Merrill Osmond was actually the lead singer if you could identify one person. Alan was the oldest and leading force. Wayne was the guitar player, Jay was the funny one, and Donny, the youngest was the heartthrob. And on Crazy Horses, Jay actually sings lead with Merrill taking the pre-chorus.
Donny was a heartthrob at the time with a beautiful voice. The Osmonds were a group before the Jackson 5. They began with barbershop music on the Andy Williams Show. Donny was only about 4. My parents loved to listen to the boy. Few groups compare with their music today.
No, it was about a gang of horses that broke out of a coral, went apeshit, broke a lot of laws, got caught and ended up spending the spending the rest of their lives being rode by rodeo clowns, crazy horses
People forget that The Osmonds were actually serious musicians. This one is a favourite of many heavy metal people. When I lived in Asia in the late 70's, our housemaid would tell me about this really nice TV show, called "Donny Emery". Took me a few hours to figure out it was her accent, she was recommending "Donny and Marie".
Loved it, it's a classic! I remember watching this when it first came out. The Osmonds could rock, and dance! The 70's was great for music and fashion.
My favorite Osmonds song is 'One Bad Apple". I remember the Saturday Morning cartoon TV show. The Osmonds performed as a barbershop quartet at Disneyland in the 1960s.
Back in the day there were two Saturday morning cartoons that everyone watched, The Jackson 5 and The Osmonds! They both were MUST WATCH tv in the 70's.
I once worked security at an Osmond Brothers concert (Hollywood Palladium) in the 1970’s. My job was to prevent the 12 year old girls in the front row from jumping on stage. Their opening song was Crazy Horses.
This was way before the Donny & Marie Show. Crazy Horses was released in 1972. No twins in the family. Jay sings lead on this song but it was usually Merrill with Donny singing secondary. They all played multiple instruments and wrote most of their own music. Merrill had a fabulous rock voice. Listen to The Osmonds Down By The Lazy River and Hold Her Tight really showcases Merrill's talents as a vocalist. Donny still has a residency in Las Vegas at Harrah's.
The lead singer of this song is Jay Osmond, who is usually their drummer. The other singer is Merrill, who usually sang lead. There are no twins in the family and Donny still performs. I just saw him in concert a month ago.
Talk about making you feel old, when Donnie announced he was a grandpa it was a wakeup call for the rest of us. LOL This song is way different than their usual style, but it looks like they are having fun doing it. No twins, but the family resemblance is amazing. Jimmy was the youngest sibling. With them being Mormon they pretty much had large families themselves.
They were called The Osmond Brothers. I grew up watching them and The Jackson 5 on TV. Crazy Horses was a hard rock departure from the typical Osmonds sound. I was shocked when I heard it for the first time just two years ago. I guess they dropped the Brothers from their name when little Marie jointed the act. Later, Donny and Marie had a show on Sunday evenings. I remember watching them trade barbs every week when I was in high school. (TV offered much less content back then.)
Ah...the Osmonds, great family and great group. The two oldest brothers Virl and Tom as was mentioned are both deaf from some sort of degenerate disease if I remember right. The Original Osmond Brothers group was Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay. The group was first formed to earn money to buy their older brothers hearing aids. The group was at that time a Barbershop Quartet. They were so successful doing that as amateurs that their parents decided to have them go professional. They came to California to audition for the Lawrence Welk Show but got turned down. But since they were already in California they went to Disneyland. While there they happened to run into The Dapper Dans Barbershop Quartet, a group employed by Disneyland to entertain the guests. They were noticed by the Dapper Dans and were invited to sing along with them. They were so impressed by the Osmonds singing that were featured on a Disney after dark show. The father of the singer Andy Williams saw them on that show and told his son he needed to hire them for his show. They became regulars on the Andy Williams Show and rest is history as they say. Donny didn't join the group until much later. Marie and Jimmy came along later to join in. They didn't get professional success as a group until the early seventies after the Jackson Five started making it big. The Osmond Brothers first big hit was One Bad Apple. The song was first offered to Motown for the Jackson Five but they turned it down. All the Osmonds play several instruments as well as sing and dance. They also started writing their own songs. Crazy Horses being one of them. Merrill was the lead singer on most of their songs along with Donny. This is the only song of theirs that I know of where Jay(the drummer) was the lead singer.
When I was seven years old and for my birthday my Parents Took me and my older brother and some friends to see the Osmonds at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium , it was July 15, 1972 my birthday was on the 13th but that was the day we had my birthday party and later that night we went to the concert the opening at was Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.
The osmonds They were so versatile went from pop country and Rock and they all played their own instruments oh I missed the 70s such great music they had back then
Ha ha, the Osmonds 70's biggest boy band marketed to teeny bopper's. yet in reality they wanted to play hard rock. This wss fron their rock album.Totally different from what they're known for. Whomever suggested should have pointed that out.
This is one of the first environmental ist protest songs. It's talking about the pollution caused by America's love affair with gas-guzzling cars. Given they were on a big label - and being conservative Mormons - it was quite a brave move to record it.
Fun fact, Donnie Osmond and Michael Jackson were best friends growing up. They had EVERYTHING in common. Their groups were the same size, they were both the youngest in their group, they were both the 7th out of 9 kids, and they both played the same role in their group!! Merril sang most of the lead when Donnie was young and Donnie started singing lead when he got older. There are no twins and 9 kids total in their family. The 2 oldest boys were born deaf and do not perform, of course. They started performing as a family to raise money for hearing aids for their hearing impaired brothers.
They were known as The Osmond Brothers, but once Donny joined them, they were just called The Osmonds. The original 4 singers are Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay, later joined by Donny, Marie, and Jimmy. They have 2 older brothers, Tom and Virl, who are hearing impaired but can dance and play a few instruments. All together, they play over 30 instruments and have been performing for 60+ years. Sadly, most of them have now retired.
I meet Donny in 2016 in Biloxi, MS. Seems to be a really nice guy. Was trying really hard not to freak out when we talked for like 15 minutes. I am about 3 years younger than Donny. Been a fan since they started. Also loved the Donny & Marie Show. I believe their Mom made all their costumes especially at the beginning ❤❤ great reaction ❤❤
Baby boomer here - who used to have The Osmonds plastered all over my room and an album spinning on the record player ❤ Down By The Lazy River & Yo Yo ( with videos) I would highly suggest 🔥
This was done in 1972 and the Donny & Marie's show started in 1976. The brothers previously considered bubblegum music, came out with rock but gave up any hopes of a rock career to work on the Donny & Marie show.
Merrell was my Sunday school teacher with his wife . I met all of them back in the 1970s they lived in the same neighborhood as I did untill they moved by the Provo temple in Provo Utah
No twins. The range of their years of birth are from 1945 to 1963...this includes the oldest two sons/brothers who are deaf and the reason they started performing, as well as Marie and Jimmy...the two youngest.
Don't know if you've done a video on this '70's group from Scotland, but check out the Bay City Rollers and their hit Saturday Night or one of their other hit songs Rock and Roll Love Letter.
The couple George (1917-2007) and Olive Osmond (1925-2004) from Ogden, Utah, had a total of nine children (George, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy) and 55 grandchildren; the members of the Osmonds all come from this extended family. Wiki

You say you loved The Osmonds, you don’t even know their names or how many there were. The only one you know is Donny. People who were really fans can name everyone of them from oldest to youngest, And the youngest brother is Jimmy. And Jay sings lead on this song. Marie is the only sister & she does mostly Country. Alan, Wayne,Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie & Jimmy. The Osmonds could all play multiple instruments but had the ones in the band that they played most of the time, Alan, Wayne & Merrill all played guitars, Jay played drums & Donny played keyboard or a piano sometimes. Jimmy was really young so he wasn’t an actual member of the band but he & Marie did perform ar their concerts. And this was before The Donny & Marie TV Show, which tan from 1976 thru 79. Donny actually married wife Debbie during the time of the TV Show. There are lots of great Osmond songs. 👏👏👏👏👍🏼
There were no twins in the family. There are two oldest brothers who did not perform, Tom & Virl, they were born deaf. You should watch the movie Side By Side about the family & their life, it tells the whole story.
Great seeing you react to the Osmonds. Back in the 1970s the group, like in this clip, consisted of: Alan (guitar, June 22, 1949), Wayne (lead guitar, August 28, 1951), Merrill (bass guitar, April 30, 1953), Jay (in this clip lead singer, normally drums, March 2, 1955) and Donny (keyboard, December 9, 1957). Donny was by far the most handsome of the bunch. I LOVED him in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat film; I think he was the best Joseph and indeed, his voice was amazing in it: Any dream will do (From the movie: ua-cam.com/video/0wAs3sTAFJ4/v-deo.html, Live: ua-cam.com/video/a2r6tYg1VEY/v-deo.html), Close Every Door (From the movie: ua-cam.com/video/d8reEiq4ui8/v-deo.html, Live: ua-cam.com/video/zbQ9SvTo88g/v-deo.html). The brothers were great and extremely talented: all brothers could sing and dance and each brother could play about 4-6 instruments, really amazing. Love their dancing in YoYo: ua-cam.com/video/jlA-z0du1Pg/v-deo.html and One Bad Apple: ua-cam.com/video/NpLSq29aORQ/v-deo.html. But they did not just make "bubblegum" music. Some of their songs bordered on (hard) rock, like Hold her Tight: ua-cam.com/video/6z9D2PJmz_k/v-deo.html, Last Days: ua-cam.com/video/Qfl6FJRw1dI/v-deo.html
Along the lines of this, another Osmonds song from this part of their history that I'd recommend is "Hold Her Tight". There's a reason why they had fans like Led Zeppelin during this period.
Ben was written for Donny for the movie Ben, but Michael was available and they needed it to be recorded so the movie could be released. Donny was on tour with the brothers and unavailable!!!!
Jimmy is the youngest and had a hit in the UK with Long Haired Lover From Liverpool. He featured in the UK Celebrity Masterchef in 2016 and was beaten in the final. He was well loved and was a gent. The UK Public loved him. He is not in the video.
Suggestion to look at the hit song the song Nobodys Wife at Pinkpop in 1998 for 50.000 people which catapulted Anouk into stardom. The performance by Anouk at Pinkpop is also callled the Egg Incident which helped Anouk become even more famous. It is the way Anouk reacted when someone in the audience threw an egg on her t shirt while performing for 50.000 people at Pinkpop in 1998. Pinkpop is the oldest still existing music festival in the world founded right after Woodstock. Pinkpop is held every year in The Netherlands. Anouk had a record deal in the US as well but it fell threw due to an argument with the music producer otherwise Anouk would have been big in the US as well. Make sure to watch Nobodys Wife by Anouk at Pinkpop in 1998 that is when the egg incident happened which she handled like a boss. I think Lulu will like Anouk as she is really pretty and has beautiful hair lol.
The Osmonds children: Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie, and Jimmy. Virl and Tom were both born with severe hearing impairments. The Osmonds grup: Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny .... and later Jimmy joined them. The ONLY girl was their sister Marie. She had her own singing career and and TV Vareity Show with her brother Donny. She was 15 and Donny was 16. This was in the 70's. Donny and Marie also made an album: Goin' Coconuts. I listened to it constantly on repeat.
There were no twins. They were just very close in age. There were 9 of them: Tom and Virl were born deaf. Then there was Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy. They all favored their mom in the face and hair, except Jimmy's hair. The Osmonds and the Jacksons, who also had 9, were the same ages and Michael and Donny were close. The Osmonds were way more talented then the Jacksons. Each of the Osmonds played several instruments and the Jacksons did not. Alan started off as the lead singer when it was just the four of them. As time went on, Merrill started singing lead. Surprisingly, Donny didn't sing lead until he was 12 and had his first solo song with Puppy Love and the rest they say, is history.
This was when they started the osmonds then Donny went solo then he & Marie teamed up. No twins. They can play every single instrument all of them. Their two oldest brothers were Deaf & were not in the business. The oldest singing in group goes Alan, Merrille Wayne, jay, Donny then Marie & jimmy the youngest came in. That’s the history.
The Osmonds were several years before the Jacksons....they were already regulars on The Andy Williams Show, getting national exposure, about 7 years before the Jacksons released their first song...and releasing THEIR first song a couple of years before the Jackson 5 did. To be fair, however, The J5 became stars on the pop charts a couple of years before The Osmonds........and yes....Donny and Michael were very good friends.
Crazy Horses is great listen to YoYo and Down By The Lazy River. By the way the Osmond Brothers are Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay. Listen you will love them I promise.
Donny's voice was changing so he didn't sing. Jay and Merrill are singing lead. No twins. The song is about air pollution. Check out One Bad Apple, Down By The Lazy River, and Yo Yo.
"While the Osmond Brothers were working on Disneyland After Dark, Andy Williams's father Jay saw them and was so impressed he told his son to book them on his television show, The Andy Williams Show. Andy did, and the Osmond Brothers became regulars on the show from 1962 to 1967, where they earned the nickname "one-take Osmonds" among staff due to their professionalism and tireless rehearsing. Donny soon joined them on the show, making the Osmond Brothers a five-member group." That is a quote from wikipedia. I had read it somewhere but I can't find it now, that combined, the Osmonds and Donny solo, had sold 5 million singles in one year. Like I said, I can't find that article or story now so I can't verify it.
These guys were super talented, and could have been a great rock band. Merrill was the best singer, but Donnie was the young, cute one so he began to get the most attention, which is fine. Between the five brothers they played more than 30 instruments, and wrote a lot of they own music.
The story goes that Donnie's voice was changing during this time so he cut back on his singing. The song was about cars and pollution. This is only from what I've read so not guaranteed as fact.
I thought Marie from the Donny and Marie show was a bit cute. Donny re-released it on on his own albums (15yrs ago?) Don't forget the youngest, lil Jimmy who appeared on the Osmond's towards the end and had a few hits.
I remember watching The Donny and Marie show when I was little. When I think of them I think of the song I'm a little bit country and I'm a little bit rock and roll. Talk about a talented family but they were it, Marie still looks great for her age. Great song and great reaction as always. So Donna you're not alone remembering that show. Got my message for my song so looking forward to Feb, 27th. Thank you so much for responding when it will be.
Can you please react to Everything's Not Lost by Coldplay live at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle? That would just be awesome. Great reaction by the way! ❤
I am thinking Hair by the Cowsills. Since Lulu is loopy for hair.

Well, the Osmonds and the song "Crazy Horses" was in fact the first "hard rock" song i heard growing up in 1972 (9 years old). The sibling (no twins) was all performing in the band. Marie joined them around 1973. They are born: Alan Osmond, 1949 Wayne Osmond, 1951 Merrill Osmond, 1953 Jay Osmond, 1955 Donny Osmond, 1957 Marie Osmond, 1959 Jimmy Osmond, 1963 Another great song from their first Rock Ear record (Phase III) is "Down By The Lazy River". Here a live version: ua-cam.com/video/Bz3Vglranbo/v-deo.html Here a "studio" version performed on TV: ua-cam.com/video/TfZPp3IF7os/v-deo.html One of my favourites of that album is "My Drum: ua-cam.com/video/nLM-NBUYpuM/v-deo.html From the album "Crazy Horses" I love "Hold Her Tight". Studio: ua-cam.com/video/6z9D2PJmz_k/v-deo.html Live: ua-cam.com/video/oDbIjD7ScqM/v-deo.html
I don't believe I ever heard this song from The Osmonds. What I remember was so much better I didn't really care for this song. But don't let that song represent what they have done because they did some really great music.
Crazy horses was one of their hard rocking songs
Excellent reaction!!! You need to react to "Yo Yo" performed on the Flip Wilson Show. It's incredible with the choreography.
Donny's voice was changing during this time... it happens. :)

Crazy horses was a song about air pollution caused by automotive "horse power" hence the phrase crazy horses! Great song!
No, it was about a gang of horses that broke out of a coral, went apeshit, broke a lot of laws, got caught and ended up spending the spending the rest of their lives being rode by rodeo clowns, crazy horses
I think I remember seeing the Osmonds for the first time on the Andy Williams TV show.

My favorite Osmonds song is 'One Bad Apple". I remember the Saturday Morning cartoon TV show. The Osmonds performed as a barbershop quartet at Disneyland in the 1960s.

One of my favorite Osmond Brothers songs is He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. Amazing vocals, gorgeous harmonies.
That is a Hollies song, not Osmonds
@@garyfletcher844 The Osmonds sang it, as well. No need to act all proprietary on behalf of other people. Makes you look silly.
The lead singer of this song is Jay Osmond, who is usually their drummer. The other singer is Merrill, who usually sang lead. There are no twins in the family and Donny still performs. I just saw him in concert a month ago.
React to
"DOWN BY THE LAZY RIVER"

One of Donny's more "recent" songs is "I'll Make a Man Out of You" in Disney's "Mulan." No twins in this generation of the family, by the way! 😅❤❤❤

You should go down the Osmond rabbit hole. Donny does Soldier of Love.then check their younger Era.
Sacred Emotion us my favorite and Donny is gorgeous in the video
Poor Lulu is like "What am I watching". Lol

This is by far their heaviest song....so much so that Ozzy Osborne actually contacted Donny and told him how much he loved this song....no joke!
I've heard Donny tell about the time Ozzy gave him that compliment.
You should listen to the album The Plan, if you think this was their hardest rock song. You may change your mind!!!
super song ,la bonne époque 👍👍

Merrill was the official lead singer. Donny was the break out star. There are 9 Osmond kids and 9 Jackson kids. Lots of parallels with the 2 families.
the Osmonds 1rst appeared on national tv in 1962

You should listen to the album The Plan
@@susanfiore5830 Their best album.
Along the lines of this, another Osmonds song from this part of their history that I'd recommend is "Hold Her Tight". There's a reason why they had fans like Led Zeppelin during this period.
Check out another great song from that same year Hold Her Tight it will just rock you
One bad apple was written for the J/5 and they passed on it. It was the Osmond first mega hit! :D
The only Osmonds song I liked.
My sisters were in the Osmonds Fan Club, which sent "Smile and Osmonds Smile" stickers
It was a big song here in the UK
You should see Hold Her Tight.
My older sister drove me crazy playing the Osmonds records, she especially loved Donny. I was listening to the Beatles at the time.
Yoyo or down by the lazy river does have Donny sharing the vocals lead with Merrill
I would love to hear you react to the song "At Seventeen" by Janis Ian. A poignent song about being an teenage female.
Merrill sang lead on the brothers songs.
Brother in front was doing the ragdoll
The Osmonds were several years before the Jacksons....they were already regulars on The Andy Williams Show, getting national exposure, about 7 years before the Jacksons released their first song...and releasing THEIR first song a couple of years before the Jackson 5 did.
To be fair, however, The J5 became stars on the pop charts a couple of years before The Osmonds........and yes....Donny and Michael were very good friends.
The Osmond best song period
Crazy Horses is great listen to YoYo and Down By The
Lazy River. By the way the Osmond Brothers are Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay. Listen you will love them I promise.
Was a big hit in Europe
Look at bassheads,they sampled it
Check out the cartoon Josie and the Pussycats Voodoo!
My suggestions;
Cradle To The Grave/Devils/Rock N Roll/All For You/I Got Mine - MOTORHEAD
watch down by the lazy River. it is upbeat
Love you girls. Thanks for your kind words.
Love you too.
These guys were super talented, and could have been a great rock band. Merrill was the best singer, but Donnie was the young, cute one so he began to get the most attention, which is fine. Between the five brothers they played more than 30 instruments, and wrote a lot of they own music.
I think this was around the time Donny's voice was changing, which was why he wasn't singing.
The story goes that Donnie's voice was changing during this time so he cut back on his singing.
The song was about cars and pollution. This is only from what I've read so not guaranteed as fact.
ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ 𝖲𝗎𝗇𝖽𝖺𝗒🎉
bboom
the bous look like Father, and Marie looks like Mother.
If LULU want't another papa, I'm available.
That's sweet
I thought Marie from the Donny and Marie show was a bit cute. Donny re-released it on on his own albums (15yrs ago?) Don't forget the youngest, lil Jimmy who appeared on the Osmond's towards the end and had a few hits.
Donnie was going through a voice change at that time so this one was specifically written for the others
You're welcome
The osmonds were older here. This is near the end of the band.
there is also a younger brother who had a hit little jimmy osmond
Can you please react to Everything's Not Lost by Coldplay live at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle? That would just be awesome.
Great reaction by the way! ❤
Start with YO YO. 😂
Mormon metal. What a trip.
Merrill was usually the lead but tgey all took turns some time
I am thinking Hair by the Cowsills. Since Lulu is loopy for hair.
Well, the Osmonds and the song "Crazy Horses" was in fact the first "hard rock" song i heard growing up in 1972 (9 years old). The sibling (no twins) was all performing in the band. Marie joined them around 1973. They are born:
Alan Osmond, 1949
Wayne Osmond, 1951
Merrill Osmond, 1953
Jay Osmond, 1955
Donny Osmond, 1957
Marie Osmond, 1959
Jimmy Osmond, 1963
Another great song from their first Rock Ear record (Phase III) is "Down By The Lazy River".

There was actually two older brothers Virl and Tom. But they were both born with severe hearing impairment.
Older brothers:
George Virl 1945
Tom 1947
Totally different from their usual style.
Excellent reaction, you really enjoyed your videos. There would be the possibility of showing them a video so they can react to it, greetings.
3 STRANGE DAYS
SCHOOL OF FISH
I don't believe I ever heard this song from The Osmonds. What I remember was so much better I didn't really care for this song. But don't let that song represent what they have done because they did some really great music.
