looks great! Yeah, I’ve learned that the yarn makes the project. The trick is to try to figure out which yarn will work best with what project. I still have to make small swatches before committing to a specific yarn. 🤷🏻♀️
@@ModeBespoke well maybe the top of the hat Will get a little bit looser with wearing , Its a christmas gift for dad So anyway im sure He Will be glad im gifting him with handmade gift
It’s a thoughtful gift that you put loads of work and effort into, I bet he’ll love it! Have you washed it yet? It’ll usually soften up the yarn quite a bit.
@@ModeBespoke also do you think i could do this Beanie with thicker yarn too? Still have time to make another Beanie for my mum's husband And i have here nice Gray but thicker type of yarn (for Hook about 5.5-6)
Hey Emily! Yes, that will work :) There’s an updated version of this tutorial, I’ll link it below. I use a thicker yarn for it, but the pattern is the same and you can use whatever yarn/hook combo you want. ua-cam.com/video/1Wvg_WcyU7I/v-deo.html
Welcome to the awesome world of crochet! You use one thread of each skein, so you are crocheting with two threads at a time. Alternatively, you can use a #3 DK yarn and get a similar result (and only have to use one thread of yarn, instead of 2) . If you use a yarn with a bit of a sheen, it’ll look very similar. Let me know if you have any other questions :) I’m happy to help!
Good question! You know I haven’t tried it in years (sorry, this pattern is a few years old 😅), but I was unable to find a good way to maintain the look of the stitch when increasing in the round. I want to say someone had commented about a way to do this, but I can’t recall for certain.
Did you block or some step in between when you were fpbpdc and then showed the large rectangle? I can make the exact same thing as when you're showing the small sample but not the tightly looking large what step am I missing?
I didn’t block. 🤔 I’m not sure what you mean by “tightly looking large”. Would you happen to have a photo you can email me? I might be able to help if I can get a look at it. Atenas@modebespoke.com
I wanted to learn to crochet a hat for my grandson but I am so confused. This says to use a size 1 yarn. The yarn I bought says size 4. Size one must be very thin , am I wrong about the number or do I need to go find size one yarn. Would it be warm for him while outside in the winter? Sorry if my questions are dumb😁
Your questions are not dumb, I’m glad you asked 😊 I used 2 threads of size 1 yarn, and yes, it is quite thin. You can, however, use any size yarn you want. Use the recommended hook size on your yarn label, and that’s it. If you find the space between the stitches is bigger than what you want, use a smaller hook. As for it being warm, it is. I would wear mine when I used to go snowboarding and when I lived in WA.
Hi there, I am a total beginner at crochet, and am having trouble gauging the yarn. Can i use a chunky wool, or maybe about an 8pl?? I have only ever knitted, but am busting to learn to crochet. This pattern looks lovely, but i need help to start. Thank you so much
Hi! You can use any yarn weight you want, just swatch out a small sample to test your hook size and see what your fabric will look like. Once you’ve determined what hook you will use, you are ready to start! When you swatch, I find it helps to make a 4” (10 cm) length chain. Be sure to count your stitches! This stitch tends to expand from the original chain length, so you’ll need to adjust for that.
I can't seem to get the post stitches to look close like yours. They just do not look like little blocks. It didnt work out with the yarn I had. I went ahead and purchased the woollike loops and threads yarn. Should turn out better. 😉Also I have a customer who wants this beanie with no brim. What do u suggest I do to make it have a finished look. Maybe for the edge?
Give it a try with the Woolike yarn and let me know how it works out. I find that the yarn you use makes a huge difference in the end product. The woolike yarn just made much nicer hats, and you could see the detail in the stitching much more easily than with other yarns. Are you using a solid color, or two+ colors for the hat? If you're using two colors, I'd make some rows in the secondary color to create more of an"edge" look. That way I wouldn't need to worry about the brim, nor would I have to use a different stitch and could maintain the same level of stretch throughout. So maybe on the fourth row from the bottom, I'd crochet a row of the secondary color, then make a row of the primary color, then finish the last two rows in the secondary color. Or some variation of that pattern. If you still have trouble with the posts looking like mine, let me know. I can set up a video call for us and we can go over the stitch if we need to :)
Mode Bespoke hi there!! I've picked up my yarn was so excited with woolike I started on the hat. You are Right! The yarn makes a huge difference! It's my first time using size 1 yarn and first time doubling up, and so far it seems to be okay. I'm only few rows in so I'm hoping as I get further along the D.C.posts will start looking like yours. It seems to be getting closer tog. on 3rd row up. I hope to get that woven look right! For the hat, the request is, it's to be all black. So I'm not sure what to do for an edge since I can't add color change into it. 🤔 what other options? I can't thank u enough for offering to help me on video call😁. I'll keep working and see If it starts to turn out. I've been keeping my tension pretty normal to loose. Is that right? Just so it fills in. And I've tried not to pull up too high on the D.C. I think it'll gap.
Yay! It’s so soft, right? I love that yarn! Give it a couple of rows, and if you still feel the gap between stitches is too big, try working with a smaller hook. You will have to make more chains to make the same length, but it should be a tighter stitch. I think 🤔 I used a G hook? So maybe try an F. So plain black and no brim, 🤔 let me think about it today and I’ll see what options I can send you in the evening.
I finally finished this beanie! Lol took longer than expected, but so..worth the time because it turned out beautifully. It was so soft and had such a nice stretch to it!!👀❤🙌🙌😁
I made two beanies with these measurements and they both came out too big. I used two different sized hooks; a 5mm and a 5.5mm with lion brand pound of love yarn. And when I say too big, I mean ridiculously too big. 😂 I measured my head with a tape measure and it indeed, is 22 inches around for an adult large, so I’m not really understanding why the size is SO off. For anyone having trouble with this, what I decided to do was make it 21” long, and 8 inches high, including the brim. The pattern itself is absolutely lovely and the beanies were beautiful. It was just embarrassing having gifted one of them and the recipient put it on and he was drowning in it; everyone laughed and it made me look like I don’t know what I’m doing. 😬 My advice is to make it smaller than you think it needs to be, because it will stretch out a little bit, anyway. :)
Measure as you go, hun. Once you crochet a few rows, measure your head, then test that measurement against the hat. Adjust as needed, even if it means frogging and re-adjusting your initial chain count. If you’re making it for an adult, your head measurement will do as there is not a huge variance in size and there is some stretch to the fabric. In general, whether you crochet, knit, or sew, always measure, measure, measure! Having the recipient’s measurements always helps, but if it’s a gift, there is a plethora of sizing charts online where you can find general measurements for various age groups and pattern types. You don’t need to use mine, I’m human and also miss the mark at times, so look up a few charts and compare the sizes.
Beatutiful pattern. Excatly what I was looking for. Question, why didnt you stsrt the beanie at the top, with a chain circle or magic circle? Im a beginner.
Thank you! I started at the brim so folks could try on the hat and make sure it fit before spending even more time working on it. I could have started at the top, with a magic circle like you suggested, but I honestly didn’t even think of it. 🤷🏻♀️
Hello! Just updating you about the baby sweater pattern you’d requested a few months back. The tutorial and pattern will post this Thursday, August 27. 😉 You can see photos of the sweater on my Instagram page (@mode.bespoke).
Really enjoy your videos. What do I do if i chain and crochet too many stiches and rows -about 1.5" too large and how the hat will be too large. I am half way through Also can I add a cuff to this hat? Please help
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoy them! Are you going for a fitted beanie, or would you be ok with a slouchy beanie? Because if you are ok with slouchy beanie, you can keep crocheting like you are at the moment, then stop about about the 7-8 inch mark for length. Make a wide brim (is that what you are referring to as a “cuff”?). At least wide enough to fit comfortably and still snug enough to keep you hat on. Towards the end of the video, I show you how to make a brim. Are you comfortable making decreases? I’d make a few while working on the first row of DCs of the brim to make it fit more snugly. I hope that made sense, if it doesn’t let me know and I’ll try to explain it differently.
@@ModeBespoke So glad you wrote back so soon unfortunately my 28 yr old son likes a fitted hat with a cuff - a folder over cuff. is that the same as a brim? no slouch! I've never made decreases before. this is my first hat ah!! his birthday is next week. its coming out so beautifully and Ive invested too many hours to rip it out (and the yarn got caught so many times bc is has a slight fuzziness to it). What should i do? I really wanted to finish it off today. He will be here tonight but i wanted to surprise him - but i wont. his wife told me 22" I'm really upset. thank you so much. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
ok so i've watched how to decrease fpdc and bpdc when they are all the same, but since your pattern is alternating 1 and 1, how can I decrease? i am really in a dilemma. help !
I hope I got back to you in time!! I didn’t see your message until today! Yes, you can just make the brim, or cuff as thick as you want just make sure to make the hat as long as you need it to be first, then add the cuff so he can fold it over and not lose length. If you’re making a folding cuff, then you don’t need to decrease at all. That fold will make the hat more snug (I fold the cuff on my kid’s oversized beanie to make it fit tighter). Also, adjust the size just a little when you sew it closed. Instead of crocheting (or sewing) along the very edge, just crochet further in (maybe about a 1/4 inch or even a little more, from the edge ) and that will help “shrink” the hat a little.
@@ModeBespoke the hat was too wide. I had decreased the FPDC and BPDC through tutorials around the brim. that worked fine but the bulk of the hat was too large i had to take it in at the seam. it's not a beanie but more of a winter chunky hat and I added a pom it looks really wonderful. I will gift it to my son on Sunday. i am so enjoying crocheting and knitting. Thanks for making it lovable
Danielle Larson because I like the texture and drape of this particular yarn. It has a heavier drape than some of the thicker yarns, but doesn’t make too bulky a hat.
Its really helpful for me i m beignner and i makeing this beanie for my hubby for 6th anniversary thanks again and pls upload new video on female cardigan
I'm a bit confused with the length of the yarn needed. How many meters/yards are needed for 4ply or DK yarn? You use two skeins of size one doubled up with 678 yards but also say it's enough for two hats. Does it mean you only need half of that for one hat?
Yes, you only need half of that to complete the hat. It is much easier to work with two skeins and use one thread of each, than it is to use a center and side pull on one skein and double up the yarn that way (it becomes a terrible tangled mess). So hence why I suggest using two skeins I stead of just one. I probably could have done a better job explaining it, but it was the best I could come up with at the time. As far as how much yardage you’ll need for a worsted or DK yarn, that depends on the size hat you are crocheting. For an adult hat, you can use half of that 678 and you should have enough. I prefer to err on the side of caution and get an extra skein, just in case. You can always use any remaining yarn to make a matching short scarf. Happy crocheting!
I normally cinch it, and don’t decrease. There was a viewer who decreased and wrote down what she did. Let me see if I can locate her comment and post it so you can read how she did it.
Ok. So Shawna Severinski wrote: “FPDC decrease (use only FP) go into FP pull through first two loops (skip BP) then into FPDC pull through first two then through loops left on hook”
Hello! I so love love love the look of this beanie. But the yarn I want to use is bigger. 142 grams to your 100 grams. Could you coach me on how to convert to a bigger yarn? thank you so much!
Hi! Thank you! I just released a tutorial for a hat pattern, and I cover how to resize a hat in the first 5 minutes. The stitch is different (it’s a Tunisian crochet hat), but the method is the same. Just make your sample using the yarn and hook you want to use for your hat, and use the alternating posts stitch (not the brim stitch). Hope this helps! A Edit: I never posted the link 🤦🏽♀️ Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/6D8xnEoxm6Y/v-deo.html
Thank you! 🤔 I’d go with the 4 so the stitches are a little tighter together (and the hat is a little warmer). But, you can always make a small swatch and see which one you like better. 🤷🏻♀️ When I’m trying to pick a hook, I usually make a small swatch about 15-20 stitches across, and a good maybe 10 rows up, with each hook. I don’t cut the yarn, so I can use it for my project once I pick a hook. I leave a few inches of yarn after my first swatch and immediately start with the second. Once I decide on a hook, I frog the swatch, roll up my yarn, and start working. Happy crocheting!
Greetings! Two years ago I made your hat for my grandson who is in the Air Force. He loved it and just texted me that he needs 4 hats for his buddies. Oh no, oh no! I am slammed re other Christmas deadlines, but am going to break away and try to get them all made in 4 days for him. I only made it once and don't remember a thing so will have to follow your tutorial explicitly! QUESTION: How do I add a contrasting color stripe x2 in the body of the hat and the color stripes line up and not be a row off? Or would it be easier to just choose your other tutorial that has it, like the pretty blue tweed/tan one? (BTW - You have been an invaluable source of instruction and guidance to me having picked up crocheting after a 50-year absence; I'm 75+. P.S. After the holidays, I'm going to watch all your Tunisian crochet tutorials so I can learn it and make all the gorgeous patterns on your channel.
You can do it, I believe in you! I’m glad you’ve found them useful 😊 Thank you so much for the kind words! That second tutorial you mentioned will show you how to do a color switch, but where you place the different colored stripes them is entirely up to you. To change colors: on the last DC of the row: Yarn over and insert you hook through the stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (so you’ll have 3 on the hook at this point), yarn over and pull through two. *this is where the new color comes in** Yarn over in the new color and pull through the two remaining loops on your hook. Remember to leave long tail ends you can easily weave in once you finish the hat. I found that one row in a different color yarn is eye catching (if you just want a little contrast), but two rows makes the stripe pop. But then again, that’s a preference thing 🤷🏻♀️ Sadly, I didn’t write down the row/stripe counts, or I’d have sent them to you. 😬 Hope it goes well!! You’ve got this!!
Hey Suzanne, Thanks! I will try! I hadn’t found a way to maintain the look of the stitch with any decrease method I tried. I’ll see if I can find a way to make it work and post it. Once I have something, I’ll let you know 🙂
Mode Bespoke no pressure, the pattern is awesome, someone always wants more, please don’t try to cover everything, this hat is gorgeous as is! Just make it as designed. I appreciate the hard work.
@@ModeBespoke I think I figured that out actually. FPDC decrease (use only FP) go into FP pull through first 2 loops, (skip BP) then into FPDC pull through first 2 then through loops left on hook. Kept pattern and allowed derease
I started with a 21 inch chain and now my hat is 24 inches!!! Should I have stretched the chain to make 21 inches instead of measuring the chain as is?
Is it too loose a fit? How far into the hat are you? If you are still at the brim, you could make a much wider brim (double the width), that folds over itself. It’d keep your ears warmer and make for a comfy winter beanie, especially if you are using the fine yarn. Maybe. The 21” is a guide, and we all crochet a little differently. It could just be that I crochet with a tighter tension, which would make my stitches tighter, and closer together. If nothing else, at least now you have a personal measurement guide, and you’ll know that you need to make a smaller chain to hit the 21”. But don’t get discouraged 🙂an adult hat generally measures between 21-23”, so you’re close!
Yes, you can. Make an initial chain in odd numbers. Join the ends of your chain, and then work your row of double crochets. Join the row with a slip stitch. Chain two, and begin working the alternating posts patter. Always join your rows with a slip stitch, and chain two to begin your next row. 😉
You can use only one skein, but use both ends so you have two threads to work with. Alternatively, you can use a DK yarn and use a single thread. You can make one hat per skein (678 yds, fingering yarn). So, two hats total, if you use the 2 skein simultaneously, method.
It’s a fingering yarn called Woolike. If you live in the US you can find it at Michaels stores. Specs: Size 1, fingering 85% acrylic, 15% nylon 678 yds / 3.5 oz 620 m / 100 g
🤔 you know, I use an I hook often, but can’t think of a specific video in which I use one. I normally use a thicker medium yarn (like the super saver yarn) when I use that hook. You can use it for most of my patterns, just switch your yarn. And yes, you can definitely crochet this in the round. 🙂
I am a beginner crocheter and I say beginner I mean almost no experience. I have a couple of questions about this hat which I really want to try and do. Why are you using two pieces of yarn and how are you both pieces to come off the skein with no issues? How would I turn this into a slouchy hat?
Hello! I am using two pieces of yarn because the yarn I am using is very, very thin. If I use two threads, I achieve the thickness I want :). You can use a thicker yarn if you prefer. Any warn will work, really. I’m using two skeins simultaneously. You can use just one skein, but you risk the yarn getting tangled and being more trouble than it’s worth. If you do use two skeins, you can put a skein in a bowl (one skein per bowl) and that will help keep them from tangling. You can also pull from the middle of the skein. This last one is easier for some yarns more than others. You just dig your fingers into the middle of the skein and pull some yarn out, then find the end of the thread. For a slouchy hat, add an inch or two to the circumference. Then make the hat taller, so crochet a height of a min of 10 inches before you make the brim. Go for about 12 inches for a super slouchy beanie, then make about a 2 inch brim. Hope it helps! 😃
@@ModeBespoke Thank you so much!!!! I have been trying to do a slouchy hat for a while now but I haven't been able to understand what other youtubers were doing. When I watched yours I wasn't confused with the pattern at all and I don't have to round stitch which has been something I struggle with understanding. Thank you so much for the awesome video and answering my questions!!!
@@ModeBespoke no no. No confusion. Except on my end. I’m VERY new at crocheting. I love it! But I’m still trying to get use to all of the stitches and trying to get my hands and brain to meet in the middle. I can’t wait to try this again. I’m finishing up a scarf.
I apologize for the delay in responding! You can use a single thread. To make a similar yarn weight, you can substitute the two threads with one; use a DK, lightweight, or #3 yarn. (It’s three different names for the same yarn weight).
I FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKIG FOR! THANK YOU!! Your instructions are so clear and this beanie is going to be perfect for my husband when he gets out for a walk with his dogs!! Awesome!!

Took some experimenting. To use regular medium worsted acrylic and get get proper 22 inch band start with 19" inch chain and I used 4mm hook because I didn't have a 4.25mm. Works to perfect 22" hat!
Excellent! Good to know! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you as my first row ended up so loooooong with a 22 inch chain! I’m determined to have another go though so will try 19”. I’m also using 4mm hook.

I’m so happy to hear it! 😁 Thank YOU!
I always come back to this pattern for the men in my life! My husband and dad each have hats with two strands of yarn, and now im working on just single strand versions for when its not as cold cause they love them ❤❤ thanks for the pattern!!
So glad y’all like it 😊! Thank YOU, this made my day!
😂 so many of the men in my family have this hat, too!
Your awesome i made a hat and it turned out perfect. And let me tell ya ive been crocheting for a few months now trying to follow videos and make things and yours is my top follow for sure I understood everything 🥰🤩
Thank you so much, Cynthia! That’s so sweet of you to say! 😊
Beautiful pattern for a male beanie! Thanks for sharing!❤️
Thank you for being so precise in your tutorial. I’m very, very new to crocheting. I’ll give this a go, soon.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful easy to learn
Nice pattern..I am very excited making for my son in law..
Thank you! I’m glad you like it 😊 What a thoughtful gift!
Great tutorial. Thanks for taking time to make this video. 🧶💙
That was a much longer response than you probably wanted, I’m sorry 😐 🙊
Excellent tutorial.
Amazing hat and great tutorial. Very easy to follow. It works up quickly, I’m almost done with my hat. I’m using a thicker yarn and still looking great. Thanks! 😊🧶
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for taking the time to comment! :D
Hi, what size yarn and hook did you use?
Thank you for the free tutorial! Happy holidays 💕
Thank you! Happy holidays 😊
Wow, this is sooo beautiful
Thank you for this tutorial its really easy and im also making it for my fathers birthday present 😊
Thanks for this ; I've been looking for a toot using a smaller gauge .
My pleasure!
Thank you for a clear tutorial. I love it
Thank you 😊
I love the pattern. Not crazy about using two skeins at once. I might just use heavy weight yarn? Do you want suggest any yarn? Thanks!
Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that! Those colors sound amazing together, I'll have to try them out!
I have the same yarn. I am trying to knit a scarf with it. Not sure about how it would turn out to be. Trusting the process. 🤞
Amazing, because why would it not turn out that way? Me too! I’m working on a scarf for a friend using this stitch and this yarn, only in black.
Thank you! 😊

I was excited to try this but it was a little hard to follow at times as I am a beg inner. Do you have a more detailed and closer up view video of this hat?
Hey Cari! You have amazing timing! I uploaded a new version of this video that is slower and zoomed just this morning!

Oh! Thanks!! :) I'll check it out :)
You know I started making some of my hats this way and I love it.....but sometimes I get my measurements wrong. Height and width but REALLY LOVE THIS HAT.🥰🥰🥰🥰. I'm going to try it not using the POST we don't get along for some reason. The HAT is nice thanks.

Love this pattern but I have so much yarn at home..can I make this beanie using #4 patons canadiana yarn
Don’t see why not, just use measurements.
@@ModeBespoke thank you so much
Not sure of measurements is there a written pattern with that 8nfo on it...I am very grateful I'm a beginner so I can't figure it out would .Ike to. Are in the round tytytytt
LOVE this stitch! I do have some of this yarn in my stash. Is your blog gone? Oh! I live in Spokane too!

@@ModeBespoke Thanks for replying! Sorry you are not here anymore... I have never lived anywhere else, so am rather attached to the area! I will try the pattern soon, as I discovered that I only have 1 skein of that yarn, and will have to pick up another!

You’re so kind, thank you 😊
I love you ! Thank you so much 🙏🌹
Thank you so much,,is so beautiful 👏👏👏👍👍🙋♀️🙋♀️❤❤❤ .

😊 I do! Here is the link:
ua-cam.com/video/1wxmezUH94c/v-deo.html
I used a thicker yarn for the scarf tutorial, which will work up much quicker than using the Woolike yarn I used for this hat tutorial. With that said, the Woolike yarn makes for a softer and warmer scarf, but the downside is that a full-sized scarf takes much longer to make. However, both the scarf and the hat can be made using any yarn, so that opens up your options 😁🧶
Happy crocheting!
Love this beanie!thank you for the tutorial!😍
I really liked the way you did your pattern for the brim!! Love it!
Thank you!! 😊
Yours look better 😅mine has very stiff weird looking top even tho i did it correcntly. I need to use different yarn next time
@@ModeBespoke i didnt , how Is it Done, should i just soak it in water for a while ?
@@ModeBespoke also do you think i could do this Beanie with thicker yarn too? Still have time to make another Beanie for my mum's husband And i have here nice Gray but thicker type of yarn (for Hook about 5.5-6)
Hello! I'm fairly new to crocheting. I have lion brand size medium 4. Would that work for this too? Or should I get a smaller size? Thank you!
Hey Emily! Yes, that will work :)
There’s an updated version of this tutorial, I’ll link it below. I use a thicker yarn for it, but the pattern is the same and you can use whatever yarn/hook combo you want.
ua-cam.com/video/1Wvg_WcyU7I/v-deo.html
I’m new to crocheting. What do you mean by using both of your skeins simultaneously?
Welcome to the awesome world of crochet!
You use one thread of each skein, so you are crocheting with two threads at a time. Alternatively, you can use a #3 DK yarn and get a similar result (and only have to use one thread of yarn, instead of 2) . If you use a yarn with a bit of a sheen, it’ll look very similar.
Let me know if you have any other questions :) I’m happy to help!
I have question. Is it possible to do this pattern in round from top to bottom? 🤔🤔
Good question! You know I haven’t tried it in years (sorry, this pattern is a few years old 😅), but I was unable to find a good way to maintain the look of the stitch when increasing in the round.
I want to say someone had commented about a way to do this, but I can’t recall for certain.
@@ModeBespoke ahh thanks for responding my question 😁😁😁
Thank you so much for this wonderful pattern 💜💜
Asking for Adult men pattern size?
There is a sizing chart available in the blog, and in the description of the video. 😊
I love this pattern and would like to know if it could be make from the top down? If so could you do a video on how to start it.
Thank you! I haven’t tried it yet. I’ve got a few projects going on at the moment, but as soon as I get a chance to, I’ll work on that video 😊

Very nice, ty
I wanted to learn to crochet a hat for my grandson but I am so confused. This says to use a size 1 yarn. The yarn I bought says size 4. Size one must be very thin , am I wrong about the number or do I need to go find size one yarn. Would it be warm for him while outside in the winter? Sorry if my questions are dumb😁
Your questions are not dumb, I’m glad you asked 😊
I used 2 threads of size 1 yarn, and yes, it is quite thin. You can, however, use any size yarn you want. Use the recommended hook size on your yarn label, and that’s it. If you find the space between the stitches is bigger than what you want, use a smaller hook.
As for it being warm, it is. I would wear mine when I used to go snowboarding and when I lived in WA.
@@ModeBespoke Thankyou!
Great instructions for this fun project
Thank you!
Thank you so much so easy to follow
Thank you!
Mode Bespoke it's turning out super nice!😉 just taking time with it. Well worth it! 😍
I finally finished this beanie! Lol took longer than expected, but so..worth the time because it turned out beautifully. It was so soft and had such a nice stretch to it!!👀❤🙌🙌😁
Hi! Instead of 2 strands would I be able to make this with a 5 weight yarn?
Yes, you can use any size yarn you want :)
I love the look of this stitch. Thank you 😍 Do you have any pattern for baby sweater with this stitch. Would like to make one with woollike yarn!!

Hello! Just updating you about the baby sweater pattern you’d requested a few months back. The tutorial and pattern will post this Thursday, August 27. 😉 You can see photos of the sweater on my Instagram page (@mode.bespoke).
Thank you for the tutorial, I am doing the beanie right now and it’s looking really good. Looking forward to new videos👍❤️
Thank you, Daniela! 😊
I love this pattern. Can I use regular 4 ply yarn?
Thank you!
You can use any yarn you prefer. Just make sure to adjust your hook size to match the yarn size you choose.
Mode Bespoke Why did you use 2 of the smaller ply yarn instead of one of the larger?
Danielle Larson because I like the texture and drape of this particular yarn. It has a heavier drape than some of the thicker yarns, but doesn’t make too bulky a hat.
Its really helpful for me i m beignner and i makeing this beanie for my hubby for 6th anniversary thanks again and pls upload new video on female cardigan
I’ll add it to the list 😊
Hi I'm just wondering what ply this yarn is
2
Does anyone know if this is the updated version. I can't find a link on my phone for an updated version?
Updated version: ua-cam.com/video/1Wvg_WcyU7I/v-deo.html
The link is also available in the video description. :)
I love this pattern very easy to make thank you for sharing!
Thank you! 🙏🏼 😊
I have question I made 7 row stitches of the border instead !the pattern is nice 👍 I don’t know I can loose stitches when I get to the top !
Are you trying to decrease the top (instead of cinching)?
Mode Bespoke yes ,I tried to decrease but the Stu he’s don’t line up !therefore I guess I have to cinch it !!!
@@ModeBespoke yes, but the stiches wont line up so my only choice is to cinching them so it is going to bunch ups though.
I normally cinch it, and don’t decrease. There was a viewer who decreased and wrote down what she did. Let me see if I can locate her comment and post it so you can read how she did it.
Ok. So Shawna Severinski wrote:
“FPDC decrease (use only FP) go into FP pull through first two loops (skip BP) then into FPDC pull through first two then through loops left on hook”

Edit: I never posted the link 🤦🏽♀️ Here it is:
ua-cam.com/video/6D8xnEoxm6Y/v-deo.html
Where do I look for the info you say we can look at
In the description box below the video. You’ll find the links in there.
Love the design! Question , i only have a 4.5 and 4 mm hook. Which do i use instead?🙈
Thank you! 🤔 I’d go with the 4 so the stitches are a little tighter together (and the hat is a little warmer).
But, you can always make a small swatch and see which one you like better. 🤷🏻♀️
When I’m trying to pick a hook, I usually make a small swatch about 15-20 stitches across, and a good maybe 10 rows up, with each hook. I don’t cut the yarn, so I can use it for my project once I pick a hook. I leave a few inches of yarn after my first swatch and immediately start with the second. Once I decide on a hook, I frog the swatch, roll up my yarn, and start working.
Happy crocheting!
I see😊 thank you!❤
To change colors: on the last DC of the row:
Yarn over and insert you hook through the stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (so you’ll have 3 on the hook at this point), yarn over and pull through two.
*this is where the new color comes in**
Yarn over in the new color and pull through the two remaining loops on your hook.
Remember to leave long tail ends you can easily weave in once you finish the hat.
I found that one row in a different color yarn is eye catching (if you just want a little contrast), but two rows makes the stripe pop. But then again, that’s a preference thing 🤷🏻♀️
Sadly, I didn’t write down the row/stripe counts, or I’d have sent them to you. 😬
Hope it goes well!! You’ve got this!!
Great job! Could you do a short video on how to decrease the crown instead of cinching it? Thanks awesomeness
Hey Suzanne,
Thanks!
Thank you!
@@ModeBespoke I think I figured that out actually. FPDC decrease (use only FP) go into FP pull through first 2 loops, (skip BP) then into FPDC pull through first 2 then through loops left on hook. Kept pattern and allowed derease
Thank you Shawna! This is wonderful!! I get this question all the time! I’ll refer everyone to your comment 😁 thank you so much!!
Can you crochet the hat in the round?
Yes, you can. Make an initial chain in odd numbers. Join the ends of your chain, and then work your row of double crochets. Join the row with a slip stitch. Chain two, and begin working the alternating posts patter. Always join your rows with a slip stitch, and chain two to begin your next row. 😉
@@ModeBespoke Thank you for this.
Thanks .i like your video and the instructions. Can you pls show us how to crotchet in rounds with the same pattern
Thanks! Sure! I’ve got the next few tutorials lined up, so you won’t see it for a while, but I’ll work on it :)
Will this work with #4 yarn?
Yup. Just make sure to adjust the stitch count on the chain to meet the length of the circumference you need.
Is it possible to use one strand of double knit yarn instead of the two strands?
Yes! You can use any yarn weight you want. If you use anything from a fingering yarn to a DK, you can even use the same hook size.
@@ModeBespoke Thank you so much for the reply. My hubby will be so happy when I give him this beanie. Super cold in SA at the moment!
Beautiful work. Where did you get the label.
Thank you! I order them from the Dutch Label Shop: www.dutchlabelshop.com/en_us/
How many chains did you do? In the beginning.
🤔 I made this several years ago, so I can’t remember how many exactly. I chained a length of 21 inches (53 cm)
@@ModeBespoke oh ok okay thank you 😊,although it’s fine if you didn’t remember.
Nice
Thank you!
how many yards did this project take? and will it work with only one skein?
You can use only one skein, but use both ends so you have two threads to work with. Alternatively, you can use a DK yarn and use a single thread.
You can make one hat per skein (678 yds, fingering yarn). So, two hats total, if you use the 2 skein simultaneously, method.
What kind of thread are you using
It’s a fingering yarn called Woolike. If you live in the US you can find it at Michaels stores.
Specs:
Size 1, fingering
85% acrylic, 15% nylon
678 yds / 3.5 oz
620 m / 100 g
Do you have a video using an I hook?
Will do this in the round as well
🤔 you know, I use an I hook often, but can’t think of a specific video in which I use one. I normally use a thicker medium yarn (like the super saver yarn) when I use that hook. You can use it for most of my patterns, just switch your yarn.
And yes, you can definitely crochet this in the round. 🙂
🙂🙂🙂
Nice video, where can i have the label made?
Thank you! I order mine online from Dutch Label Shop. www.dutchlabelshop.com/en_us/
I am a beginner crocheter and I say beginner I mean almost no experience.
Thank YOU 😊! Have fun, and let me know how it turns out. 😃
Where do I find pattern.

What is size for men hat
Measurements are all under the video, in the description box
can we use only 1 yarn. see that u r using 2 yarn. I already purchased a yarn and its thicker than the one u r using
Yes, you can use a bigger yarn. You may need to change your hook size, and you will have to adjust the chain size, but you can definitely do it 😊
I guess I’m the dummy of the group. I just don’t get it. ( sighs )
Ok. I feel better. Watched it again. Now I have it. Tyvm 😊❤
Not at all! It really wasn’t my best tutorial, so I apologize for the confusion it may have caused.
@@ModeBespokeI did want to ask. Is it necessary to use two simultaneously? Or can I just use one ?
I apologize for the delay in responding! You can use a single thread. To make a similar yarn weight, you can substitute the two threads with one; use a DK, lightweight, or #3 yarn. (It’s three different names for the same yarn weight).
