Oh gosh this song brings back sooo many memories! They had another hit "Hold on Loosely" that is just as good. Love the vocals and lyrics in this band. Made me want to get up and dance! Great car song too😊Thanks so much Asia and BJ for reacting to this one - it's fun listening to you break it all down.🧡

my senior in high school! 1982! it wasn't a white thing. it wasn't a black thing. i was a good music thing! everybody was on the dance floor when this hit!
no, this is a song about a lady love, not about a daughter. they use "little girl" in the same manner as "little darlin'" or "baby" or "babe". this is my favourite song by .38 special. i think you already covered "hold on loosely" which is also great. also like "if i'd been the one". they all have that wonderfully melodic southern rock sound with catchy hooks - love it! also fun fact: the official music video for "if i'd been the one" features the model/actress who would go on to be bruce springsteen's 1st wife.
One of my 38 Special favorites. It is the first single released from Southern rock band 38 Special's 1982 album, Special Forces. It became their first #1 on the Billboard Top Tracks rock chart. It also became one of the band's two top ten pop hits, reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Source: Wikipedia
Now this is my type of music. I love most genres but any type of rock is my favorite 😍. Just love 38 special too. Great bunch of guys. Very nice and down to earth. Great in concert ❤️
Timeless. My 23 year old drove around a mall parking lot because this song was on and he wanted to finish it before going in. It is 100% a love song. Watch the video 🙂
They had large radio play, didn't sell alot of albums 20 million or something like that. Huge concerts though, largest I've ever been to. I seen them in T Town the glass city had to of been over a million people!

I love me some 38 special! Their second singer and guitar player,Donnie vanzant is the brother of the legendary Ronnie vanzant of lynyrd skynyrd who tragically died in the plane crash
38 Special back then was great. That same 38 Specia,l now that we've put some years behind us, is simply awesome. Every genre of music in the 80s was better than any genre before or after. Every genre!! And ill die on that hill, alone if need be.
My memories of .38 Special are always of times in a car, somehow. I was driving from Cocoa Beach to Punta Gorda, FLA for a weekend a hundred years ago (break from military training) and suddenly a DJ came on that I had known and liked from my hometown in the Northeast, and he started with .38 Special's "Chain Lightning." Perfect tune to start a weekend of mild debauchery and misdeeds. That's a song I'd love to see you guys react to. Thanks for this one!
This band is cut straight from the mold of Lynard Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Allman Brothers, Tom Petty ect.... They have many hits. My fave is "Chain Lightning", Donnie Van Zant's voice is unmistakable. Jeff Carlisi on guitar, Don Barnes on the guitar and vocals, Ken Lyons on the bass, and Jack Grondin on the drums. What a great country rock sound. I hope you will cover some more of their music. "Fantasy Girl" is another ROCKER!
I Absolutely Love the voice of Don Barnes!! "Little Girl" was used as like a pet name: like babe, baby, darlin' etc etc. They were not singing about children. I think y'all were reading too much into the lyric. This era of 38 Special was perfection!!! They had such an Awesome sound!! Check out their songs "Back Where You Belong", "Hold On Loosely", "Like No Other Night", "Teacher Teacher", "Back To Paradise", "Same Old Feeling", "If I'd Been The One", "Rockin' Into The Night", "Somebody Like You".
Great song. I almost feel like that's a Southern thing to put the word "little" in front of things that are dear or precious to you. I don't know where that ever started, but I recall doing it when I was growing up and as I got older I stopped doing it when people started to pick on me about everything being "little". IDK. I think it was just a term of endearment.
Ok, BJ and Asia. Since you like uplifting music with positive charge to it, I'm going to give you one of my personal favorites. This one is by the O'Jays back in the mid-7o's and will put some bump in your rump. A glide in your stride and a dip in your hip. The song is, GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT. If these songs don't put a dip in your hip, as Don Cornelius used to say, there is no hope for you. I've done my part. Now do yours and git after it. And enjoy.

I hope you react to their song "If I'd Been The One" which was released in late 1983. It's one of 38 Special's best songs but has not received much airplay over the years.
