I have a VXDAS Nexzscan in my vehicle: a 2007 Xterra.
I was driving one afternoon when the Check Engine Light came on. My scanner determined it was my gas cap. Not only was I able to diagnose, repair, dismiss the code, VXDAS Nexzscan offers a subscription for personal use.
It has features such as 40k DTC definition, retrieves generic,manufactures-specific and pending codes as well as vehicle information(VIN,CIN,CVN) .including the ABS/ Stabilitrak codes.and shows service intervals, what service is typically needed, average prices, and is able to find repair shops.
VXDAS Nexzscan can show some live data as well.
VXDAS Nexzscan cannot do a smog check nor show freezeframe data, but with my model year to fail a smog requires extreme wear in the exhaust or engine, which it has not come to.
I’d like to see a comparison of VXDAS Nexzscan and obdlink, along side dealer-level or shop diagnostic tools for fairness.

Hello. Just incase no one has made you aware. You can get an obd2 extention lead which will mean you can use your original fuse box cover. Have a look on ebay and you'll see what I mean.

A guy in Hungary used a Raspberry Pi circuit board, a 7" LCD screen for his car. This would be easier, or even making an iPad dock. You can get boxes that would control your iPad from your car's steering wheels. A shop in California will let you mail them a Fascia Dash Kit face and they will make it look awesome and install an iPad mount on it, then send it back to you. Some of the Dongles that some Insurance Companies use have gotten bad reviews on causing the car to have issues. You can read the news articles online about it.

    • @GearObsession
      @GearObsession  10 років тому +1

TekReview's I find it very hard to believe that a obd device can cause a car to have and issue other then maybe draining the battery. None of the devices I reviewed have caused an issue so far :)

    • @cuddles6938
      @cuddles6938 10 років тому

Yeah, your models are different. I was referring to the insurance ones that keep track of your speed, etc. There are articles about people suing for electrical damage after using one. A person mentioned they are made in China and might not have been vetted well enough before being handed out for some models. I may get one just to see if my battery volts are correct, I have had problems with vibration and rpm's fluctuating in park and in gear with foot on brake on my 2012 Focus with Automatic Dual Clutch tranny since I bought it. The dealer of course says they do not notice anything, it has gotten worse the older it is. Now I'm ready for the Customer Satisfaction repair, reprogram the tranny a 2nd time and replace the Seals. Hopefully they also replace the clutch packs as some have had done which increased mileage back to what it was when the car was new.

Voltage fluctuation is normal between 13.8 and 14.7 volts.
The lower the voltage the less charged your battery. Voltage is electrical pressure so as your battery has full pressure or full charge it takes more voltage from the alternator to overcome the higher pressure(voltage) in the battery. In other words if your trying to charge a 9 volt battery with 8 volts. It will never charge past 8 volts.

It's possible that your dog needs a higher quality food... or he's just one of those dogs that loves grass. Also, he's stubborn because you repeat yourself. If he's not obedient of the first command ignore him and do NOT give the command again for at least a minute. That said. it's obvious that you love your dog and he loves you... everything else is pretty much secondary to that. Nice to see someone who cares about his pet.

    Hello
I see that this video comments are from over a year ago but I decided to ask a question anyway incase someone is still monitoring them. You seem to have the most knowledge with these OBD adaptors and apps.
Here is my problem, I’m new to all of this,,,I own a 2008 Prius second gen and I’m trying to figure if my main drive HB battery needs to be replaced. So after doing some research I found our that a common way to test is to get an OBD2 adaptor which I did it’s the ELM 327 mini Bluetooth and I downloaded Torque Pro full version to my RCA Android tablet and gave it a try. I did get it to par up and it seems to be working in the real time mode with some of the stock gauges showing me my Engine RPMs and coolant temp etc, but I needed to add the 14 PID voltage blocks to the desktop that report the individual 28 cells voltages. I was able to add all 14 blocks on the screen and they seem to be working fine all of them are around 15.5 v. The problem happens when I close the app all 14 PIDs disappear from the main screen I have no idea why. I assuming that I should not have to Reenter them every time I want to use that feature. I can’t find a place to tell the app to save all the added PIDs.
The only other problem is I also can’t get my vehicle profile to load and save either ? The save button is grayed out and can’t be selected Could that explain the PID problem.
I’m sorry for this long comment but I can’t find the answer anywhere any information will be greatly appreciated
One thought I had was could the problems be because I’m using my Android tablet rather than my cell phone ? Thats because I don’t have an Android cell phone my phone is a iPhone, and even with that I tried a couple of apps that were suppose to work with my ELM 327 mini Bluetooth adapter and Had no luck getting them to par up and communicate with my Dr. Prius app. Or car scanner app I have no idea why that problem can’t up either.
    Thank You
    Louie IL USA 🇺🇸

Midaspl gotta be careful with some of those. There have been a lot with board faults particularly effecting the SAE J1850 protocols. Bad signals through the OBD2 port could potentially cause irreparable damage.

+wals-world If the diagnostic device is "read-only" it could never do any harm since it can't write onto the cars ECM. But be careful if you're using a laptop with a more powerful program, since the ELM327 can be used to re-write ECM injector and timing for performance mods - but that extended program costs between $120 - 1200. I would think the other dongles could too so with the right program. But no way if using a simple phone app, they only read

Programs that allow rewriting the code that runs the car are now available free and open source.
A very good argument for not leaving a WiFi OBD2 installed as they are not very secure.

***** Keep in mind I don't know what kind of vehicle you have, but I believe the Airbag "SRS" is usually a seperate system. It doesn't have trouble codes. It does a check of the SRS system every time you turn on the key. If your vehicle has never had the airbags deployed, then it's just a matter of figuring out what is making the light come on and fixing it. If the bags have deployed in the past and then "fixed" and the light is still coming on, you will need to figure out what has NOT been fixed. If only the bags and damaged sensors were replaced, but not the SRS module (once it goes off, it can't be reset) then you'll need to replace it with one that has never been deployed.

2008 Hyundai TIburon. It's a common problem for the seatbelt buckle to trigger the sensor and light. But it hasnt been recalled for this year yet.
I heard that even with it fixed, it has to be reset to see if the solution worked.

***** Yeah, that is not going to have anything to do with the OBD2 system so none of these dongles or apps are going to have any effect on that. The dealer is going to be the only people that have the specialized scan tools for the SRS system. I would read all the Tiburon forums to see if anyone has come up with a cheap fix. If it is a single switch in the buckle that has dirty contacts and does not close a circuit when buckled, it may be as easy as cleaning the contacts. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I heard that a certain app works with certain years and models of Toyotas (Lexus, Scion), and Volkswagen cars and you're able to turn off the airbag lights with them.
Not sure if it resets the light or simply turns off the light.
      It's called Carista
Unfortunately it doesnt work on the Tiburon.
The "quick fix" i heard was to remove the fuse. But that is illegal if you're selling the car.

ChillCosmos Once a bluetooth connection has been discovered and connected, it will always reconnect automatically or simply by going into the bluetooth devices and clicking on it. The button is only for new devices or the first time.

+Kit Anilapde I don't know the car - i'm Australian.. :-! However, if the car is newer than 2006, it's likely to use a "CAN" car computer network which is much faster than earlier car computers and so needs a faster chip that's set up for it too. In that case, i've found the ELM327 dongle works for sure on a CAN system, Since my Australian Ford uses CAN, and also has a weird wiring of the OBD2 plug, which the ELM327 was also able to work out. I don't know about the others on this video

Are any of these dongles bi-directional and can they read transmission and abs codes?

Metal Maniac This dongles can read and reset codes that are thrown by your car's computer, I'm not aware of any other interactions other then reading information.

well..u seem to know alot about this...
i bought the ELM 327 bluetooth plug.
if i plug it in, turn the key.... my ABS and Airbag lights go on also... ?.. ECU doesnt show errors.
if i turn the key...and then plug the OBD.. no lights go on..
so its the OBD plug making the lights go on?...why?..
Torque app says no errors on Adapter status.
    Help?:D :)

+Henry McFly While many manufacturers used the OBD2 connectors ( since they are cheap hardware ), not all are wired in the standard way. Australian Fords are like this. However the ELM327 works on my Aussie Ford, so i'm guessing it has a way to recognize the logic signals on each pin of the connector and reassign it if necessary. This might be why yours acts differently if "booted" in different ways. Perhaps your car's OBD2 is wired in a non-standard way ( as many American and Aussie cars are to try and keep you going to their service department ). Perhaps it's like using a USB keyboard with an old version of Windows - the keyboard only works AFTER the system is loaded

Does not work on my 2000 Dodge Intrepid SE, Have tried 3 different "dongles", all bluetooth, using android OS 5.1.1, all 3 devices paired up, connected fine, according to Torque, but not connecting to car's ECU. Yet works on everyone elses I've tried, except an Olds Avalon, didnt work on that one either.....I'm pissed....lol, Out of ideas dang it, I'm ignorant to bluetooth protocol code
