      You might be familiar with Vanilla Ice's cover of this song
      Which was without the permission of the group Wild Cherry
      Another reason why you might not be familiar with this group is because they're basically a "One Hit Wonder"

      Randomly had your Queen video come up in my feed. I've blasted through a bunch of your reactions and really like what you're doing so far! I see that you're reacting to all types of music from all different periods. What is even better is that you haven't formed a bias against certain types of music because so much is new to you and you're willing to try anything. With that, I'd really love to suggest a band that is different from the others I've seen you react to so far, and yet similar in a couple ways.
      It's a band out of Japan that is a mix of J-Pop vocals & dance and metal music. They are called BABYMETAL. This isn't just the name of their band, it's also symbolism for the fact that they created a new (baby) sub-genre of metal called "Kawaii" metal in Japan, or "Cute" metal in English. Their music style is not just one type, not one song sounds the same to others. They will put Latin mixes in, power metal, thrash metal, death metal, pop, rap, it spans everything!
      Most of their songs are completely in Japanese, but their live performances are incredible and some of their music videos are beautifully done. I'd like to start you off with giving three options...
      "Road of Resistance" Live in Japan - This song is awesome and is more power metal. It does get hit for copyright or blocked frequently, so I'd recommend you pause A LOT during it. ua-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/v-deo.html
      "Megitsune" (pronounced "May-git-soo-nay") - This is the music video and it incorporates a lot of traditional Japanese instruments and sounds in it. ua-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/v-deo.html
      "Headbanger" Live at the Legend 1997 concert (named that for the lead singer's birth year) - This really puts the singing and instruments together well and is one of their most popular songs among their fans. ua-cam.com/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/v-deo.html
      I think you both might really enjoy this. I will admit, the pop style of singing with the metal music in the back does take a little getting used to, but it's worth it!

    I was in the Army in 76', when this song came out (OK, I'm old). Our platoon was a good mix of ethnic types. We all got along great and had each other's backs. We had fun together. One day the brothers in my platoon (I'm White) jumped up and said, "There's that song!, on the radio" and turned it up. They started dancing to it. We all did. On the "White Boy" part, they danced around me, pointing at me, "Play that funky music, White Boy". I laughed along with them and said, "You are going to be embarrassed, when you find out whose playing that song. A couple days later, somebody bought the album and brought it in. We all saw the pic of the White band on the back. They just kinda put their heads down, shook them and said, "Damn". We all had a good laugh. Miss those guys/times. Thanks for reminding me.

      When I was a younger guy we would stop at the deli for egg sandwiches every morning. There was a really old black guy we would sit with and eat. After a while we got to know him well. I'm not sure what year it was around 92/93. He told us he was playing for new years in nyc. We turned him down because we had dates and frankly had no idea who he was. It was Can Callaway. He lived in the neighborhood we worked in White Plains. A few years later I was watching a Grateful Dead special on channel 13 and they played a black and white cartoon with a young black dude and the cartoon characters dancing to his awesome music. It was no other than Mr Callaway. I was blown away. He was an awesome dude till the end. He was moved away by family shortly later. I'm kinda glad we didn't know who he was. It made it more special. At least now it does then it would have been awesome to go.

    "One night stand" in the context of this song @2:17 refers to a band playing gigs for one night only. A big-time act would be booked in clubs for more than one night. Small-time acts only got a one-night stand.

  • @ronaldporter7206
    @ronaldporter7206 4 роки тому +152

    The term "One night stand" came from the music industry. It referred to a one night gig. Small time groups often traveled across country playing a series of one night shows. It was a very grueling life of constant travel for little money. The term goes back to about the 1940s. It only started being used as a sexual reference in the 1960s.

    These guys popped onto the disco scene, right after cool and the gang. Perfect timing, disco had a sound! Disco had a sound. They were 5 white guys. I didn’t care what color the person was that made those incredible songs. I love R&B, disco and especially the songs from cool and the gang and wild cherry. I felt we were all sharing a cultural moment that transcended our differences by the way we dressed, danced, and made music. It was truly a special time with the best musicians that ever lived ! Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gay, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Jackson. I could go on and on listing artists in that era. Thank You so much for reviving literally an age that will be recognized as one of our countries best times to have lived by celebrating the music we all loved together as a nation. The rest of the world thought what are you doing over there.
