How you view the pan axis being balanced is so interesting. I was assuming that you'd know the pan axis is balanced by being able to, while having the gimbal parallel to the ground, move the pan anywhere and it'll stay there. How come you say it's balanced while it's sideways?

Hello. Do you know how to attach DJI RS 2 to Black Magic 4K? I just got it and looks like it doesnt fit. I dont understand how to fix it. I cant find any info anywhere. Would be really grateful for any advice
@@JasonRobertsVideo I see :) its ok. I was just so frustrated so did not know what to do. Black Magic 4k is wider than all other cameras and I cant put it completely to the "nest" where you attaching camera to the rail of gimbal.
Oh no :( This thread might help (forum.dji.com/thread-226734-1-1.html) - some people using the 6K - one person says not to use center hole - not sure if the 4k has different holes on the bottom? DJI compatibility page (www.dji.com/au/support/compatibility/rs-2/bmpcc4k) says the BMPCC 4k is compatible with RS 2
@@JasonRobertsVideo thank you for trying to help. probably there is a difference between. but there is no other way how it can be attached. its when you are balancing it you cant move rail forward as it touch axel and there is no room to move it. but anyway. thank you for trying to help. will keep on looking options (compatibility page doesnt work by some reason.)
Great job, just finished balancing. Powered on, I can't get past the language screen. I have it on English, how do I engage that and move on, been trying for an hour, no luck on Google. Thanks.

Jason Roberts quick question: My Canon EOS R with Articulated Screen which I'm always using it opened. Do I need to open it before balancing in this gimbal? Thanks
Hi, yes you should set the camera up the way it will be used before balancing - you should also make sure that the screen won't bang into the gimbal arms otherwise you might damage your camera. Also take the lens cap off and fit any filters/lens hoods before balancing.
@@JasonRobertsVideo i sent it to DJI to repair / replace it , they gave me free overnight shipping , hopefully ill have it back before i have a shoot this weekend ! fingers crossed !!!
Thank you so much for this step-by-step tutorial! I was struggling with balancing the gimbal for the longest time and I managed to figure it out and noticed where I went wrong with your video. Thank you for the detailed tutorial, have a good day! :)
A brilliant instructional video. Well thought out and presented. Enabled me [a complete novice] to get my RS2 perfectly balanced. Thank you so much, Jason!
1. Great video. 2. I turned it on without unlocking the motors!! I'll explain... I just unboxed mine yesterday and was having issues charging it (I was using a QC3.0 adapter and left it overnight... no success). Only when I plugged it into my computer did I start to see battery LEDs flashing (1 bar). Eventually I wanted to turn it on to see what percentage the battery was at and determine if it was actually charging or if it was defective. The problem is I hadn't even gotten far enough along in the set up process (tutorials, user manual, YOUR VIDEO, etc.) to see a warning NOT to turn it on before unlocking the motors!! After solving the charging issue (it charged via the computer and I then bought an Anker PowerPort 2 IQ which works) and moving on, I have seen some strong warnings such as, "one super, super important thing to never ever do..." "is never turn on the gimbal when these are locked into position"... So now I'm low-key panicking that I may have reduced the life of this gimbal!!! What do you think??
Hi Alex, I don't know the answer to if turning on locked will reduce the life of the gimbal, if it's any help I accidentally did this with my RS 2 once
Hey Jason thanks for this video, I'm at a crossroads . . . do I get an RS 2 for my Sony A7Siii or do I buy a Sony A7iii as a second body for the gimbals I already have? Have you used the Raveneye? I'm curious about the Pro bundle. I have a Zhiyun Crane 3 Lab Creators Kit and a MOZA AirCross 2 (paired with Slypod), and both MOZA and Zhiyun refuse to update their firmware for the S3, so I can only use the gimbals in basic mode, but who wants that? I guess I could put them on Gumtree and then deal with the shithead lowballers.
Hi mate, can't answer your first question as it depends on the vids you're making/want to make and whether you need that second angle with a second camera. As for RaveEye, I've got a video in the works about how to set it up and use it with the Ronin app which will be published soon(ish). RaveEye works great and I actually used both the RS 2 and RavenEye when I was filming my first short film (also to be released soon) - it was such a great tool if you're filming yourself on your own as it gives you more creative options - stay tuned more vids to come!! :)
@@JasonRobertsVideo Hey Jason I'll trade you your RS2 and RavenEye for my Dynamic Perception Stage One 3-axis with 6 x 50cm carbon fibre rail kit, cost me A$5K a few years back, I'm in Gosnells if you want to see it first
@@JasonRobertsVideo It's really well made, and I mean really, it's machined aircraft-grade aluminium and carbon fibre. Extremely modular too, so you can carry a single axis and one pair of 50cm rails up the mountainside, or you can join as many rails together as you want and have a full 3 axis on demand, but with a heavier backpack. I'm happy if you want to borrow it for a month or two, I would love to see what you do with it, it's a shame I don't get to use it to the potential it has.
Interesting that the Owner's manual says to lock everything up (p.4) and then next to turn it on in order to activate with the Ronin app. I did that before I found this tutorial. Hope I didn't ruin my gimbal!
