Here's my fav comment somebody posted about Old Crow, "It's like a 50 year old prostitute. But sometimes that's what you want. Sometimes that's exactly what you want."
I like Old Crow with Vernor's ...... try it
Evan Williams has never done me wrong, the price to taste ratio is great
pry their bottled in bond from my cold dead hands
Absolutely! I just bought a 1.75L for $22 here in Indianapolis at Big Red Liquors.
The apple is so good one of my favorite liquors
Yes Evan Williams is awesome
its my budget drink of choice
As a peer review I got a bottle of Black Velvet because I needed a cheap bourbon for a glaze sauce and had to try the taste. The first sip isn't actually that bad but after the second you just want to pour the whole thing into the sink rather than continue.
Not a bourbon. Canadian whiskey
About 26 years ago I had a friend who owned two liquor stores. One was in an upscale neighborhood and one was in the hood. I worked for him for a few years. It was so interesting to see the difference in what people bought. At one liquor store, nobody would buy Jim Beam. At the other store, Jim Beam was a top shelf choice.
@@paulnichols2233, I made an observation. Why does that make me a snob?
@@johnblossom8447 just some troll throwing meaningless insults around
Can anyone describe the difference between an expensive hangover and a inexpensive
@@kaylenedowdle1310about the same. Usually just feels worse and longer lasting if you get wasted on cheap sugary drinks. Example: get drunk on 4 loko, next day fee like hell on earth. Example 2: get drunk on an equivalent dose kirkland french vodka and I guarantee it wont be as gnarly.
The Hennessy flys off the shelf in the hood
So, what I'm hearing is that Canadian Mist needs to be added to the Punishment Wheel 🤣
My thoughts exactly
I wish I could give this comment more thumbs up.
This is the type of thinking we need.
Hearing or seeing that name makes my stomach start to turn and think of college hangovers
seen a guy today leaving with a large bottle tonight, why?

Evan, not Even. 😂
THANKS! Maybe they can be a little more organized and a little less drunk. "This is second, that's third". What? Rewind.
I'll take Jim Beam and Ten High. Each with a splash of water.
Detractors: go screw.
I enjoy Johnny Walker Black once in a while too.
Jim Beam is the most popular bourbon in America. For good reason.
I guess they didn't have any BENCHMARK #8 ??
Thank you!
I feel vindicated by Jim Beam being number 3, it’s not bad for cheap stuff, but Evan Williams deserved the number 1 spot
Evan white label is a beast. Must have for any home bar. It's not bad to sip and perfect for mixing. Can't beat the value. You also don't feel guilty for going through a bottle with a buddy in a night, compared to finishing a $100 bottle of top bourbon and feeling like you just lost a friend.
Shhhhhhhhh, dont let them know how much we think its a value, they might raise the price.
White label is Bonded whiskey. Once you learn the restrictions around that you’ll realize what makes it so good.
White label is my go to for cooking...bourbon BBQ sauce or bourbon glazed whatever.
@@jberks1213 I cook with it a lot…sometimes I even put it in my food
You want laphroaig 10 cask strength in your soy sauce … and a little chili juice
Evan Bottled in Bond is pretty good. As an every day drinker bourbon, the price point is spot on and it's a good value.
Ha! That’s what I’m sipping as I watch this. This does remind me why good, expensive single malt Islay Scotch is worth buying, though.
Facts
Shhhh, don't let them know how much we think its a value, they might raise the price.
@TanksForTheMammeries agree whole-heartedly.
Just did a blind w EW BIB, EW 86P, Buffalo Trace & Very Old Barton 100P. EW BiB won. The palate it is clearly more robust & bold than BT & I do like that in a whiskey. VOB was 2nd. BT was 3rd, but 1st for nose.. EW BiB 1.75L $28 beats BT 1.75L $52. Before I knew what they were, thought I picked BT as the winner, but was very happy to find it was EW White.
My expectation was the Evan would win hands down. That and Very Old Barton are my favorite low end bourbons, great for mixing.
I quit drinking 3 years ago, I haven't drank Canadian most in probably 6 or 7 years, but just thinking about it and seeing it i can taste it and smell it and feel my gut rolling.
Still plenty of $10 bottom shelfers so we expect a Part 2. Very Old Barton, Tom Sims, Zackariah Harris, Ancient Age, Ezra Brooks 90 proof (do they still make it?), Benchmark 8, Old Charter, Canadian Club, Early Times, Fleischmanns , Kentucky Gentleman. Maybe go with a 375ML or 200ML sizes so there is some cash left over for anti-acid tablets for Sean. This video was so much fun to watch.
Ezra Brooks Rye95. Gut
Beams 8 star
Add VO to the list. Nasty stuff.
Brother, you forgot Kessler
Oh oh heaven hill quality house 80 proof taste like a fine athlete American high school girl top to bottom
I laughed so hard I cried. The comments on the Canadian spirits were classic. Dan: “We’re not quitters here.” Sean, “I am.” 😂 Canadian Mist needs to be on the punishment wheel.
The description of the saharan elephant slurping it up and shooting it out of its ass had me literally rolling on the floor😅😅😅
Canadian Whiskey has always been the WORST.... Johnny Walker is #2.

This video is amazing. I was laughing at my desk so hard watching Sean “experience” Canadian Mist. Love the idea guys!!
How about 10 high whiskey

Thanks, this is useful info. I am now drinking and enjoying EW BIB. i got it because it was a bit less than WT 101, which is my longtime favorite moderate priced bourbon. I drink it neat or on the rocks mostly.
Evan Williams is great value. The 1783 is very good for the price too.
the 1783 is AMAZING for the price point.
@@Ragnar_Helsson Big Ups to 1783 🥃 .... I had EW from 1992 to 2025... just bought a new 1783 bottle.
Gents I have a lot going on personally with family health issues. I laughed uncontrollably throughout. Thank you!!!
Happy we could take you away for a few minutes
Black Velvet is not bad for the price. Compared to the alternatives? It’s not bad. I don’t drink it anymore, not since I was like 19 😂
When all you want to do is party and you just don’t want to taste gasoline.
I knew Evan was going to be in the winner's circle. It actually tastes like bourbon.
I am an old man who lives in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. I am an American whiskey, Bourbon & Tennessee, drinker. I occasionally drink locally made "lightning," and know a good bit about the whiskey making process. I liked this video. I find I agree with your conclusions. I suggest you try Evan Williams Bonded Bourbon. It costs just a little more than their regular 100 proof, but I find it to be a very acceptable bourbon and a great value. A great value in bonded bourbon I used to like in my younger days was Haller's County Fair bonded bourbon. I don't think it is made any more, but it too was a great whiskey for the money.
EW bonded is the 100 proof. I don't know of any EW 100 proof that isn't bonded.
@@dirkaydlette9493 I meant to type "Their regular 80 proof". "erare humana est."
@@powellmountainmike8853 Evan Williams Black label is 86 proof. They don't make an80 proof. Just so you know.
I remember back maybe summer of 83 after my sophomore year in high school one of my friends lifted a bottle of Canadian mist from their parents liquor cabinet. The only way we could get it down was with the only thing I had to mix it with….ShopRite ice tea. 😂. We would drink it out of small plastic cups standing over the sink just in case it came back up. We’d chug them right down and there was always a few dry heaves and watery eyes after. Good times hahaha
One of the best videos in a long time, boys! Laughed my ass off the whole time. My college self is thrilled to see Seagram’s make a run in this. Need more of this kinda content!
On occasion I have commented how important it is to see reviews on less expensive whiskey due to budget. But I never thought how important the perspective is from the other side of the spectrum. Such a great review. LMAO.
Evan Williams Bottled in Bond might be the best pound-for-pound value out there. I always have a bottle on my bar.
Jim Beam is fine Kentucky Bourbon. It is my everyday, affordable whiskey. I love the fragrance, the taste is not bad straight, but shines in cocktails.
And, as it says on my "Samuel Jackson Boston Lager" tee shirt: "It'll Get You Drunk!" 😂
I don't believe that Jim Beam belongs on this list. When I was in college and ground beef was a once per month luxury item, I drank "Old Crow" whiskey. Now THAT is a spirit that would be right at home on this list.
When my father came to visit me and peeked into my liquor cabinet, he saw my bottle of "Old Crow" and it actually frightened him! 😂
Evan Williams was my introduction to bourbon. It was cheap, didn't taste like total garbage, and it did the job.
In Charlottesville VA 1990s I drank a few bottles of 1783. 😉
Bought a fifth of Evan Williams (white label)100 proof bib yesterday after watching this. Hands down it is a steal at +/-$20. Slightly sweet..lots of great flavors..no unnecessary alcohol burn. Tasted it neat. Very satisfying and I'll be buying it again.
Guessing you bought that small size just to try it. If you like it, you gotta get the 1.75L glass bottle, $28 in many states. At that price you will love it even more or should I say "Evan" more.
I bought some black label and had to spit it out. It was the worst shooter among 6 whiskeys and bourbons
I use to drink Jim Beam daily, a handle for $30 would last me a couple days. I liked it a little bit better than Evan Williams and could barely tell a difference from Jack Daniels. Would never get a hangover off it drinking it straight, got the withdrawals quitting though.
And nearly every liquor store has these, so someone is buying them. This was a GREAT video. I was laughing so hard my wife came into the room to see what was going on. Multiple times as I’m looking I’ll see someone walk up, grab a bottom shelf bottle, then tell me “they’re all the same so I’m buying the cheapest one”
I know.... Somebody is buying A LOT of this swill. And we didn't even hit on the bottom shelf rum,, vodka, gin, and tequila
I work in a big box liquor store, we sell a LOT of bad whiskey. Cases at a time. I'm no snob, but cheap whiskey seems much worse than other inexpensive spirits. Same with Tequila.
@@jonlouis2582yup, you can get 1.75L of 7X distilled vodka here for $8-11+tax & it's not gross, not good either, but I don't like any vodka, it's neutral to me.
This is the most entertaining blind test ever! And still educational, thank you both!
Seagram’s 7 makes a ton of sense in that spot- there’s a reason 7 & 7 has been a staple dive bar cocktail for so long
This was also a staple cocktail at country clubs across the US for years.
I have drank them all, don't miss the hangovers, sleep like a baby. Sobriety is my super power....that disease is one of the worst ya can have.
I was positive that if you got the evan williams white label it would win. I was not disappointed. Hands down my favorite bourbon under $20. It makes for a very nice old fashioned whenever I'm craving one and it's solid when enjoyed neat as well.
Yeah the White Label is good stuff
Good to know
I know you didn't like this challenge, but it was great for us!!
Jim Beam white label is what got me to switch to bourbon. I hadn't tried any other bourbons before then, but I thought Jim Beam was great that first time I tried it. I drank Jack Daniels and coke for years prior to that. I thought Jim Beam and coke was notably smoother than JD and coke. The switch was immediate, and I haven't had any JD ever since.
I agree. I try to get everyone I know that orders Jack and coke to make it Jim and coke. Most people convert.
This is one of those videos that makes one appreciate that:

B) you can afford nice things

My best budget bottom shelf bourbon is JTS Brown. I get it for $10.49 at my local mid-tier grocery store. This was fun to watch 😂
I agree, another one to try is JW Dant, if you haven't already.
I have not had the regular Dant but the BiB Dant is good for the price.
JTS is pretty good stuff, but where I live, JTS and EWBiB are the same price, so I will take EWBiB every time.
My vote for best value. And it has the bonus of being the drink of Fast Eddie Felson in "The Hustler".
Laura Bush's reportedly famous ultimatum to her husband, "It's either Jim Beam or me," and George W. Bush chose Jim Beam over her. Damn! Should've chosen Jim Beam!
I don't think I've laughed so hard at a UA-cam video. Solid win for Evan Williams though! I keep that stocked at home as a mixer.
Probably the 12th time I have watched this video and every one left me in tears. One of the funniest videos I have seen. My favorite part was at the 19:09 mark "and a Ten High...whatever that thing is" 😂😂
Totally digging the GMM Gut Check vibes with this episode. Feel free to borrow from those guys anytime. They're entertaining and with your chemistry and format, it's gonna be a hit. This was a super fun episode to watch. Cheers!!
Great chemistry together, so very entertaining!
I was hoping you'd get to Canadian Mist. It's been a really long time but I still remember how bad it was and how hard it was to get through that bottle.
I'd say it's like drinking Pine-Sol but somehow worse. Maybe after someone smoked a few bowls of Pine-Sol, collecting the resin and using it to flavor more Pine-Sol.
Watching this now and paused to comment because Sean just killed me with "1. I'm not f*cking drinking that!" I'm dead.
Benchmark Top Floor is $17, Wild Turkey 101 is $18 and Old Forester 101 is $17 if you catch them on sale where I live. Oh, and Evan Williams BiB is $15.
I think Benchmark & Buffalo Trace are the same distillery. Same owners.
When you’re son wakes up at 3AM and you have to rock with him, you turn on the channel and start laughing hysterically
I’d like to see this video repeated but throw out the non bourbons and add other bottom shelf bourbons. Great video! Thanks for taking one (9) for the team.
Yeah bourbon guys don’t like Rye whiskey .. part of me is like .. ah, okay 😂. But still some truly horrible rye choices so I still can’t fault the reaction
Jim Beam was my staple during my drinking days. I always got a clean finish and it never made me sick.
Laughed out loud watching you guys go through the 10. Great job. Your adjectives for descriptions are off the charts!
My dad used to buy Canadian Mist by the case! Said it wasn’t all that great but he drank it because it was cheaper than Crown Royal.😂
Jim Bean and Evan Williams are two of my inexpensive bourbon regulars. I prefer Beam as it doesn’t give me hangovers as bad as Evan. I’m not a bourbon snob. I get nice bottles a few times a year but for the most part I drink the more affordable stuff. I can afford the good stuff. I just don’t like spending that much money on it when I drink it so often. Both of them do the trick.
"Like a Clarin rum"
As a rum fan, this excites me lmao. The funk isn't for everyone, but it's fun stuff if you get a palate for it.
This is absolutely hilarious guys. I couldn’t breathe at multiple different points
I've got an older bottle of ten high clearly labeled as 49 neutral grain 51 percent bourbon. Not sure if they changed the label or what's in the bottle
This list explains my college transcript! Good job Dan & Sean!
Came here to see what you thought of the Evan Williams, it's not bad isn't it? Fortunately I had to quit drinking but that was my goto whiskey, very reasonable price, nice fiery corn flavor with some hints of vanilla or something.
I'm still not sure how I was able to slam back Canadian Mist straight from the bottle back in the day
The liquor store where i worked in college around 1990 at the time stocked some top shelf stuff but the majority of the business was college parties and ghetto. We sold lots of rotgut. The store moved 2 blocks over and the neighborhood totally yupped out in the last 25 years. Now it's an upscale shop.
This is one of the most entertaining episodes since your FREEDOM episode, of which I watched several times.
I've seen Evan Williams as a special purchase at Whole Foods, and the neighborhood liquor store runs out regularly. It's a great mixer.
I used to drink copious amounts of Canadian Mist in college and thought it was pretty good. For some reason I can’t remember I had it again recently and almost puked it was so bad.
16:30 Canada and Mexico are legally required to recognize bourbon (and Tennessee whiskey) as distinctive products of the U.S. that may only be produced in the U.S. in accordance with U.S. law governing those products See Article 3.C.2. of Annex 3-C of the U.S. - Mexico - Canada Agreement and 27 CFR 5.143. The trade agreement provides similar protections for Canada (Canadian whisky) and Mexico (mezcal and tequila).
Well done. EW BIB is the only one of this group i ever still buy, so I'm really glad it came out on top.
Same. Although the Jim Beam could qualify if the BiB isn’t available.

I just stumbled across this. This is one of the best whisky videos I've ever seen, I laughed out loud.
Looks like a new poor guesses punishment pour 😅
This is the first video of yours that I've watched. Before Covid I used to bartend in a neighborhood bar. I had patrons who happily put down their three dollars for a shot of some of these contenders on a daily basis. One of them sometimes treats himself to Black Velvet. ::D I have a neighbor four doors from me who is just learning about Bourbon. (He is sixty-eight years old.) He knows that he likes bourbon, each time he finishes a bottle, he buys a new one, and he buys something different. Sometimes it is mid-shelf, sometimes bottom shelf. I will steer him toward Evan Williams when he is in a frugal mood. I'm not sure where your price points fall. If you want a decent Canadian Whiskey for a good price, Windsor Canadian is probably my favorite lower shelf drink.
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I was sympathetically reflex gagging when y'all were tasting that Canadian stuff.
I have to laugh a little at this. JB white label and JD are not as good as some of the cheap Canadian Stuff. I will take Canadian Club any day of the week over either one.
Me too. Jim makes many products that are so much better than anything Canadian
I AGREE !!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Evan Williams black label with Dr Pepper and a twist of lime. "The Sandpiper". Won an award for that drink way back when.
Each of these has their place in a mixed drink, but it's a different drink for each one.
I am not a whiskey expert yet I do prefer Evan Williams. Great flavor, great price. Discovered it at our local restaurant by ordering a whiskey coke with house whiskey.
Yup, it's amazing to me that people pay the price they do for Jack D, a 2yr (at best) whiskey when you can get EW 86P for half the cost, or less & it's a 5yr Kentucky Straight Bourbon. On paper, EW should cost 2-3Xs what Jack Black is.
What bars do you go to where those are all the bottom shelf?
Awesome video, as always :) sometimes the audio starts to distort and clip - you can easily prevent this, if you gainstage it to -18db (safe gain), and make it louder in post. Also a compression would help a lot, so the quiet audio and loud peaks are more balanced. sorry guys, im an audio producer, just thought i leave some tips regarding that topic :) cheers
I drank cheep whiskey, vodka , gin annlast scotch whiskey. I was 23 and a veteran. By the time I reached 55 i could afford top shelf .I still go by feeling
Seagam's 7 is what they use at the local Renaissance Faire for cocktails. It's good blended and you wouldn't want to use expensive whiskey for it.
In the era before vodka was even known 7 and 7 was the gateway booze
First video I've ever seen from you guys. Pretty impressive guy on the right could call out distillery's after a sip. Like instantly, and was right both times.
I would have been shocked if Evan Williams wasn't in the top 3, and as it turns out, it's the top 2 out of 3!
Oh man, you guys need to get your hands on some John Davon's! When I was staying in France for the past several months, I needed some bourbon for some recipes that I was cooking. A large supermarket chain called Leclerc had a brand--John Davon's--that we had never seen before. We got it because it was the cheapest option (alcohol is expensive in France!), but my roommates and I agreed that it was some pretty vile stuff. As it turns out, the brand is made in the U.S. so it can be called "bourbon", but is shipped directly back to France to be sold in their market.
You guys just gave me the next tasting idea I have for my colleagues. I work as a liquor consultant at a Binny's and I kind of want to buy the bottom shelf and (minus the EW and Beam) just for the fun of it all.
Then Carstairs for the win !
Evan williams is over 40 proof, and is actually one of my favorite daily drinkers, really goes well with peppery beef or pork
Canadian Mist is the only bottle I've ever thrown away after a party. And I've drank warm beers with cigarette butts in them while cleaning up in the morning.
I've done that too🤢
I think many people that "don't like" whiskey have just experienced some of these cheap nasty examples that would turn anybody away (but the most desperate alcoholics).
Great episode. Laughed my ass off. My cheapest is jack daniels and makers mark.
On NCIS, one of the characters asks Gibbs: "How can you drink that swill?" Gibbs replies: "Easy. It's got alcohol in it."
Oof, Canadian Mist was my first whiskey. Not because I wanted it, but because I found two unopened bottles in my garage after moving to a new house.
It's awful.
lol your dad was cleaning his car windows with that and you decided I’m a hobo alcoholic today?
Not for nothing, but Ten High, Heaven Hill , Old Crow , all are perfectly acceptable low cost alternatives, for me the next step up is my go to is Wild Turkey 101 ! After that it's too expensive to support my intake. 🤔👍😜
Love wild turkey 101.. awesome cheaper daily sipper
I drink Evan williams black as my cheap pull and I'm glad to get that validation in this video from real connoisseurs. Not all of us can afford expensive whiskeys on the regular so I'm glad to know I'm not in the worst ball park
Hell no, EW is great. The 86P is kinda light, but nothing off putting at all. Smells good. If you can get the EW BiB 1.75L should try some of that, esp at $28.
I inherited some 1968-ish vintage "Ole Crow" whiskey glasses (the ones with the stems shaped like a crow), so I need to buy some Old Crow in my uncle's memory. I remember him being a Scotch guy. In the late 60s was Old Crow better than it is now?
Seems like in the 80s the Old Crow recipe was changed. ChatGpt, the never-erring, says Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon Whisky is the closest match to the original Old Crow.
I usually go for Harper, Maker’s, Daniel’s, or Beam because I’m not a huge fan of bourbon, and usually prefer a scotch when going for whisky, so I’ll get more expensive stuff on that end. I use bourbon for highballs, mixing, and occasionally a straight drink here and there. They serve their purpose and don’t destroy my wallet. I haven’t found Evan Williams in Japan yet but I don’t often look out for a decent cheap bourbon, so I don’t know how easy it is to get here. That’s my other issue: I have to be able to get it, and many good whisky brands just don’t sell here, and if they do, they are TOO expensive for what you get. Jim Beam is great for what it is (and I got a free glass in a pack once! 🤣)
The only Canadian whiskeys I have seen in the US that also are sold in Canada are Crown Royal ,Canada Club and Wiser's
