Once they announced the 6, I kept an eye out for when the 5’s would go on discount. Just snagged a pair of 5’s for $61usd- about 60% off retail! That’s hard to get from Hoka’s
I wore hoka goat 5s on my recent thru hike on the vermont long trail. 274 miles. Developed holes on both sides by the pinky toes. My pinky toes were sticking out of the shoes. The black rubber tread was separating on the heel and toe both feet. Both shoes also had the tread completely flattened in some areas. And on the inner portion the shoe the fabric was separated from the bottom 1.5 inches lengths slits.
275miles is a horrible mileage for that price. Where you scree running half of it or the longevity of it is so bad ? I have quite some experience of destroying shoes myself but at that price point I would expect more miles out of shoes.
Thank you! I wish they'd add a layer of cushioning like they did for Speedgoat GTX Spike! The Speedgoat Spikes feel so plush. I found out that, first, the men's have a bit more cushion than the womens, and on top of that Hoka added an entire layer of cushion to their Speedgoat Spike! It's an amazing shoe but really is only good for icey conditions. I wish they'd do for the Speedgoat 6 what they did for the Speedgoat Spike!
Great video mate. I have the Clifton 9's as well as the challenger 7's. I am going on a few technical trail hikes in the Swiss Alp's in 2 months. I had the "fear of missing out" on the Speedgoat 5's, since they are going out of stock. I also tried them on at my local sporting goods store over the weekend, and I love the plush feel to them. I was torn whether I made the right decision or not with the 5's. Thank you for reaffirming my decision on them. I love having a plush feel in my shoes.
New ones are way too hard. Disagree on the middle assessment - it feels way more stiff (aka hard as a rock) and does not have the Hoka feel. Will wait for the Mafate Speed and hope they don't screw it up.
Question, I’m currently on my XC team and we run 5k during meets. The Hoka SpeedGoat 6 are my race shoes but havnt tried them out yet. I have a weak Achilles also and have a mid foot land when I run. Should I switch to the SpeedGoat 5 or keep the 6’s because a lot of people say the 6’s are bad 😡
Speedgoat 5s were ankle busters for me and this seems to be the same. this is especially true with roots and rocky terrain. I've spoken to a few people who said the same thing about the 5s.
i twisted my ankle a few times with the SG4 and 5 then i moved to Saucony Peregrine, i wonder if the stability has improved, i thought the previous versions were too soft, but i loved the confort for the long distances, also in the middle lower part of the sole there is a gap, where i would get poked by branches, looks like they shortened this gap which is good
I would say yes, the foam is firmer so it brings extra stability and responsiveness. But a little less cushioning. I think it's good because it differentiates more form the Mafate Speed 4, sitting now in between Mafate and Tecton X.
The stiffer feel out of the box will translate to softening during long term use causing it to be more durable and more comfortable over the long term. But yes, out of the box a little less comfortable.
Absolutely! The Speedgoat 6 is a very stable and rugged shoe. We cant comment on the race specifically as we haven’t run that race but I would be confident the Speedgoat 6 is more stable underfoot when compared to the Peregrine 13’s. Comfort would be variable between the 2 options so I would suggest try them on in store somewhere if you can.
I have had 4 pairs or the hoka speed goat 5 and they all seem to have similar issues. Overall such a great shoe but I'm excited to try these speed goat 6
My first pair of speed goat 5 Trail runners had really good cushion but the other four pairs I've bought since then even though their speed goat fives have less cushion and they're much harder. I'm disappointed in hoka.

I just ordered a pair of 6 to try. I was lucky to get my 5s to last 2 months.... Truly pathetic

Thanks so much for the comment!! Enjoy the trails and the Alps!
Which one is better than adidas ultragravic terrex.?

I love the Speedgoats. I’m hoping the forefoot doesn’t rip as easily as my 4s and 5s.
The Speedgoats haven’t been the same since the 4’s
I haven’t had either, but looking to get a pair of either the 5 or 6.. would you buy the 5 if they’re $30 cheaper or just go with the 6’s?

The new Speedgoat 6s are so hard and stiff! Run smaller, too. Tried the 5s and 6s on side by side. 6s are so uncomfortable. Such a disappointment.

Is this a shoe you’d race UTMB 105miles in? Currently in Peregrine 13 but think they lack a little foot stability on more technical terrain?

What kind of issues?
I like the speedgoat 5 better

The cushion has been gone since the 4. Hoka has destroyed what made them famous. Altra and Topo are far better shoes.
Misleading marketing video! Perspective from specs and not experience. 👎
Literally shaped like they are meant for stork feet. NARROW TORPEDO feet. Not a human foot.
Don't order anything from Hoka on line. It's a scam, they charge your card and refuse to send the product.
I just ordered from their website site and no problem getting the Arahi 7 on time.
