    I've used a chinese ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth dongle for a while and it's great because its Cheeeep and reads codes etc but its not very reliable on connecting every time, draws constant power, isn't secure and causes the ABS light to flash. Well for Christmas I got the OBDLINK LX....lets see how it fares :)
    I'd sure appreciate the like if you did like the video or found it useful and why not subscribe for more content.

    So, it worth the money??? Because I did not see any comparison between this and the other one! Only a short presentation of OBDLink LX. The title has nothing to do with what I saw.

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  7 років тому

      calutzubv well in my opinion what I need it for (live data, codes and quick connections) then yes, if you just want it to read codes if the eml comes on then no not really. I would say it was compared as the cheap Chinese ones cause issues with the abs light coming on if plugged in prior to starting the engine, this one does not, the lx connects quickly and more reliably compared to the Chinese copies and in many instances the read speed for live data is faster but this depends on the speed of your ecu data output in some instances. Thanks for your feedback though..much appreciated :)

      It's more down to your ecu than the dongle but I think it does give data a little quicker than the cheap chinese one

    What's funny is, with my 2005 Dodge Magnum, 2 years ago I had this weird symbol of an engine light come on the dash. It would come on and off if I shut off the car and then turned it on again intermittently. After awhile, it stayed on all the time. I took it to a local Dodge dealer. They had the car for easily 3 weeks and didn't resolve any problem and they have a Starscan. I lived with the intermittent problem for months. Finally, I took it to a local honest car repair independent shop. They figured it out and resolved it in one day! I think it was a sensor. The guy told me, "Yeah, those lights sometimes mean one of ten possible things wrong." And the code that was getting thrown meant one of ten different things wrong. So even knowing the code was of little help to me not being a mechanic. I was at the mercy of finding someone who could narrow down what was causing it and fix it.

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  7 років тому +2

      Jeffrey Cranston I know what you mean...finding out what sensor is throwing the code can mean a bit of detective work :) if you have the code and Google it for the year and model of your car you can normally get the cause but even then it could be the result of something else making that sensor report badly....glad you got your vehicle fixed in the end :)

      Possibly because I used it before I bought the LX, it has good functionality and I like the interface... plus I've set up custome gauges etc already. I maybe should give the propriety app a go for a bit longer and see how I get on with it. Thanks for watching and your comment 🙂

    Hello - I have the OBDLink MX bluetooth unit. I forget how to do something: When I'm in the Dashboard, I want to change one of the displays, but I don't know how to do it. For example, I may want to change the MPH display to the Engine Temp display. Or I may want to fill an empty space on the Dashboard with a new display. How do I do that? Thanks

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  2 роки тому +1

      So if you go into the dashboard section and long press on a guage you can change its operation and type from the menu that pops up when you long press. If you want to add a new gauge press the three dots bottom left when in the dashboard view and it gives you the options to add a new gauge... Hope that helps :)

    • @ralphturner3798

      @@DadDiaries Hi Dad Diaries - yes, that helps... to change from one type to another. However, I don't see the three dots you mention. Once I've long pressed on an existing guage, I see "Edit Display" and eight choices, including Display Configuration. But nowhere do I see three dots. Thanks

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  2 роки тому

      The three dots is the main dashboard screen bottom left before you long press on anything. To change an existing gauge.. long press on the one you want to change, then select display configuration and then in that view on item select that and it'll give you all the sensor options for the different gauges... Just choose the one you want.

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  5 років тому +1

      The delay is due to the speed of data transfer from the ECU. The ECUs in the MR2 aren't particularly quick compared to some so you aren't going to get exact live data... there will be millisecond delays.

      ziggy2070 Hi, I don't think it can unless the ABS throws a code within your OBD2 system. for ABS and SRS I use Techstream. You'll need a Mini VCI cable and a laptop but you can get the cable for about £20 and use the most up to date version of the software toyota has (if it's a toyota you indeed have) for a very small fee. you can lease the software for just a day if need be. lf you look on ebay for a mini VCI cable they often come with software. I would say though they can sometimes be a bit of a pain to set the drivers up for the cable in windows 7 and 10. thanks for watching :)
