Hi Elizabeth, it's been over a year since your last reaction to Within Temptation, and I'm glad you're reacting to another song/video. Sharon's vocal performance was outstanding as well as the band/orchestra. Overall, this was a great song for the winter season. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
Sharon is not just the vocalist, she has as much control of the music as Lzzy Hale does. As a composer and lyricist she is top notch, and that makes her THE Empress. Her vocals may not range too far off soprano but her phrasing is very powerful and sincere, Patsy Cline level. And this is a style of music Elizabeth zharoff and her inevitable Charismatica could do with current skills. Not to ship that too much, could decide to go all Angela Gossow on us too lol.
Stand my Ground is brought up so much because it resonates with people. The lyric: that if I don't stand up for myself, no one else will...it is plainly true. Being sang by a female puts it to have even more power.
Now i really want to see you covering her Mother Earth, the song which make me know the band and still is my favorite. And i just didn't know until this day that Ice Queen talk about nature. In the true, most of power metal songs of this time from Scandinavia talks about the nature and how much we have to care about it. Just pick Stratovarius songs like Anthem of the world, Paradise, and so much more. Even today is a currently theme in the metal of this genre.

The dresses are a signature look for Sharon, she always wears them on stage. This song started on a TV station 'the Box' where viewers could request the songs that were going to be played. This got requested a lot and the band blew up shortly after. Another song that broke through at the same time was Nemo from Nightwish. It is how I discovered both bands at the time.

@@kirbys1370 Thanks for the reminer Kirby! I did watch that one as well, but I've been hoping to see her analysis of this specific song pretty much since I started following this channel. Hopefully I can catch the premier.
I know this band since ‘99. Her voice has grown over the ages and is very beautiful. She has one of the best voices my country has to offer. If you compare their older stuff with their newer stuff, then you will understand what I mean.
Imagine 15 or 20 opera singers, incognito in the audience, answering her singing in the chorus part... That would be just amazing, for people in the audience as much as for the artists on stage ^_^
Sharon is next to a great singer, also a very nice person. She and her family life in my village and she is always friendly. If you want to see another side of her and don't mind hear to some other music styles (I listen to all kinds of music) I suggest: Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel - In And Out Of Love Two great Dutch artists with a great collaboration. I remember when I played some Within Temptation for my voice teacher she used that exact word about Sharon's voice - "Pure". her voice is so angelic and ethereal. She's one of my greatest icons.
Her voice reminds me of Kate Bush. So it is fitting that there is even an official cover version of them doing Running Up That Hill. You can find the official music video here on YT.
When I told my son I was getting interested in female lead metal bands like Nightwish he pointed me to Within Temptation. Sometimes our kids really do know what they are talking about. LOL. I cannot wait to see Elizabeth's reaction to this gem.

This song honestly still makes me tear up. I couldn't speak/fully understand English when I heard it for the first time but I could "feel" what she was saying. 21 years later, now being 28yo it's still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. And of course, so much dutch pride for Sharon and the band! Love your content, you are such a lovely person, would love to see you react to more metal/opera/rock music!
One of my fav rendition of this song. too pure, too (at least seemingly) relaxed and easy, too perfect in note and pitch, and its variances, that I don't know a better unchained melody can be sung anytime soon. It's like he is doing something as simple as just talking to you but this heart felt beautiful melody comes out. The relaxed and sincere love just fills the atmosphere and reflected on his face the whole time. I don't know which part he could have done better.
Sharon got nicknamed ice queen because her voice is so bright and high pitched. It feels very icy in a good way. My favourite song by them is "Jillian", it's so powerful. And I also love "the heart of everything." Especially the operatic, non-lyrical part towards the end gives me goosebumps.
You know which channel I think is super underrated? Metal Piano Music. The guy spends weeks composing classic metal songs into classical/relaxing piano pieces and he hardly gets any views. I love his arrangement of Holy Diver by Dio. That dude deserves millions of followers
A quick look at the Wiki entry on Sharon den Adel: "Her musical influences include Tori Amos, Paradise Lost, Nirvana, The Verve, HIM and Bob Marley" Miss Elizabeth will definitely be delighted with these names! So pretty good listening and reaction material I think ... 😁😁😁👍

Omg yes finally! Ice Queen is a song that's ingrained in my brain from the time I still consistently listened to the radio. It got quite some airplay here in Belgium and always made me try (and fail) to sing along
Amazing to see WT back on the channel 🤘 Please also check out the song WT did with Tarja: "Paradise"! The live version at Masters of Rock 2019 is awesome, I'm sure you'll love it 😄 PS: Tea time with Sharon would make for a great talk, she's such a sweetheart 😊
I discovered them while in europe in 97 and been a fan every since. Saw them live in 2007 with lacuna coil, stolen babies, in this moment. And again Oct opening for iron maiden
You have to have Sharon Den Adel to Your tea time!!!))) I am A big fan of Queen and Cannibal Corpse but Withinf Temptation - Another Day is a masterpiece, ask her about this song please!!!
So the musical terminology you are looking for to describe Within Temptation, they are a metal sub-genre called "Symphonic Metal ". My favorite metal genre btw.

I actually had the honor of sharing the stage with this band as a support act back in '98 but I have known them from the very start. Love the band to bits! Her voice has become stronger throught the years and that (imho) was necessary but it's not a voice for power singing. The big pro about a voice like this is that it always will come acoss angelic if not forced to hard.
Whenever I hear Sharon I am blown away that her singing is all self-taught. Also her costumes - she used to work in the fashion industry and apparently designs all her own stage outfits. As for other Within Temptation songs there are loads to recommend - Mother Earth, Neverending Story, Stand My Ground, Our Solemn Hour, Angels (highly recommend the music vid), The Howling, Paradise (What About Us) ft Tarja, Memories and Sinead to name just a few - they have an amazing back catalogue ro choose from.

It always leaves me in awe how good pop an rock singers breathe out so much that the voice can just float in a broad stream of air. I tend to hold in my air too much so that my voice doesn't reach this shimmering kind of airy volume and stableness. Very motivating. Breeeeeathe!!!
i love when you react to Within Temptation. They are a band I've gotten wind of a few years ago and I cannot find a song that I don't like by them. It's incredible how Sharon sounds even though I believe she has no formal vocal training.
I remember going on a road trip as a kid with only two cd’s in the car. One with a cover of the singer in a white dress (Within Temptation) and another band with a singer in a red dress (Hooverphonic). You’ve reacted to both of them now. Happy memories
Elizabeth, I have been following you for some time quietly in the background, I don't comment often. I simply love the genuine passion you have for the human voice as well as the depth of knowledge you possess and freely share with your followers. My wife Joanne has said to me that if she had a singing teacher as inspiring as you instead of an old fashioned teacher who would not extend her beyond opera, she would have continued lessons. Ice Queen is one of the songs that Joanne sings but usually drops it an octave which gives it a very different feel.

I just wanted to say that I love your videos. The way you are able to break down and explain singing to someone without prior knowledge is fantastic, and always on a positive note. A massive thank you!
Nature and life have been a big part of the Within Temptation sound for a long time. The album this track came from is called Mother Earth and features plenty of other themes around this. A fewbyesrs later they did a duo track with Tarja Turanen the former Nightwish vocalist to carry on the coat of arms of the 2 OG's of female metal singers.
Side Note: Sharon studied as a fashion designer, and designs her own stage outfits. Within Temptation has been one of my favorite bands for over a decade now. They are touring the US in 2022.
When Sharon's voice does that ethereal bit as you rightly call it with 'haven't you seen' it always brings a tear to my eye. There's something about her voice that is so innocent.
Great breakdown of Sharon's vocals and the band in general! I'm a longtime fan of Within Temptation's older material, and I really feel like you did them justice. Speaking of Dutch gothic metal bands with a female vocalist who sticks mainly to head voice, I would love to see you react to "Blackbriar - Cry Of A Banshee (Acoustic) [Live]". Zora, the vocalist, has some real chops and that is the song I have people listen to to get them hooked on the band.
I love Within Temptation. My absolute favorite band. I have been listening to them over the last 15 years. I love "The Silent Force" Album. I'm so happy you chose a live performance.

If I am not mistaken I saw her live for the first time in 1999 when she joined dutch punkband Heideroosjes for 1 or a few songs at the Pinkpop festival. Some years later this song was on Dutch radio everywhere and they were pretty big ever since. Saw them perform a few times. Crazy to think that Anneke, Sharon, Floor and Simone are all from my small country. And I have seen them all perform live😁
It seems like her voice makes you... calm...? your own voice gets really smooth. I kinda feel a peaceful pleasure happening in your mind. it's always beautiful to see your reactions. thank you ❤️
Been to this concert. When she raises her hand and the crowd goes "oh-oh" it just seems like you're an extention of her body. Probably the best connection with the crowd I've ever experienced.
"Mother Earth" from their "Black Symphony" concert is really worth listening. It has a full live orchestra! The song is from the same album as "Ice Queen" and is still one of the most popular classics. ua-cam.com/video/u5yyFrfR37I/v-deo.html
Within Temptation was the first big concert I ever went to, and this song in particular was of course the reason we all got into the band in the first place. Haven't heard it in years, but of course it's still excellent!
Ice Queen was always very special to me, huge sentimental value, thank you for covering it. Maybe its the quality of the video but I think there are far superior renditions of this song out there (Dark Symphony for starters maybe?).
I wish people were more careful with their recommendations. Ya all think she's more or less likely to listen to more from them if you recommend a crappy version?
I have already been following a bond for quite some time now. I truly believe that the singer of the band is a pearl gone unnoticed. The band is called black briar. Her voice is just enchanting. I always wanted to know how well she could sing from a vocal coach perspective. The band is "blackbriar". The songs I would recommend are "through the crevice", "liillith be gone" and "beautiful delirium". Some songs have acoustic versions which are just as amazing as the rest. (Coincidentally also a duch singer)
Yup, that one could be placed in the NIGHTWISH "Meadows of Heaven" camp... except WT stay in the enchanted forest / meadows for the duration, and resist the urge to go "big" where NW blow it up to epic proportions at the end. By that, WT have given us an exquisite acoustic enchanted "nature" anthem.
I like "in Perfect Harmony' a lot, it really is soothing. But my favorite from this album, must be "Our Farewell" a ballad which can bring me to tears evertime I hear it.
They are white walkers from Game of Thrones. Also do check out “Jillian” live from the silent force tour. (Specifically the show at Java Island. Double epic.
I got to see them live a couple years ago and they did the most gorgeous acoustic version of this song, one of my favorite moments from any concert I've been to

Wow. I am also a fan since 2003, I also have tickets for that tour that start to look like papyrus. Brother, is that you? :') But I have seen them 4 times if I remember correctly :D
Within Temptation is most definitely in my top 3 of most memorable live performances I've seen
Hi DarkestLost, it's been over a year, but this is actually Elizabeth's 2nd Within Temptation reaction. The first was, "Somewhere," featuring Anneke van Giersbergen on Sept. 2020. Here is a link to the video if you haven't seen it yet: ua-cam.com/video/T015Y59R3ls/v-deo.html
Im a HUge Stratovarious Fan !
@@obsidianwing me too!
Definitely agree, Mother Earth is one of their best
I support Elizabeth reacting to Stratovarius.
"And We Run" by Within Temptation is amazing.
"Paradise (What About Us?)" is also really good, Tarja sings with her and it's fantastic.
YES
Frozen
Totally agree with Paradise( What about us) unbelievably good. They soon so good together 👍
Funny. In my country the song that put them on the spotlight was Memories.
She have an voice like velvet and looks like an angel
I am looking forward to this so much! Discovering this song opened up a whole new world of music to me.

@@kirbys1370 Thanks for the reminer Kirby! I did watch that one as well, but I've been hoping to see her analysis of this specific song pretty much since I started following this channel. Hopefully I can catch the premier.
Do you know 'enter' and 'the dance'? Their first ep and album?
@@mandalorianscum1138 Absolutely.
Can't believe this song is 21 years old.......damn, how time flies.
If you want to see another side of her and don't mind hear to some other music styles (I listen to all kinds of music) I suggest:
Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel - In And Out Of Love
Two great Dutch artists with a great collaboration.

That is amazing that you live near her. How awesome it would be to have Sharon as a neighbor!
Holland?
We need more "Within Temptation" on this channel! Especially "Paradise", the duett with Tarja (Ex- Nightwish)! 🤘
I agree, she really does have one of the best tones in show business.
I love that you can hear in Sharon's voice that she gives it all live.
to me.. she did it better in the earlier days... but maybe that is just me ...
@@gzignl its not you. This version was somehow not that good :(
I remember when I played some Within Temptation for my voice teacher she used that exact word about Sharon's voice - "Pure". her voice is so angelic and ethereal.

My favorite band everrrr! 😍 She sounds like an angel, looks like the snow queen, just.... Blesses my ears every time.
One of my fav. songs is 'The Promise', where she sings with her angelic voice: 'I'll make them bleed down at my feet.' 😏
Witchy;)
Now I need to listen to black symphony again
@@RafitoOoO Hands down one of the best albums produced in mankind history
This song honestly still makes me tear up. I couldn't speak/fully understand English when I heard it for the first time but I could "feel" what she was saying. 21 years later, now being 28yo it's still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. And of course, so much dutch pride for Sharon and the band! Love your content, you are such a lovely person, would love to see you react to more metal/opera/rock music!
Seeing IRON MAIDEN play with Within Temptation in October. I CANNOT WAIT!!!
Same columbus Ohio oct 7
You should do an interview with Sharon! Brilliant singer and favorite song is Withing Temptation - Another Day!
That was an experience. I'm glad I can say within temptation was one of the bands I can say got me into this style of metal. Simply glorious vocals
I can't listen to this song without crying. It was the favorite from a dear friend who was taken from us too soon. Ice Queen was her online tag.
I have tickets to see Within Temptation and Evanescence in April in the UK. Can't wait. Please Covid, don't ruin this for me!
Me too, have tickets for March in Germany. The concert was already shifted twice due to Corona.
I have tickets for Within Temptation and Iron Maiden here in the States. A very different combination but I'm here for it
The fact that you have to wear masks is ruin it for me already tbh....
But apparently we have now masks for eternity 😔
You know which channel I think is super underrated? Metal Piano Music. The guy spends weeks composing classic metal songs into classical/relaxing piano pieces and he hardly gets any views. I love his arrangement of Holy Diver by Dio. That dude deserves millions of followers
A quick look at the Wiki entry on Sharon den Adel: "Her musical influences include Tori Amos, Paradise Lost, Nirvana, The Verve, HIM and Bob Marley"
Miss Elizabeth will definitely be delighted with these names! So pretty good listening and reaction material I think ... 😁😁😁👍

Hey Kirby S. 🤘Thank you, I'll have a look after the premiere today ... 👍
Paradise Lost from when though? Preferably not their brief stint in the majors.
I remember seeing this band when I stayed in Germany back in 2003. I heard this song for the first time and I fell in love with this band! Thanks for sharing this and giving your pro and entertaining perspective on this amazing performance!
Such a great band. "Memories" is one of my favorites from Withing Tempatation. Especially in combination with the Music Video!
Thank you for reminding me how much I love that era of Within Temptation's music. This takes me back to high school.
Omg yes finally! Ice Queen is a song that's ingrained in my brain from the time I still consistently listened to the radio. It got quite some airplay here in Belgium and always made me try (and fail) to sing along
Amazing to see WT back on the channel 🤘
Please also check out the song WT did with Tarja: "Paradise"! The live version at Masters of Rock 2019 is awesome, I'm sure you'll love it 😄
PS: Tea time with Sharon would make for a great talk, she's such a sweetheart 😊

I discovered them while in europe in 97 and been a fan every since. Saw them live in 2007 with lacuna coil, stolen babies, in this moment. And again Oct opening for iron maiden
I was at the first 3 of those shows in 2007, which stop did you see them on?

In this concert they made a cover of Black sabbath too where Sharon got some of their darkest tones along with their brightest, it's pure gold!
Her hit song with the max of the higkest highs...
LOVE LOVE LOVE SHARON...
from grit to bird high. ...AN ANGEL ON EARTH.

I saw Within Temptation live just once at a festival... during Ice Queen, the sound system surrendered XD
and here, no bass no guitar ...
Her voice is absolutely beautiful, especially considering she never really was taught to sing and trained and learned by herself.

@@kirbys1370 Cool, I'll check it out 😊
It always leaves me in awe how good pop an rock singers breathe out so much that the voice can just float in a broad stream of air. I tend to hold in my air too much so that my voice doesn't reach this shimmering kind of airy volume and stableness. Very motivating. Breeeeeathe!!!
SHARON IS AMAZING, ONE METAL QUEEN, ONE ALBUM THE UNFORGIVING IS AWESOME
I was at this concert and it was an amazing experience. Also, a lot of the audience was dressed up for the occasion.
i love when you react to Within Temptation. They are a band I've gotten wind of a few years ago and I cannot find a song that I don't like by them. It's incredible how Sharon sounds even though I believe she has no formal vocal training.
This is the very song that introduced me to Within Temptation.
Ah this was a really big hit here in the Netherlands at the time! It's what got me interested in symphonic metal 🙂 Looking forward to this!

Congratulation for 700k subscribers! 🏆
Thank you! AND I LOVE THE USERNAME!!!
Side Note: Sharon studied as a fashion designer, and designs her own stage outfits. Within Temptation has been one of my favorite bands for over a decade now. They are touring the US in 2022.
Yes, with Iron Maiden if I'm not mistaken.
When Sharon's voice does that ethereal bit as you rightly call it with 'haven't you seen' it always brings a tear to my eye. There's something about her voice that is so innocent.
Dude, Forgiven? Holy crap that song does things to me. Its stunning
I love your reactions to Sharon Den Adel! I can feel you're really enjoying doing it! So genuine! ❤

Hype for more WiT reactions :D
It seems like her voice makes you... calm...? your own voice gets really smooth. I kinda feel a peaceful pleasure happening in your mind. it's always beautiful to see your reactions. thank you ❤️
Good choice. One of WT’s best songs.
You misspelled worst or maybe popular, which doesn't mean much when looking at quality.
I really think WT has waaay better songs than this one, but everyone's tastes are different 😁
Oh please do this one ❤😢
Within Temptation was the first big concert I ever went to, and this song in particular was of course the reason we all got into the band in the first place. Haven't heard it in years, but of course it's still excellent!
As someone already mentioned: Sharon is an autodidact, meaning her vocal abilities are SELF-TAUGHT.
Mainly self-taught...
It is a real choir and orchestra singing in the background
Elizabeth introduced The Temptations to my girl.
She's quite the matchmaker then, because I heard that she also introduced the Chordettes to Mr. Sandman.
Ahhhhh... One of my all time favorites of this group.
My favorite song of theirs is Sinead. Sharon has an amazing voice.
The stage presence is pretty amazing , First time I have seen them perform .
3 years ago, I happened to attend a concert Within Temptation when they came to our city. It was unforgettable 🔥 Sharon has amazing vocals 😍
WT !!! Another great band !!! (Check Black Symphony: Within Temptation & Metropole Orchestra... Awesome performance).
(Coincidentally also a duch singer)
if you are interested in a song from them that steps almost entirely away from their metal side, i would recommend the song "In Perfect Harmony".
Jillian is just a really good number and yeah the Silent Force tour version is great although I prefer the Black Symphony concert version.
To quote my favourite Formula 1 driver, Kimi "Iceman" Raikkonen: "Fucking finally."
