Great Video. I'm surprised the manufacturer didn't use the Interior light? On Most cars this is a Permanent 12v. 🇬🇧👍

I was JUST about to start hardwiring my wolfbox mirror cam, really dreading it, then I saw this video!
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be one for Chevrolet/GMC trucks (yet) so maybe I'll hold off juuuuuust a little longer in hopes of one coming out relatively soon

I'd love to get one of these as I have a Red Tiger cam sitting in a box that I'm dreading installing the wiring down to the fuse block. If there's a FitDVR that would work on a 2007 CR-V, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could use the cable for the map lights. (There's a second cable for the moonroof but it only works with the key turned to ACC).

I need that sooo bad. I'm always kneeing the power cable plugged into the power port. I've broken three of them in two years
Thanks for the video. Will this work with the BlackVue 907x plus 2ch?
You're welcome NHILL! Unfortunately I have not tested the BlackVue 907X so I'm not familiar with it. However this adaptor work with 5V (USB) dash cams and 12V (DC Plug) dash cams and radar detectors as shown in the video. BlackVue typically uses the DC plug connector. The kit comes with a DC connector cable shown on the video in the most common size used by 12V dash cams and radar detectors (measures 3.5mm OD and 1.35 ID). Cheers!
It would be nice to find a power brick that can output power while charging and use that for parking mode
Hi Tom! Ah yes some people run their dash cam off a battery pack. However since here my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it ua-cam.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/v-deo.html and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced ua-cam.com/video/XfWgJ8nu-RA/v-deo.html (destroyed the house) Cheers!

Hi @Autofun
Thanks for this amazing review again. As regards my findings on my mirror dashcam of choice, the rydeen Tombo 360x remains my no 1 option for some obvious reasons as you know. But, the low battery protection voltage remains a great concern to me (@ 10V as you told me days ago). Knowing new cars of today has many infactory power consuming accessories already, I don't know if I will be able to start the car the following day if the battery eventually got drained down to 10V.
In the course of my research, I stumbled over a review of a dashcam installer whose client dashcam voltage was preset @11.4V and woke up to a dead car some days later just as he has predicted to the client, that such will happen at that voltage😔 (11.4 was assumed low, not to talk of 10)
1) What will be your advice/recommendation at this point pls?
2) Does rydeen has any hardwire kit for adjustable power protection? Or is the option available now in the updated software? 12v and above would be lovely and reliable
3) I will really appreciate if you can share with me the manual showcasing the new software interface navigation and functionalities. (the one on their site seems to be the old one).
I just want to see the added functionalities
Thanks so much as I anticipate your response...... Peace ✌️
You're welcome Muda! Ah remember 10V is not the power consumption of the device, the 10V refers to at what point the low voltage cut off kicks in. You can have a kit cut off at 12V but if the power consumption of the car is high when the vehicle is off the battery will reach that level faster and park monitoring will turn off (basically the same as not having parking monitoring), same if it was 11V or 10V, how long it takes for the battery to get to a specific voltage varies depending on the car's battery, size, age, health condition, SOC and any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use ua-cam.com/video/kCNrfa8RUKU/v-deo.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. I do use one of this ua-cam.com/video/C1LapUB7bXo/v-deo.html on vehicles that have a high power draw when off to protect the battery. Regarding an adjustable hardwire from Rydeen, they do not have one (adjusting the cut off is a feature I'm slowly seeing disappear from the market) Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun
Thanks so much for your swift response as always
Gracias
@@musaadedibu9316 You're welcome! This is a very interesting topic and I actually have a video in the works where I go into power consumption into more detail including testing different dash cams power draw (Amps while in parking mode) and also test their amp draw in the different park modes they support (some mode consume more power than others) That way people can get an idea on draw and which mode to choose from. Cheers!
My car has one of those mirrors with buttons on it to control a garage opener and stuff. It works even when the car is off. So Im assuming it might have enough power to run a dashcam when the car is off.

Why don’t car manufactures just fit dash cams as standard or offer them as an option? In comparison to the overall cost of the vehicle, it wouldn’t be much of an addition to the total price. I don’t get it!
Good question!
Hi Rio! Yeah this is very natural offering, and we are seeing but very slowly (Telsa has them, C8 and few other in high trims). Hopefully we will see the industry make this a more common option when ordering a vehicle. Cheers!
Or just a USB port connected or close to the mirror, so it would make people's life easier. It would be more useful than having many USB ports down below that are rarely used.
Or just have a USB power plug on the back of the rear view mirror?

What's "ect"? Ectoplasm? Ectopic? Ectomorph?
Hello, Alex. Thanks for this video. I have a question. Which particular one would I need for my 2022 Camry XSE V6? They have a 12pin and 16pin unit. Also, I already have a radar detector tapped into my mirror, the traditional way, by inserting thin pins into the male plug. The radar detector is plugged into the power that shuts off when turning off the vehicle. If I use this plug and play harness while the radar detector is being tapped in, could it cause shortages? Also, my mirror has constant power, so would plugging in my dashcam be able to support it as parking mode? Thanks!
You're welcome L! Ah normally Camry uses the 12 pin (the listing has the full list of vehicles if you want to double check). Regarding using two aftermarkets devices together, while it is sometimes possible, I would probably only leave one, it this case the FitDVR, since it can power both USB devices and the radar detector (obsoleting the other device you have installed). Cheers!
Hi Alex, as you know, i eventually went for the fitCam for my car (Thanks to you 🙃) , I wonder if this setup using FitDVR P-adapter will be ideal for the rear camera part of my fitCam when it arrives?

Does this adapter and the mirror port allow for continuous power for red tiger f7n parking mode
Hi Dong! As explained on the video, this will depend on your vehicle (most have switched power to this are but some do have constant power), Cheers!
Sorry I'm a bit confused. Does this means the power adapter tap taking power from the ACC? The hub behind rearview mirror is usually for ADAS camera and stuffs, right? Isn't it only powered when the ignition is on? If so, then it cannot be used for parking mode? I use a 70mai dashcam and it requires VCC for parking mode and switch to ACC when ignition on.
But aside from that, I imagine this power adapter tap really helps people installing dashcam. Decently priced too.
Hi Riph! Ah good question, as explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla, you stated that the 12 pin connector is grey / what color is the 16 pin connector?
Hi Frank! I have not seen the connector for the 2020 Corolla, what I typically see is that sometimes the connector color is different even in cases where the connector is the same (connectors can come from different suppliers). So, I usually go by the number of pins and connector keying (the shape that prevents mating to an incorrect connector) to identify a connector more than color. Cheers!

Hi Tag! Disconnecting power to the moon roof can potentially disable your moon roof from working (since it will no longer have power) If you don't plan to use your moon roof, I guess it could be disconnected, just be aware that some newer vehicles will throw a code for that and may require relearning the sunroof once it's reconnected. Is the fitDVR better than the Dongar power adapter? Can you compare the two solutions?
@@jorkirasalas2726 Hi Jorki! Ah I actually I can, I also reviewed the Dongar and they are very different devices. The Dongar is smaller due to it's lack of enclosure and screen. The Dongar has been around longer so it's possible they may have more vehicle coverage than FitDVR. The FitDVR is newer so it has more capability as far as powering dash cams where the Dongar is limited (both in Amperage and in Voltage). The manual may also help you understand the re-learn procedure (and if there is one or not) when swapping batteries for a new one (vs using the same battery where it may not be required). You can also consult with your dealer to confirm if you will loose your stereo presets or any other settings if the battery is disconnected for service. Cheers!

How is it that fitcamx.? Any issues?
Hi Jr! The Fitcamx dash comes with it's power supply (that pull power in the same way as the FitDVR) So there is no need to buy an extra power supply for it. Here is my video for it so you can see how it works ua-cam.com/video/TvKRKYA7cgQ/v-deo.html Cheers!

Will this work for a rexing M3 dash cam?
Hi JP! As shown on the video this adapter supports mirror dash cams that do not exceed it's rated capacity (so none of my mirror dash cams have exceeded it's capacity). Just remember that if you have an older M3, the GPS function is built in the original adapter so you will loose GPS if not using the original adapter. The new M3 (review on it coming) has the GPS function independently of the power adapter. Cheers!

Hi Great video, and a great tool, It, 's a shame it does not cover the rear camera, Thank you welshman 2081
Thank you Ron! Ah remember, dual channel dash cams (like the 2nd one showed in the video and the mirror dash cam shown), provide power to the rear camera. So there is no need for the rear camera to have it's own power supply. Here is my dash cam install video so you can see how the rear camera simply connects to the front camera for power ua-cam.com/video/IYRavaIBmSY/v-deo.html Cheers!

You can use a battery pack to power multiple devices.
Hi Richard! Yes some people do run their dash cam off a battery pack. However since here in my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car.

So close to being a 5 start product, it needs parking mode option. Parking mode is not for when you park in your garage, it's for when you go to the store, the mall or anywhere else. Almost all dash cams have the parking mode option, specially the "big brands". I would also love to see a touch scrren (or a button) added to it to be able to turn the screen off. And have this product available for more brands of cars, specially high end vehicles were owners would be more inclined to buy something like this and not mess around with the fuse box. Overall this is a very cool concept but it seems like they are just starting up, can't wait to see this product evolve over the years.
HI Eloy! As explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. Regarding a touchscreen or button to control the screen I can definitely be done, it's just a matter of costa and if the end customer is willing to absorb it. With the current market being driven by the lowest price it may be a challenging (at current pricing I already see people in the comments asking for it be cheaper lol, just the way it goes with the market) And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire ua-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/v-deo.html Cheers!

Do you know how to do that with viofo a229 pro?
I had no option to connect to battery for this dashcam.
Hi Rose! Unfortunately I have not tested the A229 but this kit works with dash cam that use a USB cable (like Viofo does). I will see if we can add the A229 to the list of dash cams to review (list is getting longer by the day! LOL) Cheers!

would I be able to use this and wire a radar detector on the mirror power with out blowing a fuse?
Hi Tim! As shown in the video, I was able to power a radar detector without issue (they are a low current draw device). Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks, how about if I want to power a dash cam and a radar detector at the same time?
Hi Tim! Yes, you can power both at the same time (just remember not to exceed the power capability of the adapter) The screen will actually show both the 5V and 12V output and their corresponding amp consumption for each when 2 devices are connected at the same time. Cheers!
Last 2 dash cams I installed use 5V supplied by an accessory USB plug.
Hi Nor! Correct, most dash cams use 5VDC and a few use 12VDC. The FitDVR adapter supports both. Cheers!
