Scotty!! Would i be able to bring my car to you for you to check out?! It's a 2011 Ford Escape with almost 250,000 miles on it. Same engine and Trans. Just idles rough and can't quite figure out the issue with it. It's worse in the cold air and better in the warmer air. Been going on for a couple years now. Besides that it's a great car. I get my 30-year-old truck looked at by a very good mechanic every single spring. Sometimes, he'll change the plugs other something else but I have never gotten a bill over $225; ever. He takes great care of keeping it running in tippy top shape and I am grateful to that man. He is as honest as the day is long. A woman actually owns that little shop and she runs a tight ship. I will never, ever take it to a place like Goodyear or a dealer again. The last time I did I was quoted $1500. I paid $50 for the diagnostic, went to a parts store, bought the parts and made the repairs needed and my total cost including the diagnostic was $150. Talk about mark up!

Being a machinist myself I think I can pretty much fix anything but damn a carburetor rebuild was a learning experience in very good engineering....that nobody knows now. I had a 76 ford and it took me 3 months to figure it out because I'd taken the whole thing apart to rebuild it.

I bought one of these a month ago, because extending the CPO on our 2017 BMW 440i was going to cost $4000. Two days after I got it, my friend borrowed it and was able to see that his 2yo Tundra's wheel speed sensor was hosed. The dealer couldn't find the problem. He showed them video of using the scan tool and they replaced the sensor under warranty. He bought an X8 IMMEDIATELY. A couple of weeks ago, my son barely made it home in his 2003 Accord. I used the scan tool to find 2 bad ignition coils. Simple diagnosis with the X8 and simple fix.
purchased XTool D8. outstanding tool. $688.00 + tax. have used it on several vehicles, I find it comparable to launch X431 V+, autel, and snapon scantools. equal to or greater diagonoetic capabilities; far less in cost. three years free updates. also, XTool D8 has brought out a BT (blue tooth) model, just over $700.00. thousands less than autel and snapon scan tools.thank you Scotty Kilmer for another outstanding presentation. I will soon be 73 years old, I use this tool frequently. wish i had this several years ago.
I've watched countless videos on this scan tool which looks like an Xtool D8. This video is by far the most informative. Most of the other videos focus on the bi-directional special functions - which IS very useful for troubleshooting however, the way in which you described this tool could influence my 86 year ol mom to buy one but she doesn't have a driver's license and never drove a day in her life. I bet if she watched this video, she'd buy one anyway. hehehehe
I’m about to be 26 this month and I’ve never taken a single vehicle to a shop for anything, either my dad or big brother would fix it for me, then I watched them and now I’ve began to work on them myself, just did a ford 4.6 intake manifold and water pump last week, if I can do this stuff anyone can, you just got to put in the time and work it takes to learn, I’ve saved thousands of dollars doing stuff DIY, a mechanic would’ve charged me at least 800 to 1000 bucks, I did it myself for 140 bucks, sure I had to buy some tools I didn’t have but now I’ve got those tools for the rest of my life now
If you're working with Fords specifically, with an OBD Link EX cable, a free copy of Forscan, and a laptop, you can get all the scanning tools you need for $50. Once you pay $10 for Forscan, you do get some extras like being able to tweak vehicle behavior (like adding cruise control or enabling post-purchase sensors)
My go-to Scanner is the Launch. It uses Bluetooth and WiFi. Free updates for Two years and because of the Bluetooth capability, the Technician can use the scan tool away from the vehicle. My Snap-on Verus pro is too big for day to day diagnostics. It's only needed if there is a communication failure between any of the Modules on the Can- Bus network. The Oscilloscope feature on the Verus Pro is rarely needed.
Scotty, if this were my truck and got such a good reading from the scan tool I just bought, I'd want you to recheck everything with the scan tool you have just for accuracy sake.
Long time DIYer here. Been using the Torque Pro with BT device for a long time while looking at advanced scanners for YEARS... but wanted to keep under $1,000. XTool is a game changer and they just upgraded their D7 and D8 devices. I just received my XTool D8W. It is Wireless Direct, not Blue Tooth. Data transfer is much faster than bluetooth. My expectations have been exceeded. If you've been on the fence, look no further. And, don't be pennywise and pound foolish. Spend the extra $$ for the D8W. Enjoy! 0:02
Back in the day (love that quip)there was a diagnostic tournament you could enter and diagnose cars with problems from easy to very difficult and if you made it through with a top score you got a cash prize and a large trophy!
Scotty ! One of the best darn videos you have done in awhile.......( I like them all ).......35 year mechanic but same basic principals.......nice unit .....
Xtool compensates well for reviews. Notice that NONE of the reviewers demostrate the real functions that you pay for( service resets, active tests, etc) I have an Xtool and it lets me down every single time I have to do some serious work on a customer's vehicle
With the cost of vehicles these days they should automatically come with a good scanner or at the very least have a menu button for this feature in cars that come with large displays.
It's funny how Scotty presents the scenario that you can actually talk to your mechanic and they will give you honest communication. I don't think I've met an honest one yet in person and I am 40 years old. And I've met quite a few, dealerships and independent mechanics
I did my research and after watching this video I bought the Xtool D7. It came in the mail Friday, 3/12/22, and I played with it on the weekend. I worked on My 2003 Volvo S40, which had the check engine light on. I was able to make the windshile go on and off and it read some other stuff.
Wow, I have a 2020 200 series Land Cruiser with the twin turbo V8 and people say it must be thirsty. It gets 19mpg on the highway and 17mpg around town. 11mpg is crazy. Lucky gas is cheap in the US.
I recommend you to try the more expensive ones that have topology mapping. It shows you the whole picture of the modules and you can see right away where the problem is. It is incredible. You don't even have to look to all the data to pinpoint the problem. You can see it directly in the map
Fantastic! I saw someone in a video using this thing but I don’t know much about lower end scanners. I went from CAT electronic technician and Diamond Logic Builder to using a SnapOn modus ultra. But I’m not spending $7,000 so I decided to see what Scotty said about the scanner. I’m very glad you did a video on it.
I recently bought the D8 but returned it because it could NOT read the PCM codes for a 96 camry and 02 grand caravan where my bluedriver and actron scanners did read them. The D8 Technical support said the scanner software was ok. Seems the D8 will not work on older vehicles IMO.
My business is beside a mechanic shop. I could never do mechanic work like you Scotty for living. I've known a lot of mechanics and it seems the number one issue in that field is customers always trying to scam or rip off the repairmen. I've had my vehicles worked on by multiple guys in multiple states and I've never experienced the whole shady mechanic experience but I've seen so many customers trying to scam the shop beside me.
I got a Foxwell NT-630 Plus. Has it for a while but now I may finally go back to working in a shop and may start looking to upgrade. Scanners are getting more unbelievable all the time! 👍
What are your thoughts on the Foxwell NT-650 Elite for a DIY’er? I wouldn’t mind spending a pretty penny to get this scanner, but seeing a couple of videos & saving a lot of cash would be nice, so how has your foxwell held up for you?
One thing I've taken away from watching this channel is get yourself at the very least a mid range scan tool for your vehicles. Worth their weight in gold.
Scotty, Please remember that all of those readings you see in those scan tools come from somewhere..... and most likely there is a pressure measuring instrument on the gas line, the transmission function sensors,, the injectors, the doubly awful gas vapor/ERG etc. etc., the computer, etc. that Car Owners PAID for in the $60,000.00 trucks and cars.... that is one reason the new vehicles are so expensive. Years ago I stopped buying new cars, because of the elevated cost and extreme depreciation experienced when a new car is driven off the lot (including sales commission).... The scan tools only work because Car Owners were forced to buy the instruments that send to signals for trouble shooting....
Thank you sir! I always wondered why my short term fuel trim hunted positive and negative. The interval of that happening was predictable enough [in a consistant small range] I figured there was a design element somehow, somewhere.
Scotty have you considered doing an advanced diagnosic tool comparison? Like the XTOOL D8 vs Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS or the thinkcar THINKTOOL Pros+. I've seen you use multiple hogh end scan tools but maybe go the mid to high grade. I've personally had an Innova 3160B for many years but am looking to upgrade to more advanced diagnostics. This D8 looks very promising but in you honest opinion how does it stack up to the others.
Hey Scotty I'm an old school mechanic and like many others had to join the 21st century to work on my own car and these scanners are a must (even the cheaper ones). But I think dealerships and manufacturers will regain their edge by putting even more patents on parts so you have to buy dealer parts. Oh well, that's business lol.
To work on modern cars, one has to be an computer technician, data analyst, and electrician. Ow yeah, i almost forgot you have to be a mechanic as well.
Another great video Scotty. I am pleasantly surprised that such full featured generic (all manufacturers) smart scan tools are becoming somewhat reasonably priced now. I see the slightly lower priced Xtool sibling model the D7 Smart Diag Tool is priced around $400-500 which is really not bad for a DIY home mechanic who wants to diagnose and do most of the simple maintenance at home when possible. Until now too much of the data and ability to interact with the ECUs had not been within reach of the average DIY mechanic. Love seeing you go through the features of this scanner and explain the value and ease of use for the average mechanically inclined home mechanic. Oh, and no wonder this guy is smart enough to buy that tool, he's got an old iPod with Led Zeppelin on it!
Scotty Question: When you mention a "modern car" what year would you say that indicates? 80's 90's, 2000's or above? I purchased the Blue Driver scanner you recommend 2 years ago and find it very helpful reading basic codes on my 007 IS350 when it throws one. Thank you! Jeff Mooresville NC
I would say 2010 and above cuz I know early 2000s cars don't have nearly as much information available when you run a obd2 reader regardless of how good it is cuz the info just isn't there to show. Prolly depends on make and model, more sophisticated cars might have more data cuz they have more computers, not sure about that one tho.
I realize I'm not Scotty, but I believe he's likely referring to vehicles from 2010 or so and later because of how much more computers have been used since that time frame. That said, the port used for scan tools (OBD2) has been standard since 1996. Computer systems have obviously gotten a lot more complex since 96, but the port is the same.
For as much as people love to complain about how complicated cars are nowadays, I personally think its fantastic to have computers be able to save hours on diagnostic times. With all these new cars having big screens i hope they start coming with factory scan tools soon (they probably won't but a guy can dream)
@@southerncharity7928 But you don't need it. Toyota allows their diagnostic software to be used in third party scan tools like the one in the video. I was only saying you can actually buy the 'official' software the dealers use but it's for dealers so why would you pay that lol It's companies like Tesla that don't offer their diagnostics to be used with third party scan tools. They force you to buy their official expensive software.
Why don’t scan tool / car diagnostics show the error codes in date order. Old codes are irrelevant. The only trouble with common sense is that it is not common enough. Cheers Scotty. Paul (Uk)
I think it’s time that new car infotainment systems should have a switch from play toy/diag tool. In other words it’s time the diagnostic computer should be built in. 🧐
a scan tool and a pokey light has helped me save thousands while buying cars. if i cant scan it i wont buy it. sometimes it wont scan because its just a blown fuse which i find with the tester. then i run the diagnostic and make my bid.
I am not positive but I believe that is the Ford engine that needs the Oil Pump replaced at around 140,000 to 150,000 miles. When they go you will severely damage your engine. You may want to tell the truck owner.
I can get a lot of useful information out of my wireless OBD2 adapter and the Torque Pro App on my Android Smartphone. $15 for the adapter and $5 for the App. Maybe some day I'll cough up more dough for a better tool. BTW, I spend a lot of time watching your videos ... keep producing them, their great, learning a lot.
Ironically my friend whom is basically the same as sotty kilmore (75 yrs old been working in the industry 45-50 yrs hella knowledge and experience and more tools then a wholee tool truck😂 only difference is he works on alott more then just automobiles like heavy machinery. Basically everything with tracks ir wheels and an engine). Anyways he told me too get this exact one. I did and im not even an automechanic😂. Im a pretty experienced diyer. Guy was kinda a dad too me so lots of experience that way.. just think its funny two very similar old guys are reccommending this product. Hey if a cheap scan tool ismt enough then you may very well be better suited by the xtool d7 that costs about half as much. Half the storage and smaller screen but almost all of the same capabilities!
That may be from vehicles from 2007 with the can system that was after the OBD2 which is basically the same system it just has more data control sensors senders used to be you just have a vacuum pressure valve on the fuel line so you have basically two different pressure systems you know one when your item the fuel pump doesn't have to work as fast as it hard and then when you step on the gas and immediately goes to the next level so basically you just have to pressure things on your fuel line
I have the same 2010 F250 same engine except with a manual transmission. The major work has been a new A/C compressor (the front bearing was shot), and a complete brake rebuild (equalizer defective and rear brakes were corroded and stuck). My OBD II diagnostic tool is a reconditioned Harbor Freight scanner. Installed an Android Head Unit with backup camera.
I recently bought this EXACT Scan tool, It's awesome! However they just released the Bluetooth version so I returned it and upgraded. The Bluetooth model works just as fast, it's definitely worth the extra bucks. I already programmed 3 car keys with it. It can do WAY MORE than the cheap Phone Apps like Torque
@@brianb5779 Yes it supports ALL makes even ones from different countries. The features it supports depends on the make/model. Like it can't reset gauge cluster mileage for every car, only cars that support it.
I cant get an answer from xtool. I think the wired version of the D8 contains the bt receiver dongle, but the bt version comes with the basic xtool A30 bt transmitter. If im right then it would be cheaper yo buy the xtool D8 wired version, and buy an obdc bt module separately. Then you have the wiring harness as a back up, if the bt module fails. There are many good after market bt modules to choose from.
Is this a generic OBDII device or can it also read and interpret VW-Audi software too? Most of the generic OBDII readers can't read VAG software correctly and will either miss faults or provide bogus fault codes. It would be interesting to compare it to something like the the Ross Tech VCDS (VAG COM) and see how well it performs on an Audi or VW.
I took my truck into a local mechanic as I was taking my 17 year old truck on an 8000 mile adventure . Had brakes and fluids changed . I asked him to do a full scan of the truck to make sure everything was working correctly . He said as long as the check engine light is not on your good to go . If I had this scanner I would have had the info . I like the idea of having it for intermittent problems that may not show up at a shop. Now to much info can give some anxiety as many times we want our machines to run perfectly . If I new I had a problem with say the tranny I may have not done my adventure . Ignorance is bliss until you break down of coarse
@@OnTheAir My question also . Usually I don't go to mechanics and try to do most of it myself if I can . I have not had good luck having others work on my vehicles . Its possible he may not understand the data . Kind of like handing a book to a toddler .
Im glad you did this video 1st time seeing it and I bought one just a year ago ive diagnosed 30 Plus vehicles mine my girlfriends friends neighbors coworkers it’s a very useful tool even programs key fobs value is having it when you need it and today everything breaks eventually so it will pay for itself many times over id buy it again however I saved a few bucks by deciding not to get the blue tooth version and stick with wired it’s a D8 and I love it comes with a subscription for 3 years free updates
The D7 model of this tool can do the same for close to half the price and it is not slow either.Small battery is only drawback.but that is easy to just to use a charger to plug in to the car,s power outlets so it have power.
3 valves in that beast truck? well i never, i am a noob, so i baulked at buying a 1.5 ford kuga when i learn't it had 3 cylinders, even my 1.2 corsa had 4 cylinder 16v, so 3 cylinder on a 150bhp engine just didn't seem a wise set up. Spent months looking for the right kuga but learning it had 3 cylinders the day before purchase scared me off.
Hey scotty I am trying to figure out which one is better the tapdon Phoenix plus or the Xtool d8 there is a huge price difference but for me the big deal is OBD1 coverage and function for ford dodge and GM is the double price tag for the topdon worth it to be honest I am professional mechanic that offers OEM quality and beyond and currently the cost of running OEM software's is no longer in my reach so I want would love an honest opinion I can afford both but if I can save the money and get 90-95% equal value out of the D8 ..any ways thank you if you can help ..PS love all your Vids you are very valuable to me anad you also make me giggle too
Thumbs up solely for the manual update option only statement. NEVER ALLOW THE MACHINES TO DO AUTOMATIC UPDATES without reading what it is comprised of. Additionally, if there are no developer notes as to why there is an updated need, NOT going to happen until the info is divulged.
Scotty, if you have an ABS error on the instrument cluster, will this show which wheel has the fault? I've got 3 GMs, 2 08 Impala LTZ, 1 Buick century. I appreciate it if you could tell me before I buy it. I just bought a LAUNCH scanner and it shows crap for abs. It's not bidirectional. I'm going to return it. Thanks Scotty. Love your channel!
When Scotty said updates screw things up....that is gospel....I wish the. Rep at my cellphone co told me that before I did a update and lost features on the smartphone...
Xtool changed my instrument panel to German language and screwed up my driving hours . I was only looking live data from the cluster it changed things without my consent.
I have the 2011 ecoboost with the harsh shift into 2nd gear. Hoping a new filter and fresh solenoid bar will fix it. Don't think the adaptive table will ever figure this one out. Previously a Ford PCM recall produced an Initial Configuration not complete code. Pcm cant communicate with bcm. it's never shifted the same after the update. It's a good product with a catch can and if you want to get into truck mechanics. When you look at a good scan tool it's impressive whats going on under the hood.

I own the D8 and it can also program immobilizer keys, keyless entry, and keyless ignition fobs. I already programmed 3 keys with it. The Bluetooth version just came out and is $70 more
Yes when they stopped having the schrader valve on the fuel rail it made me mad as well. I used to have to work on an old thunderbird often. And he'd kept running crappy crappy gas. Schrader valve & guage were my best friend back then. The kids will never known how handy it was If it was still there you'd have two places now, to check.. Oh well
The REALLY sad part is, the automakers could 100% allow you to read this data without a $700 computer. Most newer cars have a screen and it's already hooked to the computer. It would literally cost them NOTHING to make it so you could see all this data, as the computer is already collecting it. It could even save someone from being stuck on the side of the road by alerting you to problems. Unfortunately, they just don't care and want to run up your repair bill.
4:11 My 2011 Chevy Silverado with 5.3 has almost all the original parts except General wear parts and maintenance has 20013 thousand miles and still runs great
I found that just mentioning to the mechanic you have a scantool you are treated differently. I may not be able to fix it due to lack of space:time or tools but I am aware of what’s going on
Scotty, with a good scan tool are you able to verify hard set mileage via the ECM? I know by changing the gauge cluster it can possibly mess with the correct mileage.

Sounds like a great game show for a local TV market.
Scotty ! One of the best darn videos you have done in awhile.......( I like them all ).......35 year mechanic but same basic principals.......nice unit .....
Scotty is SOOOOOO right about software updates. Wait until the complaints about the updates stop before updating your own!
Thank you scotty. Now I’m ready to buy this for my 21 Camry
XTOOL D7/D8 are reviewed by many people recently, but none of them mention if they could reset ECUs.
Xtool compensates well for reviews.
Notice that NONE of the reviewers demostrate the real functions that you pay for( service resets, active tests, etc) I have an Xtool and it lets me down every single time I have to do some serious work on a customer's vehicle
I just bought the D7 for $500, I'm blown away at everything it can do. Worth every penny.
Where?
Love Scotty. Everytime I watch one of these I can't help but think how he could do animated character voiceovers..
You can tell Scott is genuinely excited recording this video, like a kid in a candy shop with someone else's candy
Did U lose ur candy lol
With the cost of vehicles these days they should automatically come with a good scanner or at the very least have a menu button for this feature in cars that come with large displays.
they dont do this because they dont want us fixing the car they want you to bring it to dealership
It's funny how Scotty presents the scenario that you can actually talk to your mechanic and they will give you honest communication. I don't think I've met an honest one yet in person and I am 40 years old. And I've met quite a few, dealerships and independent mechanics
What do you do for a living? I have never met an honest person in that industry either. Even pastors are a bunch of crooks. Keep your eyes open folks.
I did my research and after watching this video I bought the Xtool D7. It came in the mail Friday, 3/12/22, and I played with it on the weekend. I worked on My 2003 Volvo S40, which had the check engine light on. I was able to make the windshile go on and off and it read some other stuff.
So is it worth it ? And will it work with 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS ?
Great tool! $700! That’s more than I’ve paid for half the cars I’ve owned. Great video, Scotty.
That's why you had so many cars for $700 a car it can’t last that long! Hahahaha
What cars do you buy that amount?
I wish to be like you
@@elvismanrocksAuction duh.
I recently bought the D8 but returned it because it could NOT read the PCM codes for a 96 camry and 02 grand caravan where my bluedriver and actron scanners did read them. The D8 Technical support said the scanner software was ok. Seems the D8 will not work on older vehicles IMO.
I own the D8 and it scans my 2001 Tacoma just fine but it does give me an alert saying it's an older interface
SCOTTY KILMER please live forever you are a national treasure
My business is beside a mechanic shop. I could never do mechanic work like you Scotty for living. I've known a lot of mechanics and it seems the number one issue in that field is customers always trying to scam or rip off the repairmen. I've had my vehicles worked on by multiple guys in multiple states and I've never experienced the whole shady mechanic experience but I've seen so many customers trying to scam the shop beside me.
I love these scan tool vids Scotty. Glad to see that Ford doing so well.
My subscription for my current Launch tool is up in May. The renewal fee is $599 per year. I'm going to give this tool a go.
Scotty - how does the XTool D8 compare to your Autel MaxiIM IM608 scan tool? I'd love to see you do a long, detailed video comparing them.
Thank God i bought a 94 Celica for $600.00 cash. No car payment and it gets great gas mileage. Gas will be 4 bucks a gallon soon.
One thing I've taken away from watching this channel is get yourself at the very least a mid range scan tool for your vehicles. Worth their weight in gold.
Should I purchase a full function scanner to diagnose my 1998 Jeep Cherokee?
Great Afternoon, Scotty!!!
afternoon!
Great video.
Thank you Professor Kilmer.
This trucks owner is a madman. Takes care of his truck and invests in the right scanner. I love his Scooby snacks for a quick energy boost.👍❤️
Hell yeah. Invested that money he saved from not buying an expensive new truck.
Now he has a tool that will keep providing value for years.
Scotty spitting facts, literally.
Thinktool pros work more fast
Hey Scotty I'm an old school mechanic and like many others had to join the 21st century to work on my own car and these scanners are a must (even the cheaper ones). But I think dealerships and manufacturers will regain their edge by putting even more patents on parts so you have to buy dealer parts. Oh well, that's business lol.
To work on modern cars, one has to be an computer technician, data analyst, and electrician.
Ow yeah, i almost forgot you have to be a mechanic as well.
Well spoken
Correct.
Scotty: how far back in years does this go back. My ,1996 yukon and 97 f-250 , 99 escort and keep Cherokee sport , need this tool.
2000s or above.
Certainly not 80's and 90's. I own a 92 Truck and it has very minimal electronics in it and a really cheap scan tool could do the job.
OBD-II started in 1996. Thats where I personally consider the “modern car era” to begin
Scotty, do you know if one has to pay for yearly updates to keep the scanner working.
This you get updates for 3 years then after that you have to pay like 100 a year after that.
For as much as people love to complain about how complicated cars are nowadays, I personally think its fantastic to have computers be able to save hours on diagnostic times. With all these new cars having big screens i hope they start coming with factory scan tools soon (they probably won't but a guy can dream)
Toyota actually sells their Dealer software called Tech Stream.
@@Argedis that's great too know.
Dealers won't be able to make money, they make bulk of money on service/repairs.
@@Argedisthey sell it, but it is circa $10,000! Great if you have a fleet of Toyotas ! Good luck if you don’t 😂
@@southerncharity7928 But you don't need it. Toyota allows their diagnostic software to be used in third party scan tools like the one in the video.
I was only saying you can actually buy the 'official' software the dealers use but it's for dealers so why would you pay that lol
It's companies like Tesla that don't offer their diagnostics to be used with third party scan tools.
That would be a very interesting computer overload to witness.
Honda infotainment has some limited tests built in but it's not enough. It should be equal to the ihdm computers that cost an arm and a leg.
It's a good idea but Manufacturers want you to bring it back to the dealer for repair & maintenance. They are a business after all
a scan tool and a pokey light has helped me save thousands while buying cars. if i cant scan it i wont buy it. sometimes it wont scan because its just a blown fuse which i find with the tester. then i run the diagnostic and make my bid.
I have the D7, looks impressive, lists lots of cars, wont connect to most of them. Hoping if I keep updating it might actually be useful.
I am not positive but I believe that is the Ford engine that needs the Oil Pump replaced at around 140,000 to 150,000 miles. When they go you will severely damage your engine. You may want to tell the truck owner.
Scotty, you're a good dude. Your vids are extremely informative, but it's you that make them great.
listening to Scotty save you a lot of money thank you
I can get a lot of useful information out of my wireless OBD2 adapter and the Torque Pro App on my Android Smartphone. $15 for the adapter and $5 for the App. Maybe some day I'll cough up more dough for a better tool.
BTW, I spend a lot of time watching your videos ... keep producing them, their great, learning a lot.
Same here. I just need a good source for PIDs.
Does it program Chevy,Ford,Dodge?
@@brianb5779 nice name
@@GB-uy1tq Appreciate the info
Scotty's the man!
I have the D7 and it works great.
Does your mechanic even have a good scan tool?
@@OnTheAir My question also . Usually I don't go to mechanics and try to do most of it myself if I can . I have not had good luck having others work on my vehicles . Its possible he may not understand the data . Kind of like handing a book to a toddler .
Im glad you did this video 1st time seeing it and I bought one just a year ago ive diagnosed 30
Plus vehicles mine my girlfriends friends neighbors coworkers it’s a very useful tool even programs key fobs value is having it when you need it and today everything breaks eventually so it will pay for itself many times over id buy it again however I saved a few bucks by deciding not to get the blue tooth version and stick with wired it’s a D8 and I love it comes with a subscription for 3 years free updates
The D7 model of this tool can do the same for close to half the price and it is not slow either.Small battery is only drawback.but that is easy to just to use a charger to plug in to the car,s power outlets so it have power.
I remember when I thought I was high tech when I had a Sun machine.
Yes back in the day, the sun machine was the size of some of today’s cars. People were amazed at how they worked too.
👍
Scotty, if you have an ABS error on the instrument cluster, will this show which wheel has the fault?
I've got 3 GMs, 2 08 Impala LTZ, 1 Buick century.
I appreciate it if you could tell me before I buy it.
I just bought a LAUNCH scanner and it shows crap for abs. It's not bidirectional. I'm going to return it.
Thanks Scotty.
Love your channel!
I’m just a DIY kinda guy can I ask you, what’s a decent scan tool at $350-$500 range? Thanks in advance.
When Scotty said updates screw things up....that is gospel....I wish the. Rep at my cellphone co told me that before I did a update and lost features on the smartphone...
XTool D8 is A VERY VERY GOOD SCAN TOOL For under $700. It can pay for itself in just a few uses for people to save them $1000
Xtool changed my instrument panel to German language and screwed up my driving hours . I was only looking live data from the cluster it changed things without my consent.
Looks like I have got a lot to learn. Good on you Scotty. 👍👍👍👍
Likely this unit would not work with my 94 and 05 models
But I loved the video
As all Scotty videos rock
As an old computer tech, I'm reminded of this: "you can't get blood from a turnip".
Is that box of Milk Bones part of the scan tool or an additive to the Transmission?...🙂
It must be a real dog. 🤣
The milk bones are for the rear end to make it shut up long enough to make a sale.
Would love for you to see a ford with 250,000 miles on it hahah
Hell yeah I’m getting this scan tool right now!
Autel has a scan tool for about $150-$200 more u can also program chipped keys and do tpms sensors and its bluetooth. 👍🏻 I like it better then the D8!
What's the model of the Autel? Good for domestic, Asian and European vehicles?
I own the D8 and it can also program immobilizer keys, keyless entry, and keyless ignition fobs.
I already programmed 3 keys with it. The Bluetooth version just came out and is $70 more
Hey scotty thats some gadget! Even the connectors match his truck color.
Yes when they stopped having the schrader valve on the fuel rail it made me mad as well.
I used to have to work on an old thunderbird often. And he'd kept running crappy crappy gas.
Schrader valve & guage were my best friend back then. The kids will never known how handy it was
If it was still there you'd have two places now, to check.. Oh well
I bought the XTOOL Anyscan A30M . It has most of the same functions and runns just over $200
Hey old horse I love you man I hope you’re doing good!!
God bless you and your family you are awesome
The REALLY sad part is, the automakers could 100% allow you to read this data without a $700 computer. Most newer cars have a screen and it's already hooked to the computer. It would literally cost them NOTHING to make it so you could see all this data, as the computer is already collecting it. It could even save someone from being stuck on the side of the road by alerting you to problems. Unfortunately, they just don't care and want to run up your repair bill.
They are a business after all, but they also don't want average person 'attempt' to fix something and make a problem worse based on a code.
I have one of the xtool d7. They are excellent diag tool for an awesome price
4:11 My 2011 Chevy Silverado with 5.3 has almost all the original parts except General wear parts and maintenance has 20013 thousand miles and still runs great
213 thousand
I agree with your handle name brother.
I found that just mentioning to the mechanic you have a scantool you are treated differently. I may not be able to fix it due to lack of space:time or tools but I am aware of what’s going on
I thought about starting a channel about how “problematic” working on Jeeps is, then I woke up from my nightmare.
My wife wants a jeep. But you're scaring me. LOL
Any good online place to buy a remanufactured transmission?
My car is 2008 FORD Escape Hybrid, need an ABS bleeding. Do you know which scan tool can do it?
Scotty, with a good scan tool are you able to verify hard set mileage via the ECM? I know by changing the gauge cluster it can possibly mess with the correct mileage.
yes it will verify hard set mileage
