You say you don't feel like you can do a good pull cut, I believe that doesn't matter. The creativity and skill you display in the projects you have done says different. I love watching your videos for two reasons, they are very relaxing, and I love the beautiful pieces of wood you use. I think all your projects are works of natural art. Keep doing the wonderful work you are doing. Thank you
Thank you Paul. I don’t say that as a criticism per say, I just know that in general you get a better finish from a cut than from a scrape and every time I try to do a pull cut (very light, just clean up) from the chuck side out toward the rim after I mount the bowl in the chuck I get a nasty catch. I’ve watched a bunch of videos on how to do it and I understand the process but cannot seem to make it work! Anyway, I’m really glad you are enjoying the videos - I’m having a blast!
@@LisaRamlow I tried to learn to turn wood, but after busting several cutters and scrapers and one lathe I figured it wasn't for me. Now a days I work with petrified wood and stone, I find it easier. You have a wonderful day.
Wow excellent piece of art. Continue to appreciate the commentary. Wish more wood turners or workers would do that. You telling us what you're doing and why you're doing it, is appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Harvey! I started with carbides cuz I was totally overwhelmed by the whole sharpening end of turning but after finding the Wolverine Jig decided to go down that path too. I like having all the options, and there are some things the carbides do better (or more safely) than traditional tools. Whatever works! 😁

Beautiful job Lisa. I've got a three-winged bowl in progress but I'm remodeling my shop so it'll be a while, I'll return to this video to make sure I do it right, lol. Great bowl.

Hi Lisa, I have been wanting to turn a winged bowl. Every other video that I watched they would just turn the bowl without explaining anything, just music. I like how you explained the steps. Thank you and beautiful bowl.
Lisa, new to you here on UA-cam. I appreciate your open comments on why you are doing what you do yes, even when you express things you are not good at doing. It teaches me a lot and makes your content so much more then just a making video. Thank you!
That is just gorgeous. You are a very authentic, no melodrama turner. Enjoyable to watch. I do disagree on one comment you made: your pull cuts are just fine. Maybe you are a perfectionist, which is also fine in woodturning. Levis The Turner
Hi Levis, thank you so much. I’m working on the pull cuts - I normally end up doing a scrape if I have to do a pull cut because I have a terrible time not getting a catch. I think I’m cutting too far along the wing and need more practice. And yeah, I may or may not have unrealistic expectations of myself 😉😂
Another well done project Lisa. As for not being able to do a proper pull cut I'm sure you know that there is only one fix for that. Practice. You will love the Ron Brown set up jig for the 40/40 grind. Simple, effective, accurate.
Hi Brenda! I was just discussing the fact that I’m not good at freehand sharpening for the same reason I’m not good at dancing. RoboHippy and/or Cindy Drozda say you have to learn to dance with the grinder and I am a very. Sucky. Dancer 😂
Well dinky do! Look at you, who's a clever girl then. As Elana refers below, your versatility is most admirable. Being the dawk I am, I'd never have thought of the resin idea but boy does it work. Totally new as an idea to me but I think it's great. I liked the hippie female wings... nice one. Again, well done our Lisa. There ain't much that gets by you!! Pam x👏👏👍👍
I love this. I just finished my first live edge bowl (only rapped my knuckles twice). Now I have to try this cube. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. 17:27
Ooh, this is a wonderful piece Lisa. I'd be happy to win it as your 5000th Sub Giveaway !! I really like the walnut with the sapwood center set off by resin racing stripes. Now make a good lid and it'll be perfect ! Thanks for sharing🙏 Stay safe. -Mike😷💉
Very nice bowl. The sapwood in between the resin adds a great feature. I have a Nova tail center like yours (?) and I use a small punch to knock the point out. Thanks for sharing! Take care, Dave
Thank you Dave! This is a Laguna center and it seems possible that the point comes out of a taper of sorts, since your Nova and the OneWay centers work that way. I’ll have a look 👍

The bowl came out great. Just beautiful. I did not see where you mentioned the persons that you ordered your tools from. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Curtis! I ordered the 1/2” Thompson bowl gouge from Cindy Drozda since she puts the 40/40 grind on it. I have a 5/8” bowl gouge I got directly from Thompson Lathe Tools. I have several carbide tools from Simple Woodturning/Harrison Specialties-the square rougher, round hollower, a swan neck hollower I haven’t used in a video yet, the cupped shear scraper and a 55degree diamond point detailer - that diamond point tool never cut right, even after I sharped the carbide. I ordered some replacement carbides from AZ Carbides and they rep the Axe by Carter carbide tools so I got a new diamond point tool from them and it’s great. I’m not going to do the Amazon Affiliate program but I can start to link the tools I use directly to the places I buy them. I’ll add that stuff to the description box next video. Thanks for watching 😃
I admit I have turned many cubes and none as nice as yours. I will keep trying. I noticed on your Simple Woodturning shear scrapper you said it wasn't as smooth as you thought it should be or something like that. I have the same tool and love it....For me to get a smooth finish you need to present the carbide at a 30 degree or so angle to the work and it does a really nice job. If held to flat it won't give as smooth of finish. Also, try out the 90 degree detailer another fav of mine. Like you channel and keep up the great ideas.
Hi Stuart! I haven’t used the shear scraper much so am still playing around with the angle a bit - Kerry from Harrison Specialties says to find your sweet spot somewhere around 30-45 degrees I think so I’m still messing around with it a bit now that I have a new cutter in it. I don’t have a really smooth pull stroke (with any tool!) and there were a few dings in my tool rest so hopefully next time I’ll get a little better surface. I also have the Square Rougher, Round Turner/Hollower and the 55degree Detailer from Harrison/Simple Woodturning and like all the tools except the Detailer - I have never been able to get that thing to cut, even when it was new. Wonder if I just had a bad carbide or something, though another viewer has the same issue. I bought replacement carbides from AZ Carbide and they don’t have a replacement for the 55deg Detailer so I ended up buying the Axe by Carter Detailer, which came with 4 cutters, and it works like everyone else’s diamond shaped cutters. Thanks so much for watching and for the tips! 😊
Beautiful, really love this piece. Yes the center pops out of the Laguna live center. I use the Ron Brown setup on the Wolverine jig and really like it on the 5/8 bowl gouge for the outside. May not be a true 40/40 but is easy to grind and repeat.
Hi Harvey, thanks for stopping by! I’ll look a little closer at the tails center- the only thing I noticed were a couple of circular indents in the face of the brass colored thingy that must be for like a spanner wrench or something? Wasn’t too worried cuz cutting the flat spot on the compound miter saw was easy but it would be good to know how the thing works for future projects! 😁 I’m sure the Ron Brown jig will be fine for those of us who are lousy freehand sharpeners. Even Stuart Batty says a degree off one way the other isn’t significant so it’ll be more than adequate for me 😂
Hi Mike! I’ve decided this bowl will be the giveaway and will give the option of lid or no, so you will see it - or the new one I’m making for it anyway 😉
