- Dan Janssen has survived on a diet of pizza alone for the last 25 years. Or at least almost only pizza (with a few bowls of cereal every now and then).
We spent a few days with Dan in his hometown of Ellicott City, Maryland and Baltimore to explore where the self-proclaimed "King of Pizza" finds the perfect slice(s). After watching him consume pizza after pizza, we couldn't help but wonder, How is this dude not dead yet? Doctors have even given him a (fairly) clean bill of health, but to Dan, "We're all gonna die. I'm gonna die with pizza in my stomach." Enjoy.

It doesn't matter where his condition came from, if he's shoving that much cheese down his gullet and not balancing it out with veg and water etc, he's going to be dead early, simple as that. Hell if I have a pizza binge I make sure to put extra veg on there, I know its still crap but come on just having cheese and bread, surprised he's not 400 pounds by now his arteries must be blocked to hell and back. He's got a lucky metabolism, but its going to slow eventually.

There is a somewhat depressing undercurrent to this video. The man seems to give of a subtle and yet constant low grade vibe of peevishness or resentment. He never seems to be really excited or happy with much of anything, almost as if he is suffering with low grade depression or a lack of any joy in life.

also how old are you? do you have any concept of money at all? lets say a pizza is 10 dollars like you said at pizzerias. that 300 bucks a months and 3600 bucks a year. on top of cell phone bills, rent, taxes, and any insurances you have to pay, plus putting money away for savings so you can retire one day, also spending it on other things, thats not sustainable. unless you are making real good money you cant be spending money on pizzeria pizza every single day.
also if you factor in the fact that pizzeria pizzas are expensive since they are mom and pop so prices are naturally higher, the amount of money spent is even worse.

Thanks for your comment. I only got 1:13 into the video before I saw this. I was hoping I'd get his opinions on all sorts of different pizzas and get to see them as well, maybe learn some new recipes. Now I won't waste my time on this 15 min video.

This guy has a severe eating disorder. It's sad because he seems like a really nice guy, and his partner is so supportive. I hope he is able to make progress.

Ingredients for the dough is cheap and plentiful, and stable, and cheese is always cheap, plentiful, and stable too. Then whatever happened to be around the house. In modern days it would be a "clean out the fridge" type meal. Salami, some olives, a few different cheeses, thin sliced vegetables, seafood, whatever you've got.

If his doctors have truly not advised him to change his diet, they have done him a complete disservice. His diabetes alone puts him at increased risk for cardiovascular and kidney disease among other health problems. This diet is about the worst diet any person could have.

I go to university and my diet still hasn't changed too much. I have to eat at the cafeteria, but I still get around 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, I get enough protein, take multi vitamins, take fish oil etc. I eat less healthy than I would of if I stayed at home, but the difference is not that huge.

Honestly, people should eat whatever they want. If they are healthy and happy, let them eat it. The other day I saw a woman in her late thirties yelling at this young girl in a parking lot, presumably her daughter, because she ate a Starburst candy. The girl was probably no more than twelve, and yet the mother was saying some pretty vile things to this girl about her weight despite the fact that this girl was not overweight and seemingly healthy. Too many people nowadays measure their self-worth by their waistline. Frankly, I think people like that are sick and they need help.
