    Loved this quick, beautiful design & tutorial, thank you! With the free printed pattern & your (as always) fun video to guide our hooks along, this is a terrific project for your Crowd you’ve shared. Hubby asked for one in “Viking Purple” today (it’s football 🏈 season so in his team’s color) and viola! Only took me part of an afternoon 💜 He was thrilled! Happy crochet, everyone! 🧶

    I frogged and started over 7 times!!! Usually after 4 or 5 rounds. I was using a charcoal yarn which didn't help. Finally got round 8 done, then thought I'd gone wrong again. So I laid that aside and started fresh with a light colored yarn. Counted stitches until I was blue in the face, lol! I always put a marker in my first sc at the beginning of the rounds. The problem, I think, for me and most people is the JOIN. I wish that would have been shown and explained a little better. If you read the written pattern carefully, you'll see that you skip the very last sc in each round. It's kind of a stretch to sl st over to the starting sc to make the join, so it seems wrong, but it's not wrong. Yes, you do end up with a visible diagonal seam. That's just the way it is. I've gone back to my original charcoal gray hat, and I think it's finally going OK. I should finish it up soon.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 роки тому

      The beginning of a round creates a gapping space that appears to be a stitch. It's the problem with doing stuff in the round. So it always feels like there is something missing unless you do the last stitch tight.

    For those who are shocked by the comments, here is a tip: try to watch the video first for some rounds so you can understand better how the sequence of the pattern goes. Don't give up! And use a marker on the last chain of every round. That will make things easier.

    In the pattern, the fifth round says to sl st into ch,
    Ch 1, (1sc,ch1,1sc,) ch1
    SKIP next sc, 1sc, ch1, twice ,
    Ch1, SKIP next sc, (1sc,ch1,1sc) repeat.
    Which one???? Your saying instead of skipping, to sc!! So there is an extra count!! Too many stitches

      It sounds like you may be accidentally adding stitches in your rounds. Best thing is to count your stitches after each round to make sure you have the right amount of stitches. The stitch count for each row is shown in the written pattern. I also put a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row so I know where the row started.

    • @lslates2
      @lslates2 3 роки тому

      I have this problem, too. My joins go completely diagonally and ruin the smooth even look of the rest of the hat. Did I do something wrong? I worked with a dark brown, too and had trouble seeing where to make the joining slip stitch. Then you need to make another slip stitch to get in the first ch 1. Then, at the end of the round, it is confusing as to where to make the joining slip stitch. It seems like you would decrease at that point. I was bothered by that and don’t like the prominent “seam” at the joins. Do you have any suggestions on how to make the joins more invisible?

    • @paulinaradeva9157
      @paulinaradeva9157 3 роки тому

      @@lslates2 Hi Linda, actually I realized I was doing wrong the second sl st. So, after I started to do it in the correct loop, the gap was not so big anymore. However, I understand what you mean, because this is now my new problem and by the way in the end of the video, where Mickey is explaining about the edging, I saw that he has this ugly diagonal seam as well. I think it is appearing because we are chrocheting in circles and every increase is moving the joining to the left. I could recommend you to use stitch marker in order not to lose the start of the row. What I will try now is to move this stitch marker one or two loops back or front in order to avoid the diagonal at least. I don't think that the seam will disappear but at least it will be one straight line.

    • @ClaireNicole33
      @ClaireNicole33 3 роки тому +3

      Paulina, i'll answer your question based on how I learned this, NOT based on this video at all bc I just started this video.... I can make a perfect line seam that you can't see at all. When you get to the end of your round you'll have a kinda big gap but make sure you slip stitch into your first stitch of the round, NOT the chain. So skip that big gap and sl st into your 1st stitch and then chain one and put your first stitch of the next round into that same sl st/ch1 space.... Go see "bag o day crochet" channel, Crystal is an AMAZING up close very thorough teacher. She even tells you exactly how many stitches you should have after each row....And she has hundred plus balls of yarn giveaways all the time!! One is ending tomorrow I believe♡.... Just go see any of her beany videos and you'll see what i'm saying:). Hope this helps❤

    I guess the opening comment was this video was going to go too fast. Pausing did not help. It slightly clarified the written pattern. The first four rounds, at least, should have been taken more slowly. Then the transition between rounds 8 and nine should've been walked through, as well. I hope the corporate people aren't dictating the video production, now.

      At the bottom right of the screen of screen there is Autoplay, Close Caption, a Taggle or Strang looking wheel and last is icon for enlarge or exit full screen. Click on the Taggle which is setting. Go to Playback speed and lower the speed that the auto will run at. That will slow the auto down.

      I'm sorry Juro. I am probably not the right tutorial host for you. There are many other crochet hosts here on UA-cam that can probably talk at the speed that you prefer. I talk to you in my regular voice and speed as if you were sitting with me in person. If I slow down, I feel like I am being condescending in tone.
