As a bay area resident, I have stopped going to get fast food completely. What used to cost me $12 is now well over $20. Ridiculous.
Yeah no kidding. You can rarely find lunch for under $20 plus 8.63% tax plus 4-6% SF employee health tax plus tip. Even some coffee shops are charging for a sprinkle of chocolate.

I stopped patronizing restaurants years ago. Most of them offer over-priced garbage anyway, even before the inflated minimum wage.
McDonalds used to be $1 to $5. Now it's $5 to $12. Even at Robeks (smoothie shop) I used to pay $7 and now I paid $11 and I stopped.

Sub teachers, college degree plus more, years of experience, $20.63 an hour was great after 7 years of $110/day. No benefits, of course..

Well it’s just not the high wage for the workers, it’s the much higher prices for fast food. Two hot dogs, one large fries and drink $14.89, when Trump was president this cost me $7 dollars! I worked construction all of my life and for a good portion of it was paid $15 to $18 dollars a hour. We’re talking super hard work, now you can make $20 dollars a hour for flipping hamburgers! Can you imagine standing up for the ceo or shareholders of mcdonalds, taco bell instead of the poor people (in every sense) working there. And also the commenter above should also know that you don't make money because a lot of people buy something, but because they spend a lot. So for a hairdresser fpr example, it's better to have 5 rich clients than 10 poor. He works less, use less products and gets more money. The only side that is losing is the poor person here, but capitalism never cared about them in the first place because they are not "productive".
And if the hairdresser can't nake end meet, either he get new skills to be more marketable thus reaching the higher paying costumers, or he adapts to the law of offer/demand and lower the prices to reach the demand. Their dear free market 101.
This lady doesn’t even have to pay the $20 an hour to her employees. She still raising the price of the food.

One of the biggest problems with this is. People are making flipping burgers a career. The ones that wash dishes. Cook the meals. Make up the hotel room stocked the hotel room vacuum the hotel. These jobs were never meant to be careers. And now prices will skyrocket
So the people who provide those services deserve to suffer? 🤔

In Denmark, McDonalds' employees get a starting wage of $22/hr with 6 weeks paid vacation. Yet, according to the Big Mac Index, Big Macs cost the same in Denmark as they do in the US. Maybe this whole idea that companies can just charge more whenever wages increase has no substance behind it.
Fact of the matter is that there is a maximum price that people are willing to pay for a product, no matter how much they have in their pocket. McDonalds isn't going to get away with charging $20 for a meal, no matter what the minimum wage is.

My heart goes out to her. I understand her frustration. It’s terrible. Problem is that if that employee makes 20.00 a hour they take home 600.00 a week after taxes. Equals 2400.00 a month. Sounds like good pay in other states. The cheapest 1 bedroom apartment in my area is 2014.00. There’s no way you can afford housing and necessities in CA right now. Newsom just continues to make things worse.

4 bucks more an hour is crap. Is she had 20 employees at a 40 hour work week that's only 3200 a month and if you have 20 employees you're making probably upwards of 1 million a year or more. Seems like you have plenty of room unless you are not very successful.

That’s a great plan! I already tried that, they get you anyway. My employer was sent a letter and I got a copy of it. My withholdings are set at single and 0 and I can’t change it. Then my wages were attached to pay it back. So give it a try.
