  • Buliding the Revell 1:32 F4U-1A Corsair. This is my third video. Since the model was rather big and lacking in overall detail, in this build, I tried to experiment with some new techniques and materials. The result is a heavy weathered build, perhaps not historically accurate but nonetheless overall satisfying. You might notice some mistakes, please leave a comment if you wish.

Yeah this kit is old and may not be accurate, and the parts fit may be fidgety, but building it and having it turn out like this, that's what model building is all about.
I remember when this hobby used to be fun. You bought a kit and just built it. You didn't care about accuracy, you probably wouldn't know if it was accurate or not, you didn't care, you cared about the end result.
You did a fantastic job. I did build this back in the 70's or 80's. I got one sent to me in error a couple of years ago. My plan is to make is a Fleet Air Arm machine flown by a Canadian serving in the RN.

Built this numerous times in the 70’s. Cut my teeth on modelling with Revell’s 1/32 scale line up. You did a great job on the build but I’m having problems with the accuracy of the paint scheme. It’s your build and you can paint the damn thing however you want. I paint as accurately as possible. Thank you for the posting! Love The Whistling Death!

Those molds are darn near 50 years old if not 50 by now.

I have seen other builders lay down a coat of interior green on the outside of the canopy frame first and then the coat of outer paint. The result makes the canopy frame seem painted on the "inside" the same color as the rest of the cockpit.

Yeah, I built that years ago, in the 70s. I see the parts fit is no better now than it was back then. A shame to invest all that time and have a sloppy parts fit detract from the finished product. If I do it again I'll try a different manufacturer. Back in the day this was as good as it got for me. My Uncle got me interested in modeling, He was 7 years older than me and I'd look forward to going to his place (grandparents house) after school on Tuesdays. He would be listening to what is now classic rock (got me interested in music enough to learn the bass and play in bands in the NYC tristate club scene) Sometimes I'd fish out a kit he got frustrated with from the trash and save it and other times he would buy me a kit too.I was in 5th grade when I started. Thinking of getting back into it. The last kit I built was the Hasegawa Feissler Storch , that was a few years ago. Hey, I love the musical choice!

I've bought this kit five times over. I ruined one as it was damaged over the years, second ive built the full Aircraft minus the landing gear. I tried to remake the cockpit even though at first glance it looks great but its a mess and very cramped quarters. I tried but failed still unfinished. Ive started on another but i think I'll just build it as it is straight from the box. I have tried to customise but im not a professional modeller. Its a nice kit and there is a cockpit Eduard set for this but nothing for the empty wheel wells. Unfortunately. But overall very nice. Ive yet to see the build.🇭🇲✌️

That's a good job on that simple model. Lots of work done especially with all the coats of paint. I take it the first bare metal is an undercoat. I was wandering the dark sea Blue was not dark enough and the underside is supposed to be white not light blue. However it's a nice finish. I have two of those to build I think I'll just build as they are. If I worry too much about details I'll make my self sicker than I am. Watch out for the colours if you build another. Sea Blue, intermediate blue and white underside.👍🇭🇲🦘✌️

Apply some hs above the aluminum layer and before you apply the base color... after it dries, brush it off with a short hard brush.. I hope it works for you. The correct colors for USN/USMC tri-color camouflage are Sea Blue (ANA 606), Intermediate Blue (ANA 608) and Insignia White (ANA 601). Sorry, but it really bugs me when people paint models (or even actual warbirds) in inaccurate colors. Other people then see those colors and assume they are accurate and then go on to inaccurately paint their models, perpetuating the inaccuracies.

    • @wbpsmodels3452

    • @matthewmcgee
      @matthewmcgee 3 роки тому +2

@@adampender2482 He certainly can paint it how he likes or as best he can. Obtaining accurate paint colors can be challenging depending on your budget and location. Revelle's box art is close, but their paint guide colors are not. (At least not in my kit's instructions.) Though WBP didn't follow those either. Not everyone cares about accuracy in their models and that is OK! I posted the correct colors because I want people, who do want accuracy, to know that the colors used in this build were not accurate. I'd recommend that those who do care about accuracy spend a bit of time researching what the real colors are/were and then use the widely available conversion charts to purchase or replicate those colors with the brands of paints that are available to them.
Uber-nerds will know to check period photos and documentation to ensure accuracy, since planes/tanks/vehicles in respected museums or at airshows are not always painted accurately. I've seen some beautiful Corsairs on the airshow circuit with inaccurate colors.
Again, I'm not trying to belittle WBP's build or say it isn't a nice model. I only want to point out that the colors are not technically accurate for an actual Corsair in WWII. Happy modelling.

Old indeed... hence the lack of detail and the excessive flush... Took me a long time to clean it up..

I built this kit, over 30 years ago, twice. Now it looks so poorly made.

Are you referring to the kit itself or my build?

I guess the resource of USA was poorer than the Japanese in WW2
Weathering is need but not to do it over. The war machine is short life very hard to use through the war period even the ace pilot

has to be one of the worst kit I have ever bought, poor fitting parts, lots of flashing, and when it comes tme to atach the wings you just want to find you engineered this kit and strangle him (-:

My thoughts exactly... If I had opened the box in the shop, I wouldn't have bought it... Nevertheless, it was one of the first kits I bought once I started modelling (after a 30 yrs hiatus), so I said "what the hell...". I tried to experiment with some new (for me) techniques on that one... (like chipping with hairspray, oil washes, highlighting etc).. didn't turn out a disaster.

It's a shame the faulty assemble of each piece of the model. This not to mention the not elimination of burr, even before painting each piece. The case of the pilot a good example. In spanish we call this "CHANTA"

Every modeler has his/her own interpretation of how the model is built. There is no „right“ or „wrong“ way. The most important thing is, you like it after it’s finished.
If not, get another, do it again.
Yes, the wrong colors put me off at first too, for example. But actually, somehow I like it. He could have painted it in three shades of purple if he decided to, it’s his model.
A very good friend of mine for example never once painted a single model in its original colors ever. He just uses them for his own „head cinema“.
      Let alone some „faulty assemblies“...

    Que chanta¡¡¡ Chapucero que a
l menos hubiera quitado las rebarbas de las piezas, prolijarlas con dremel y/o lija. Una pena la terminacion de cada ensamble, y su pintado
