Fantastic builds. No painting ever looks as good or as real as actual chipping paint. It puts this build over the top. Plus the rivets take it another step higher. FANTASTIC!!!!
Thanks! One thing I've learned though is that you won't really see paint worn down to primer. This is something modelers have embellished a bit with artistic freedom, but from historical references is incorrect. But thanks for your feedback :)
Nice build. One thing I like about some other modeling videos is that when they tell us what paint or materials they are using. Helps me understand the choices you've made and one reason why the final result looks so great!
An ambitious double build so beautifully executed.....great job and wonderful to watch all aspects of your work. So glad you are sharing with us who are in awe of your mastery!!
Great job on them both. The heat of PTO really hammered anything that flew, so all the fading and chipping looks spot on. The FAA bird has a nice fade to it also. Like the pit work, even with a jewelers wax pencil, those small PE pieces are fun. Colored pencils are perfect, no more runs for switches and nobs. Great stuff! Congrats!
I am green with envy. Well done ! 'So cheer up my lads its to glory we steer, etc. Heart of Oak are our ships, Jolly 'Tars are our men, we always are ready.... Steady boys steady.. We'll fight and we'll conquer again and again. You bring tears to this Patriotic Brit's eyes. High 5s. Respects to you.

Bravo! I love the extra fiddly little bits you can do at 1/48 versus 1/72. If the wings won't fold up, what's the point? Nice to see detailing and weathering on light and dark color schemes. Cheers!!
I built two of this kit: one an F4U-1 USMC island-based "Black Sheep", VMF 213 (if memory serves). The other an F4U-2 assigned to the USS Enterprise (CV-6) Yorktown- class aircraft carrier (I do not recall the squadron). Incidentally, who performed your music beginning at 5:00, please?
If you get the chance go to Duxford in England. You will find a stunning amount of WW2 fighters there. The Corsair just stops you in your tracks. It is easily twice the height from the ground of a Mustang. It is a massive and very tough aircraft.
Greetings from Russia! Very cool! Bought bird cage too, thank you for ad so to say... What are you doing on 12:37? How did you manage to highlight rivets with silver?
Nice builds, especially the chipping on the -1! Can you tell me what music is playing beginning at the 5:00 mark, after "Sky Warriors", it was not in the credits?
I have to get hand drills like that. I have all the bits, just no tool. Love the subjects. It is a shame appreciating all the detail is so hard. You need to light it right up to view the inner stuff. I have multiple builds going constantly. It allows things to dry & set up.
First of all congratulations great job !! My name is Christian I am from Argentina I wanted to know if you can tell me the colors you have used for the fuselage, if it is possible, mark and code and if you have mixed the proportions, thank you very much !!!
Hi Christian, For this build I used on the birdcage the following colours: Vallejo Model Air 71.109 M-485 Blue Grey and Vallejo Model Air 71.298 M495 Light Grey On the -U1D I used Vallejo Model Air 71.300 Glossy Sea Blue.
Corsairs are probably my favourite american naval fighter my all time favs are the p-51d, b-17 for england my favs are the spitfire, hurricane, lancaster, english electric lightning
The B-17 is what got me interested in history. The Corsair is one of my favorites because of the ungainly shapes and angles. It's hard to have a favorite though, it's like picking a favorite kid. Your supposed to love them all the same, but there is the one you actually hate less lol
great work !! just one note : I remember that uk corsairs got some visible differences! For instance, WingTips were shortened to accommodate w/ smaller UK plane carrier :) [edit] to be right : smaller lifting platforms. (And yes : the model depicted here, GOT to have british alterations)
@@TheModelGuy - about long wings UK corsairs, it was for land based crafts. This particular "135°X" craft of the KIA Canadian pilot you depict got the 16inch minus wingspan. i.pinimg.com/originals/2d/b2/5f/2db25fd72c0447e4a1cce095c31a58dd.jpg These "corsairs IV" (but previous mk. too) got also on each leading edge wing a "Stall Strip" fitted on. How do you add the ‘wire’ antenna? I used to use black cloth thread, which I could tighten fairly straight onto most of the planes’ antenna rods. But it always LOOKED like black thread! I recently used a 28 gauge wire, painted black, which looks ‘right’, but after numerous attempts to straighten it still looks like bent wire. I can’t tension it any tighter without damaging the antenna rods. Suggestions?
Hello Friend. Congratulations on the excellent work. Please, I would like to know the brand of that wire kit that appears at 3: 50min and used on the engine.
I hate it! I love all your builds and vids, but this one is your worst vid yet. So much of the build skipped over, no voice instruction, and the mystery blue paint used on the exterior? I have always used your vids on wonderful instruction, and with pros and cons of the kit. Paints were always described before, along with mix and percentage of thinner. Hope and pray that the model guy will be back to his beautiful builds and descriptions.
I enjoy hearing you talk, my favorite aircraft
Love your videos when you give history and commentary on the plane. Sets you apart from all the other build videos....
I do love the Bird Cage version and the weathering. Excellent job on both.
pure artwork. well done.
What an awesome eye for detail. Excellent work. I have always loved the Corsair and you have outdone yourself on those two. Very impressive.

I just picked up a trumpeter kit and sure hope I can lay the paint down this well the fade in the finish is spot on.

I'm polishing the clear coat. So the "Silver" is actually polish that's catching the rivets. I came in after with an oil wash to get rid of it

3:30 is that a special pencil you're using or a regular one suitable for paper? Excellent job. I especially liked the weathering.
It's a watercolour pencil. Regular ones won't work.
Thanks for watching!
Hi, I assume that is Kiwi markings, I thought they were more the lighter scheme, but in any case mate bloody well done.
They are the late war Fleet Air Arm markings. The Kiwi ones are definitely lighter.
