I was there. I didn't see you. I should have said hello and introduced myself. But yes, I was not surprised in the least when Fisher just left. He's the only one I really wanted to speak with. Cold and rainy, gloomy day, perfect for the news that drove the stake even deeper into the hearts of A's fans. Cheers!
This deal was already made before the final Oakland meeting. It would explain their nonchalant "thanks but no thanks, we have no future meetings scheduled" attitude. Thanks Sac and the Giants for taking away any leverage the city of Oakland had left. Not the Sacramento A's just Athletics SMH
There's absolutely no way the A's were staying in Oakland. That was set in stone once Kaval said "parallel paths with Vegas". All Vivek did was keep the A's out of Salt Lake City
It's important to realize how vulnerable John Fisher is now. He essentially just gave notice to quit his job but his next job doesn't start for another 4 years and he has to work part-time in the interim. All it takes is a delay in construction, budget revision, or a new referendum for his new ballpark to put him at the mercy of Sacramento, who will take full advantage of that opportunity ($$$$), or others, including Oakland **If you oppose John Fisher, this is the perfect time to act. You can start by supporting the Nevada Teachers Union PAC who is suing the state of NV for allocating state funds for Fisher's new stadium plans.
Vivek wanted the A's in Sac just to show MLB that the city can support an MLB team, no strings attached. He's a Sac booster, not an Oakland booster. Fisher is going to Vegas with the A's. The two expansion franchises will be Nashville and Salt Lake City. I think MLB will consider Oakland to be part of San Fran's territory going forward.
I think the only way SHP gers packed is to see other teams. Once the novelty wears off, it will be business as usual. It will be good that players like Judge are from the 209 so that also is a HUGE name and local celebrity. But other players on other teams, big factor just like Fish and Vivek both mentioned. The whole thing is dirty.
Sad story, but this does happen. I was a Washington Senators fan as a kid of 15 and had my guts ripped out when they moved and became the Texas Rangers in 1972. Ironically the franchise that was in Washington DC since about 1900, had moved to Minnesota and became the Twins in 1961. Washington kept the name, but got an expansion franchise that didn't have a winning record until 1969!. Kansas City A's moved to Oakland in about 1968 and the Montreal Expos moved several years back and again...another team was brought to the nation's capitol in DC, with the Nationals. It always goes back to attendance and money for certain. Look for one of the Florida teams to be next.
Hahaha, you just said MLB. Good joke! You did see how the owners backed Fisher 30-0? And not because they even care one lick about Fisher. It’s because no owner will vote against another owner because they don’t want want to get voted against themselves in the future when they try milk their own cities for free taxpayer cash. Not a single owner cares about the MLB as a whole.
Fisher doesn't even know the names of his own players, so of course he mentions Aaron Judge! Thank you Bud Selieg for bringjng John Fisher to the Bay Area! Manfred is as clueless as you were! Now John Fisher can just sit on his half of the Coliseum property and continue to hold the city of Oakland hostage! It worked in driving the Raiders to Vegas! Funny Fisher doesn't like Mark Davis but he's following them to Vegas......funny
Yes it's all a mess, but the Raiders have wanted out for years and they even came back once from LA, for quite a while. Same with the Dubs. Fisher is an ass for sure, but the pattern wasn't started by him. Oakland bears their share of this terrible situation!
Terrible reporting on Sacramento. Vivek didnt drive the price down. Oakland priced themselves out. Oakland wanted 97 mil which A's currently paying 1.5mil. This team was already packed for Vegas & needed to find a stadium to play in. Sac aint far, most of the bays exodus moved to Sac, there will def be huge support for this team.
I'm an old Rams fan. So I've been through 5 owners and 4 location changes. That was never a reason enough for Me to stop rooting for the Team. As if I'd just switch up and become like a Raiders fan or something. Hell no!
Casey seems to understand very little about the Sacramento market. They will pack that stadium for three years if it means getting a good shot at an expansion team. There are numerous MLB players from Sacramento and the surrounding area, including Aaron Judge (which is why he was mentioned), so attendance wont be an issue except maybe on day games when it's 110+. I don’t know what the upgraded clubhouses will be like, but i know the dugout and tunnels won't be flooded with raw sewage or have possums and rats in them. The stadium wont be any worse than what Toronto played in a few years ago either. Also, dont even compare the A's situation to the Kings...they are not similar. The Maloofs and Seattle blindsided Sacramento. There werent 14+ years of failed negotiations to get a new stadium before a move was announced. There were no negotiations.
Oh please, stop defending Fisher for the Aaron Judge comment. Even if he’s from that area it’s still utterly ridiculous and embarrassing that he mentioned another team’s players. He doesn’t care at ALL about his own team and has proven that over 20 years.

It is totally unreasonable for any city to demand a guarantee for an expansion. There will be a fair competition and no other cities should be disqualified. The difference between Oakland's demand and Sacramento no such a demand is the team will play in Sacramento.
There is a difference. Oakland is two years ahead of Sacramento on stadium/ public funding approvals and the grants they got for Howard Terminal infrastructure will be expended regardless of whether the A's are there or not. If LV falls through and Fisher et al/ MLB "needed" to get this done by 2028, that is a pipe dream for Sacto, even if LV falls apart literally tomorrow. I know Sacto A's fans are not all of the same mind but for those embracing this and if LV does not fall apart, Sacramento only facilitated the long term loss of American League baseball in Norcal. If Manfred wants baseball in California again sometime in his lifetime (thankfully his life as commissioner ends in 2029), whatever city might get it should be at the point Oakland is today. Utah for may be more likely for expansion just because of expediency.
@@PatrickVaughan-qq5wl Side point - LV not falling apart. Funding in place per Dave Kaval yesterday, and it will be documented in the Stadium Development Plan. My only point comparing Oakland and Sacramento was just to say Oakland demanded something that Sacramento didn't. I don't understand how some like Casey and Brodie can believe the demand for guaranteed expansion was reasonable. MLB has a process and several cities are vying, in the west Salt Lake and maybe Austin or Sacramento. The points you made on behalf of Oakland could be used by Oakland to support their bid in a competition with the other cities. But certainly not to stop the competition.
Casey is ranting because he's about to lose his job. Fisher had no problem talking to anyone in the media in Vegas. He won't talk to anyone in the media in the Bay area.
