    Love old Queen. I spent my 24th B-Day at the Queen concert in Montreal, in 1981. If you haven't reacted to the song Somebody to Love from that concert, you sure should. I was in the 8th row. Freddie put passion into everything he did. And his on-stage charisma was like no other. Freddie Mercury, early 1970s, - I won't be a rock star. I'll be a legend. -

    You have to think of this song as a 3 piece masterpiece. The first part is the young man sadly admitting to murder to his mother. The operetta is the judge & jury at court and the rock part is the acceptance and hopelessness of the sentence. Queen blew the roof off current music with this masterpiece. The technical ability & laying track over track was expert level. It is still the GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME.

    • @nono86753

      This could also be interpreted as him coming out as as gay man, killing his prior self and then having to live with the judgement of others (back in the day, this was not an easy thing to do) and then dealing with his new life.

    • @Shazzadut1
      @Shazzadut1 2 місяці тому +2

      It’s really a 3 act opera. His confession, his judgement and his punishment for murder. They overdubbed their voices hundreds of times in parts of this, so much so that the tape, as it was then, became so thin and fragile it was losing the effect of the overdubbing. The initial part is just Freddie overdubbing himself over and over.

      @@nono86753that’s how i interpreted it when i first heard it. he had AIDS also, which would make it sound like he’s accepting his disease and coming to terms with it. lyrics like “body’s aching all the time” and “i don’t wanna die” made me take it that way

    • @susanjones4904
      @susanjones4904 2 місяці тому

      The murder is a personal one, he said pulled MY TRIGGER, now he's dead. It's about Farrouhk Bulsara becoming Freddie Mercury. Finding fame is "caught in a landslide, no escape from reality". Overwhelming, the operatic middle portion describes the many stages of fame, including "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me". That is a descent into wanton carnality, sexual deviance and the true nightmare of Aids. On many levels, this song is prophetic. At the time this was written, homosexuality was largely unspoken about, except in nuance. "Body's aching all the time; goodbye everybody, I've got to go; got to leave you all behind and face the truth". Freddie feeling judged, and at that time, the headlines in Britain were highly judgemental. At the 3rd section, anger comes forth, and Freddie throws off feelings of shame, and asserts his power, through his singing, his true self. Nothing really matters, is resignation; the journey was a wild one, so any way the wind blows.....Love you, miss you, never forget you, Freddie, your masterpiece lives on...❤❤❤

      @danicaperkins7511 This song came out in 1975. Aids happened in the 1980s, maybe even in the late seventies. However, when Queen made this song, Freddie didn't have the disease at that time.

    That first acapella portion is all just Freddie laying track after track to get the depth of several voices and that kind of choir effect. This song was recorded on 24 track tape and multitracked so many times that the tape became transparant. The rest of the song is Freddie, Brian and Roger on the harmonies, with Roger (drummer) doing the really high notes. Today with the newer technology, the track would be recorded just once then that same track would be layered back on as many times wanted. Back when Queen did this, they just had to sing the track many, many times to get the sound they wanted. There processes were very organic compared to how things are done today. the interesting part of recording this song is that it was done in little pieces and only Freddie had any idea of what it was going to end up sounding like. Once all the bits were finished the band finally got to hear the song put together for the first time. So there was no real rehearsal of this song, they would just lay down several recordings of a few notes at the same time and then it was put in the can until it was ready to be assembled. Thank you for your reaction. 1.6 billion views here on UA-cam alone. This song and band are iconic. 50 years later it is still a song that would be a hit today.

    The most epic song *ever*! At the beginning, that is all the late, great Freddie Mercury's voice layered together! Freddie owned the stage! Brian May, the guitarist, made that guitar with his dad with parts they had around the house. Freddie had 4 extra teeth, but he never had them removed. He didn't want to take a chance on doing anything that might affect his performance. This came out when I was 15 (1975) and this was a very innovative music video, 6 years before MTV started broadcasting. The success of this started the trend of making music videos for bands (some had been done before, but not with this level of success).

    Possibly the most famous song ever. Freddie was born in Zanzibar, Africa. His voice was unique and perfect. The guitarist is underrated because he was backing up one of the greatest showmen ever, Freddie. But he was a great guitarist...and an actual astrophysicist. He wrote the song '39 for Queen that dealt with Einsteinian physics in a way that made sense to listeners. "Your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me."

    This is pure rock operetta. A play in three acts. Absolute classic.

    Great reaction. I love the Queen movie. I love watching about people's journey through life.
    I don't know if you have ever heard of the acapella group called Pentatonix they sing Bohemian Rhapsody they do all the instruments with their mouths. It's very well done. Recommend them. They have 3 grammies and are the only acapella group on Hollywood walk of fame. I hope to see this reaction. Have a great day.

    If you're really into how they made the recording, Queen's official UA-cam channel has a Playlist "Inside The Rhapsody..." with three documentary videos that explain it in detail.

    Interesting observation on that song opening. Because you see the band members silhouettes, you are naturally expecting to be hearing all their voices in marvelous harmony. But in reality, those voices are All Freddie. They sing together during the rest of the song, but this is just Freddie at the beginning.
