Hey, just a couple of radio-related tips from an electronics engineer. 1) The dual antennas should be perpendicular to eachother for maximum effectiveness. Antennas are polarized, not unlike sunlight (think polarizer filters!), so having the antennas at 90 degrees to eachother means that when one antenna is picking up a weak signal the other will be picking up a strong signal, and vice versa. 2) The suggestion to turn off Bluetooth is because WiFi and Bluetooth are both 2.4GHz and use the SAME antenna in your phone. This is actually impossible to do, so what it means is that your phone is having to constantly toggle between using that antenna for Bluetooth and WiFi, which is incredibly unreliable (especially on Android phones, some more than others). Turning off Bluetooth for just one app like you suggest doing in the video has no effect on this at all (it's essentially just a privacy setting) - you must turn Bluetooth off for the entire phone.
Hey there Richard, thank you for a more in-depth response! I really wonder about the bluetooth setting for just the Ronin app or just turning off bluetooth in general - it does seem to make a difference on my iPhone. I understand from a technical standpoint that it might not make sense but I wonder if apple is doing something tricky to actually shut off bluetooth? Or if its not "actually" shutting it off, but denying permissions to single apps? This is above my pay grade but thanks for bringing that up! I love knowing things like this! Thanks for the great insight and watching
@@keith-knittel My guess would be that when BT is left enabled for the app, that the app tries to connect to the gimbal automatically or at least tells iOS that it may want to use BT, and that causes the difference you see. I'm pretty sure that even with BT disabled for the app, if you had another app in the background using BT or were using BT headphones (which is possible as BT is still enabled on the phone) that you'd see the same or worse degredation. It's hard to say for sure as it's all behind-the-scenes stuff, and Apple does change the behaviour quite frequently between iOS versions as it can have a large impact on battery life. If I get a RS2+RavenEye, I'll have to do some testing!
Honestly that’s the best laid out tutorial video I’ve seen for Raven Eye. You are so correct that information is thin and anyone else doing a tutorial has left out important information and steps. Congrats on doing this very well. One question, I have Sony cameras, too, but always use the multi cable for control and not USB C. If you buy a Ronin S control cable for Sony from DJI, for example, it comes with the micro USB for multi. It’s working for me with multi input on RS 2. I’ll experiment and try the USB C to see what happens and let you know.
Okay Keith, just tried replacing the USB micro or mini into the camera with USB C and I lost all control. I’m using a new a7siii and tried your tip of controlling with PC and not mass storage, but all I got was image edge coming up on the monitor with a choice of MTP or USB. I couldn’t get anything to work and eventually went back to the multi plug in and everything was fine again. I know my A73 and A7R3 also work with the multi input for record start, etc. I don’t get ISO, shutter speed and aperture in Ravens eye in the DJI app. Are you getting this additional control?
Hey there Jack - I this is the experience I've been going through as well. I'm thinking about making another video addressing the RS2, how to rig it up, which cable to use and the drawbacks of using each cable for a7iii's and an a6400 (those are the cameras I have). Lots of trade offs based on camera and even resolution.
@@keith-knittel I think that's an excellent idea as I am reading about lots of confusion out there. I was on support with DJI as my zipper on my case broke and I need replaced. While I was on I sent them a link to your video and they appreciated it and thanked me as they realize there is a lack of information on the Raven's Eye and they want to address it.
Just bought the RS2 Pro combo and WOW...your video literally saved me hours of frustration!!! The DJI Ronin app was about 1/10th as useful as your video. DJI should just link this video in their app for support.
Thank-you again! 🙏 Just set-up my RS2 and RavenEye last night, and it was all so confusing (and this is my first gimbal). But after making All The Mistakes you talk about, I was able to get Active Track working thanks to you. The whole reason I got this was to film *myself*, and finally I can! Again, I’m grateful for this video 🙏🤗
It can be pretty confusing but glad to help you out! I had a ton of trial and error when I set mine up for the first time! Thanks for the kinds words and have fun filming!
I recommend using the Andycine think HDMI cable going from the camera to the field monitor/atomos ninja/smallhd monitor. It takes the tension off the gimbal. I had that issue when I used a normal HDMi cable (like you said, hard to cable manage and tugs on the gimbal).
Running an hdmi from your camera to the in of your monitor, then monitor out to the raveneye will allow you to use the monitor and raveneye at the same time! Lots of cables but it works!
Thanks for the video. I am using A6400 on RSC2 and i have some problems. Connections ok but raveneye on phone started to display camera view too much laggy. I changed wifi signal type but nothing happened. At the start, it was very fluid but it became laggy suddenly and i couldn't solve the issue. Secondly, record button on gimbal does not function. I unchecked the record button in the display of Raveneye but nothing happened again. It's indicated that a dedicated cable is needed to make a timelapse but i couldn't find this cable either in the box.
Very cool. Original "instructions" - if you wanna call that that way - suck. What would we do without you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of RS2 with us !
Hi! I work with a Sony a6400 and recently bought RSC2 and Raveneye. I've already managed to connect and have access to control the camera's gimbal, tracking and REC. However, I can't change the aperture, speed and ISO parameters (they are set to "0"). I replaced the accompanying cable (sony multi) with the micro usb cable, in this case I can change the values but when starting to record (REC), the image is black on the smartphone and on the display. I've checked everything and I don't know what it can be. The settings are like Remote PC and HDMI Auto output. If you know what it can be, thank you.
I had all the correct cables connected between RSC 2 + Sony A7iii + Raveneye. Everything was perfectly working from Ronin App (iPhone 11), including Active Tracking + all camera settings (RSC2), directly from Ronin App. I am not sure if after latest firmware updates, but same setup, but when I connect Raveneye to Ronin App (iPhone 11) or when I get RSC2 out from sleep mode, I get a black screen, though start/stop and camera settings still working from RSC 2 as Raveneye is actully connected to Ronin app. As soon as I put RSC2 to sleep, I DO actually get live view in Ronin App, but it is only recording to my phone and active tracking does not work.
This could be if you're using the USBC camera control cable? What happens if you don't use a camera control cable, does the screen still go black after waking from sleep mode?
Fantastic video> Question if you are still checking these older videos. I have the RSC2 combo that has Raveneye. When I start tracking, it the gimbal starts moving side to side. It starts fine, then starts tacking off panning side to side until I have to grab and hold on while it loses track Love the gimbal and dont want to return it, but I got it specifically for the active tracking. I have tried three different Canon cameras and turned stabilization off, rebalance, recalibrate etc. Any ideas?
@@keith-knittel Man, before every shoot I forget how to assemble the RS2 in the right way. Then I panic. And then I come back to your video. And everything is fine. Thanks for helping me in these situations
Brilliant vid and really helped get my RS2 and RavenEye working with my S1 Glad I didn't have to rely solely on the DJI quick start guide that although "correct" leaves a lot open to interpretation One small glitch that I came across is a limit on what resolution can be filmed and sent over HDMI at the same time Therefore you can have everything setup & show in the app, but the image freezeses as soon as you press record To resolve this you need to reduce the video quality for it to work I have only tried this on my Pansonic Lumix S1, but reading a few other forums it seems to be an issue on the Sony A7 as well It looks to be a restriction set in the camera, so hopefully will be resolved in firmware updates
Have ordered the rs 2 pro combo and can't wait to get it. Great to be watching all your content in prep and sure I'm gonna be tapping into all your knowledge when I get this!!
Have the same camera and had no issues getting everything to work correct. The only thing I can see in the future that might really help this setup is to have zoom control.
Thanks for letting me know, Cody! I tend to only hear from people when something isnt working. Nice to hear it's all working for you - zoom control would be nice. I haven't needed it yet, but I do have the focus motor too that could work with zooms. I tend to shoot mostly on primes for my shoots recently though. Thanks again for commenting and watching
Hello, Congrats on nice video. With/without RE, I cannot record from record button on RS2. Only on iPhone through app. Record button shows iPhone-icon and can't change it. Footage saved on iPhone (cache). Cables connected properly but app says cam ctrl cable disconnected. Any suggestions on how I can enable recording from gimbal and save on my BMPCC4K? Thanks a lot !
Thank you so much Keith! Really helpful stuff... I'm totally new to gimbal work so maybe I'm just doing something wrong?! But when switching to "movie" mode on the camera dial (A7III) the screen on the phone turns black (no image). When A/S-Mode or whatever I get a live image. But without face recognition... Do you have tip for that?
Hey there Andreas, glad I could help! The A7III doesn't support face detect af while recording using HDMI out (any HDMI out, not just the RavenEye) As for the black screen, what are your settings on your camera and which cables are you using? Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Hey! I'm having the same problem here! Any solution to this?? Sony a7m3+Usb-c to Usb-c, camera settings are all the same to this video. Thanks in advance!!
Great thank you. I am considering buying one and it's really helpful to know how to avoid issues even when correcting to what seems like a valid port. Is there really no documentation on this, and just something you had to experiment with? Of course they may have fixed this in the meantime. One of the perks of buying slightly older gear as I have (given the RS3 pro has been out a year)
Super helpful video!! I have one question: Why not connect the usb c port from the camera with the usb c port from the raveneye? I saw an official dji video video where the person connected it that way, but this didn’t work for me. The way you do it seems to be the right way. I still don’t understand why the official video does it differently and what the usb c port that is next to the hdmi port on the raveneye is used for.
Thanks for the kind words! I have not idea why the official documentation is t correct - but in my testing, almost every camera has a different way of working and this is mostly due to the limitations of the camera, not the gimbal. That’s what led me to making this video in the first place, i was having a tough time getting my settings correct in each of my cameras. Glad this video helped!
If you’re still stuck, check out my “common problems with Sony cameras and the rs2” video, even if you do t have an rs2 this could be helpful for connecting everything
Hi Keith - I just came across your RS2 videos and you've absolutely nailed it mate! You could give DJI a few good tips on how to create educational videos for their RS2 !!!!
Great video which covers most of the issues I came across - wish I had seen this first. I have one annoying problem. Having attached the RavenEye I cannot balance the gimbal from the app when connected using the RavenEye (Wifi) connection. Frustratingly that means that you have to disconnect, enable BlueTooth, connect and balance and then disconnect BT and connect via Wifi. Am certain I'm missing something but cannot find what the problem is. Would be good to have HDMI passthrough to route onto a recorder and still retain the remote camera controls and record full resolution.
What camera, camera settings and control cables are you using? Are you able to balance the camera while using the RavenEye at all? You should be able to balance this with the raven eye even if you're using a heavy lens / camera. Thanks for watching and the kind words, Ian!
@@keith-knittel - I should have said the Balance check in the app, not balancing. Have just moved up to an R5 but couldn't use my Ronin S fully. I just couldn't get it The Balance check to run when connected via RavenEye - Kept getting "Connect to the gimbal' even though it was in fact connected. I think the app got itself confused. Done the whole setup again and it works now. Suspect temperamental software. The sequence in which you connect is probably the cause. Got to remember to connect via WiFi and then connect RavenEye turning off BT along the way. Complicated and not intuitive. A minor glitch when considering the whole package.
@@ianflint4610 Ahh yeah - that would do it. I haven't ran into that problem, but I'll try it out and see if it has that issue. Thanks for the heads up!
Hello, thanks for your videos which are very useful well explained, the gimbal the raveneye and the camera are well connected with the right cables but when I want to activate 'Active Track' I cannot see what I have framed on the small monitor of the dji ronin rs gimbal 2 pro combo. how should i do?
If using the vertical mount for the camera, does the raveneye have to sit ontop of the camera in the cold-shoe? or how does that work? i didn't see a way to mount the raveneye elsewhere. Could you advise? Thanks!
Really helpfull video, thank you! A silly question perhaps, but do you need to be connected to a network to use active track? We love safari and network is not always available
Keith, thank you for your pleasant and clear guide. I recently bought a Sony A7SM3 and the RS2 pro combo. I get the RS2 working on the app, i get the image from Raveneye on my Samsung. That is as long as i dont connect another cable from my camera to te top port of the RS2. When i connect cable from top port to 'multi' on my camera, The RS2 responds with shaking for a tenth of a second and my camerascreen goes black. When i connect the top port to the usb-c on the cam the image on the cam goes black, but no shaky response from the RS2. Problem could be that i only get 3 options in the USB connection menu: Auto, Mass Storage and MPT. Not any of the settings work. I have the latest firmware on the A7SM3, but that doesnt give me a 'pc-remote' option either. What i'm doing wrong? Hope you can give me clue? spend a small weekend on this..Thanks very much for your attention! J.
Hey j - I don’t have a a7siii to test this with, but I’ve never experienced this. Can anyone with an a7siii chime in here if they’ve experienced this? Sorry I can’t help you with this
thanks for the detailed write up. any idea what the range on the active track is? trying to figure out if it can film me from further away (like 40-50 ft). thanks!
Hey there Evan, the range for active track is very lens and movement dependent. I wouldn't rely on this as a completely remote camera operator, but for help filming things and keeping them in the frame it can be helpful. I use it for filming objects, but as far as setting it up and filming and taking the place of a camera operator.. the tech isnt there yet in my opinion. It's getting better, but not as good as the drone active tracking yet. Hope that helps! I have another video about the RS2 and raveneye that goes into a little more detail on my channel. "Common problems with the RS2 and Sony cameras" I'd link it here but sometimes UA-cam blocks links for whatever reason
@@keith-knittel Thanks, I'm filming a lot of kitesufing, and I want to see if it can track me back and fourth as I'm kiting, but it sounds like its not there yet. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
I am just curious about in what fps and resolution does the raveneye transmits… tried to find it everywhere but couldn’t get help about this specific thing..
Trying to hook a rs3 up to Raveneye. Active track just isn’t working (funny because it did for about 10 minutes). Don’t know what I did but now all I get is the the green box. It tracks me but no gimbal movements. Frustrated
Super helpful info. I have a problem I've run into with the raven eye. I'm on a sony a7iii using the cable setup you've shown here. My active track works until I hit record - then every screen goes black, the transmission on the phone, the camera LCD, and the gimbal LCD, and the active track stops work? Any ideas what is going on here?
Hey there Joseph, the A7III screen goes black while filming using the USBC cable - try using the micro camera control cable, does the screen still go black? You're going to lose the ability to change your camera settings though. Thanks for the kind words and watching!
@@keith-knittel That did it!!! And I was ready to return the darn thing. Much more helpful than DJI's own resources. It's so odd about the need to use different cables for different things with the A7 III.
@@eternalstories1 Glad that helped! Yeah, a lot of small weird things like that with the A7III, my main gripe is the lack of face detect af in video while using HDMI out. But it's still a great camera!
Thank You man for this video, I've set up everything like You show, but I have this issue I can't see live view on my phone but I can operate the gimbal by moving my phone. The live view only shows when I put the gimbal into sleep mode. What can be a problem here?
Hey ! Is it possible to have connect raven eye and camera control in the same time ? When i have preview on my phone , i can`t press rec button on my gimbal or change iso on front dial. I use sony multi cable but when I put usb c to usb c in camera i have info about iso aperture but i don`t have camera preview. Only black screen... I use rsc2 and A7 III
I cant say, as I don't have a C200 - but feel free to send me a c200 to test out! Haha. Sorry I can't be of more help, maybe someone can comment here with more experience with the C200 + RS2?
Sorry if that was already answered but why you didn’t use a multi cable that is dedicated for Sony ? Any advantages when you are using a C type cable ?
I do t always use one cable over the other - it’s based on what your shoot needs. Definitely check out the camera compatibility list and see the features you need. Sometimes I don’t use a cable at all. Thanks for watching and commenting
Hi Keith do you confirm me that with raveneye the usb c camera input is used by it ? In the situation isn't possible to connect external hard drive. Tks
Hi Keith, when I connect my A7iii following your instructions, the screen in my Ronin app goes black. But if I remove the usb-c cable I can see the image again. Do you know why it is happening? Thanks
Hey there Roberto, that’s my experience with the a7iii and the RS2 with usbc- using the micro cable will allow you to see the feed but not allow you to control the settings
Is there a way that I can playback videos i recorded in pc remote mode hooked up to the gimbal? My a7c does not allow me to play playback on the camera when in pc remote mode hooked up to the gimbal
*Keith I need assistance* How do I charge the raven eye from the gimbal battery itself I cannot find a video on UA-cam on how to do it I was able to do it before the firmware and gimbal update but now I'm left to using a USB charger which I don't want that was the whole purpose of the gimbal to suck up some battery from it to use towards the raven eye.
Hey Ben, what firmware are you on? Your rs2 should charge your raveneye while it’s on. Make sure the gimbal is on and in the correct port from the rs2?
This video could not have been better timed! I have the RS2 with A7Siii with a 16-35mm GM. HDMI (Sony) to mini HDMI (Raven Eye). USB-C (Raven Eye) to RS2 (bottom USB-C). When I try active track, I’m able to draw the green box but as soon as I move, it veers right (never following). Thoughts on what I’m doing wrong?
I had this happen and the USB-C from the raven eye to the RS2 wasn't in the correct spot or the cable was bad. You're still able to see the feed but active track just doesnt work. Very frustrating! Have you got it working?
@@keith-knittel funny enough, I was having issues with it drifting and realized the app was set on portrait and not landscape. As soon as I did that, it has worked great!
@@michaelrodnick7223 Ooh man, interesting. Thats a new one, thanks for letting me know! Will mention that to people in the future if they're having that problem. What phone do you have it you don't mind me asking? Android? iPhone?
There is a link to the camera compatibility lists in the description. On my A7iii the only way to control ISO is with the USB-C cable. I'm hesitant to make a video about configuring specific cameras since the firmware and compatibility can change frequently with these new products - I'm left a link to the most up to date info on the DJI site regarding camera compatibility
You can buy you'd have to use a HDMI from your camera, to the monitor HDMI in, then from the monitor HDMI out to the RavenEye. That seems like it's going to be a large rig, but some shoots my require something like that! Thanks for the kind words
I don't have my RS2 in front of me right now, but I'm not sure you have that fine-grain control like you do on your camera. The app has it's own set of zebras and I'm assuming when you see the zebras, you're over exposed. If youre using log and need 105% or a specific zebra, I would not rely on the raven eyes zebras and only trust your camera for that. Thanks for watching and commenting
can we use Reven eye for streaming video from computer to ipad screen ? i mean do it support HDMI video signal from non-camera device ? i want to use it with atem mini to my ipad pro thanks for answering
Very interesting question, Lysong - I'm not sure the Raven Eye is what you're looking for though. The RavenEye transmits the signal from the HDMI source (camera) to the iPad. This wouldn't work for streaming an iPad wirelessly to an Atem Mini. Interesting question though, thanks for asking!
@@keith-knittel I mean , Blackmagic Atem Mini have an HDMI output to external monitor , I don’t want to buy monitor so I just want to use my iPad Pro as monitor Can I use reven eye to transmit signal from blackmagic atem mini to iPad ? Thanks for replying ;)
@Lysong .Photos You _could_ do it, but adding the RavenEye to transmit the feed doesn't seem like the most elegant solution. You'll have to keep the RavenEye charged at all times to ensure the feed stays up. And you'll be using an app that was designed for video cameras to display a feed that should be "clean" and not have any other options around it. If you already have the RavenEye... you could try it, but I wouldn't recommend buying the RavenEye specifically for this use case. What is the reason you don't want to use a monitor? You could buy a computer monitor for cheaper than the RavenEye costs total. Is this a mobile setup or something that wont be in a single location?
Can you use the raveneye without the gimbal only for wireless hdmi? For example on a shoulder rig? Does it have its own battery or is that power supplied by the usb c port? If it has its own battery, how long does it last?
Hey Shane, the raven eye has its own battery. Lasts about 3.5 hours. Takes 2.5 hours to charge. Not the most elegant hdmi transmitter option (it requires an app) - but if you already have the raven eye, it’s a great additional benefit
Hi, I have a problem. I have the Sony A7S ii and when I shoot in HD, the footage is both transmitted on the camera screen and my phone (via the RavenEye). The problem occurs when I shoot in 4K, namely the camera's screen goes black everytime I press the REC button. Any ideas how to fix it?
Dumb question...is there any way possible to have the RavenEye connected and working while also using an external monitor (also needing an hdmi port)? And would know if the DJI app for the RavenEye does anamorphic de-squeeze?
Just to be sure, you've to plug the hmdi from the RavenEye to the cam, and the USC C from RavenEye to what? (I run a Lumix FZ300 with Micro HDMI (*3), sortie AV (PAL/NTSC), USB (multi USB/AV) there is as ports) Thanks in advance Edit: My cam isn't in the compatibility list
I got confused at around the 9 minute marker. I am having the issue with the active track (not on the RSC2 but on the newer RS3). Everything is set up correctly, I am getting a feed, joystick and Force Mobile works perfectly. The only thing that doesnt work is activetrack. I can mark and select the subject but the gimball does not follow. Do you have any suggestions to fix this? Seems like someone had this issue with the RS2 but I could not follow what you said on this.
I had the same issue, but I think I found a solution. Turn on Force Mobile and Activate Track simultaneously. Then turn off Force Mobile. It works for me.
Thanks for the Video, I am having issues with the RavenEye when using my A7III in 4k the RS2 states it is not connected with gimbal or camera HDMI port. This also does not show a live feed on the app. However, when in 1080p 120 and 60 everything works as it should without issue. I have followed the steps precisely and use all cables that come with the RS2. Do you have any idea's?
Hey there Anthony, I went down this deep rabbit hole with my video titled "Sony camera issues with the DJI RS2 & RavenEye" I'd link it here but I'm on my phone. It's a limitation of the camera, but watch that video and it will explain it in more detail
Thank you a lot for the video. I am considering buying a small video transmitter for the RS2 (which I already have), so the Raveneye might be an option as it seems quite small too, but I have a question. If you connect everything but the usb c cable from RSS to the camera, the Raveneye will at least send a video signal, or it needs the double connection (hdmi and usb-c) with the camera necessarily? My camera Blackmagic needs the usb-c port and I only need to send a video signal, no tracking or other fancy stuff.. Thank you in advance for the answer, man!
Dear Keith , dear ALL what fps does it transmit? If i shoot FHD 60 fps or 120 fps does it work as well? I am excited about Raveneye, because it completely replaces and quit the need of any control monitor - is there any limitation regarding fps? Thanks a lot, your feedback is much appreciated 😊
Hey there Edward, I’m not sure what FPS the Raven eye transmits fo the app but while recording 120 FPS on my a7iii the raven eye works as expected. You’re not able to record 120fps in the ronin app, the app is more for monitoring or low-resolution recording. Good question and thanks for watching
I don't have a 5D mark iii, but be sure to check out the link in the description for the camera compatibility as far as the camera control cables are concerned. As for just using the camera, the 5D should be able to be used no problem with the RS2. Thanks for watching!
Would appreciate if you help me out with this question. Does the Raveneye work with any cam that has an HDMI or it has something to do with the camera settings and options. I'm trying it on canon 700d, all functions and features are working fine except for the live stream to the phone. Raven eye shows the blue light but no streaming. I tried everything related to the wire connections, camera settings (there isn't much on the 700d but I turned on in the HDMI option in settings and changed the video resolution. hope you can help. Thanks, Tia,
Hey there, sorry but I don't have a canon camera to test any of this out with. Does anyone with a canon have any help here? Thanks for watching though and hope you resolve your problem. I made a sony setup video that may help some? Not an exact apples to apples video, but it might have some overlap there?
@@keith-knittel Thank you for your reply, I contacted Dji support but not getting any useful info. The cam is a bit old though I know someone with the same model using it with reveneye without doing any special settings or so. I'll let you know if I find a solution. Thanks, Tia,
I have never needed to manually select a frequency before, so I have not tested that feature (or knew it existed, honestly) I'll try that next time I'm using my RS2. Sorry for the late response, and thanks for watching
As a Canon R5 user, I’ve been constantly getting the red light. I’ve tried all the cables. The part I’m stuck on is connecting to the Raveneye wifi. It shows yup but it won’t connect. I’ve connect successfully once but then it disconnected when I hopped onto the app.
Depends on your camera and control cables you’re using. With the a7iii you’ll need to use the usbc cable to control camera settings. Thanks for the kind words and watching
Question 🙋♂️: is there a way to daisy chain Raveneye with HDMI field monitor and camera so I don’t have to use my iPhone as the only monitor?? I have an entire rig that’s ring shaped
Hey there - I'm making a follow up video soon that I'll rig up my Ninja and the RavenEye on the RS2 with my A7III, do you have any additional questions or things you'd like to know how to do for that video? Thanks for watching and commenting
Do you have to have Raven Eye to use tracking on the RS2. Example I’m following a bride and want to track her ( keep her in the center of my frame ). Do I need Raven eye for that? Thanks
I don't have any examples of RavenEye tracking on my channel. I'm making more videos about the RS2 in the future though so if that's something you'd like to see, let me know! As far as keeping a bride in the center of the frame, that would be a great option since the RavenEye keeps objects in the center of the frame
@@keith-knittel hi Keith, thanks for your reply . I think you misunderstood my question. Do you have to have raven eye for the RS2 to track or follow a subject. The example I gave was like you are following a bride . If I’m follow a dog and the dog turn to the right does the RS2 rotate my camera to the right. Or does my camera just keep facing follow if I personally don’t turn it. Thanks again
@@kcstocks2004 The RavenEye + RS2 will follow the subject, you don't have to turn the gimbal. You could put it on a tripod, use the RavenEye and the camera would follow the subject tracking left to right. For slower-moving subjects like a bride that will work well

The best videos over the RS2. Especially about the cables.
Thanks for the kind words, Magnus! Glad it was helpful!
Just bought the RS2 Pro combo and WOW...your video literally saved me hours of frustration!!! The DJI Ronin app was about 1/10th as useful as your video. DJI should just link this video in their app for support.
This took me a long time to figure out, so I decided to make a video about it. Glad to help! Thanks for watching
Thanks a lot for this video. Wrong USB slot spoiled two days of my life. Now the problem is solved.
Glad to help! It's a really easy mistake to make (I made it a lot before making this video)
You can use your Ninja V, or equivalent by running an HDMI cable from the Ninja's HDMI OUT to your camera. This is where Keith showed at 1:40
Running an hdmi from your camera to the in of your monitor, then monitor out to the raveneye will allow you to use the monitor and raveneye at the same time!
Waiting to receive my RS2. I have saved this video (among a few others) for when I get it. Thanks heaps mate, great job!
Congrats on the new gimbal! Hope I can help, I have a few other videos about the rs2 as well!

For the A7S III, you have to use the Sony multi cable on the micro usb. Record button and autofocus works this way.
Thanks for the info about the a7s iii, Roy!

Please for Canon 80 DB rs2 set UP wifi
Hello there, unfortunately I don't have access to a Canon 80d - only Sony cameras
@@keith-knittel ☹️ thank u sir..
Can you show some of us how to mount iPhone13 Pro Max? I have my New Ronin DJI RS2
@@keith-knittel I was perfectly controlling ISO and focus from gimbal. If I disconnect USBC video will be recorded to iPhone cache.
In my ronin app I can’t connect both a gimbal and reveneye at the same time can someone help me please
OMFG THANK YOU. Couldn’t figure out the raven eye and this helped
Youre welcome - glad I could help!
Any ideas?
I'm using the A7Siii. It's a regular HDMI output slot on the camera. What cable do I need to use to connect to the Raveneye?
Danke!
Danke schon!! Glad it was helpful and thank you so much for my first super thanks! 🙌
@@keith-knittel Man, before every shoot I forget how to assemble the RS2 in the right way. Then I panic. And then I come back to your video. And everything is fine. Thanks for helping me in these situations

Great videos for RS2 newbies. Thanks Keith, keep on the good work!!!
Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the kind words and watching!
Brilliant vid and really helped get my RS2 and RavenEye working with my S1
Glad I didn't have to rely solely on the DJI quick start guide that although "correct" leaves a lot open to interpretation
One small glitch that I came across is a limit on what resolution can be filmed and sent over HDMI at the same time
Therefore you can have everything setup & show in the app, but the image freezeses as soon as you press record
To resolve this you need to reduce the video quality for it to work
I have only tried this on my Pansonic Lumix S1, but reading a few other forums it seems to be an issue on the Sony A7 as well
It looks to be a restriction set in the camera, so hopefully will be resolved in firmware updates
Have ordered the rs 2 pro combo and can't wait to get it. Great to be watching all your content in prep and sure I'm gonna be tapping into all your knowledge when I get this!!
Thats awesome Matt, glad to help out! By now, I'm sure you've gotten your gimbal. Hope it's all going well! Thanks for the support

I have a same problem with a7r m4, i tried usbc-usbc and usbc-miniusb, i have a black screen with both of them.
Great thank you. I am considering buying one and it's really helpful to know how to avoid issues even when correcting to what seems like a valid port. Is there really no documentation on this, and just something you had to experiment with? Of course they may have fixed this in the meantime. One of the perks of buying slightly older gear as I have (given the RS3 pro has been out a year)
Great video. But I have a issue, I couldn't connect raven eye to my phone its showing couldn't connect!

Wow - thanks for the kind words! Sorry for the late reply, but glad you came across my videos! Glad to help and thanks again!
hi, what's the range of the transmission system, how far can I monitor the footage, and is there any delay?
And how do you use the raveneye with the camera in an upright position?
Hello, thanks for your videos which are very useful well explained, the gimbal the raveneye and the camera are well connected with the right cables but when I want to activate 'Active Track' I cannot see what I have framed on the small monitor of the dji ronin rs gimbal 2 pro combo. how should i do?
If using the vertical mount for the camera, does the raveneye have to sit ontop of the camera in the cold-shoe? or how does that work? i didn't see a way to mount the raveneye elsewhere. Could you advise? Thanks!
So my screen is going blank when I plug the HDMI in the Raven eye. It is making this set up unusable for me sometimes it does work though it's weird
Hope you can give me clue? spend a small weekend on this..Thanks very much for your attention!

thanks for the detailed write up. any idea what the range on the active track is? trying to figure out if it can film me from further away (like 40-50 ft).
@@keith-knittel I mean , Blackmagic Atem Mini have an HDMI output to external monitor , I don’t want to buy monitor so I just want to use my iPad Pro as monitor
Can I use reven eye to transmit signal from blackmagic atem mini to iPad ?
How do I switch joystick tilt direction. Currently in Game mode. I want airplane mode.
I've been asked this a few times, I'm going to include this in my next RS2 video - setting up a monitor with the RavenEye. Thanks for watching!
Just to be sure, you've to plug the hmdi from the RavenEye to the cam, and the USC C from RavenEye to what? (I run a Lumix FZ300 with Micro HDMI (*3), sortie AV (PAL/NTSC), USB (multi USB/AV) there is as ports)
Thanks in advance

Hey there Anthony, I went down this deep rabbit hole with my video titled "Sony camera issues with the DJI RS2 & RavenEye" I'd link it here but I'm on my phone. It's a limitation of the camera, but watch that video and it will explain it in more detail
@@keith-knittel Solved it😀. I had the HDMI Resolution set to 2160/1080. I changed it to Auto and hey presto it works perfectly.
can i charge the raveneye from the rs2 gimbal itself?
Thank you a lot for the video. I am considering buying a small video transmitter for the RS2 (which I already have), so the Raveneye might be an option as it seems quite small too, but I have a question.
If you connect everything but the usb c cable from RSS to the camera, the Raveneye will at least send a video signal, or it needs the double connection (hdmi and usb-c) with the camera necessarily?
My camera Blackmagic needs the usb-c port and I only need to send a video signal, no tracking or other fancy stuff..
Thank you in advance for the answer, man!
Dear Keith , dear ALL
what fps does it transmit? If i shoot FHD 60 fps or 120 fps does it work as well? I am excited about Raveneye, because it completely replaces and quit the need of any control monitor - is there any limitation regarding fps?
Thanks a lot, your feedback is much appreciated 😊
Hey there Edward, I’m not sure what FPS the Raven eye transmits fo the app but while recording 120 FPS on my a7iii the raven eye works as expected. You’re not able to record 120fps in the ronin app, the app is more for monitoring or low-resolution recording. Good question and thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel yeah I know, I dont want to record in the Ronin, I just want to go sure that it handles all incoming signals :)
This dji RS 2 gimbal can be used for Canon 5 D Mark iii DSLR Camera?
I don't have a 5D mark iii, but be sure to check out the link in the description for the camera compatibility as far as the camera control cables are concerned. As for just using the camera, the 5D should be able to be used no problem with the RS2. Thanks for watching!
@@keith-knittel please sir you can check and telli me
Would appreciate if you help me out with this question.
Thanks,
Tia,
Hey there, sorry but I don't have a canon camera to test any of this out with. Does anyone with a canon have any help here? Thanks for watching though and hope you resolve your problem. I made a sony setup video that may help some? Not an exact apples to apples video, but it might have some overlap there?
@@keith-knittel Thank you for your reply,
I contacted Dji support but not getting any useful info. The cam is a bit old though I know someone with the same model using it with reveneye without doing any special settings or so. I'll let you know if I find a solution.
Thanks,
Tia,
have you ever have the issue of having some of your clips randomly save on your phone and some on your camera sd card?
If you don’t have a card in your camera, pressing the raven eye record button will save the clip to your phone. Thanks for watching
Hi. Do you know how to switch to 5Ghz WiFi frequency?
I have never needed to manually select a frequency before, so I have not tested that feature (or knew it existed, honestly) I'll try that next time I'm using my RS2. Sorry for the late response, and thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel nevermind. I've already found a way. Thanks.
Hi Keith, good content. With the current setup, Can you change camera settings form the app
So very helpful! Thank you. New sub.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
For slower-moving subjects like a bride that will work well
@@keith-knittel awesome, thanks a bunch
I have the Raveneye and it’s brand new but the battery life depletes pretty quickly is there a way to charge it from the RS2?
Yes, you can charge it with the USB C port from your gimbal to the RavenEye, or with the USBC port and a battery bank or wall charger
