Dude heard someone talking about health and took full advantage of the opportunity in front of him. He was the perfect person to talk to and he knew that, glad he was there that day to talk and share his story as well as getting his book more known.
@Gonken88 maybe it's not everyday someone talks about health there, maybe extremely rare, which is why he mentioned it, but could very likely be fake. Even if it is fake, the message is good and still advocating health.

My man just hopped on the scooter and started talking. Had no destination, just a story to tell. LOVE THAT. He came for the WHOLE RIDE!!! Mark being able to do the splits and come back from that? Still coming back from it too?? A legend. We support this.
I feel like they probably planned all this beforehand. Believe it or not all those traveling shows of other countries it was all pre-planned with those people to appear on the show.
Shoutout to the cameraman for continuing to record on your way out of the mall! The disapproving head shake coming from the security guy had me laughing out loud 😂

David is inspiring as you can hear the love and pain in his voice of losing loved ones and wanting better choices for everyone. I like his approach. He doesn’t seem like a food nazi. He seems like just a regular guy who cares.
Love the book the guy wrote to educate kids about diabetes. Sorry to hear he lost family members from diabetes. Good for him for getting healthy. Good for David. 😊
Man, i rarely watch what I eat but I never gain weight. I have lots of muscle and tone and at times ate everything in sight and didn't gain an ounce I never thought about what set me apart from people who get obese and myself, i just eat and eat...and I think 85% of it is I hardly ever eat fried or deep fried things. 90% of what I eat is home cooked by family or me, and here we bake it or pan fry it, maybe with a tiny smear of oil for 1 dish. Lots of soups, beans, roasted and raw veggies. I eat a lot of cheese, but the kinds I eat I looked up and it's not as high calorie as you'd think. The worst things I regularly eat are probably box cereal and milk chocolate. Otherwise an average day is bananas, oranges, raw veggies, wheat bread and homemade jams (still sugar but not a lot of preservatives), raw veggies (love carrots, cucumbers and peas), cheese (least commonly cream cheese) and leftovers, which will mainly be homemade low sodium soups, spiced ground beef dishes, pastas, "Americanized" Mexican (we skip the lard), and for the past 20 yrs my mom automatically cuts half the sugar out of every single dessert item we make from the recipe (except jams). And it's all still plenty sweet. It's sad, because when I travel I eat out and never think twice about what I eat, go homeand there's no ill effect. I rarely go out, I never go or feel hungry, and we try all kinds of spices, dishes, exotic (to our area) vegetables and treats and combinations. AND we save money. People could still enjoy themselves in spades without destroying themselves. I'll have to thank my mom again for the food culture she built in our house. I didn't realize til recently the difference it made
@dflaming1371 have a similar experience with my body, just as a woman & mama to 3y daughter & 5y son.. I'm not much different in my diet, I'm just always the one making meals so that makes me think differently about how my family of 4 takes in their fuel/food. I also absolutely never seem to get off my feet in the majority of the time I am out of bed. So that might have an impact as well. Chocolate milk is the exception btw 😂😂
simple answer: US is the king of making good tasting food that isn't satiating and has no nutrients so you just keep eating. Amount of fat/grease, sauce, cheese, sugar americans use is insane to the rest of the world. USA, due to the FDA, has the worst quality food on earth. Even worse than a poor country in africa or asia due to quantity.

It can happen to anyone bruh like literally anyone even an athlete can turn obese just coz of 1 bad day or several. The real kick in the nuts is people don't know how calories work or heck even what it means like i shyt you not. I actually get response with it like i'm talking about rocket science when all im saying is Eat only what your body needs like your 5'9 so 2k calories and you'll lose weight and they can't process that information so if people actually knew how that worked like factually there will be less obese people like Japan for instance they know it like almost all of em there.
What a blessing to have Dave show up, be able to tell his own experience through the loss of two siblings and tag along to help educate what went wrong in the culture of neglecting our health. And that click when Mark put in that seat belt was such an elation moment, never met him, but I was proud of him and what he was able to accomplish.
I'm an RN working in a hospital in Florida. More often than not, my DM2 patients eat what they want and then use their insulin to lower their sugar levels 😢 I once had a DM2 pt, a fairly fresh postop for a below knee amputation which was preceded by years of infected wounds, bone infections, etc, THROW A URINAL at me because I wouldn't go down to the vending machine to get him a candy bar. Addiction is a helluva thing.
Mark seems amazing, I'm so glad that he stood up for himself on TLC, the pandemic hit everyone hard and it's so cool to see that he's still trying to help himself, I hope the absolute best for him
For sure. What a disappointment. The fact that a person is capable but is just too lazy to walk is unreal to me. As a disabled person, I find this damn near disrespectful. You don't know what you have until you lose it.

Buying this guys book immediately. My mom was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I was 17 years old and presumably already had diabetes untreated for 3-4 years before being diagnosed. Not taking care of herself and having untreated medical problems on top of being a 2 pack a day smoker lead her to having a stroke. I’m now the mom of a 6 year old and I encourage fresh food with every meal and we have our own garden in my backyard. Food is absolutely an addiction. My heart goes out to everyone dealing with diabetes.
Type 2 has a genetic component as well. You can eat healthy and exercise all you want and and still get it. Japan also has the same percentage of diabetes, with 1/10 the rate of obesity. It’s not all food related

My grandmother (Mexican abuelita) lived to 108 - she was poor by US standards and lived on a small self sustaining farm in Jerez, Zacatecas. Her Mexican food (all traditional, handmade, and organic) was nothing like the stuff in these restaurants. Lots of honey, soups, beans, real tortillas, free range eggs and fresh milk - real cheese. They didn’t eat tacos nonstop. She also exercised naturally caring for kids and animals and was never overweight even after 12 kids. We could learn a lot from the people that lived like that. The infiltration of Walmart, Cheetos, coke, fast food, tacos and cheese and sour cream covered huge plates of food has caused a lot of health problems in Mexico.
Yes, if we all ate like people in the 1800s in most cultures whether US, Mexico or here in the UK we would be fine. My great grandmother had 11 children (10 lived) and she was not obese, may be a bit over weight but not obese. She did all the physical work people did in those days and had the usual whole food diet of the day - lots of fish as they lived near the sea etc.
It’s a revolving cycle of the US system not wanting you to be healthy. Fat lazy citizens aren’t bothered to fight against the government. So too, you”re at risk for poor health which funds the healthcare system which funds employers insurance rates. Poor health factors into a lower mortality rate not living to see retirement. In return, pensions, retirement funds aren’t paid out by employers and goes into god only knows where. The same companies that own the healthcare systems are the same ones funding preservatives and fast food industries. Almost everything is one way or another lab influenced in the US food industry and that’s the problem.
@@janesmith9024 Actually, we probably should be eating less than they did! Most jobs are sedentary instead of physical now, which means people are burning significantly less calories a day. You can't really get fat while working a physical job because you burn through absolutely everything you eat, you never get a surplus of energy because you're usually at a deficit.
Here's how u can go 2 heaven. It's no catch & very simple . It's true God doesn't like us to listen to rap/heavy metal/grundge music genres, but if people believe in their hearts 💕 that Jesus Christ is their Savior for their sins, they still go to heaven.

Wasn't aware it was this bad at Mcallen I guess when you're used to obesity thats just everyday I might need to know more places to see the difference Luckily I've lost 30-40 pounds over the last years, so I'm healthier than ever Still long road ahead
The whole RGV is obese, I worked in IT healthcare which included data analytics in that area for 15 years, it’s really bad, eating habits from childhood to adulthood to senior adulthood do not change, and they are suppose too, it becomes easy to go get fast food than prep your own “healthy meals” also the culture with Mexican dinning and Mexican cooking methods don’t help the situation.
In Mcallen, is there many good and safe places to walk, bicycle around? I think living in car centered, car dependent communities definitely are a factor for obseity....I live in NH, and there really is very few fat people, you just don't see much of it. Fast food is uncommon, plenty of safe roads to bicycle and walk along...I can walk to the market, post office, etc from my house....when I was living down south, and in san Antonio years ago, the entire suburbs outside downtown were just car centered subdivisions where you really couldn't walk or bike safely, if at all. The roads just were not set up for it. You were forced to drive to get place to place as nothing was really centralized, either.
Love the children’s book author, what a lovely man with an admirable mission. Pained at hearing his huge losses. Thanks to him and Mark for sharing their stories and messages of hope.
Certain aspects of Mexican cuisine can be considered less healthy due to ingredients like refined carbohydrates, excessive amounts of cheese, and fried preparations. However, many traditional Mexican dishes incorporate fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, offering a balanced and nutritious meal. It’s the choices within the cuisine that determine its healthiness.
It’s not fat that’s making people obese, it’s sugar. If you watch throughout the video, you’ll see that sugar is in every part. Whether it’s pastries, soda, ketchup, etc. It’s also the ingredients that food in America is made with. Example, go look at the ingredients in American made ketchup and Canadian made ketchup. McDonald’s French fries in the US, vs McDonald’s fries in the UK. Pasta made in Italy, and pasta made in America. Other countries won’t import our food the way it’s made here.

I salute Mark for going to the gym and losing all that weight. During the Pandemic I couldn't go to the gym so I bought a bunch of exercise equipment and set it up at my house. Unlike most people, I actually use my equipment regularly. My neighbor's could see and hear me working our every other day. I invited them to use my equipment. Only two actually did, and both quit in less than a minute, both were women. A male neighbor quit without even trying. I've had a few friends reach that lose weight or die point. Every single one of them choose death over exercise and diet. One has actually died, another can't even get out of bed by himself to go to the bathroom, he is under 65. Oh, despite trying to encourage dozens of people to exercise, I've had a zero percent success rate. I know it's not me because at my rec center, I actually ran an exercise class when the coach couldn't make it, and I always got compliments, no complaints.
Same here, i never exercised and about 2 years ago @ 37 years old i started out with a dumbbell set. Now my whole basement is a gym i have everything ill ever need and i exercise regularly.
You sound very critical of these people. I think by the time they accumulated that much fat it must be twice or three times as hard compared to average weight people to lose weight so I am sympathetic of them. The only solution may be surgery. Though I do agree that more average weight people including myself should exercise more. I would use your equipment if you lived close to me but I also have some in my own house.
@user-op8lh8nr8ithey really just need to start walking and then eventually start running. Or some something fun that's encourages movement. I spent the past 7 years barely exercising due to college workload. Now that I am in the work force, I have a lot more time in the weekends, so I started playing airsoft. Now I'm trading fat for muscle and I've been feeling a lot healthier. I have ran around with 30 pounds of gear without much problem.
@user-op8lh8nr8i Not saying it is impossible but I doubt most people have the will power to lose weight when they weigh 400 to 600 pounds and changing your eating habits also require will power. That is why there are "fat camps" for people but those same people go back to their old eating habits afterwards. It is the same way with addiction in western or free democratic countries where people value freedom and privacy so much no one checks up on one another. This is why people with addictions can die from it because there is no sense of community and they have the "freedom" to binge eat.
Those last few clips of you and Mark working out and him putting on a seatbelt again brought a tear to my eye. It’s a beautiful thing to see people dedicated to fitness and health
In my opinion, there is a major factor into obesity in this country that i never hear people talking about. We are living in such an unfulfilling society that for millions of people food is their main source of happiness.
Actually the "finish everything on your plate" goes hand in hand with hearty food. Historically, the people and places where this is predominant were poor, with a lot of physical labor involved. Times have changed, habits have changed, but mentalities did not.
it honestly depends on how much is in your plate the thought of 'finish everything in your plate' works hand in hand with 'take only how much you can eat' a way to avoid food wastage but peeps nowadays are def taking it in the wrong way
That wasn't really a thing though. I always had to finish a part of the vegetables and all the meat. Meat's fine, but an animal needed to die for that. Which is fine for eating, but NEVER fine for wasting. It may not surprise you that in my language, the words for something being wasted, and sin, are the same: zonde
No. It's about serving a reasonable portion you can finish. Wasting food because it looks cool to serve those big plates is dumb. In a lot of countries you get served a normal portion and it's just what you need.
I love how he just casually walks up to a worker in the taco restaurant when she asks "What are you guys doing?" and he basically says "Oh were just showing people that your tacos are murderers!" :D
man mark's story is actually so sad yet hopeful and uplifting just a poor guy who got into a depression and started filling the hole in his heart with food

Mark really is a testament of “Hard Work Pays Off”. Man had a choice between staying the way he was then and accepting an early death, or fighting for a better life and future for himself and he chose the second option. If only more people had that kind of confidence and conviction, maybe this country wouldn’t even have an obesity epidemic anymore. I hope mark is doing well and lost even more weight!
I'm sure that the prevalence of highly profitable junk foods in every corner of the country, especially in poorer areas, has nothing at all to do with obesity. Are you sure, too?
Some years ago, I visited the states for a holiday with my family. We found that the adult portions were almost double the size of portions here in Malaysia or Singapore. We ended up either sharing an adult plate portion, or for more variety, ordered kid-size portion for each of us. Americans don't seem to realise that the portions they eat are literally double or more the size of portions in other countries.
People think that Asians have good health just because they look thin. Actually, some of them are really unhealthy and have diabetes high blood pressure and also heat problems.

The interview with Mark was so cool. I was proud of him on my 600lb life for being hardheaded when nobody believed in him and they all tried to get him to do the surgery. Its a struggle but I'm glad to see he's still putting in work his own way.
I think it's coz he was qualified for the surgery that's why the doctors pushed it. Doctors play with numbers all the time like it's how they make decisions like pros and cons and it's not that the doctors didn't believe in him it's just that he's more likely to succeed if he gets the surgery and less likely to succeed on his own so i won't put the doctors on the bad people list coz most of em are good people and some are just having a bad day and some sure can be evil but those are rare. Mark's way is better in general anyways, strengthening his body is what his body needs to shake the rust off so if his belief that doctors didn't believe in him motivates him then yeah sure since for me anyways i'll take any motivation i can get if i was in his shoes coz i actually was in his shoes once and i took any form of motivation i can get even if it's wrong coz who cares :D. But still doctors aint that bad, they just play the numbers so i'll cut them some slack for me anyways.
For some people the bariatric surgeries are a godsend and it really changes their life, and 20+ years later it's still doing it's thing and they are healthy. For some others it lasts a few years and they figure out how to stretch things back out a bit and graze every moment they are awake and self destruct. I really think that some people genuinely just want to self destruct with food and weight.
Such a heartwarming moment when he celebrated being able to do up his seatbelt, shed a tear. Hope he still doing well, can't be easy but he's choosing life and that's amazing. Tyler you rock, loving your vids

I'm from South Africa. I was thin when I moved to the US. One year later when I moved back to SA, I was technically obese. It's the food, man! I did not change my eating habits at all, I haven't gotten more fat since then, and that was 20 years ago. US food just has more calories per pound than in other parts of the world. Maybe it's the sugar in common food products like bread because...BREAD ISN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE SUGAR!
You’re giving the impression that the U S only has fast food to eat lmao. You gaining weight is on you. You could’ve simply cooked at home gs going out and ate vegetables, fish and chicken. Not to mention health food stores exist and sugar free bread is available.
That's not true... The US uses the worst ingredients than other countries... Take coca cola for example, in the US high fructose corn syrup is used... This is a banned substance in the UK.. So coca cola in the in the UK has came sugar
I have a similar story, my brother went to US for a year for higher studies, came back fatter than ever. He said it's because of all the bacon and easily available fast food. Also he lost all his weight within 2 months after coming back.
Man, there are multiple moments in every one of your videos where I just say "fuck yeah!". The stories you find and the real people that are in them make them come to life. Don't stop doing what you're doing.
Of course you can. Every day is a new opportunity. Don't focus on losing the weight. At all. Focus on changing your lifestyle. Your body will respond in a positive way.
you can do it man! just remember taking small steps is better than not taking any. If i have any advice to give about staying motivated is focus on the positives it gives you (for example you could do 10 push ups and then die of exhaustion, two days later you can do ten push ups and not die of exhaustion). ^Take it with a grain of salt though, what works for me might not work for you

Proper Job's worth security guard right! Need to make it look like he is busy and working. Man, i rarely watch what I eat but I never gain weight. I have lots of muscle and tone and at times ate everything in sight and didn't gain an ounce
I never thought about what set me apart from people who get obese and myself, i just eat and eat...and I think 85% of it is I hardly ever eat fried or deep fried things.

Yeah the authentic stuff shouldn't be this unhealthy.

I might need to know more places to see the difference
Luckily I've lost 30-40 pounds over the last years, so I'm healthier than ever
Still long road ahead
The whole RGV is obese, I worked in IT healthcare which included data analytics in that area for 15 years, it’s really bad, eating habits from childhood to adulthood to senior adulthood do not change, and they are suppose too, it becomes easy to go get fast food than prep your own “healthy meals” also the culture with Mexican dinning and Mexican cooking methods don’t help the situation.
The food in the US sucks. Products that are on sale here have been banned in other developed nations
I was going to correct you and say epidemic instead of pandemic but nah it’s a pandemic.

@@daterxies good for you friend, you should be proud!
Especially when you’re poor
Bingo!
And not even good food
That's just sad
Sir what the hell are you talking about
Actually the "finish everything on your plate" goes hand in hand with hearty food. Historically, the people and places where this is predominant were poor, with a lot of physical labor involved. Times have changed, habits have changed, but mentalities did not.
Definitely not. Even older generation of americans gave up long long ago like my neighbor Maria 😂
it honestly depends on how much is in your plate
the thought of 'finish everything in your plate' works hand in hand with 'take only how much you can eat'
a way to avoid food wastage but peeps nowadays are def taking it in the wrong way
That wasn't really a thing though.

Of course you can. Every day is a new opportunity. Don't focus on losing the weight. At all. Focus on changing your lifestyle. Your body will respond in a positive way.
You for surely do it
you can do it man! just remember taking small steps is better than not taking any. If i have any advice to give about staying motivated is focus on the positives it gives you (for example you could do 10 push ups and then die of exhaustion, two days later you can do ten push ups and not die of exhaustion).
^Take it with a grain of salt though, what works for me might not work for you
I’m 240 ish you aren’t alone. Losing weight is extremely hard. I’ve been on it for years, but the food is just so good.
crazy how people eat out every day
Mark is willing to really put in the work, that is inspiring
He is inspiring ✨️ ❤️
May God bless you 🙏 ❤️ ✨️ all especially if you believe in your hearts 💕 that Jesus Christ is your Savior for your sins (any sin is sin like lying, cussing). He won't condemn u even if u continue to sin after you sincerely believe that He is your Savior. You would just feel bad for sinning.
The sad thing is that no matter what he does he can never return to full health and he WILL need surgery because all of the loose skin will become extremely debilitating.
@@PhilT81 I'd rather u be in heaven with us and God.
Imagine how awful and horrendous it would be for anyone to be 🔥 burning eternally in hundreds 💯 or thousand degrees of fire in hell...one minute, 1 hr, 1 day, 1 wk, 1 month, 1 decade...if humans need da shade or stay indoor during the summer in 90-120 degrees heat, how much worse will burning in hell for those who rejected Jesus Christ during the time ⏲️ when they were alive.
Please 🙏 accept Jesus Christ as your Savior b4 your life ends 🙏
3:54 bro had no fear of getting kicked out. he was being brutality honest
BUT WE'LL BE QUICK LOL
Ugh the seat belt moment got my heart ❤️ I hope you visit him again because somehow you were meant to catch that beautiful moment 💫
The Security Guard 😂😂😂....slowly following them
Also I really appreciated the encouragement in the gym. So proud of that guy
Proper Job's worth security guard right! Need to make it look like he is busy and working. Honestly those security guards in the malls are pointless, they can't arrest you, or physically removal you, all they can do is follow you and call the police and wait for the police to show up. I know if a mall cop security guard physically touched me or tried to remove me I would defend myself.
The chunky security guard following them out the mall, on a Segway, with a scowl on his face, while wearing a helmet, is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen.
mallcops aren't people
They won't need a knee joint replacement that way.
A mall security have to walk 30k steps in 10hrs.
@@khanch.6807 I've been walking like 20k steps on average everyday for the past 3 years and I am built and have no knee joint problems..
I don't even get how that was "pathetic". You're telling me the mall guard should walk when they were using a stroll?
@@zawadsadaf9194 yes lmao
I love that they just picked up a local who’s passionate about the topic and then he was just part of the doc 🤣 s/o to David
Mark... You made me cry when you said putting on a seatbelt made you feel normal. You are normal either way. Our system we have is what is messed up and broken. And when you stick people with not a lot of money in a situation where fast food is your only source of food, its not your fault.
I hope you every bit of success on your journey. You already made it so far. Im glad you are alive and fighting every day. Please stay strong and keep fighting. You got this!
