38 Special is a great southern rock band that was formed in 1974. They had a lot of hits in the early 80's-90's such as "Hold On Loosely", "You Keep Runnin' Away", "If I'd Been The One", "Back Where You Belong", "Teacher, Teacher", "Like No Other Night", "Second Chance", "The Sound Of Your Voice" etc.
What an honest and pure reaction from you ladies. Loved the stories from third generation and second generation’s face when the girl handed the keys over. 😂 Pure gold!
Donnie Van Zant (guitarist with the cool lookin' hat - Ronne Van Zant of Lynard Skynard's brother) and Don Barnes (guitarist) shared lead vocals in .38 Special. Don sings the lead vocal on "Rockin' into the Night", "Hold On Loosely", "Caught Up in You", etc.
LOL. Donna, "I like all the guys in every video. They are all super-hot but the one with the hat is the best." Lulu, "Yeah, he's got character." I about inhaled my water.
Funny story on how the band got its name. According to the Decades TV Network (video uploaded to UA-cam 11/16/2018) where they spoke with Don Barnes about the song "Hold On Loosely": "The band's name was thought up after an incident which found the boys practicing in a warehouse out in the middle of nowhere. When police arrived after being notified by locals of the noise, the band members were unable to come out because of a padlock on the door. One of the cops said, "That's all right. We'll let this .38 special do the talking", and shot off the lock." I'm guessing by the verbiage that it was the interviewer relaying the story. He did not elaborate how the band got into a warehouse where the door was locked from the outside. Maybe one of the upset locals put the padlock on the door?
I was obsessed with .38 Special, Doobie Brothers, Bob Seger in my 20s and 30s, thanks for this one. Now I'm hunting for my CD. They had such a special sound.
When working in the kitchen, particularly washing dishes, this is the first song on the CD of Classic Southern Rock music that I always play. Bring back so many memories of my youth. Others have probably mentioned all what I would say, so I won't repeat. Rock on, Ladies.
Before these guys got big, I first saw them as the opening act on the Stones Some Girls tour. Another new band on the bill was Foreigner. 1978 was a great year for concerts!
@@jamiegriffin9866 LOL, Small world. Me and some high school friends drove from West Carroll to see them is Shreveport the night before I left for the Marines.
My older brother graduated high school a few years before me and bought a 64 red Corvette convertible. In 1967 he was on active duty and I was a 17 year old Senior in high school when he left the Vette with me for six months. I KNEW I was hot poop. 🤣 These guys played live on the beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama back in the day. Great concert.
A Concert Memory ..... I had gotten 4 tickets to see .38 Special at Long Islands Calderone Concert Hall in '81 or '82 . I worked around Grand Central station in NYC at the time & they had a Ticketron outlet in the terminal so I would always be there at 9AM when tickets for shows went on sale . Still a relatively unknown band at the time . This was the tour for their "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys" album and that album broke them with the song "Hold on Loosely" . Anyways , this show was an early stop on that tour , before "Hold on Loosely" had broke as a single . So that day I'm at Ticketron at 9AM & Guess what ? I got 1st Row Tickets ! Having seen the band open for The Outlaws already , I knew they had this thing where lead singer Donnie Van Zant ( the guy in the white hat in this video . He is the brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd's lead singer Ronnie Van Zant ) would do & it was handing out a bottle of Jack Daniels to the front row to pass around . So when we see Donnie doing this at the show we're at we're looking to the center of the row where the bottle was handed off & to our Great Pleasure & Drunken Glee , The Bottle Came to Our Side of the Row ! Thanks Donnie ! 🙂
Yes the singer is Donny Van Zant the brother of Ronnie Van Zant the singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd ... there are beautiful songs from there other band called Van Zant..the brothers had a great career from their talents that everyone loved..yes check out VAN ZANT...BEAUTIFUL SONGS...great job reacting girls
This is one of the many songs that I love from them, but this song in particular was featured in the movie spring break from 1983, which I suggest watching is a good movie and that pretty much I guess solidified my love for this song but I did like it beforehand but Dave got so many more songs that y'all should take and looking at

Hello Ladies! 38 Special is a band that knows how to rock! Still get radio play today. Good tunes to listen to crusing around the neighborhood. Windows down and volume up!! Enjoy and have a rocking day!!!👍☮️😎
Two ladies in a Corvette!! Now that sounds like a song! Liked all the songs I've heard by these guys but never bought a album (or cassette). Was hooked on UFO, Scorpions, Priest, DIO, OZZY etc. Great Reaction Gals! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Now Donna, hold on to your chair, Joe Bonamassa and the group Train, just released 38 Special song “Hold on Loosely. The lead singer of Train is a huge Joe fan, he asked Joe if they could do a song together and Joe decided on Hold on Loosely and trust me, just do a you tube search for Joe Bonamassa Hold on Loosely. Read the comments the second comment is from the lead guitarist of 38 Special and he praised Joes ability on the song his lead is at the end and he stomps a hole in that lead that made their lead guitarist said had he been around in the early 80’s he would have stolen some of Joes riffs in the song. It’s an instant epic remake of the song.
I've been a fan of .38 special since their first album and I've always found it crazy that their biggest songs were all sung by the guitar player, not the lead singer. Jeff Carlisi played the best melodic lead guitar
See..I told you girls the 80s band were the best. Love, love this song! Thanks so much for reviewing one of the oldies. The guitarist with the striped shirt reminded me of Waldo of "Where's Waldo". Either that or Ronald McDonald. 😄
FYI, the guy in the white jacket is Donnie Van Zandl, the brother of Ronnie Van Zandt. Don Barnes, which is him singing, did most of there hits. Great job ladies!! Love your channel!👍
Hey y'all, another awesome band from Jacksonville Florida. I've seen 38 special every year at the California State Fair for the past 20+ years and they never disappoint. I would like to suggest chain lightning..a real fine rocker I think y'all would especially Kathy. Take care

"Hold On Loosely" was a favorite of me and my high school gf in 1983-4. This band rose from the ashes of Lynyrd Skynyrd y'all.
No. They were around when Skynyrd was around, just not as popular.
@@jonlate4581Well,, Donnie Van Zant was a brother to Ronnie Van Zant, so there was a connection there
one of my top 2 favorite songs of all time since 1982 when they used to play it on the radio A LOT
My first car was a 1970 Chevy Impala. Bought it myself at 16 years old in 1983. Loved that car.
Back in the 80s when I was a teenager, 38 Special would come to our Fair every year here in Marietta Georgia. Good times!

Donnie and Ronnie looked so much alike. This made me sad to think that.
I saw them in concert at a fair here in idaho
“Rockin into the Night” is my favorite 38 Special song. This one is a close second. You ladies are funny.
Don Barnes the lead vocalist is the only original member left in the band.
He still tours with them now and sounds great!
The one in the white coat is Donnie Van Sant brother of Ronnie Van Sant the leader singer writer of Lynryd Skynryd. Rock on Ladies good stuff
I came to literally say this exact same thing lol kudos for saying it first my friend
DONNA A CAR IS A CAR LOL!!!! I LOVE YOU ALL LOL!!! I LOVED THEM MANY YEARS AGO!!! WE GREW UP IN THE RIGHT DECADE !!!!
