Is there a reason you put the tenon on the drive center end?
Good question, Eric. I had to stop and think about that. That is the way the demonstrator I watched do it. But I think cutting the tenon on either side would woruld work just fine. on this kind of bowl.
Mike Peace Woodturning thank you. I have tried a couple of this style bowl. One of the most critical elements I have experienced is the starting cube must be as close to a perfect cube as possible. If not the wall thickness of the bowl is not even. I find turning the tenon on the live center easier and safer. I really do value your videos. Really excellent.

I would of never thought to use the board, with sandpaper on it, to sand those wings. I'm going to have to try this on a smaller scale lol. I have a long history of losing knuckle skin to projects like this 😁

Next time
You can turn three wing bowls out of a rectangular piece of wood to get an interesting outcome. Or, you can turn with a piece of wood that is not a perfect cube. They all provide interesting outcomes and not one of them is the same.

Do you normally finish the inside of the bowl before or after removing the tenon and turning the foot when using a vacuum chuck?
I always add my finish off the lathe. generally 3-5 coats of Minwax AO.
Interesting, Mike. I usually turn the tenon on the tailstock end but I think I like it the way you did it. It gets you a better grip, sooner. The piece turned out great! In the picture at the end of the video I guess you have it setting on a small base. That looks great, too. Now I'm wondering if there is some way to turn it WITH that base as all one piece. Not sure my brain can process all that info. LOL! Nice job, fun video, Mike!

That picture was a second and larger one I did. Turned as you surmised all one piece. A little extra work with reverse chucking but not too different from turning a bowl with a foot without the extra carving.
Hey Mike I'm new to wood turning just over a month. I've made a mushroom a goblet with a captured ring some solid vases due to lack of a bowl gouge which I recently acquired. My problem is I'm not sure where to set the tool rest center ,above or below center. I'm reaching myself and trying to be as safe as possible thank you for the videos they are very helpful to me

I first saw Jimmy Clewes turn one of these a few years ago in Kansas City at the AAW Symposium. He turned at really high speed. I’ve only made one and it turned out pretty nice. Does it matter what you set on the grain direction? You have 3 sets of points to pick from. Thanks for the video👍
I move the block around and it looks like you are going to wind up with the same grain issues no matter.
