I've Eaten Only Mac & Cheese for the Past 17 Years, Here's Why

- For most people, eating nothing but mac and cheese seems like a childhood fantasy. But for 20-year-old Austin Davis, who has been eating nothing but mac and cheese for the past 17 years, it’s not a fantasy -- it’s his reality and has become his affliction. For Austin, it’s about much more than just “liking” mac and cheese. Austin suffers from Selective Eating Disorder, also known as Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, an anxiety disorder that’s characterized by the persistent refusal to eat specific foods or refusal to eat any type of food due to a negative response from certain sensory characteristics of that food.
VICE travels to Florida to meet Austin to learn more about the origins of his eating disorder and join him as he embarks on his journey towards recovery.

I hope Austin's mental health has improved. I hope that Austin is doing well, eating different foods, enjoying his diet, and is happy and safe in his life.
Cow's milk is mother's milk.
The female cows are impregnated against their will, raped and killed when they can no longer produce milk like her male babys which are also being killed.
By the way, most people are lactose intolerant because the mother's milk of other mammals is not made for the human body.
The milk is white, among other things, because it contains some pus and blood.
Live vegan instead of cruel!
If you can‘t see animals being killed and tortured for you, what must it be like for the victim?!
Most of you are cowardly speciesists, hypocrites and deniers of reality. Shame on you! Most of the people who send animals to slaughterhouses would be angry if somebody hit a cat.
I really wish they had updates on people featured on this channel sometimes. You can really start to feel for people and then most times, you'll never know if they ended up ok.

When he's twenty and his addiction is seventeen, you know that the problem began not with him but probably his parents...
lmaoo nope. not the parents fault at all. i’ve had ARFID since i was a kid, they would quite literally THREATEN me at like age 6 to put me on FEEDING TUBES IN THE HOSPITAL. but nope. i still wouldn’t eat anything except my safe foods. and they had to go with it because i quite literally would. not. eat. anything else. it’s our faults, and no one can fix it no matter how hard they try. we simply will not eat.
@Emmerich AugustPerhaps it's sensory integrated issues. The guy probably should do food therapy with an occupational therapist. Slowly but surely he may over come food aversion due to texture and/or taste.

@Gavin Bombaci untrue.
This is so real, I have contamination OCD which painfully limited what foods I could eat and caused me to loose lots of weight and become very unhealthy, and I relate a lot to him acknowledging his problem and wanting to get better but struggling to do anything about it. Vibing" is the verb form of the word vibe, which is not yet defined in English dictionaries, however it is in common use. @Katie Giles Diet can have an impact on most people's complexion. Some people are blessed genetically. I've noticed personally with my skin when I drink only soda and eat lots of dairy my skin tends to be more red and I break out. Maybe you are fortunate enough to not have very acne prone and inflamed skin. For some of us it takes more than a few products to fix this and more of a change in lifestyle. We're all different so what I need to maintain a clear complexion may not be what you and others need. Cheer up, and have a nice day!
@Katie Giles ????? food 100% can impact your acne and more specifically it's high glycemic foods and also dairy products....as someone who has struggled with acne for a decade certain foods definitely trigger my acne everyone is different so diet can have no impact on someone's acne while for someone else it can wreak havoc but no one is saying diet is the ONLY determining factor

This is one of the videos that made me finally contact a therapist after YEARS of suspecting something was off with me but not willing to do the work, since I and people around me felt I was "too normal". Regardless I went, and found out not only did I have ADHD but was also mildly autism and depression (probably from all the years not seeking help).
With that said just don't accept any diagnose, it took me time and a lot of different therapists to come to this, but now I feel more stable and happier than ever. Take care of your mental health, as children we are like unwritten books and as we grow we don't really notice the writing.

At least this guy is chill and admits to his problem rather than being a weirdo and denying it.
Edit: Wtf does this comment have 2.3k+ likes???
It's hard to admit to ur problems when your own parents didn't even care about u so u grow up with low self esteem and anxiety. I think people who force people to man up and admit things are weirdos. No t tryna attack you just tryna say my opinion.
Agreed
Ok, so some people are extremely uncomfortable with revealing stuff. So what?
@@vipakat3498 r u defending it or disregarding it.
True
“Insurance companies seem to think that mental health is a luxury.”
Well said, my friend. Well said.
Very true. I don't a lot of people would require a much treatment to physical health if mental hea was better addressed. Ie. Drugs, eating disorders, self-harm, etc
That's what you get with a for profit medical system
Dr. Suess right!?
@@davidtitus3276 so so true. Same problem in every country
i feel better knowing that mental health where I live is like 20 - 15 dollars
oh sorry, I researched about my area and found out it's free but yea I never had a mental illness so I didn't know. it's tax paid i think
I went through the specific diet thing at times from 10 - 14. It seem to coincide with my parents divorce and less supervision. It returned when going through/recovering from IBS/SIBO. It seems to be a mix of physical, mental and social factors.
Would love to see an update on this guy.
He looks exactly what i imagine if mac n cheese is a person.
Shan Sasayaku hhhhhhh. U are what u eat!

Whoa...since you put it like that..
Imagine having healthcare amiright?
I wish he knew his Dad.
@V if you can't accept mental illness and PTSD as a real thing, just say it
He said the insurance companies think mental health is a luxury. Mental health is not a luxury, it’s a disease.
“I’m not a heathen, so I don’t eat with this wooden spoon”
*proceeds to eat it straight from the pan*
Bruh why is everybody saying pan it's a pot right?
Kelan4 2 oof you right
Saves washing up :)
Dudes got standards bro
In his defense, unless you take the time to preheat your bowl in the oven like a restaurant, transferring into a bowl will immediately drop temps and drastically reduce the gooey heavenly goodness that makes fresh Mac n cheese so great in the first place. #macncheesegang
"Do you eat the bush?" Me: Sometimes

Ben David Jesus Christ the ignorance in this comment is astounding
I had velveeta once and it was okay but kraft sharp cheddar deluxe is where it’s at lmao
The fact that he even has to use the same pan, tells me that this is much more of a psychological issue.
