I see why the bushing got worn she keeps her hand on the shifter after changing the gears that will definitely cause them to be worn much faster. very informative video i must add
Great tutorial. Except I'd be very sure to clean that surface of grit before you push that bushing back on it covered in grease that will hold onto that grit. Thank you for the quick instructional
Found your video to change the CV axle doing mine this weekend also my shifter was bad found your other video great job right to the point will be watching more of your videos thanks bro
So sorry for the late question hope I get a response, would this same process work for a 2006 manual Camry ? My shifter feels slightly loose while In gear
Do you know the part number for the entire housing (that you took off with 4 bolts)? One of my pins are loose that the bushing sits under and the metal sleeve spins around
I’m having trouble pushing and turning the lever assembly out of the casing to get to the inner bushing. Is there a trick to this? It looks so simple in your video. It is stuck when i apply pressure downward to turn and release. I’m unable to turn it counter-clockwise. Thanks!
Dirt Garage tried penetrating oil, still can’t get a grip on the thing. It will not turn while depressed. Maybe something is keeping it from depressing entirely, but I can’t remedy the situation. Bummer.
I saw other videos about this and their bushings were shot. I took mine apart and they looked pretty good and noticed yours looked pretty good as well but the gf says it's a big difference? So I might go ahead and change them and see. I have a next gen Tacoma and a little easier than your 4 runner. 2002/240K on it.
Would this be the same for an '02? I bought one and my first thought was, "wow there is so much play in this". I can basically do circles round and round in neutral, and yeah navigating to the right gear the first few times was awkward. Thanks for posting! I am hoping this will stiffen it up a little.
@@samcharles1166 like brand new with the new bushings. Same springs and everything, and it snapped hard and accurately into every gear and it stood straight up again. Not very hard, be ready to clean up years of dust and old grease. Otherwise simple and worthwhile.
Don't take the four bolts out; just twist the spring loaded retainer and take out shift lever. Works on all the older Toyotas, too.
I just pull it out from the top by pushing down and turning the holder instead of removing the 4 bolts which is just extra work.
Works when you don't have to make a vid

So lucky to have a mechanic husband
You’re a huge help! Just did this myself in my 97 4Runner. Thanks!
No worries! Glad I could help 😁
HUGE HELP ... THANK YOU !!!!!
This was super helpful. Thanks!!
this was a great tutorial thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Just did this last night. Added short throw shifter as well 👍🏽
great video, i love how you don’t show the camera what you’re doing half the time 😂
You have to give him some of that vanilla cake tonight 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂
Great video!
Thank you!
The parts you replaced. Do they need some sort of lube or are they put in dry? Thks..jc
Please clarify. The video shows the blue seat and a black rubber washer looking item. Did you replace both or only the blue seat?
What grease do you use, can't find that info anywhere
What about the 4X4 bushing seal? I have a problem with the 4x4 shiftor ... can't find any information on it?
Honestly I have not dealt with this before! But I'll look into it. Maybe replace it for another video. Thanks!
But really should be rather similar to this.
Excellent video. Really helpful.
Thanks! My 97, literally all of my gears look like neutral 😑 should probably do this soon
Oof, that's no good!

Does this work the same for a 2nd gen 4runner?
Your wife is super cute!

two bushings were replaced here? the upper ring and the lower as well?
Yes, uppers and lowers.
@@DirtGarage Thank you! quite helpful.

I also struggled with this! I don't know what to tell you, other than it should turn when you press down. Maybe your not pressing it down far enough?

hey, would this be the same for a 92 pickup
where did you get the replacement bushings?
Ebay

Any reason to take the whole thing out?
Bought the dorman kit on rock auto but then proceeded to buy the toyota OEM kit for like $4 then the dorman one lol I need to swap my trans anyway
I would not reccomend the Rock Auto one. OEM one is the way to go. The one I installed in this video seems to be loose again.
Dirt Garage Thats a bummer, at least i have the OEM set too. I figured it wasnt going to last long

Yes! The same for your 02
@@DirtGarage Thanks a ton for replying, and so soon! Definitely going to get this in the cart and check out, appreciate the info.

@@benkse2010 good tip about the grease, I'll be doing something similar on a 23y/o Celica soon
Woow you solved my problem thanks
Glad I could help!
👍 yes finally someone explain it thanks
You're welcome! Thank you for watching.
What about on a Chevy car 5 speed
Great video . Have you wife stop resting her hand on the shifter between shifts , otherwise you'll be replacing the selected fork soon.😊
Meh, that 4Runner has over 500,000kms on it. If she goes she goes. Makes for more content for me!
Rock auto?
Of course! Feels like a new transmission for like 4 bucks haha
Dirt Garage ouch. When you pay 22.50 with a discount code from marlin.. 😅
youll my life goals
Everything feels much better if its tighter. 😉
Absolutely!
