@Phyl Newbold he told family early on and then later his band guys. No one else knew (but many in the public suspected) that he had AIDS until he announced it a day before his death.
When he's freaking out in the beginning...And all I can think is: "You're not even to the best part yet!!" Also, Brian May's guitar solos in this song are unmatched.
Bekah, I have to totally agree with you about Brian. That one between the first a second movement...in a strong field, best solo ever. Every time he makes the second run up to the seventh, I get tears in my eyes.
There are real voices out there that still sound great today, what makes Freddie Mercury different tho is he was born with a vocal chord that let him hit those impossibly high notes and also gives him insane amounts of range when singing.
I usually hate these react videos, but his genuine reaction is what most of us went through really hearing this song for the first time and I absolutely love seeing how happy he is experiencing this masterpiece
@@rban123”ahead of their time” suggests the quality of music gets better with time, it doesn’t, that’s what I meant. I know what you mean though, Queen were brilliant.
There was a band in the 2010's that never got really big, but they carried a "Queen 2.0" vibe pretty well. Name totally escapes me right now. But the singer did a good job at sounding like his own style while you could CLEARLY catch the Freddie influence. There was a rock component similar to Queen, however they leaned into a kind of retro-funk style more, which gave them their own flavor. One of these days I'll remember the name, lol.
@@thinkingoutloud3757 I’ve no doubt that the talent is out there these days, but recording companies don’t take risks any more. When they release “new music” they know young people will like it because they’ve heard it all before and they liked it last time. In the 70’s almost all music was experimental and lots of it was rubbish, but that is what you have to put up with to find the gems. Some people say it will come good again and I really hope they’re right. The same thing has happened to the movie industry in Hollywood. I can remember the days when a couple of great movies were released almost weekly, now it’s more like yearly.
Son, if you haven't listened to any Queen, in your lifetime, you are missing out on one of the most talented musical geniuses of all time. All of the band were creative but, Freddie Mercury was, by far, one of the most gifted creators of music who ever lived. His life was cut short by AIDS and the world is a sadder place without him.
I agree, I'm ashamed I never had a chance to see them perform in person at a concert, but I did hear and see a few broadcasts of them performing, and I and my cousins did watch their LiveAid performance. I just wonder what wonders and magic the four of them could have given us had he still been with us the past few decades.
I think this is the best reaction to Queen, Bohemian and Freddie I've ever seen... because you clearly understand the vocal talent on show. He's arguably the greatest male vocalist of all time.
As a Brit, I always find it wild when someone hasn’t heard Queen. Their music runs through our veins. Brought me so much joy watching this reaction, I wish I could relive hearing it the first time! Freddie was taken from us too soon
This is called natural God given talent. No auto tune, no computer assistance! Just 4 musicians who could actually play, 1 engineer and a 24 track studio. I cry for those days again!
Brother, that's why you gotta live every day and decade to the fullest and realize where you are! Might realize even 10 or 20 years from now "Damn, man, I miss the 20s!"
To be fair what we think of as autotune, pitch correction isn't always the bad thing people think of it as, and they did use it like most people in the industry, but that doesn't take away from their incredible talent!
Imagine being raised in a world where this was the base-line standard for performance and creativity. No auto-tune, no digital recording. Skill and imagination.
He is an alto, not using falsetto. Falsetto involving forcing your voice to a higher register, it is Roger's normal signing voice. Alto is less common than bass, tenor or counter-tenor, and is closest to soprano for adult male voices. I used to sing in a choir so have known altos, this is what Roger is. Those who thinks he uses falsetto, tend not to be aware of this. He may occasionally use falsetto, though his normal singing voice is high in the register for adult males.
@@ninagray4441 I don't think he's an alto I mean, he's up there in the higher range but he's not that high. He uses falsetto, head and mixed chest voice, bu not full on chest voice for those bits. You can tell because big how tense his deliveries are.
Actually more like a 500 year bolt of musical lightening. And there's nothing quite like watching someone plugging into all 3 phases of that electrical energy as you just did. You got it first time through where many take 3-4 listens to get all that. Congrats!
There's nothing quite like watching someone plugging into all 3 phases of that electrical energy as you just did. You got it first time through where many take 3-4 listens to get all that. Congrats! Also if you'd like to be further blown away check out Marc Martel covering this tune on piano (all by himself). I'm sure he made Freddy proud.
I’m a 66 year old vocalist. IMHO, this is the finest piece of contemporary music written in the past 50 years-the rise and fall of the melody, key modulations, descants, tempo variations-and that’s not even counting the sophistication of the lyrics!! God bless Freddy, may his heavenly home ring with his talent.
Once upon a time I was a choral singer, and I had a range of about 3 and a half octaves but it hit right at my break and I never had the talent to sing through it. 4 octaves AND powering through the break. Breathtaking.
Freddie Mercury was really THAT good. Love seeing the reaction of somebody getting their first dose of his god-like voice. Also, Brian May (the guitarist) is really just so damned good.
This is what my generation grew up listening to…pure, no electronic enhancement. There was nothing better than going to a live concert…Queen, Chicago, Kiss…etc…
@Chris P Chicken Sandwich Correct, but it wasn't introduced as "autotune" until 1997, six years after Freddie's death. The device used earlier was, as you say, quite different (and not nearly as effective) as Hildebrand's processor.
@RapGuyFNXBLTTVYT The best way to check if a singer can truly sing is to hear them live. And Freddy was life as good as on his albums. Something very few others can claim. ua-cam.com/video/OVzvoPP6M50/v-deo.html&ab_channel=QueenLiveShow
in 2016 scientific study (prof Christian Herbst) confirms, Freddie had an unparalleled singing voice. His vocal range F2-F6 (4 octaves) but that what makes his voice so special was extremely fast vibrato 7.04 Hz and subharmonics. He was able to create several more layers of harmonics than anyone else. Freddie was using a subharmonics by vibrating his ventricular folds, a technique usually found only in Tuvan throat One of the conclusions from the studies was that"He was vibrating something in his throat that even Pavarotti couldn't move".
Melts my heart to see young folks get to know the genius of Queen and Freddie. One of the greatest bands ever and regarding performers, second to none.
Greatest live band I've ever seen. I saw them live in Pittsburgh in 1974 (the only time they were here). Freddie Mercury owned the stage, greatest front man ever. I'll give Mick Jagger from The Rolling Stones #2, Rodger Daltrey of The Who probably #3. I've seen these bands all live and Freddie was the greatest. When I say greatest live band ever, that's coming from a guy who saw starting with The Beatles in Pittsburgh in 1964 at the ripe old age of seven. Seen them all with bands mentioned above along with The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd to name a few. One show I'll rank up there with a Queen performance and that's when I saw Simon & Garfunkel live at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh in 1990 on their one year reunion tour and easily the biggest Pot Party concert I've ever attended, it was a phenomenal show. Peace ❤
@@dougsusie2319oh I envy you so much for having seen them! I was born in 1990 so was only 1 when Freddie passed away - I was lucky enough to grow up listening to his and Queen’s music though, thanks to my family who are all fans 🙂
@@vellichords Thanks for your comment vellichords. I've been very fortunate, I guess being fortunate enough to be born in 1958 which allowed me to grow up with all of the incredible music in the sixties and seventies. I saw The Beatles at age six at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh in 1964, the only time they were here. One can never fully appreciate just how crazy Beatlemania was unless you witnessed it first hand. Saw the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Bob Dylan 5 times, Paul McCartney twice, Ringo and his traveling All Starr Bands 4 times. Fortunate enough to see George Harrison at the Civic Arena in 73 or 74 at the Civic Arena, only time he came to Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, John Lennon never toured so never saw him. For me, I'd say Queen was the greatest live band I've ever seen, Freddie owned the stage, greatest front man ever with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones a close second and probably Rodger Daltrey of The Who. The most exciting event though was The Beatles. They had no front man, Lennon and McCartney were both front men. We know The Beatles were a great live band, problem was though is that no one could hear them but for energy and excitement they were unmatched. Like I said, Queen was the greatest live band ever in my opinion but the greatest concert I ever saw was at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh in 1990 and that was Simon & Garfunkel (Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel) who reunited for a US tour. If you're not familiar with them then ask your parents who they were. Between 1964-70 they were incredible. I would describe their genre as folk rock. They had a bunch of hits and their albums are all great. This show was 50,000 hippies just smoking pot, chilling and vibing out to this incredible duo and their back up band was great. Biggest outdoor pot party I've ever attended and it was all peace and love and an incredible show. Let me close with, I saw a biography on I think A&E a few years ago on Freddie Mercury and he stated that as a teen he was being trained as a classical pianist and an opera singer and then in 1963 he heard The Beatles song "She Loves You" on the radio and he knew right then that one day he would be in a rock band. That's how important The Beatles were and still are to popular music history. In just six short years they not only changed music history but also pop culture history. No Beatles, no Queen, no Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, The Doors and the list goes on and on. They are by far the most CREATIVE and influential band in history. They showed the older generation that pop music could be much more than just catchy little boy, girl love songs. They showed that pop music could be an art form. Their studio recordings starting in December,1965 with the release of their iconic "Rubber Soul" Lp through their last Lp "Abbey Road" released in September, 1969 are unparalleled. Sorry Swifties but Taylor Swift couldn't make a pimple on The Beatles or any of these iconic bands asses. Peace
@@dougsusie2319 wow you’ve seen so many incredible artists! I grew up surrounded by The Beatles since I’m from Liverpool - the music scene is huge at home, likely because of them and their influence. Most I ever saw of them was Ringo Starr drumming on top of St George’s Hall in the city centre when we were given the 2008 European Capital of Culture award 😂 I never would’ve thought Simon & Garkunkel would top Queen performance wise but I do love their music and that show sounds like it’d be awesome. It’d definitely be the kind of show I would’ve enjoyed! My nan was born in 1950, so she grew up with all that great music and Beatlemania, but she got more into Queen and never seemed to show The Beatles that much attention - she always played lots of Queen when I was a kid, or Meat Loaf. I know Freddie had previously said his favourite artist was John Lennon, so I can imagine they will have had a huge influence on him growing up and I’m glad they did
Those who haven't, are usually in the younger generations, those that don't believe any decent music existed before hip-hop/(K)rap & so choose not to listen to it.
There are many classical songs much older than that I haven’t heard but I’m still surprised when I find reactors who have never heard the songs I grew up listening to.
Not just that old, it's freaking EPIC, and there was a movie about the band recently. You also have to put in in perspective. This is a young black man, I'm old, white, I guarantee he's listened to more music I listen to, than vise versa. But yea, it's kind of crazy anyone hasn't heard this. But here we are.🤷♂
So when they recorded this song, Freddie Mercury gave everyone only their parts of this song and then they recorded only their parts without hearing anything else. He then took this into the studio and layered all the parts together into this amazingness. Everyone thought he was crazy until they heard the finished song. He is maybe the most talented singer songwriter producer ever. And he loved every kind of music, he wrote songs that sound like they were written for Elvis, he wrote an opera aria for his favorite soprano about her home town. He was amazing.
I liked Freddie but Elvis was a better singer he was a better all around looks and everything Play a song by both of them side-by-side and you'll get it 3 great entertainers Elvis Freddie Michael
@@maryrowell1122 Elvis is a wonderful singer. But Freddie Mercury's vocal range covered 3 octaves and is still the most unique I've ever heard. He could hit so many varying notes it was incredible.
@@maryrowell1122 Elvis had a very nice voice, and he knew how to sing. The songs? Well, apart from Jailhouse Rock, and Blue Suede Shoes, they were pretty much bubblegum.
No autotune. No synthesizers. Just a band playing music and good vocals. Most of the time their live performances are better than the recordings. You’re gonna love them.
Freddie had one of the very best voices in history, the other voice is Roger Taylor, the drummer. The lead guitarist is Brian May and bass is John Deacon. When they first wanted to release it EVERYONE said NO, it’s way too long, no one will play it, but Freddie insisted, the rest is history
I guess I'm doing this everywhere now, but I just have to say Brian is also one of the best singers I've ever heard. His voice just isn't standing out in a lot of Queen songs since he has a very soft, very "anti-rock" voices. I'd recomment checking out No one but you (Only the good die young) to understand the beauty of all of their voices. If you give credit to Roger, you must also give credit to Brian (and Deacy, but Deacy didn't sing lead).
@@DualityofLife you are totally right, every one of them were truly amazing, not just singing and playing their instruments, but composing and arranging as well! All four made up Queen, it’s just that Freddie was such a genius and a personality that it’s a little hard to shine when he’s around!
Yes the record company were against this song as a single, so the band gave a copy to a radio dj friend who played it. Then his listeners kept on requesting it.
it was actually the amazing Kenny Everett (brilliant radio DJ) that Freddie played it to, because the radio stations wanted most of it to be taken out as its 6 minutes long, and Kenny said "don't lose any of it, you keep the whole thing" and promptly played it in its entirety, 3 times on the trot on his show.
"Did you hear that vibrato?!" Oh shit man, if you've not just only heard snippets, but you've never heard the full, undeniable glory of Mercury's vocal talents, you're in for one hell of a fucking treat.
It’s awesome when ppl don’t think they’ve ever heard Queen, but, it’s pretty safe to say WWRY & WATC has been heard by everyone, even if in snippets. They just don’t know who it is lol!! Once you’re in with FM; you’re in.
The best part of that is that in the opening it is not Queen(Band Members) doing the Harmony it is ALL Freddy. Apparently they did so many overdubs that the Tape(yes tape) was near see thru.
@@MsUltrafox absolutely. I miss him. R.I.P Freddie ❤❤❤ Listen to Mark Martel his voice is so similar to Freddie. They used his vocal in Bohemian rapsody movie. Listen to his Bohemian rapsody on yt I love it ❤❤
I had the pleasure and honor of seeing Queen in concert 3 times and Freddy Mercury's voice was just as good live as it was recorded. There was no auto tune in those days and Freddy's range, pitch, and tone were astonishing.
Being speechless is the normal reaction to hearing an angel sing. Welcome to Queen. Prepare to have your mind blown as you continue your journey through their catalog.
Queen was one of the rare collections of pure, raw musical talent. The riffs, rhythm, vocals, creativity, and sheer balls to just make something like this
“I’m pretty sure he has live performances” got me. Only the best live performance of all time in Live Aid. They are all amazing. Edit-When I said they are all amazing I was actually referring to all their live performances. (Of course every member is amazing as well.) sorry for the confusion.
The whole first part is just Freddy overlaying himself it's not the whole band and then later on it is the entire band singing together welcome to Queen
@@alethamarsh6583 I literally told you, that it wasn't a big deal, you must've thought it was, because in the contrary you were the one who replied when I was telling you that it wasn't a big deal stop being so soft and read what I say next time...😉
"One of the best things you have ever heard." Freddy Mercury is and was one of the best singers with a range that no other singer has. And his shows were interactive. Meaning he set out to involve the audience in his performances. A true musician and excellent performer. RIP Freddy.
While I obviously agree that Freddy was incredible, I would counter that Ronnie Radke also has a ridiculous amount of range. He has a beautiful voice, with a stunning falsetto, he can Rap in various tempos and styles, he can sing sustained Screaming and Growling while still remaining melodic, and he can perform Operatically (as seen particularly in his video I'm Not A Vampire Revamped).
Also there is proof of Bohemian Rhapsody's effect - watch the crowd at a Greenday concert in Hyde Park, 2017, sing it - they played Bohemian Rhapsody over the speakers and tens of thousand people singing all of Bohemian Rhapsody is amazing
Yes!! You MUST see the crowd at the Green Day concert in Hyde Park, London 2017. It's just the crowd(65,000+)....NO ONE is on the stage! Music is always played over the P.A. system in between bands, BUT when Bohemian Rhapsody starts playing......what happens is LEGENDARY and inspiring!! Freddie STILL had the crowd in the palm of his hands 27 years after his passing, all the way from Heaven.... It was so amazing that the band Green Day, themselves, posted it on their website to share with the world!! You'll NEVER see anything like it....
The best thing about it is that Greenday decided to continue playing it before their shows and it wasn’t just a one off occurrence in England. You can find videos of both American and Argentinian audiences singing along as the crew sets up the stage!!
This was the purest reaction to hearing Freddie sing for the first time. You grin from ear to ear says it all. Greatest rock vocalist to ever live. Was taken way too soon.
These comments sum up the absurdity of the internet so well. The 1st comment incorrectly states that Freddie Mercury was trained to sing opera AND misspells the man's name and, as of 1/14/23, has 180 thumbs up. The 2nd comment accurately points out that Freddie WASN'T trained to sing opera AND spells his name correctly and it has only 5 thumbs up. Allowing for the fact that the 1st comment has existed for 10 times longer, we still have a False/Truth ratio of 180 to 50.
@@clintonsmith5163 unfortunately sometimes we cannot get the truth out there. I have repeated this time and again. His singing was not the best to begin with, as said by Roger and Brian. But once he reigned his vibrato in he got progressively better. He would repeat and repeat his lyrics until he felt he got what he wanted from his voice, singing and sound. Freddie was a true professional through and through. They all were. This is how and why they played with precision in live concerts. Some singers have to work at their sound, as Freddie did. But as I always reply to people, he never had training or lessons. A remarkable man of talent.
"I love his voice" you, me and every other person that has ever heard Queen. Freddie Mercury had a vocal talent we were lucky enough to capture, and we probably won't ever hear someone like this again in our lifetime.
Young man, Freddie has the most recognizable, beautiful, voice of that era and yes he was a rock musical genius! Some of us girls out there absolutely loved his looks as well! Watch Freddie sing "Somebody to Love' in concert on UA-cam.
Best genuine reaction I have ever seen.. The smile that never leaves your face while listening to the greatest song ever!! It's a masterpiece do you agree?
I don't know how I ended up here but clearly, the Universe decided I needed some joy in my life tonight. Thank you, I loved your reaction. Freddy Mercury can never be replaced.
It’s like watching a spiritual awakening and we all have been there for sure. Queen was something else entirely. This song alone is a huge fucking experience all in itself like, just a hell of a ride. You getting excited about the vibrato made my inner music geek so happy.
The first time hearing Bohemian Rhapsody, having never heard Queen before, something happened in my brain. I could feel it. New synaptic pathways were permanently burned inside my brain, I’m not even joking. I’ve been a fan ever since.
Everyone thinks that because it was "before Autotune" that there was no enhancements. We had enhancements. We could fill in a weak, weedy voice, add reverb, tweak the highs, add distortion. The one thing we couldn't fix was if you were pitchy. And sorry, but there are times when even Freddie was pitchy. Pretty much anyone who sings will be pitchy once in a while.
@@Goncalo_LA Technically, everyone's voice is one of a kind. Not to take anything away from Freddie, but I wasn't commenting on his voice. I was commenting on the use of enhancements. And even Freddie's voice was enhanced, just like every other recording artist.
Freddie Mercury was a freakin’ ICON! That’s the real deal. Music isn’t made like this anymore. It’s a treat that we have social media to enjoy these classics.
Welcome to the QUEENDOM!! Queen has over 15 albums not including their solo work & live performances! All members of Queen are in the Song Writer’s Hall of Fame & Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. They even have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!! Freddie still voted as the #1 rock vocalist in the world. Brian May voted best guitarist by Guitar Magazine! Are you ready for the Queen rabbit hole? Well, there’s tons of Queen fans who’ll be happy to be your guide thru this wonderland of magic! Time for a live performance of SOMEBODY TO LOVE live at Milton Keynes 1982 or Montreal 1981. 💗👑💗👑💗👑
Trivia bit: Dr. Brian May (lead guitarist) researched space dust in the Milky Way Galaxy 🌌 & provided the quantum info needed to determine the actual diameter size of galaxy in light years. He's still on UA-cam giving guitar tips & space science info. Nice guy. He & Roger (drummer) still play together. Roger went to Dental School before joining queen full time. The bass player is an electrical engineer. Freddie was schooled in art & design. Talent AND Brains! That's Queen! 💖
Yes, Milton Keynes is wonderful, the entire concert offers many great performances. But please don't overlook their early 70's with Live at the Rainbow, and Live at the Odeon, Hammersmith. White Queen is a must see performance, along with You Take My Breath Away 1976 at Hyde Park
66 yrs old here, I remember like it was yesterday, listening to this doing the housework. It was number 1 forever. Never got tired of hearing it on the radio.
Dude, I’ve watched your reaction 100 times. It kills me every time. I love how much you love Freddie’s voice. I love how specifically you appreciate him. It makes me so happy to know he lives on in youngsters like you. 💕
I remember the first day the single was released on the radio! The next day all my friends were asking “did you hear that song last night? It sounded like opera and some guy was singing mama Mia”?! The rest is Queen fan for life history! 💖
I listened to it for the 1st time when I was a teenager back in the 80s. And this still is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. Freddy was a genius. Rest in peace, Freddy...
Since I've been listening to Queen for ages, I find it hard to believe that there are still people who haven't heard 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' But of course, there are. Man, I just found this video. Bro, you made me cry. You took me back to the first time I listened to this masterpiece when I was thirteen. I literally cried watching you react like that. Your hands shaking was everything. Thank you.
Now you know why us baby boomers miss our “type” of music! This is what we grew up with! Freddy Mercury had one of the largest range in music to date, something like four octaves. He was the falsetto you picked out. You should check out his autobiography on utube. Explains him so well! I loved seeing your reaction to the musical genius of Queen!
The falsetto he picked out in the opera section was Roger Taylor. He did that in a lot of Queen songs, for example the intro to In the Lap of the Gods. As well as Freddie, both Roger Taylor and Brian May had great voices too. Edit: Rogers falsetto on In the Lap of the Gods, live at The Rainbow, is something else. You simply have to hear it and appreciate how awesome Rogers voice is.
One study on Freddie's vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves!
Each part was recorded on separate tracks, and layered over each other when they recorded this. It was all done in analogue, no digital back then with either audio or video!
My children have known their whole lives, that when that part comes on, we headbang. Doesn't matter where you are, you headbang or your are out of the family! Y'all know "the part"! 😉👍
@Liite check out his performance at Live Aid in 85, considered one of, if not the greatest live set ever. Somebody in another comment called Freddys voice "natural God Given Talent. That's literally true. Freddy was born with four extra teeth in his mouth which is what gave him that incredible vibrato and multi octave range.
@@inspectorconscious2388 He sounds like a very interesting man. I will look into his work when I have some time. Could you recommend some of his best work for me to take a look at? Thanks.
Your reaction watching Queen was perfect. Now watch Queen's performance at Wembley UK for Live Aid in 1985. Freddie was one of the greatest showmen and we sorely miss him.
FUN FACT...The lead guitar player Brian May earned a PhD degree in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007, and was Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University from 2008 to 2013. He was a "science team collaborator" with NASA's New Horizons Pluto mission. He is also a co-founder of the awareness campaign Asteroid Day. I AM A 69 YR OLD HIPPIE WOMAN AND THIS WARMS MY HEART TO SEE YOU APPRECIATE THE JOY OF OUR GENERATIONS MUSIC!! 🥰🥰
First line out of Freddie's mouth: "OMG, that vibrato!" Me: oh, he's about to have an eargasm. Seriously, that was a joyful experience for me. The next best thing to discovering Queen when their album released is watching other people discover Queen.
It always amazes me when I find people who have never heard Queen.... and Bohemian Rhapsody in particular. It's such an iconic song from such an iconic group. (You were redeemed a little bit when you said "I've heard this part." 😂)
Heads up, it gets more views of you say it's your first time hearing one of the most famous songs of all time, that has been in a thousand movies, and in every supermarket and elevator
Yeah exactly. You only have to be alive to know this song. Not only has it been one of the most played songs of all time for decades, it was literally every where when the rubbish film came out a couple of years ago. You'd have to live under an actual rock not to know it or be deaf, dumb and blind. But they have to pretend it's their first time and almost everyone else colludes in that illusion. It's pretty weird if you think about it lol. They're not really fooling anybody with half a brain and yet those people act like they genuinely believe it's their first time listening 🤔 thing is, they could easily say it's a review of a song they've heard and people would still watch.
This is probably the best reaction video I’ve seen to this song. I love the fact that your hands were shaking while you were lost in the song. I absolutely love your educated appreciation of such an amazing song.
Imagine the impact it had on us in our teens and twenties when we first heard it on release in the early 70's. Just blown away... Great seeing a similar reaction from you.
Yes I was an early Queen fan - right from Keep Yourself Alive - used to listen to this 6 times an hour with headphones on (there's seemingly always more to hear!)
Freddie Mercury's voice is pure gold and is one of the most distinguished sounding to ever sing a song on planet Earth..RIP to a legend...Queen's legacy will always live on for generations....so thankful for Freddie's contribution to the music world...thanks for sharing this video/song...awesome reaction video! ✌
And a new Queen fan is born😈 Yes, that is his real voice. Yes, that is his voice, along with his band members voices (all very much real) in the back ground. All of Freddie's videos were before their time (check out I Want to Break Free). The drummer had the highest pitch and Freddie wasn't happy until Roger sang as high as he possibly could. Brian May is a guitar God! This was the longest song played on the radio when it was released and opened the door for longer songs. It almost wasn't put out there. But you should definitely check out more of their stuff.
Yes there are plenty live performances, and believe it or not Freddie was better live than studio recordings, so definitely check some out. Wembley Stadium is good or Live Aid. If you do Live Aid I suggest you do the whole 20 minute set and not break it up like some people do when reacting. It went down as the best performance in rock history, so if you break it up you wont get the full effect or the passion of the concert. He is, was, and always will be a vocal God that no one can match. You have guys out there like Mark Martel that sound like him, but do not have the control nor power that Freddie had. He was able to sing almost any note from the bottom of keyboard to the top, and could just jump from one register to another without having to work his way up to the note or down. Welcome to the Queen Army, I know you will enjoy the rabbit hole you just fell into, they NEVER disappoint! Great reaction vid, and just subbed 😁
Finally a true and genuine reaction video. Really appreciate watching this. U made me realize that I took for granted Freddie's talent cuz Queen was one of the first bands i ever listened to in my mom's car. Love this video man. Got a subscriber.
Nothing better then watching someone hear Queen for the first time.
Yes. I've been thinking the same : )
Absolutely! Especially when the reaction is soooo emotional.💖

There are real voices out there that still sound great today, what makes Freddie Mercury different tho is he was born with a vocal chord that let him hit those impossibly high notes and also gives him insane amounts of range when singing.
it was because of his 4 extra teeth not vocal chords@@mulanomula
His vocal range was because of extra teeth? Don't be ridiculous.
@@gheller2261 it was actually because of his vocal chords and teeth which made his jaw sit in a perfect spot to hit those high notes.

They weren’t “ahead of their time”, they were in their time, the golden years of popular music.
Yes they absolutely were ahead of their time. Who made music like that back then besides Queen? Nobody.
He actually said the video was ahead of it's time, which it was. It was years ahead.
To be fair what we think of as autotune, pitch correction isn't always the bad thing people think of it as, and they did use it like most people in the industry, but that doesn't take away from their incredible talent!

Roger ( the drummer ) is the falsetto. Any dog whistle note is him.
Ha! Ha! Ha! 🤣 Right!
I know so many people has a crush on him too and I don't blame em he has a nice face
Freddie can also get up there with him almost as high as him.
@@ninagray4441 I don't think he's an alto I mean, he's up there in the higher range but he's not that high. He uses falsetto, head and mixed chest voice, bu not full on chest voice for those bits. You can tell because big how tense his deliveries are.

Freddie *IS* one of a Kind 😎💞🔥💞😎
in 2016 scientific study (prof Christian Herbst) confirms, Freddie had an unparalleled singing voice. His vocal range F2-F6 (4 octaves) but that what makes his voice so special was extremely fast vibrato 7.04 Hz and subharmonics.
He was able to create several more layers of harmonics than anyone else.
Freddie was using a subharmonics by vibrating his ventricular folds, a technique usually found only in Tuvan throat
One of the conclusions from the studies was that"He was vibrating something in his throat that even Pavarotti couldn't move".
Wow, that is so cool! Thanks for the info!
That's what made him so unique and incredible!
I think we are so used to these songs we forget how incredible he was sometimes
Who's Pavarotti? Italian? Nevermind I'll google it. Thnx
Just FYI, the result of the study suggested THREE octaves, not four =)

Melts my heart to see young folks get to know the genius of Queen and Freddie. One of the greatest bands ever and regarding performers, second to none.
I get depressed every time I think about him. I am only a few years too young to have seen them.

Was thinking that myself. I swear you can see Freddie in the sunset at one point.

Freddy Mercury trained in opera. No auto tune, no tricks or gimmicks, just pure talent. He was an original.
Love your reaction! 🥰
Freddie was never trained to sing. He did practice and practice though to make himself better. He did however have piano lessons to grade 4.
Mea culpa. Sorry, Freddie.
He never had any formal training whatsoever.
"I love his voice" you, me and every other person that has ever heard Queen. Freddie Mercury had a vocal talent we were lucky enough to capture, and we probably won't ever hear someone like this again in our lifetime.

This was so much fun to watch you appreciate the amazingness that was QUEEN. We grew UP on this music... so glad you enjoyed it! :)
Young man, Freddie has the most recognizable, beautiful, voice of that era and yes he was a rock musical genius! Some of us girls out there absolutely loved his looks as well! Watch Freddie sing "Somebody to Love' in concert on UA-cam.
His "genius" only so far as he _wrote_ this song and then had to talk the band and record label into doing it.
Best genuine reaction I have ever seen.. The smile that never leaves
your face while listening to the greatest song ever!! It's a masterpiece do you agree?
The boost in serotonin and oxytocin listening to Queen and seeing your reaction has been amazing. Thanks so much!
You love that guitar? Brian couldn't afford one so he built his own known as the "Red Special" and he still plays it today.
If I remember the interviews correctly, together with his dad out of a 300 year old oak mantelpiece...
Brian May composed the solo 5:30
But the new red special to buy is insanely expensive, irony anyone
He also has a PhD in astrophysics and worked with NASA.
And instead of a pick, he used a sixpence coin, which gave his picking that distinctive, slightly scratchy sound.
FM was simply one of the greatest singing voices ever. A natural baritone with a 4 octave range.
When someone is blown away before the song really starts, you know he's going to hit the stratosphere when it really gets going.
I don't know how I ended up here but clearly, the Universe decided I needed some joy in my life tonight. Thank you, I loved your reaction. Freddy Mercury can never be replaced.
I agree with you
You are absolutely right!!
I've watched your reaction to queen countless times and I never get tired of your absolute awe of freddy and the band
this was before auto tune when artist had talent and yes this is his real voice and he was amazing
@@TheBarkinFrog yeah but Freddie voice is one of a kind and its super rare to find someone whith that great voice... Queen are the GOAT period
@@Goncalo_LA Technically, everyone's voice is one of a kind. Not to take anything away from Freddie, but I wasn't commenting on his voice. I was commenting on the use of enhancements. And even Freddie's voice was enhanced, just like every other recording artist.
@@TheBarkinFrog exactly, every every artist uses autotune, it doesn’t matter how good they are, it’s just pitch correction
Freddie Mercury was a freakin’ ICON! That’s the real deal. Music isn’t made like this anymore. It’s a treat that we have social media to enjoy these classics.
Love them!!
Brian May is God
Yes, Milton Keynes is wonderful, the entire concert offers many great performances. But please don't overlook their early 70's with Live at the Rainbow, and Live at the Odeon, Hammersmith. White Queen is a must see performance, along with You Take My Breath Away 1976 at Hyde Park
@@sharonhalliday3180 Yes indeed my Queenmates!!
Every now and then I return to this video, I just love your reaction and music knowledge
"No, that's not a real person." Hold up, just spit out my coffee, I'm back, all good.
‘That’s not a real person’ is the appropriate reaction. 🤣
Btw I am 72 years old and I had chills watching you have chills . Luv sharing this old music with you,.
61 here and same! We may be old(er) but we got to see all the great bands! :)
66 yrs old here, I remember like it was yesterday, listening to this doing the housework. It was number 1 forever. Never got tired of hearing it on the radio.
This music is not Old. It is timeless.
What’s crazy is that his live performances are just as good if not better. He was a genius
Not to be pedantic, but it was 5 octaves.
I love this song, but this reaction makes it so much better. There is so much pure joy and awe that makes me rejoice and love it all over again.
I love Freddie. This is the song that made his mom cry after he died. And to think he started writing this as a young teenager.
That sounds like really great fun. I'll look out for you and family in the street if I ever hear it when I'm out and about!
@@davidgough4152 We would love to have another guest to the Headbanger's Ball! 🤘😄
Absolutely!!
Just like the solo drum drop for in the air tonight.
You mean there are people who don’t??!!!
Yes he did this live and yes he sounded just like that. Today everyone would think the man was using auto-tune but no, he was just that good.
Then you'll love Vincent Fernandez. He sang Mexican ranch music(equivalent to westerns). His voice is extremely commanding.
@@inspectorconscious2388
He sounds like a very interesting man. I will look into his work when I have some time. Could you recommend some of his best work for me to take a look at?
Thanks.
@@laughingachilles "Volver Volver" "El Rey" "Por tu maldito amor." He was to Mexico what Hank Williams, Johnny Cash is to America.
@@laughingachilles I'm eager to hear your response
First line out of Freddie's mouth: "OMG, that vibrato!"
Me: oh, he's about to have an eargasm.
RIGHT!!! Same for me with the beach boys. And in movies the sound of music. I'm always floored.
I must admit I found them in my late 20s and I shame my dad for not introducing me...and I'm white lol
The 'best' ones are those who say they've never heard it then start miming the lyrics or start head banging BEFORE the heavy rock part comes in lol.
Queen is..Freddie Mercury-piano/vocals, Brian May-guitar/vocals, Roger Taylor-drums/vocals, John Deacon-bass..all four wrote lyrics and music
You pointed out things I have never caught and I’ve listened to it close to a million times…it was so cool to see someone appreciate the art!
This is probably the best reaction video I’ve seen to this song. I love the fact that your hands were shaking while you were lost in the song. I absolutely love your educated appreciation of such an amazing song.
A lot of other reaction videos are faked and annoying, but yours was an honest reaction and much appreciated.
Queen was one of the absolute best artists to ever hit a stage.
And a new Queen fan is born😈
Yes, that is his real voice.
That would be "ahead of their time " dumbass.
It's so fun watching people fall in love with Freddie. 🤩
