LiquorHound’s Top 10 Bourbons of All Time!

- Опубліковано 9 жов 2014
- Many people ask me what my favorite bourbons are, so I decided to shoot a video showcasing my “Top 10 Bourbons of All Time”. It wasn’t easy leaving out some great bottles, but I think I can sleep with my final decisions. Now I know there have been many great bourbons released, so if you have a bottle suggestion that you think could have replaced one of my picks, let us know. Remember, taste is subjective, so no one's wrong (unless you tell me something like Old Crow, then you’re wrong). ;)
As of 10-10-2014, my current bottle count stands at 1475 total bottles. I have 919 different ones in the bar & another 556 in back stock. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for the last two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thank you for watching and sharing in my passion.
Cheers! - Навчання та стиль
Awesome video. I loved your surprises and the information you shared on each. I just started prohibition style bartending in KY and learning all the 200 bottles is overwhelming so this was helpful!
Thanks!
Well I now have 2 of your top 10 Bourbon's of all time. No easy feat living in Ontario, Canada. Both traded for, 3 SM Scotch's for the Four Roses 125th and a Glendronach 15 Revival for the 2012 George T Stagg. I doubt I will get much further than 2 without winning the Lottery.
I was amazed I could drink the GTS neat at that proof by just waiting 20 min. Spectacular.
This is probably the 50th time I have watched this, memorizing. Can you imagine the views if you were actually reviewing these and nosing/ tasting them :)
Cheers
Very entertaining videos, please keep them coming. I enjoy them very much. Thank you good sir!
there is such honesty in u, ill keep listening.....
Great video and perfect choices! Well done sir
Love the video! Been a fan of Four Roses for a while! We made a video too of our top bourbon. Nice to see other people's opinions
you are a true Master of your profession.
I was just cleaning out my cabinets and found two of the PHC wheaters. I love that bourbon.
Thanks Hound, That is one hell of collection of Bourbon. It's amazing what you could buy "back in the day." I started drinking single malt whisky as a green teenager in the late 80s. My first bottle (cos I liked the label) and subsequently my go to whisky for a couple of years was - Port Ellen. I can't afford to taste it any more and it breaks my heart.
+Welsh Toro - Wow! Well at least you can say you've had plenty of it. Cheers!
I'm always so jealous to see guys like you and Daniel on whisk(e)y vault have such epic bourbon collections.
Another great review. Thanks!!
Loving your videos!
I'm hoping the newer iterations of the Four Roses Small Batch are as good as they were then. I just picked one up tonight. CHEERS!!
Very cool, thank you for sharing
Chris thank you for drawing my attention to 2009 Stagg. Secured a bottle and... it is the best I ever had.
I've got four of fourteen shown, plus I've tasted the FR125 and AH Hirsch. I have some 1987 100 proof OGD (close). Liquor Hound, you rule!
Impressive collection.
impressive lineup!
Love your video's.Ive tasted both 4 roses all 3 Parkers the Hirsch both Staggs and the Bookers Anniversary.Im more of a Rye as the secondary grain but what do u think of the Jeffersons 17 yr Presidential and 2015 William LaRue Weller? Both Wheated bourbons.I also loved the PH "promise of hope" and their Cognac finish.Great job.I enjoy your video's.Those 2 4 Roses are so good. The Great Jim Rutledge will be missed at 4 Roses.
This is a great video, thanks! Is there anything from 2014, 15 or 16 that you would now add to the list?
Should be Top 10 bourbons I'll never get to taste! Oh well, there's a lot of good ones out there.
I keep seeing that bottle over your right shoulder - TX Whiskey. I see this on the stores shelves all the time, and since yours seems almost empty, I have to ask - is it any good?
awesome simply awesome.thank you .
So jealous of your Old Rip Van Winkle 23 y/o
Chris, really enjoy hearing you talk about these amazing bottles. Any plans to do an update? My sister and BiL visited a speak easy' club in northern NY and they have like a 5 or 6 page menu. The A H Hirsch was like $400 a pour. I couldn't believe since I had never heard of it and was like 4X the Pappy 23 price. Have a great 2020!!
I will probably do an update, but don’t expect a ton of changes. Thanks for watching and cheers!
Still one of my favorite UA-cam Video of all time
Thanks! I’ll have to update it one day soon since I have a couple that have now pushed their way in. ;-) Cheers!
Great video! I have two of the ten.
Nice video,a couple of days ago ( July-19-2017 ) I was driving home after work and I said,I have to stop and pick up a bottle of bourbon but I only had $30.00 on me so I was thinking Elija Craig or Turkey 101.I stopped at a shopping center called Stew Leonards, they have their own liquor store inside the market but I wanted to stop at Connecticut Beverage Mart about a mile further down but I was soooo tired I wasn't up to driving the extra distance so I stopped at Stews. On the shelf they had a bottle of Stagg barrel proof 129.5 apv for $52.00,I bought the bottle with my credit card and told the lady at the register " I never heard of such a thing lol there has to be something wrong with it but I'll take it home and try it and probably register my complaint on the internet, but its a nice tasting whiskey.
These are all top shelf
Really enjoyed how you gave a few alternatives that are easier to find for much less money then some of those big boys.
Minor correction on the Four Roses. The 2012 is bottled at 111.4 proof, not 119.6.
Keep those reviews rolling!
Cory Schriver - That's correct (111.4 proof for the 2012). I guess I misspoke on that one. Thank you and cheers!
Thanks! Would like to see a list of 10-ish readily-available bourbons that are especially good or particularly good values.
Dave Sill - It's on the list. Thank you and Cheers!
You can be the only one who can determine that for yourself. It's a wonderful journey of whiskey tasting along the way. There will be a fire bumps along the way. But none the less it's a pretty great adventure.
I have had every year of Stagg since 2007. They all have their own personality. 2008 was my favorite, with its heavy cavendish tobacco notes
Ugh, yeah they've had some amazing ones along the way. Cheers!
At 5:30 I tried that 20 year old american whiskey last week in Lexington, KY and was very happy with the pour. Would love to find a bottle of that.
Great watch, glad to have discovered your videos! Would you consider doing a similar video for your top rye releases?
niten - I will, but I'm not a huge "rye guy", so I'm not sitting on a ton of amazing rye bottles. Cheers!
I love you man - from Wilson
I recently tried Woodford Reserve Somoma-Cutrer Pinot Noire Finish, and it was fantastic so I am quite interested in trying some of these other limited release bourbons.
+Coy Gill - That’s a very uniquely flavored bourbon. If you enjoyed that, you may also be intrigued by Rough Rider Bourbon (it’s also wine finished), Belle Meade Sherry Cask Bourbon or Angel’s Envy Bourbon (Port wine finished). Other unique whiskies (that aren’t bourbon) that you might also try, would be Angel’s Envy Rye (it’s rum cask finished), High West "A Midwinter Night’s Dram” Rye (port finished) or maybe even Westland American Single Malt (if I remember correctly, it had some peppermint patty notes). Cheers!
hey liquor hound i just found my love for whiskey and just started watching your videos. have some special balcones, blantons, jefferson reserve working on more. keep up the awesome videos
Never mind, just saw your review on it lol!
Always a sexy collection there, i got lucky i guess a year or two before the great bourbon boom. Only have 3 bottles in your video collection there. Have four bottles of the GTS myself one bottle for each year after 2010, four bottles of the A.H. hirsch 16 year old albeit none of them waxed, and i had 3 bottles of the Parkers Heritage 27 year old
So now almost 2 years later are there any newer releases or anything that has come to market that you think would break into this top 10? If so what would you take out to make room for the new comers.
Fun educational and wonderful fun
Ever think about doing a review on some of these like the pappy , the hirschel or the distillers mastery
I have a question about a photograph I saw, it a box that says Distillers Masterpieces on it but I don't know which one it is. I would like to send you a photo to see if you have ever come across this bottle. Unfortunately none of the people at my local liquor stores are very knowledgeable when it comes to bourbon, no one I have come across has any good info about this box. Thank You for all your videos you have taught me a lot about bourbon and scotch.
Informative. Thanks for sharing. Where would William Larue Weller (Antique Collection, any year) fall in your line-up? Maybe Top 20 bourbons??
+JJ Salas - Oh it would make top 20. I actually might even give it an edge over GT Stagg, but that would be a neck and neck race (depending on the vintage). Cheers!
nice videos!
Hey brother thanks for another great review. I always enjoy them as you have juice that I will probably never get my hands on. It's also nice to see your passion for it as well. I am a huge Stagg fan and was wondering if maybe you could do a comparison of the years that you currently own? Also have you tried the Elijah Craig 23 yo and if so is it worth the price? Thank you and keep em coming bro.
Joseph Watts - I haven't invested in the new Elijah Craig 23. My last bottle of EC 21 was already over-wooded, so I'm leery about spending $200 on an older bottle. Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback. My good friend shares the same opinion that you do so I will remain leery as well as is priced at 200 bucks here as well! I love your top ten bourbons video bro, I never get tired of watching and learning more! Thanks.
Hi, I'm just getting into bourbon. I really like your reviews! They are very insightful! What year was the 10 Year Stagg bottle released in this review? Thanks!
Tom S. The two George T Staggs I show are the 2009 (141.4 proof @ 16 years, 7 months old) and the 2012 (142.8 proof @ 16 years, 9 months old). Cheers!
Have you tried the 2014 GTStagg?
Only one I've had is the EH taylor regular. Oh my that stuff is good.
I recently traded for a 2012 Thomas Handy and was also lucky enough to win a BTAC 2015 WLW. How would these 2 stack up against any of these. I doubt I will ever get to try any of these but I must say the 2 I mentioned are spectacular.
Cheers
Just found this site. I have an unopened booker noe from 1986, brown wax. What is a rough idea of its worth? Thanks
Sir, could you review parker’s heritage 10th edition 24 years old bourbon?
Any pappy reviews coming any time soon?
"They all do different things." I presume they all get you soused.
Really enjoyed this. What's your opinion of Makers 46?
xxl96 - It's was my favorite from them until the regular Cask Strength version came out (but the Makers 46 is a much better value). Cheers!
wow - is that all your collection?! if so - that's rather impressive.
A nice top 10! i can't afford many of these except the Old Grand Dad maybe. What are your thoughts on the current bottling of OGD 114? if you have had it.
AngryBassist66623 - I have, but unfortunately the new OGD 114 is not even close to the older stuff. I'd suggest Blanton's as a very nice substitute. Cheers!
I really enjoyed the review. I'm wondering what auctions you are speaking of, where are they located or are they online?
Raymond White - Most are overseas (Google "whisky auction"), but Bonham's does one in New York every now and then. Cheers!
Hey,
Thanks for the video. I recently saw the Jim Beam Distiller's Masterpiece Sherry Cask (the newest one) in a liquor store for 200 dollars. Have you tried this? Would you recommend picking this up? Thanks!
thatwhichregions - It's a tasty sweet bourbon that is still available on shelves around that price point. Right now, people aren't that crazy about dropping that kind of money on a no age statement bottle of bourbon, but the same thing happened in 1999 when the original Distiller's Masterpiece 18 year Cognac Finished Bourbon came out at a similar retail price. They sat on shelves for a decade, but now you'd be hard pressed to find or buy one of those for under $750. Like I mentioned earlier, the Sherry Cask DM is a very good no age statement bourbon, but then again, so is the 9 year old Belle Meade Oloroso Sherry finished bourbon (at less than half the cost). Decisions, decisions... ;) Cheers!
also should i grab all the bottles of that I can?
In this current bourbon boom, how often do you find yourself going back to your favorite store or searching localy to get a 2nd bottle of hype/ bourbon? Thanks
+busa King - I don't usually let whiskey hype drive my spending (that's an easy way to overspend nowadays). Instead, my whiskey friends and I get together to share new bottles with each other about once a month. So if I stumble on one that I really enjoy, I may go buy one (or two) to review and drink down the road. It's good to have like-minded friends! ;-) Cheers!
What's your opinion of Russels Reserve single barrel? It's recently became a "go to" drink of mine 2-3 days a week after a hard days work. Where would yo place it on your list?
brooksjedi - Like most single barrels, it's kind of a gamble on how good your barrel would be, but the bottle I picked up at the distillery is fantastic. That particular bottle would crack the Top 50 for sure and possibly the Top 25. Cheers!
By the way, I tried some very old JTS Brown that was phenomenal (i think it was from the early 80’s). What is it you think makes the flavor so deep and rich in those older bottlings?
My first thought is better quality casks maybe from “old growth” oak.
That’s awesome! You’re right about the old growth oak. Longer natural seasoning of the staves and lower barrel entry proofs are other parts of the formula. And let’s not forget, a huge reason older whiskeys tasted richer and deeper than our current ones is that they dumped older bourbon barrels into “lesser” blends back then. Since the demand wasn’t huge, they’d possibly be dumping 12-20+ year old barrels into standard blends or into lesser age stated bottles. Cheers!
@@LiquorHound That is a really good point about blending in older stocks. I feel like they did that more recently with how the Brown Foreman Early Times BIB tasted. As a 1L bottle under $30 the flavors definitely punched above it’s weight class.
I have a sealed 100 month beam decanter that has 1987 stamped in the bottom I really want to open one day. It’s just at 80 proof but I have yet to hear how these taste.
What do you do for a living to afford a nice was collection like that?! 1400+ bottle... That would be my own personal heaven.. 😁
do you ever have moments were you're like you know what I'm gonna just sit down and get drunk as a skunk? lol you have more then enough whiskey to do so😂😂😂😂
I just found a bottle of the E.H. Taylor warehouse for 65? Good find? How rare is it?
If it's Warehouse C Tornado Survivor, buy them all (and send me one). ;-) They're very rare and are highly collectible. Cheers!
nice
Wow....Wow
Wild that your top bourbons are all the most rare and most expensive.
Well they weren't that rare or expensive when I bought them, but they did go that direction. Regardless of their retail price or secondary values, older bourbons like these are just hard to beat. Of course if I were to re-shoot this video, there would be at least one substitution - most likely for that 2012 Four Roses. Cheers!
Very informative video, thanks.
I am a novice Bourbon drinker and have just embarked on my journey down "The Bourbon Trail". I have been going through some of the more highly rated but under $40 brands (I live in Washington state so because of the "sin tax" involved a $30 bottle ends up being a $40 bottle) one I just picked up was a fifth of Lexington bourbon that is being highly touted by the stores I've seen it in and is said to have gotten a score of 95 at a competition in San Diego. It is 84.6 proof and has no claim of age although their website says it is at least 4 years old.... to me I find their claim of 95 points a joke as well as the distillers claim of at least 4 years to be a joke as well....to me it tastes like a very young bourbon and I wonder if you have tried it and if so, what you think of it.
Thanks again for very informative videos.
Herb Beddoe - I haven't had that brand, but most of those young bourbons are all going to be very similar unless they're "finished" in special casks ("Rough Rider" bourbon comes to mind). As for tasting scores, they're all subjective, so I'd suggest you start by sticking to the slightly older and more established bourbon names like Elijah Craig 12, Eagle Rare 10, Knob Creek, Bookers, 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, etc... You can watch this video of mine for some tasting notes on most of those and a few more tasty options: ua-cam.com/video/WCvsLglxeUY/v-deo.html Cheers!
I would venture to say that Angels Envy kills Four Roses, which was my previous favorite. Thoughts?
+Justin Lane - I guess that depends on your personal flavor preferences. The standard Angels Envy may be more interesting than the standard 4 Roses Small Batch (for a more experienced Bourbon drinker), but maybe not more than their Single Barrel (those vary - especially private picks). Now if we're talking "Limited Editions", give me Four Roses over AE's. Cheers!
Why my A H Hirsh has a kind of gold plastic wrap around the top open, but yours has red wax? I am lucky to still have two such bottles unopened.
That’s what mine are (“Gold Foils”). Back then (before Parafilm), I used to wax dip my bottles using paper to protect the seals. It wasn’t the easiest method, but it saved some spirit loss due to degraded corks in a few of my bottles. Yes you are lucky to have them, so congratulations! Thanks for the comment and cheers!
@@LiquorHound Thanks for the information. It was about 8 or 9 years ago, one day I was buying bourbons @ a small Specs store near our neighborhood. When checking out, I looked around and spotted these two bottles high up in a shelf corner behind the register. I was not sure so when I came home I did research on the name A H Hirsh. Then I rushed back to the Specs to buy both bottles for less than $150 each.
In your opinion how do you think they compared to the Blanton's series Bourbons or is there even a comparison?
Some of the older Blanton’s (pre-2009) or possibly a handful of their current single barrels can be awesome. Unfortunately, they still might fall short of these (but they can be solid). Cheers!
I have an unopened bottle of the A.H. Hirsch and the Col. Taylor Tornado Warehouse. Waiting for very special occasions to open!
Great choices there! Enjoyed this video. I would be interested in your thoughts comparing the very best of Booker Noe, to the best of Jimmy Russell, to the best of Elmer T Lee. As you know the 3 of these men were very close friends and experts in their craft. What do you think is their best offering?
+John L - Hmmm, Elmer T Lee's selections we're all really solid, but I don't think I ever had one that beat the best from Booker or Jimmy. Booker Noe's "Friends & Family" brown wax bottling and his 18 year Distiller's Masterpiece are both stellar bottlings. As for Jimmy, it would be easy to say his Tribute bottling, but I also have a lot of love for a single barrel Russell's Reserve that I bought at the distillery (it's ridiculously good) and his 15 year American Spirit. Of them all, Booker Brown Wax easily get's the nod for it's oiliness, proof and complexity. Cheers!
Thanks! Great insight here.
Quick question, how long will bourbon last in a open bottle, does it go bad?
Jim Bowling if it's still fairly full forever. as the bottle get less full there is more air space for the alcohol to evaporate in to
Until it evaporates. Also The product stops Maturing in the Glass. For All Spirits
Have you thought of making a top 10 of "common bourbons" I mean bourbon that aren't hard to find or over the top price.?
+Duque Dupre - This was shot last year. Enjoy & cheers! ua-cam.com/video/WCvsLglxeUY/v-deo.html
How do you feel about PVW20 and ER17? These two and GTS are my top 3.....
+stevematherly - Not a bad top 3! I also love all 3 of those (although I'd prefer the William Larue Weller's over the ER 17 - but that's per my palate). Either way, they're all hard to get nowadays and you should consider yourself lucky with any. ;-) Cheers!
Where would the PHC 6 Blend of Mashbills fall into the top 100? Yr previous video of PHC comparisons seemed to favor the 6 Blend as champion of that line of the first six editions.
***** - Well just guessing, I'd say the Blend of Mashbills might fall roughly around the 40th spot. As far as the entire PHC lineup, every time I revisit them, I find something I love in each of them (I especially enjoyed the latest Wheat Whisky). But with great bourbons like the Wheated 10 Year, The Golden Anniversary and the Blend of Mashbills, do we really need to name a champion? Well maybe some more "research" is in order ;) Cheers!
Hi
I have a question on the old Granddad. Is there a lot number on the back label? Also is that the original cork? I found a bottle with the same label but a smaller black cork labeled as Lot number 18 and comes in a cheesy gold box.
Bradley Jewell - Mine is from 1982 and has Lot 11 on the back (and yes it does have a replacement cork). It was from "The Old Grand Dad Distillery Co." in Frankfort KY. before Jim Beam bought them out in 1987. Cheers!
Thanks for the help
hey mate whats your thoughts on the buffalo trace bourbon?
+Aussie DIYFK - The standard BT bourbon is pretty much that, standard. It can be sipped, but I find myself using it mostly in cocktails. Now if it's a private selection for a store/individual, I've had some of those that were nice sippers. Cheers!
Do you have a top ten of whiskeys that are readily available? By the way...I still think Old Grand-Dad 114 is an excellent bourbon!!!
+Luis Wells - I did this one awhile back. I know some (like Elmer T Lee) are not "readily available" anymore, but you can sub in Knob Creek, Wild Turkey 101, or Old Grand Dad 114 for it. Cheers! Here's that video: ua-cam.com/video/WCvsLglxeUY/v-deo.html
whiskey review
liquorhound you were my motivation behind making my very own whiskey review video! as you can see i'm not as professional as you :[
keep up the great videos!
Doesn't finishing bourbon in Cognac barrels change the product from even being bourbon? I thought bourbon had to be virgin barrels
That’s a very complex question that is sparking huge debate among the Bourbon community. I’ll simplify my opinion as Bourbon doesn’t stop being Bourbon because it goes into a finishing cask, just like American Whiskey (aged in used casks) doesn’t suddenly turn into a Bourbon by going into a new charred oak cask. Now I know it’s waaay more complicated than that, but as long as the TTB is allowing it to be called a “Bourbon” on the label (with the finishing technique listed), it’s a Bourbon. Besides does Bourbon really want to start competing separately with “Finished Whiskies?” With the current state of the majority of our store shelves being dominated by immature Bourbons, I think “Bourbon” wouldn’t benefit from that.
And please remember I’m not talking about “Flavored Whiskies” since they literally add natural flavoring materials, with or without the addition of sugar, bottled at not less than 30% alcohol by volume (60 proof). That could/should never be “Bourbon” imo.
Cheers!
I noticed your website is under construction and so I didn't know where to submit this question, but I was wondering how you maintain your collection with out going through too much of it. Do you have some daily drinkers that you like, so you can preserve your collection for occasional tastings? I ask this question, because I have began to get interested myself, but maintaining a collection of sorts with out killing too many of the bottles seems difficult and costly.
David Barss - Since I don't drink every day, I don't really have "daily drinkers". But when I do go for a pour, there are a few that I may go to more often than some of the rarer bottles. They're usually still available in stores or a bottle that I have a backup or two for. Now if I only have one bottle of something, then I do tend to save it for special tastings/occasions. Cheers!
***** Thanks I appreciate your response. For 2014 do you have some favorites that are your go to bourbons that are less than rare that you would share names. Thanks again
I picked up an old bottle of crown royal in hawaii about 6 years ago. It’s in a red box. I’ve never seen another one. Do you know anything about it?
Nice pick up! That’s the Crown Royal XR (Red Box) containing the last whiskies from the Waterloo distillery (which was mostly destroyed in a 1993 fire). It’s actually a very collectible bottle now. Cheers!
Nice! Thank you for the reply. Not sure whether to pop the top or just let it continue to sit in the box. Maybe sell
It to someone that collects stuff like this. Your channel is awesome. I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks again.
how much is this collection
Can you recommend a bourbons or bourbons that is "dangerously smooth easy to drink " "that it's like drinking water easy"? lol sorry had a bad experience with JD No7
To be honest that’s not a descriptor that bourbons usually strive for. It’s more of a Canadian Whisky type of direction. But if I was to suggest a few bourbons to begin with, I’d say the standard Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve or Weller Special Reserve are good and fairly easy going. Cheers!
@@LiquorHound Thanks I had bought a bottle of BT i think after I sent this, didn't do anything for me I'll have to look more into Canadian whiskey. Though I have tried Crown and Black Velvet didn't care for both.
Are 2009 and 2012 still your favorite years for George T Stagg? 2014 was really good. I also thought 2010 was great, but I didn't compare it to 2009 or 2012.
Those are all pretty solid GTS’s and I don’t think you’d be unhappy with any of them. I do remember that the 2010’s need a lot of air to be at their best. Cheers!
has anyone tried michter's small batch yet? can't find any good reviews. thanks!!
zack l yes I've tried the michters. I paid 75 for the bottle last Christmas. Never bought it again. If u want good bourbon stick with knob creek, bookers or stagg! They won't let u down.
Michters Unblended American Whiskey small batch is pretty good for 40 bucks imo. Not sure if that's the one your talking about but Whiskey Vault has a review on it ua-cam.com/video/X0oux8ihTL4/v-deo.html
Time is still going on brother.
It is, but the quality of releases hasn’t improved on these much. That said, OKI’s “Rickey Bobby” single barrel (MGP) from a few years back would probably kick out one of the Four Roses. Cheers!
How do you know the year on these bourbons? I can't seem to find the year
Well, they're all a bit different. If they're older (from the 90's and before), you can sometimes find a two digit date embossed on the bottom of the bottle. On newer bottles there's a laser/dot matrix code somewhere on the side of the bottle (usually pretty small and toward the bottom). It's probably best to Google the brand name and "date code" and find a forum on how to decipher the specific bottle. Cheers!
Hi Bros may i know which 1 is your best liquor ? cause in singapore here liquor tax very high n try to buy 1 your recommend brand to sip thks
+Robin Loke - If you're wanting a Bourbon, I'd probably just go with Blanton's (preferably the cask strength "Straight From The Barrel" bottling). It's not as expensive (on auctions) as the cask strength George T Stagg or William Larue Weller, and it'll probably easier to find. Cheers!
Thks sir your mention blanton,s at my place is around $130 sin dollars n will get 1 to try thks
What's the "Lot" number on the back of the OGD114?
That bottle was Lot No. 3, but it’s gone now. I’m on Lot No. 13 now, and it’s equally tasty. Cheers!
What are the chances of finding them now...some of them are extremely rare and,am lucky to own a few of them but the rest are really hard to find.
silverdc5 - I still see them popping up at auctions every now and then. As for on the shelves, I have stumbled on a few of them within the last year or so. Cheers!
can @liquorhound or anyone reccommend a good smooth/sipping bourbound. emphasis on "smooth" for a good price. im trying to keep it under $100
+Gene Hunter - Hmm, for me the one that comes to mind (that is readily available) is Belle Meade Sherry Cask Finished 9 year Bourbon. Cheers!
Wild Turkey 101. Around $22 a bottle where I'm at. Give it a try. Excellent sipping bourbon. Very smooth. Sweet vanilla and caramel.
What's your opinion on the Makers Mark black 95 proof and gold 101 proof? I find these to blow away anything MM ever produced.
FullTiltRico - Wow, I've never had either. Lucky you! Cheers!
I like how everyone George t stagg is always low lol
Have you had blantons sftb?
cwc0023 - I do have it and it's tasty, but mine needs a bit of water. Cheers!
OGD FTW
Hey man what would you say is the smoothest bourbon you’ve ever had?
Tbh, I don’t usually consider Bourbon “smooth” since most are 86 proof and up. The low proof wheaters (not Maker’s) are probably the closest, but I think that’s more of a low proof Canadian Whiskey trait (soft and sweet). Cheers!
thanks for answering, I’m trying to learn. Hmmm how about a high proof bourbon that has a slight sweetness, low spice, less burn?
I was under the impression that Bourbon could not be aged beyond 7 or 8 years because of the tannin leaching from new wood. Has the law changed regarding the reuse of barrels? I am partial to Blanton's myself.
+Steve Neher - The law hasn't changed on the use of brand new charred American oak barrels for Bourbons (no reused barrels allowed). Bourbons can be aged well beyond 7-8 years and most hit their prime between 10-15, but if they're aged too long the tannins will eventually start dominating and negatively effect the whiskey. For those older bourbons (15 and up), a lot of care has to go into finding the best rickhouse locations to mature them. They're usually looking for the coolest location and it's normally found in the center of the building and on the lower floors. Cheers!
